Go here at your own risk. I had a procedure that was denied by my insurance but no one told me. I did not learn until after the procedure was finished that it was not pre-authed, according to the lady at the desk on 12/17. I also had no discussion at anytime with a patient coordinator or given any information regarding cost to me on or after the prior initial appointment, per the Byrd Dental website. See screenshot from their site. The lady charged me 50 something dollars after the procedure, then we were not informed of the full cost until 12/18 when they claimed it was just denied. That paperwork shows it was denied on the 11th of November(almost 6 weeks ago) though, so they did try to pre-auth it but it was denied and no one said anything. Now I am supposed to pay 500 bucks because no one informed me it was not going to be covered, as any respected business would do. Otherwise, it is just deceptive, bad faith business practices. Simply put, if I knew it was denied, I wouldn't have had it done because I just had it done a few months ago, at a different dentist. Byrd Dental knew this and they likely knew it would be denied based on my conversations while in office. The dentist's office is blaming the insurance, the insurance says it is the dentist's office. Neither informed me of a denial and neither will have to pay for it. Just to be clear, we got appointment reminders through text, email, and calls including a real person. The dentist's office had ample opportunity to say it was denied and did not. The insurance company says they sent the mail but it never arrived in our mailbox, or to the mail distribution center where photos of incoming mail are taken. We have other mail from them regarding the previous dentist but nothing regarding Byrd Dental and we have scoured the digital photos to be certain. Byrd Dental has a chance to right this situation and keep a customer. If they do, I will update this review. If not, I hope you avoid them so this does not happen to you. read more

I've been going to this place for years and seeing Dr.Storch. The last few times I've went, I've seen Dr. Byrd assuming that Dr. Storch was not there that day. I have regular cleanings every six months. I had developed a slight pain in one tooth that I mentioned a few times at different visits and both Dr Storch and Dr. Byrd could not find anything. I brought it up again at my last cleaning just to see if they found anything. The hygienist said my tooth was beautiful, and Dr. Byrd came in and said immediately before, even looking at my mouth that I needed two cavities filled from the time before on the other side. He then proceeded to look at my mouth and started to say that I needed a crown on a different tooth, and then a root canal on the tooth that I was asking about plus he would need to do a crown on that root canal tooth as well. This was all based on the previous six-month x-ray. I had gotten. They didn't even do any other x-rays on me at the dental visit. He told me that he wanted to go ahead with the root canal because if he just did a crown on it that he might have to eventually go in through there and do the root canal. Went home, looked up reviews and saw that Dr. Storch had moved to her own practice at Vida in Hagerstown. I proceeded to go ahead and make appointments for all of my apparent dental procedures needed . I then called Vida (Dr.Storch) to get a second opinion. They did x-rays as well as a cavity x-ray, and all I needed was a small refilling of a previous filling that was coming unglued. I did not need any crowns or root canals and even I didn't have any cavities. Dr. Byrd has also told my daughters when they went in for their cleanings that one needed a gum ablation and the other needed veneers. And to let him know if they wanted that done. Never mentioning any of that to myself. Not only does that cause low self-confidence, but also setting them up for future income for himself. My daughters both have beautiful teeth that have had braces. I'm so happy that I trusted my gut on this and I do not recommend going there as you may get unnecessary dental procedures. read more

First of all I would like to state that I really liked Dr. Storch and that she is awesome. But, some of the other personnel needs training on how to handle TMJ patients. I have severe TMJ and am unable to open my mouth very far or keep it open. Usually shunts are used to help me out during dental appts. because my lower jaw shakes and pain shoots through my head and face. Sometimes my jaw will lock open or shut. The hygienist was completing a deep clean in which they numb one side and clean underneath the gum and such. First, she cleaned the top side. It went okay other than I was given no breaks and no shunts. She kept on screeching at me to keep my mouth open and to open wider and wider. This was just non-stop. I told her that I couldn't because of the TMJ. She didn't care evidently. I tried to move my head to the other side to close my mouth for breaks, but she didn't have patience for that. Now, the bottom side would not even numb up. (This is also my TMJ side too). It stays sore to the touch All the time. She used quite a bit of of numbing agent, but to no avail. She then went ahead and started the procedure and boy did it hurt. I begged her to stop. She then added more numbing which still didn't help. By that time, I had tears rolling down my face and I told her my jaw hurt really bad. As usual, she kept on me about keeping my mouth open. She said it was going take longer if we kept on stopping. I reminded her again about my TMJ and that I couldn't keep it open. I left there with a migraine, upset stomach and I had to stop to regurgitate on my way home. Needless to say, I never did get the other side done. My face swelled and bruised up like I had abcesses. I couldn't eat anything other than soft food for at least two weeks. The swelling stayed in my face, jaw and neck for over 3 weeks. I have pics to prove this. Heck, I had to get my drivers license redone and my face is still swollen on that. I let Dr. Storch's office how bad the swelling was. I had to get antibiotics for the infection at Urgent Care. I called to cancel other appts. a few times because I had too much pain. That is when they dropped me as a patient. I called Dr. Storch about the letter and to tell her about the procedure after effects and she said that everyone goes thru a little TMJ pain sometime in their life. She is probably right, but mine was more than "a little TMJ pain." I have had TMJ most of my life and have had several procedures completed and many mouth appliances made through out the years. All of this transpired in 2018 with the dental cleaning procedure. Since then, I have had dry needling done in my jaw. I have cervical migraines and ringing in the ears all the time which can stem from TMJ. I now have high b/p. I didn't have that until the severe pain started. I use a TENS unit on my jaw and neck. Another mouth appliance. I have been diagnosed now with mild sleep apnea and insomnia which can stem from TMJ. Surgery mentioned. An MRI has been finally scheduled for January. They are ONLY concerned with the $190 I still owe them, or collections is in my future. I can't say for sure that all of this stemmed from my procedure, but my TMJ ramped up after my appt. Thing is, I called about the pain and swelling. I didn't think it was normal. I didn't get a good answer. I am acknowledging that I was wrong for not paying my bill, but I also feel that as a medical facility, they should place more of an emphasis on quality care for their patients, more targeted training on TMJ or other issues that may arise and better ways to handle billing issues. Byrd Dental are money hungry crooks. They try to sell you unneeded work such as root canals, do work to you telling you it's 100% covered by your insurance, then bill you for it. I had a Approx.. $40. credit on my account from previously being overcharged that disappeared after a period of time. The hygienist are nice but the dentists are crooks. I went in to see dr. Storch but instead got dr byrd. He was extremely un-professional and rude. I had a few cavities and he was making snide remarks about "how people like you make me rich" it's also bad when your dental hygienist associate has to repeatedly apologize for your terrible "bed side manner" or in my opinion his negative attitude on life in general. I found him to be a money grubbing rude miserable old man. Needless to say i found a new dentist thats much better and does not make rude or harsh comments. I would avoid this dentist at all cost. read more
