Of all my visits to the market why have I never stopped here before!? My boyfriend, being the sweet tooth that he is, insisted we pick up cookies for a "snack" later (even though we just finished our dessert). Seriously, I'm legitimately sad I never discovered these amazing cookies earlier. He got a peanut butter chocolate chip cookie and I got the "Wisconsin"- cranberry, walnut, maple syrup goodness. He also got a New York cheese cake ball. I personally thought it was a little bit ridiculous to pay a dollar for this itty bitty bite of cheese cake but OH EM GEE it was good. like, beyond amazing good. My cookie? Despite it being the size of my head and me promising myself I was going to save half for breakfast, I scarfed it down. and stole more than a couple bites of my boyfriends cookie. I like to celebrate those things that are Milwaukee. Good or bad im pretty much ride or die. I will tell the truth in the process about the establishments that are good and or bad. This bakery im sure has its good days. Ive thumbed threw a couple of reviews so i know this to be fact. Its just on this Sunday that i decided to go it was a bad day. The market is crowded as usual no biggie. I didn't want to go but my kids did want to go. We are waiting in line while people ahead are being called on, I say hmm to myself. Finally i make my way to the counter and i say do you sell your items by the dozen. She says you can buy how many you want but the price will remain the same. So let me think if i grab 12 cookies at 3.50 a piece im paying 30 bucks for 12 cookies? Nah! So the kids and I grabbed some ice cream and came back i got a couple of 50 cents cookies and I asked what were the biscotti bites. The lady says an Italian desert. Im like ok I have no idea what it is. Im assuming you baked these so before i spend my money on these i would like to know more about them besides that they are from Italy. What do they taste like? What is the texture? Flavors? Something she gave me nothing besides a face full of fake shagrin. I said let me have a couple of the peanut butter 50 cents cookies. Abruptly she says Pecan butter cookies. Just like that, correcting me as opposed to educating me or making sure that i want them and i could have mistaken pecan for peanut. I got the cookies home and the majority of them fell apart. The cookies i had which were the Sugar and Peanut Butter tasted gritty and dusty if you can imagine. I will stick to my fav place Amaranth Bakery. It tasted better and the customer service is much better. A white man owning a business serving the community on 32 and Lisbon makes you check your self as a owner. A white man owing a business on water st in the third ward serving the community makes you do what? My point exactly. I don't like to make things racial, but I have had weird experiences at the market. This lady today really didn't pay attention to me or my children and from what i gathered just wanted to take my money and get me out of her face as quick as possible. If this was a matter of perception.... I would apologize and ask the people who were ahead of me if they felt slighted at all. Im sure that they wouldn't say anything but niceties, i would like to as well. The point is the baked goods are so over priced versus the quality. The customer service wasn't as good as it could have been. Would i give them another chance? Most likely no. I've been here dozens of times and everything has always been fresh and delicious. The staff in this little slice of the Public Market are great. They all give a welcome feel and (not to make any comments about age, ladies, so please don't take offense) there is always a matronly feel about the shop. The cookies are ridiculously good, as are the muffins and cakes. In addition to the very appealing cheesecakes today,I saw some sort of Kentucky Butter Cake that I've never even heard of before (and I'm a pastry chef). It looked awesome, but didn't quite fit the bill for the cookie stack I was purchasing It's a welcome part of the PM experience, and nice to have as a dessert station opposite Kehr's. Amazing bakery - I don't think I've ever been disappointed with any thing - cookies, pies, cakes; either special order or out of the case, they make an amazing product. Service on the other hand often disappoints; this is one of those situations that you go there for the product, but deal with "dealing with them". On three occasions I've placed special orders, and two of those have been wrong. One instance involved them misplacing and not making my special order (they rushed to make up for it when I picked it up), and the other instance was prepping a special order wrong. The clerks are fine just delivering something out of the case - but that's as far as it goes. We're also a member of the Third Ward Assoc and are supposed to get a 10% discount on Tuesdays, but the first time I used it, the clerk gave me a discount on ONE cookie when I ordered 9. I know none of these things are huge in the big picture when they have amazing goods, but something to pay attention to in an upscale environment like the Market. Advice: Watch special orders very carefully (and even call the day before to make sure they're getting it right). Otherwise - enjoy thoroughly what you get from them - it's worth the higher prices. I love the public market and have visited many times. Today in celebration of Valentine's day, I decided to stop here and indulge a little bit. Couldn't decide on just one desert so I got a variety. Red Velvet Cake Bite- Very yummy with the chocolate outside and red velvet cake inside. Very flavorful. Red velvet Valentine's cupcake- cheescake frosting was topped with heart sprinkles and a Dove chocolate. The cupcake tasted fresh and the cheesecake frosting was the best part! Oreo Mousse parfait- Light and fluffy. Was good, but nothing special. Black Forest cake- WAS DELICIOUS! Nice chocolatey goodness with raspberry sauce. Large and filling slice. All in all I am glad I finally stopped and tried some desserts! They were on the pricer side, but the taste of the desserts makes up for it. They have an award-winning cake decorator, literally. Their sweet baked goods are all beautiful, and in taste they range from delicious to okay. Everything is Public Market priced, which is to say, it's overpriced. Also like most other places in the Public Market, service varies from quick and friendly to tired and worn out, depending on a set of variables I have yet to figure out. One annoying assault on English I've noted here, all over the Public Market, and elsewhere with counter help is, "can I help who's next?" Excessive wordiness. What happened to, "next please?" And in this particular case, there's a single counter, room for only a single row, single file line, and I get the "can I help who's next?" even if there are only two of us standing in front of the glass. How hard would it be to just pay a little attention and ask the first person to look up if he or she needs something? I really like the Kentucky Butter Cake (a variation of pound cake) and their German Chocolate Cake. The Chief of Staff likes their cake bites. All in all, the product tends to be good enough to excuse the lapses in customer service quality and slight overpricing. read more

What does the C stand for? C might stand for cookies. We brought two of them home, a peanut butter and a oatmeal raisin, and they were both scrumptious. I'm usually on the chewy cookie side of things, but these crumbly cookies were mouth watering. C might stand for Can do without the brownies. We also brought one of these home, a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup brownie. It was a little dry and a little too rich. My wife bought this, didn't like it and passed it on to me. I took a couple bites, and try to pass it on to baby. Baby wouldn't eat it, the next natural progression is the dogs, but since they can't eat chocolate, it became mulch. Hopefully the worms like it. C definitely DOES NOT stand for C U Next Tuesday. Some folks had problems with the lady workers here so I was hesitant when I approached the counter. I hate paying good money to be treated like crap. While they might have not been the most affectionate customer service reps, they were quick to serve, attentive and definitely not rude. Good job ladies. I'm pretty sure C stands for cheesecake. While most restaurants crash and burn when they offer "New York Style" cheesecake, C Adams does a great job with their version. Rich, thick, creamy it's the real deal. The texture is just right and it's a huge slice for your money, enough to be shared with your significant other. The only complaint I have about it is that they put an inch thick layer of whipped cream on the top. While I love whipped cream, this cheesecake is great on its own. You could cut the whipped cream in half and still have a great piece of cheesecake. C stands for Come in and try the Cheesecake. read more

Cake bite update: these bad boys are now up to $2 a piece! When I discovered them back in 2009 they were $1, which in my opinion is the perfect price for this bite-sized piece of deliciousness. Then they went up to $1.50, which seemed a little silly but I understand the cost of materials / etc goes up, so whatever. But $2 for a little bite-sized treat? Come on! ---- The cake bites are to die for! I've never been a cake lover, every birthday my entire life I've had ice cream cake ... but the cake bites (especially the red velvet) are amazing! We hired C. Adams to create macarons and cupcakes for our wedding and we were not disappointed. They were able to make strawberry basil macarons for us even though it's not on their regular menu and they were phenomenal! We had to walk by the counter twice and then stare awkwardly at all the goodies encased in glass! I ended up getting two of the best cupcakes ever for my kids:( One had banana cupcake topped with chocolate frosting. Banana chips were garnish. The other was white frosting with Hershey Kisses on the top. They had these cute cup cake holders so your cup cake wouldn't get smooshed. Pretty classy! This was my go to place in the Milwaukee Public Market for Sweets & Treats. I was working downtown and I'd make a trip for their wonderful brownies, giant cookies, wonderful pastries, special breads and assorted cake slices. My co-workers loved to see me coming through the door loaded with those delicious treats. Since 2020, I've limited my out of the way excursions so I've missed my Sweet Treat trips to the Market. I was so delighted this weekend to attend my nieces birthday dinner and be served a slice of Carrot Cake from C Adams Bakery. It was so moist and delicious with a wonderful Cream Cheese Frosting. Everyone enjoyed this delectable treat. The bakery is still housed in the Milwaukee Public Market where you may park in their parking lot. There are other stores in the Market that I'd stop in on my visits like The Fish Market, the Spice House, Kiehl's Candy Store, the Cheese Market and so much more. I love the Public Market and this was a great stop on our way out. We split a very large, very dense maple bacon donut. The bacon was legit chunks on top of the rich maple glaze and the donut, even split in half, was more than filling. Service was quick. The donut was not hot, but was still very fresh and soft. Visiting Wisconsin for the first time and found this bakery within the market place. Selected a fudge brownie, blondie and a Wisconsin cookie...tasted each one. The blondie was under baked so then tried a piece of the fudge brownie. That was extremely sweet and lacked something in flavor. Lastly, the cookie was slightly dry and lacked flavor. There's nothing worse than when you want a delicious treat, pick one out based on the name and look of it, and come to find that it just sucks. Husband and I got an assortment of treats today; a "heath" cookie, two red velvet cake bites, and a slice of peanut butter cup chocolate cake. First, the cookie... gorgeous, but tasted like little other than a chocolate chip cookie. Not terribly exciting, but edible. Next, I tried a cake bite. The outside chocolate shell was flavorless, and the inside cake part was mushy and wet and just... bad. It tasted like food coloring. I was saving the cake for last, hoping it'd be the show stopper. Boy was I wrong. I love cake. LOVE cake. And I couldn't even finish this. Ask my husband -- this has never happened before. The frosting was almost like a weird thick oversweetened pudding. The cake part wasn't bad, but there was too much frosting in between the layers to enjoy it. Maybe the bars and brownies are a bit more tasty, but I probably wouldn't bother to find out. read more

Today I went here 20 minutes before closing and ordered one of their super delicious slices of cake and a few cookies. At the cash register, the older woman said "I snuck in another piece for you in the box!" That was so sweet of her to do. It's hard finding local places with the kindest and sweetest staff that work at places like these. Even though they were closing up shop, they did not make me feel rushed or were negative towards me. I love this bakery for the people and also the food! This is a great place to get dessert after a big meal, and save it for later! If I could get a birthday cake their I definitely would! Okay I'll preface this review by saying that I have a background in baking, I've sampled cookies at some really well known places in NYC, ECT...i love cookies it's my go to dessert. We were at the market for the first time, just kind of scoping things out. I saw the cookies here our first time around and really wanted to get some. The rest of the people in my group said that they wanted dinner so I got distracted with that and we went to dinner. As everyone else was paying...i made a point to go back and get the cookies. I tried a handful of different kinds, intending fully to save them until the next day...as we walked around the neighborhood they were nibble by nibble polished off...my only regret...not going back to get more before I left town. The service was prompt, polite, and efficient. Some people have reviewed the prices to be high...i think that for the portions and quality of product they are pretty fair...maybe on the upper end of that window but...not anything unreasonable.
