Ginger molasses cookie. Soft and wonderful.

Date of visit: September 15, 2024 We've started hitting a local bakery with some friends once a month with our first visit being local gem Matilda Bakehouse! The selection is a bit limited, especially on the savory side of things, so make sure that you get here early for the best options. We ended up staying for nearly two hours and never once felt like we were getting "the glare" to leave, which was nice. Also nice: The water available at no cost on the side counter. I didn't see an option to heat anything up, but maybe you just have to ask? Next time I come, I will try a coffee drink as well, this time around was just bakery items. My kouign amann was nearly as good as the one I had in Paris, though that one was salted caramel so it's a bit of an unfair comparison. Because we were there so long, I also had a ginger molasses cookie that was soft perfection. Definitely worth popping in for a treat!

This was my first stop at Matilda's and I'm already planning when I can go back. I got a box of 6 pastries to share with my friend and her kids- the four of us devoured them! Everything in the box was Abolsutely amazing. The crusts were so buttery and light! The fillings were packed with flavor, and the cheese danish was light and citrusy!the employees were so nice and welcoming. I was offered so great reccomdations! The prices were very reasonable- 5 pastries costs $22 and was worth every penny. If you are in the Fox point area, make it a point to stop for something sweet or savory! Such a great treat.

I was wandering and looking for a coffehouse near my location. Matilda's appeared. What a pleasamt surprise. A delicious pastry and croissant balery with great coffee. Great find?

Very cozy place, although also spacious - you can bring a laptop and sit there for a while. I was asked if I'd like my danish warmed up; it turned out a little more crunchy than I prefer, but still very good. I will definitely come here again in a future. :)

I love that we now have a place like this in the neighborhood! I particularly love their more savory options! Everything I've tried here has been super high quality and well made! We needed something like this around!

I've enjoyed finding Matilda products in the past but was glad to see a brick and mortar! The location is easy to find, despite being in an area with not a whole lot around it. Our group enjoyed the chocolate almond pastry which was very good but very messy. The kids loved the cinnamon roll, and we also grabbed a to go back of the shortbread bites which are very tasty. They make a good iced chai too. They had a small side room with a large table which would be good for large groups or a smaller meeting. The spot is not a super convenient one but will definitely be back when I'm nearby next.

Great experience at Matilda's Bakehouse! Store was very large interior (enough room to do work for school/work) and comfortable seating. Staff were super friendly and very helpful with our orders! The coffee was very impressive! I got a hot coffee but my girlfriend got an iced oat milk salted caramel latte which she thought was the best coffee she's had in months. The food was also very good! We had the s'mores croissant, ham and cheese croissant and confetti cookie. Our favorite was the confetti's cookie, it was delicious. Overall, if you are looking for high quality baked goods or maybe just a stop in for a quick bite and coffee, Matilda is definitely a spot I would recommend!

The coffee shop is very pretty, and the croissants are beautiful. They have the normal price for a croissant around 5dollars. I just thought even they were beautiful they didn't taste amazing. I had a chocolate croissant and I only ate the chocolate, and left the left over of the croissant because it tasted nothing. , the coffee shop wants to give us a French cafe feeling but nobody speak French, some translation of their products is funny, like google translate. For the coffee part, have waited 10minutes for 2 lattes but it was busy in the coffee shop, it's anodyne coffee, it's not my favorite but was ok !

The company has been around since 2005 and offers a wide variety of options that could please anyone. My friends went with the tacos and I'm really glad they did. Two options of tortilla were offered, soft corn and flour. Both were tasty and super soft, but the flour edged out the corn for me. Good things come in pairs and two types of phenomenal cheese sauces were also offered, nacho cheese and a white queso. With all that sauce I still managed to add a little tangy sour cream. Both beef and chicken were offered as fillings. I obviously went with the beef (without going on too much of a tangent my longtime followers know I'm allergic to an antibiotic used in poultry and I didn't want to chance that the chicken meat was from 100% antibiotic free chickens), which was juicy, tender, and flavorful. My tacos were pretty packed, but I also managed to get a small amount of beans in them too. As if the cheese sauces weren't enough, I topped my tacos with a sprinkling of cheese like a true Wisconsinite. I initially went with one taco of each tortilla and paired each with a different cheese. They were so delicious I had to go back for one more though! Doughboy approved. I decided I could take care of the sides and would have Ball n' Biscuit do the main dishes. Ordered the BBQ jackfruit sliders and Italian tofu sausages for 50 people...so that ended up being one chafing dish worth of food and our total was a little over $400! In truth, it was my fault because she did quote me on it and I should've just walked away at that point, but I didn't..like a fool I said okay. Once I realized how little that actually is, I kind of felt like I got screwed...I mean seriously jackfruit is like $1.50 a can... The Italian sausages were just warmed up in marinara with some peppers and onions, it was good but not great or anything. Just for persepctive, I considered another party I had last year for about 50 people...exactly the same menu, but with actual Italian sausages and beef instead of jackfruit... catered by Bunzel's and it clocked in just around $200! So yeah, I did think this was really on the spendy side. Another thing that kind of irritated me was she didn't come and pick up the chafing dish for like a week.. Leaving it for 1 to 3 days would have been acceptable, but 7 days is not. I didn't want to have a dirty chaffing dish sitting in my back hallway for that long...and yes, it remained dirty because why would I hire a caterer if I wanted to do dishes?? What is the point? Maria was very nice, but just way to expensive for what you actually get. Wasn't impressed and would not recommend for a big event.

The place was smaller than…read moreI expected it to be, the ambiance was different than I expected it to be, but the food was exactly what I expected it to be. The restaurant has a vintage, divey diner look and feel to it. There is plenty of counter seating and a few booths scattered around the other half of the floor space. On my visit, I'd say the place was less than half full, with a few diners at the counter and several booths taken. I expected more diners since it was just before Noon. However, the carry-out traffic was constant from when I arrived to when I left. The carry-out orders must have been what delayed my food from coming out sooner than I expected. I asked the woman for a recommendation since it was my first visit. She suggested the fried chicken dinner with greens and yams as the most popular items. I took her suggestion but substituted the yams for mac-n-cheese. The chicken dinner comes with two sides and corn bread for $10.95. It was a feast! I saw an order of homemade biscuits get served to another diner and had to order some for myself, too. The greens and mac-n-cheese were good but not great. The mac-n-cheese had a slightly grainy texture and wasn't creamy at all. The flavor was decent for both. The corn bread arrived in the form of small pancakes as I seem to find in soul food restaurants in MIlwaukee (this was my third). They were also good, but nothing special. I don't think they were meant to be, anyway. If you want butter or jelly for your corn bread or biscuits, you might have to ask for it. I did, but but I think she expected me to just borrow some from the guy sitting next to me. So I did. The biscuits arrived as an order of 2 and they were sliced with butter already in them. That could be why my request for butter wasn't tended to. They were light and fluffy and not dense, among the best I've had anywhere. The star of my meal was the fried chicken, as it should be. The chicken skin was very crispy and well-seasoned. The meat itself was moist and hot. This was served very fresh. In fact, the chicken breast came out separately, a few minutes after the other pieces. I'm guessing there are capacity issues. This was the best fried chicken I've had in Milwaukee! Overall, I think I waited 40 minute for the food to come out, but it was worth the wait. I would definitely go back again and recommend that others visit Mr. Perkins. I felt like an outsider because everyone there seemed to be a regular with one exception (other than me). A salesman wearing a white shirt and tie was sitting to my right and was in town from Texas. I asked him how he knew about Mr. Perkins. He said he just went on the internet to find a place to eat nearby and it popped up. He liked the name. He ordered the pork chops and loved every bite. I informed him he was dining in a locally famous establishment with a long history in Milwaukee, which made him even happier about his choice. It took me over 5 years to get here. He made it on his first day in town. He shared some of his BBQ tips with me and another diner sitting to his right. I felt like I was in a scene from a movie. Different people with different backgrounds converge on a place to grab a bite to eat and end up exchanging BBQ tips and business cards. One guy gave me his card for projects on my house that he can help with. You won't just find good food at Mr. Perkins. You'll find good people, too.
