Rainbow Jimmy Persian: Although I know I've had National Bakery in the past, I'm almost positive it's been over a decade since my last tasting. National Bakery was founded in MKE back in 1925 in the center of an old Polish neighborhood. Supposedly, its owner Louis Wisniewski named it National Bakery & Deli because he interpreted National in his native Polish language to signify for the people. Today I have a Pershing, which is a doughnut that is similar to a cinnamon roll, but is made with doughnut batter. The cinnamon flavor is subtle, but I could see the cinnamon granules in the dough after taking a few bites. I found the dough to have a nice thick and chewy texture, while the rainbow jimmies and vanilla frosting added some sweetness. Due to the thickness of the doughnut the ratio of icing to dough is a little off for my preference. With the pershing being so thick, I think adding a glazing to the dough would have improved it greatly. To be clear, this is much better than the abominations Dunkin calls doughnuts, but it's not good enough to make me want another either. It falls just shy of my "Doughboy approved" rating and is going to get a "Just Okay" (though I would consider trying some additional items from National Bakery). My top doughnut shops: 1. Cranky Al's (MKE) 2.Hurts Donut Co. (various locations in different states) 3. Krispy Kreme (various locations in different states) 4. Donut Bar (California & Arizona locations) Doughboy_Food_Reviews

I am at a loss of words at how beautiful this cake turned out AND how delicious it was!!!

I am at a loss of words at how beautiful this cake turned out AND how delicious it was!!! We ordered this cake for my daughter's sweet 16 birthday party. It took us a bit to connect with the one employee who does tiered cakes but it was so worth that extra effort, she did a phenomenal job on it. All of the flowers were make out of icing either buttercream or fondant the top tier was a marble cake the bottom chocolate nothing fancy like fillings but honest it didn't need it. It was ready on time and just made the party perfect! I highly recommend you not only stop in for a great donut but order your birthday, wedding, graduation cake from here just go in early because they get busy around this time of the year!

We went here to try their ham and rolls and were not disappointed! We were able to choose sliced or shaved ham and also the kind of rolls we wanted. We also bought some of the bakery items, which I'm assuming were good, because they were eaten before I got my hands on any. An excuse to go back! In addition to the fresh bakery items, there is a frozen food case with turnovers and the like to bake at your leisure. The service was friendly and the ladies behind the counter were very patient. We were alerted to all the specials going on, but were not pressured to buy anything. They are easy to find on Broad street in downtown Greendale, right next to the Greendale library. 128/2015

In honor of #MardiGras #FatTuesday & #Polish #PaczkiDay... We got a VIP impromptu tour of National Bakery & Deli by their super kind & generous owner, Jeff Callen. Like a well-oiled machine, this place knocks out 1000's of donuts for good reason; They are very talented & well organized! Everything they make is jaw dropping & tastes phenomenal! Make sure you get there wayy early for your #KingCake & #Paczki, cuz they are bound to sellout! #KidFriendly #FamilyFun #ChefApproved

Keep Calm and Paczki On is the theme at National Bakery for today. What a welcoming experience as soon as you walk in the door. Very friendly greeter and fabulous accordion music playing. They were very prepared for the crowd today as it is Fat Tuesday. You are handed a check sheet to fill out before you get to the counter to make your ordering process move along. Can't wait to try these fabulous paczkis with my family today. They sure smell good.

I stopped here for the first time to pick up a birthday cake. I have nothing but good things to say about this business. The cake they designed and created was amazing. They were given some design ideas and ran with them. The cake was ready on time, which is always a plus. The staff here was nothing but friendly and kind. This bakery will be on the top of my list the next time I have a need for a cake. Also offered at this location is donuts, pastries and of course hot ham and rolls. If the rating system went to six stars National Bakery would be worthy of that sixth star. The location is in a strip mall in the downtown village area. The parking lot fills up quickly with all of the other restaurants and shops in the area.

I just wanted to say that I had a little mishap with the cake today being about two hours late I was about ready to have a meltdown but National Bakery is the best bakery around town and they made it all good and gave me a coupon to use for the next time I come back. The cake turned out awesome as usual. I would highly recommend them.

I'm happy my first experience with this location was on Paczki day. The bread, donuts and deli meats are the best of the best! They have beautiful cakes, cupcakes and cookies. In the heart of downtown Greendale!

Coffee is now ubiquitous with daily life in America, which brings me to Qamaria Coffee. Hatem and Munif are two Yemeni entrepreneurs with a passion for Yemeni Coffee and the joint goal of wanting to share it with the world. They founded Qamaria Coffee in 2019 to accomplish this task and in January 2024, they opened a location near Milwaukee in Greenfield, WI. Qamaria offers a variety of dessert options, including a Chocolate Tres Leches, Pistachio Tres Leches, and Caramel Tres Leches cakes. I went with the caramel version, which is described by the cafe as "A decadent caramel treat inspired by tres leches cake, creamy, sweet, and irresistibly smooth". If you've never had Tres Leches Cake, it's a light sponge cake soaked in three types of milk (evaporated, condensed, and whole) that's popular in Latin America. The cake originated in Nicaragua during the 19th century, so on first glance it's not exactly a Yemeni dessert. Doing some research, Middle Eastern variations exist that feature cardamom or rose water and some Qamaria locations do have a Rose Tres Leches. It's fine that the Greenfield location did not have that variety as I honestly would have got the caramel version anyway. My slice was perfectly moist as there was plenty of milk soaked in, but not so much that it made a mess or compromised the structure of the cake. The bottom layer was soft and Tiramisu-like in texture, while the cream on top was rich and thick. Personally, I found the caramel flavor to be mild, but delicious. As it is served chilled, it paired nicely with a hot cup of coffee (which they have a plethora of options to choose from). Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews

The menu feels inspiring, try it, and if you love it, attempt to make it yourself so you can eat it 100 times. The pie was good. I think it'd been better heated up with ice cream. Inside the pie really was more just like a regular apple pie with plenty of spice. Carmel seemed to be like a topping rather than an ingredient. I think it'd be amazing if the Carmel was inside. Staff seemed knowledgeable and friendly, I overheard guest conversation with them at front on there questions about the key-lime pie. The only thing I have to say for the order taker is please remind people to use their punch card that's good at their 2 cousin locations as well. The on my time I got a punch was the 1 time I was reminded was when I received the card. And I've been back 3 times since. There the Cheese shop by fiser forum or sausage shop in Milwaukee public Market I still have to check out. If they created a phone number "points" system that would be event better than carrying around a paper card.

The Glazed Croissant Donut is the standout item for me. The Cinnamon Snails run a close second and are worth picking up if you have the restraint to not stop at one item. After doing a little research, I've learned that sadly, Kringles are not widely spread throughout the U.S. Did you know Kringle is the official state pastry of my home, Wisconsin? It turns out that Racine, WI is actually the epicenter for Kringles. Racine's O&H Danish Bakery opened in 1949 and has been family owned for four generations. The almond kringle is one of their more traditional/basic flavors, but it is still impressively delicious. I was pleased with the amount of filling O&H crams into the pastry. It's got a nutty flavor that is so sweet, it almost seems fruity. Texturally, the filling has a creamy aspect to it, but it's also rather dense. The body of the kringle has hints of butter and like the filling, is thick and dense. Additionally, it has a flaky and pleasantly chewy texture. Lastly, the kringle is topped with a thick layer of icing. Usually O&H is pretty consistent, but as you can see from the pics, some portions of the kringle had a really thin amount of icing compared to others. Regardless, it was still another superb Kringle from O&H. Doughboy approved Doughboy_Food_Reviews * Only minor complaint is the size/price as I wished they also offered a smaller version of their Kringles or half kringles or even individual slices.
