Recently it seemed like birdseed was becoming the new toilet paper as far as shortages go. I couldn't find a good-sized sack of seed at any of the large retailers in Yucca Valley. Thankfully I remembered that C & J existed and made the drive out to Landers where I picked up a fifty pound bag for something like twenty bucks. They have several varieties of seed available and the two I've tried (with corn and without corn) have been well received by the wild birds in my yard. Someone even carried the large bag out to my vehicle which was an unexpected and pleasant surprise. It's a well-stocked store with friendly, helpful employees and easy parking. Chick season, again. No water and food most of the time. Other vendors in the area are more responsible in their live animal sales. C&J continually has too many chicks so they are not being bought at the speed of competitive stores. Here the chicks are crammed in the chick storage area, in the dark wedged with the bags of feed and can't move around much. Then when they get even bigger (they are big now so very soon...) they are dumped in the back area where the older chickens and roosters are...that is filthy, they attack each other due to overcrowding, etc. Then the owners buy MORE...and this cycle of poor animal husbandry continues. Yes, they have a nice selection of items for locals but they continually take horrible care of the livestock/poultry/domestic animals they sell as is documented on various sites. Why don't they stop selling live beings if they can't take care of them OR if they just don't care? NOTE: Current bermuda hay stock is a) $1 more a bale ($14.99) than it's been and b) it's wet inside. With the hot weather upon us this is a mold disaster waiting to happen. read more

Great service with a personal touch! I've been using C&J for a little over a year now. They supply me with the food for my horses, dogs, goats, and hens... I would not hand over so much money on a monthly basis if I was not truly satisfied with the service. Heidi is amazing and has always remedied any issues that I've had. I had to have 3 bails of Bermuda delivered every month and was less than 3 miles away and yet was charged $10 per delivery every time. I used C&J 3 or 4 times and each time they did not arrive when they said they would, and did not call to let me know they wouldn't be arriving. They also promised they would call to let me know what time they would arrive and I never heard form them, ever. Never again. read more
