I was told that the dangle earring backs would need to be ordered, but that it shouldn't take long. When I didn't hear anything back for 2 weeks, I called and was told that it would be done shortly. After another 2 weeks, I called again and was told that the earring backs were backordered and wouldn't be available for 3 more weeks. Why couldn't someone call me to let me know? A customer shouldn't have to keep calling. When another week went by, with no update, I called again and talked to Andrew Minton who told me that he would get back to me. The next day, a woman who identified herself with the last name of Minton told me that the earrings were ready for pickup. I came today (June 9) to pick them up only to see that the earrings were not worked on at all. When I asked why I had been called and told they were ready, the young woman (who initially waited on me in April) went back to talk to the jeweler. During this time, a female employee came up to the counter and was working on a computer. She saw the earring back that was to be worked on for my earrings on the counter and promptly put her finger in her mouth to pick up the earring back to give to Andrew Minton. When the young woman came back, I was told that the reason they told me that my earrings were ready (when they weren't) is that my order had been placed in the wrong box. It seemed like a very poor excuse. I remarked on the unsanitary practice of picking up earring backs with spit on one's finger, only to be met with a testy remark from the woman who did it, saying that all jewelry is cleaned before it's given to the customer. Regardless, what this woman did was simply unsanitary and frankly, gross. Adults in a retail setting don't need to spit on their fingers to pick up items. During this exchange with the two employees, the owner, Andrew Minton, was sitting within earshot and never once came over to say anything to me -- a customer who waited 2 months for earrings that were never worked on. I took my earrings back and will take them to another jeweler. Customer service at Andrew Minton Jewelers is poor and unprofessional.

Update: After posting my review, the store manager called to offer a re-repair of my engagement…read morering. However, I have already had the repairs done elsewhere (as stated in my review) due to valid concerns over work quality. During the call, it was made clear that because the mistakes were fixed elsewhere, they would not be taking any further steps to make the situation right. This was a problem they created as what should have been a straightforward repair turned into significant damage that forced me to take matters into my own hands and seek repairs with another jeweler. While I appreciated the follow-up, it is clear that the situation will not be made right. Original review: I'm extremely disappointed in my recent experience with Schwarzschild Keller & George Jewelers. I brought in my engagement ring on June 20 for what should have been a simple and routine prong re-tipping, quoted at $100. When I finally picked it up on July 11 (after delays), the ring looked nothing like the one I had entrusted to them: the prongs were uneven, the center stone was crooked, there were visible solder marks, and the craftsmanship was shockingly poor. I was told the work would be redone at no charge, but the damage to my ring and the quality of the first repair made me uncomfortable entrusting it to them again. A second jeweler has since confirmed that the entire head of the ring now needs to be rebuilt, at a cost of $375, damage that would not have occurred had the original work been done properly. I first contacted Keith directly on July 16 to try and resolve this, and then submitted a message via the "Contact Us" form on their website on July 21 (which states someone will respond within 48 hours). As of today, I have received no response at all. The lack of accountability and total silence from the store is unacceptable. I now have to spend nearly four times the original estimate to fix damage caused by their own poor workmanship. I would not recommend this jeweler based on my experience.

Another woman who works here offered me drinks snacks and a place to sit, while the manager briefly explained they were busy and how long it would be. We bought the midsize sluicing bag and split it between our two boys. There were so many gemstones in it! (almost not enough sand though) and the sluicing set up was really nice. Fun affordable summer activity for the kids. The store itself was clean and well organized, and it's always fun to see what cool rocks, gemstones and items of interest unique stores like this have stocked.
