Update: After posting my review, the store manager called to offer a re-repair of my engagement ring. However, I have already had the repairs done elsewhere (as stated in my review) due to valid concerns over work quality. During the call, it was made clear that because the mistakes were fixed elsewhere, they would not be taking any further steps to make the situation right. This was a problem they created as what should have been a straightforward repair turned into significant damage that forced me to take matters into my own hands and seek repairs with another jeweler. While I appreciated the follow-up, it is clear that the situation will not be made right. Original review: I'm extremely disappointed in my recent experience with Schwarzschild Keller & George Jewelers. I brought in my engagement ring on June 20 for what should have been a simple and routine prong re-tipping, quoted at $100. When I finally picked it up on July 11 (after delays), the ring looked nothing like the one I had entrusted to them: the prongs were uneven, the center stone was crooked, there were visible solder marks, and the craftsmanship was shockingly poor. I was told the work would be redone at no charge, but the damage to my ring and the quality of the first repair made me uncomfortable entrusting it to them again. A second jeweler has since confirmed that the entire head of the ring now needs to be rebuilt, at a cost of $375, damage that would not have occurred had the original work been done properly. I first contacted Keith directly on July 16 to try and resolve this, and then submitted a message via the "Contact Us" form on their website on July 21 (which states someone will respond within 48 hours). As of today, I have received no response at all. The lack of accountability and total silence from the store is unacceptable. I now have to spend nearly four times the original estimate to fix damage caused by their own poor workmanship. I would not recommend this jeweler based on my experience. read more

Had an amazingly easygoing experience at Keller and George, as I waited my turn they patiently took care of every customer in order in a timely manner! Linda helped me with my watch so fast and was a joy to talk with! Another woman who works here offered me drinks snacks and a place to sit, while the manager briefly explained they were busy and how long it would be. I smashed my engagement ring in a door related incident and was extremely distressed, calling around different places to see who might be able to take on such a case. I called Schwarzchild Keller and George and was assured they dealt with these problems all the time, that they had a jeweler with decades of experience and that I had nothing to worry about. I asked if they would be able to resize the ring in addition to repairing it and they assured me that it was within their capabilities. They let me know that they were extremely backed up and it could be up to a month before I got my ring back, which I was more than understanding of and did not question. My fiancé dropped it off, and a few weeks later they returned it right on schedule. Immediately I knew that my ring was not in the best shape still. Granted, it looked much better than it had smushed, but there were three glaring flaws that seemed beyond what such a reputable store should have considered a successful repair. 1. They returned the ring with a loose gem. From what I understand of the process, since it was a moissanite ring (Which was disclosed during my initial phone call) they had to take the gems out to reshape the gold. Not a problem, but it was shocking that such a glaring issue was overlooked and that my ring would be returned to me in such shape. 2. The gold band was crooked. It wasn't such a big deal to me as the loose stone, but it still reflected on their craftmanship overall. 3. Underneath where the gem goes, the gold was expanded and misshapen, looking very clunky. We brought this up with the store, they said that it must have been the result of the damage I caused. I am of the opinion that this is the result of their work during the resizing of the ring, but in any case, shouldn't it be the responsibility of the jeweler to fix? We asked them to reshape the ring after the accident and they assured us that it was something they could do, with no disclosure that they may not be able to repair the ring to perfect condition. They simply said the price for the repair/resizing and we paid it. They then quoted us an additional $400 to fix the third issue, which, if caused by my initial door accident, should have been disclosed to us when we initially dropped off the ring, not after they had already performed the full repair and determined it up to their standards. We respectfully made these concerns apparent. I was disappointed but sure that such a well-respected jewelry store would assuage my concerns. No! They said that they would review the photos they took of my ring upon intake and get back to me about whether they were liable. This in itself would be understandable, if it wasn't the last communication we received on the issue! We called again to verify the situation and were delayed again without any explanation, and so before they even got around to securing the loose gem, (they had the ring for well over a month at this point) we decided to pick up the ring and find a jeweler that we could trust instead. I don't understand how we could have been given such subpar results, and then such poor customer service from a jewelry store that is so well rated otherwise. When we got the ring back, they said, "You don't owe us anything." Of course we don't! We paid the initial cost of repair; you haven't done anything since then! We both agreed, it's like they don't even care!! I understand things take time and that sometimes it takes more than one tries to get it right, or perhaps they promised beyond what they were capable of. I don't know. I do know that I do not recommend this store for such repairs. read more

Our experience at Keller & George was exactly what every customer service experience should be. We just happened to be out for a walk with our pups in the area and decided to stop in. At first, my husband stood outside with the dogs while I browsed. Everyone greeted me upon entry and Linda came over to see if she could assist. I explained what I was looking for and she showed me some items in the store. We talked about pros and cons of a few options, then Linda presented an alternative, which she showed me online since it was at one of their other stores. I immediately loved the alternative, so I was going to go out and hold the dogs so my husband could look. Linda had us bring our pups in so both of us could look and talk. Folks in the store were very welcoming to the dogs and even keep dog treats on hand. But anyway, my husband liked Linda's suggestion as well. We went with the idea and she assured us that the jeweler would make everything fit perfectly. In essence, we had a three stone setting put onto a different band so that the ring would set flush against my wedding band. Richard did a fantastic job. I absolutely love my three stone ring. It turned out better than I could have imagined. It was also completed as promised, within a week. I couldn't be happier. Overall, it was the perfect experience. I spent a delightful hour or so with Julie Abse guiding me through the process of considering the many beautiful options the store offers. She neither rushed me nor tried to "sell" me on any particular line or item. Instead, she observed what I liked and didn't like and made suggestions accordingly. She is relatively new to the store but clearly becoming knowledgeable and genuinely interested in the ways the designers' distinctive approaches are reflected in the details of their designs. I have had the same set of pearls restrung there twice. The first time I brought them here, the woman at the counter actually ran my pearls across her teeth in front of me (I guess to tell for sure if they were real - they are). Each time, the pearls have broken just after the just after the "warranty" on the re-stringing job runs out. It is not like I am doing anything usual with the pearls, except wearing them on occasion. So I will not be taking them there a third time. read more

Such great service. Manager was very helpful. They were busy during lunch hours and were following strict social distancing rules, the manager handled the situation in the most appropriate manner. I waited and he then was able to help me fix my bracelets. After going to the back to use specific tools he handed them over for free. Great service and definitely recommended. This was my second time making a purchase at Keller and George, and again, I had a positive experience. I will admit my knowledge in the jewelry domain is quite limited, however, the staff here were exceptional at offering education and guidance to help me navigate the process of making a purchase. When my relationship with Keller and George initially began, I lived in Charlottesville, and now that I am out of state, I make the trip back to cville on occasions when I am planning to buy something special. When buying an engagement ring, I worked with Gail to help find the perfect one and plan payments/appraisal/pick-up, all from out of state. She and the other staff members were consistently available to answer any questions, and given how this experience went, I plan on driving back to Keller and George to buy our wedding bands. Wow! What a pleasant experience I just had at this jewelry store. I'm not even back home yet, but I felt compelled to immediately write a review! I am visiting from out of town and needed a watch to have some links taken out. My sister, who is a local now, recommended this family business. I went inside the the counter girl told me their repair guy dosent work on the weekends, and naturally, defeated, I was walking out. When, suddenly the owner, from her office area stopped me and asked to look at the watch. She pulled out her tool kit and said no problem. She fit the watch go my wrist and we chatted as she did her work. On top of it all- she did not even charge me. I must say Gail and the rest of the staff at Keller and George go above and beyond to ensure you are taken care of. Every time you open the door, you are always greeted with a smile by someone on staff. When it comes to buying Jewelry I get very indecisive about what I want for my now wife, myself and family. I want like anyone else to ensure the quality of the pieces are exceptional! Gail recently assisted me with ordering a custom engagement ring and custom wedding bands. I also worked closely with Gail and the jeweler to custom make a one of a kind pendant surrounded in diamonds out of a gem stone my wife and I had purchased on previous travels. I gave the pendant as a wedding gift to my wife on our wedding day. I gave them a budget to work with and they were able to keep it in my range with no problems. Words cannot explain how incredible it turned out, especially since it wasn't an average cut stone, I might have almost shed a tear after seeing it too. During the entire process of purchasing our wedding jewelry Gail kept in constant communication via email and phone to update me on the status of all of our orders. Absolutely unbelievably awful experience. I took my son's watch in to be repaired over two months ago and we still do not have it back! Not only do they promise to call with up-dates and don't but they don't return calls left on voice-message. We called 6 times Saturday and left messages with no call-back. We were told it would be ready at the LATEST Saturday and now it's maybe Thursday??? When I spoke to the manager she quite frankly could have cared less. I personally believe they lost the watch and are not telling us. We will never go back there and to anyone who is considering using them I strongly recommend re-thinking having anything repaired there - or even shop there. Customer service is everything these days especially for small business and I can say there is absolutely zero customer service at Keller & George. read more

I cannot speak highly enough of this store.  From the very moment I walked in, I was completely blown away by the warmth and professionalism of the staff.  I was in Charlottesville for work, and I came in around noon on a Thursday hoping to have my diamond ring resized before returning home the next day.  Every other jeweler I had gone to told me that they'd have to ship my ring out to have the work done, and it would be 1-2 weeks turnaround at least, but I figured while I was in town I'd give K&G a shot.  Ken, the store manager, personally took the time to ask about my situation.  When I explained that I had to leave the next day and would not be returning, he immediately went back to check if their master jeweler, Richard, could do an express job for me.  Ken guaranteed Richard could do it in-house within 24 hours and would have it ready before I had to leave town.  When Ken called just three hours later letting me know Richard had finished, I honestly wasn't even surprised -- that's how fantastic this business is.  When I swung by to pick up my engagement ring the same evening, Ken informed me that not only had Richard resized it (perfectly...I am in-between sizes and he got it just right), but he had noticed one of my prongs was damaged and retipped it free of charge.  Everyone in the store is lovely to talk to (and military friendly!) and the work is flawless.  I still can't believe Ken took the time to personally assist me on a busy Thursday afternoon in the middle of the holiday season, and that Richard was able to squeeze in my ring despite his many other orders during the busiest time of the year.  It's hard to find businesses that still operate like this, but this one truly makes customers feel like family.  I will be recommending this store to anyone who will listen, and cannot thank Richard, Ken, and the whole team enough.  It's clear they understand everything that a simple piece of jewelry can represent to someone, and they make every effort to honor that. read more

I've had to have my rings sized and worked on a few times and they're always done when promised and the timelines they give are faster than any other jewelry store I've called. My guy and I visited every jeweler we could find in Charlottesville, and this one was the first one where we said WOW, these guys know what they're doing! The shop is very orderly, well lit, and professional. They have a large variety, and we were happy with their engagement ring selections. We spoke with two different sales associates, both of whom were friendly, easy to talk to, HONEST, and were not pushy salesmen. They were genuinely people we would want to be friends with. We went to this Keller and George at least three times scoping out one ring in particular, and they talked us through what to look for in a diamond, how to customize the ring to meet our desires (and budget), and answered every question we had. Needless to say, after considering every engagement ring in Albemarle County, we settled on the one we found at Keller and George. I won't shop or get repair work done with this group. I had a Victoronix Swiss Army Watch I took in to get a battery replaced and just had one bad experience after then next. The first time I took it in they said they had to pressure seal it so it would take about a week to get back. I told them no problem and got the watch back and everything seemed good for a bit, but within a month everything got foggy inside the watch from condensation. So I took the watch back and mentioned the issue, they apologized and said they would take care of it at no charge which they did. However they apparently don't have the pressure sealers in house and just opened and closed it again with out sealing it properly like I paid for initially. Eventually the guts rusted out and had to take the watch back again which after arguing with them they agreed to take care of at no charge as I didn't know they didn't have a pressure device on-site, but shipped it to Richmond. Got the watch back and after another month the hands fell off inside the watch. After this I realized not only do they not know how to properly seal Swiss watches they also don't know how to repair them. At some point I will pay someone to do it again correctly. To me a good rule of thumb on telling if you are dealing with a good company is to see how they handle an issue. Many companies put on a face just to get the sale, but then when there is an issue they could care less. I recently had an issue with Keller & George. The manager was very polite and looked into the issue. The manager did not try and blow smoke or give a dozen reasons why they couldn't help. Her primary goal seamed to be upholding the companies image as well as maintaining a good customer relationship. Needless to say the issue was handled and I know have a great respect for this company. I highly recommend this Jewelers to anyone that not only wants quality work, but a company that stands behind both there products and service. read more
