One of my lenses was having intermittent issues communicating with my cameras. When the problem became more consistent, I asked my local camera store where they had repairs done. They mentioned CRIS. I had already determined which hardware in my lens was likely at fault, and emailed CRIS to ask how much repairs of that type would cost. The response was that they could only determine the cost after doing a bench evaluation. I spent about $55 to insure and mail my lens to CRIS. Based on my description of the problem and using Sony troubleshooting software, they ordered parts and gave me an estimate. As it turned out, they had not done any kind of bench analysis on the lens itself before providing an estimate. At some point, CRIS got its hands on another customer's camera, the same type as one of mine. They were unable to duplicate the problem (not unusual, since the problem is said to occur only with certain cameras of that model). CRIS was, understandably, reluctant to proceed with repairing my lens... because they'd be unable to determine if it had been fixed. I reluctantly agreed for them to return the lens, as-is, to me.... of course with another $55 shipping charge. When the lens arrived home, it no longer failed... at least not at first. Then the old failure resumed intermittently... and still does. Still, I believe CRIS to be an honest and competent repair shop. I only wish they'd given me the estimate I'd requested in the first place... and that they'd worked with Sony directly on the relatively uncommon defect in my lens. They really could have done better before I wasted so much money on postage. read more

I took my Sony RX100 in for a repair estimate. Unfortunately, the price was not economical for a 13 year old camera. However, the staff was courteous, honest about the cost, and the estimate was free. If I have issues with any Sony camera in the future, CRIS Camera will be my first stop. read more

I've had different equipment serviced over the years at CRIS and they have always done a great job for me! I just had a tripod head that needed to be serviced and CRIS was able to get it serviced and returned to me in a very reasonable amount of time. No way to talk to a customer service no matter what combination of their voicemail response I tried. Any combination of the path you take leaves you to the same "leave a message" endpoint. There is this annoying repetitive voice with the same message over and over. When I press 3 to leave a message as a compromise, there is a rude voice making "uninteresting" noise as the voice mail greeting. I am not sure what kind of professionalism they are practicing over there. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

Mail ordered (yea, that's a verb) a MR-9 battery converter so an old camera that uses a defunct battery would work. These little things aren't inexpensive and CRIS has a high quality part that's well worth the price. Same price as sim I'll at from Japan and no wait. The shipping charge made think twice but after seeing that the package was on its way the very next day... I was glad to pay the price. read more

The owner (Mark) informed me that they were a repair company but he said he'd see if he had anything that might work. He came back with a solution, and despite my insistence did not charge me for it. I cannot speak to their repair work because i have not sent them any of my gear (yet) but I can definitely speak to the character of the management of this business and it is phenomenal. Had a strange problem with one of my lenses. It took a while to figure out that's what it was. At first I thought it was my meter. Once I figured it out I contacted Nikon and they said to send the lens here. How fortunate I live and work within driving distance! No need to ship it! :-) So I drop my lens off, describe the problem, get my claim check. About two days later I receive an estimate in my email. It was actually less than I feared! So I call them and authorize the service. Today I got to pick up the lens. It appears to be fine now. I will, of course, be testing it more rigorously. They warranty their work on lenses for 6 months. I'd go with five stars, but I want to shake-down the lens first. I reserve the right to come back an increase my rating if I'm still happy a few months from now! But this has just become my go-to repair place for all things photographic. read more

My Gitzo fluid head was sticking, I'm from NY, and at first I wasn't happy to find the only factory option for repair was simply shipping it blind across the country... Ten days later, I had to call to see if they received it, 3 weeks later to find out status. Each time I did get the right answers, they needed parts from Italy, it took 2+ months total... Beware of their "estimate" service. The "free" estimate included lodging a large particle under the focusing screen when I decided not to proceed with the repair work. Perhaps they were planning to clean things up during the repair process, but it is disappointing they did not take better care of my equipment as part of their estimate process. 5 weeks for a lens repair. Paid them in May but they claimed the parts didn't ship until last week. 7 days to ship from New York to Arizona. They must have used pony express. I had a UPS ground package arrive from the East Coast arrive in 4 days. Is this length of repair time normal? I hope they do good work because the repair cost me almost 35% the value of the lens...it was a zoom function issue. Nothing wrong with the glass or electronics. read more

Just got the lens and camera back from the CRIS center... Sigma 50mm + 5D3 I tried for several days to dial in the camera to the lens... erratic focusing, severe back focusing. I used Lens Align and their Focus Tune software and my results varied from +7 to +18 ... it was all over the place. I don't know what kind of voodoo they worked at CRIS... but ... WOW! The lens hits at F/1.4 ...very sharp... usable images. It hits at varying distances as well. Very happy with the initial results.... now I need to find something cool to shoot. :) So... if you have having issues...with the lens.. and it's still under warranty... or not... send it in with the camera body. This review is long overdue, but I just want to praise the staff at CRIS for going above and beyond to get my camera fixed in time for an upcoming event I had scheduled. I had two Nikon cameras that both had shutter issues at the same time. I had contacted Nikon directly and their turnaround for warranty repair was 6-8 weeks, and it looked like the parts weren't going to arrive in time. The CRIS staff went out of their way to get the parts and fixed everything for me on both cameras in time for my event. Whenever I've had camera issues they've always been great, I trust them and will always take my cameras there for service. read more

My husband was getting spots on the sensor of his Nikon DS7100 that he bought Oct'2014. Nikon had recommended that since C.R.I.S. is an authorized Nikon repair facility and that they were local, to try them before sending into Nikon, which is what we did. C.R.I.S. assessed that the sensor was dirty and said it would be $65 and that was something that the warranty would not cover. So we paid the $65 and they cleaned the sensor. They verified it was clean with images taken afterwards, but I never saw those. Took the camera home and within a few pictures, my husband was still seeings spots on his pictures. Called C.R.I.S. again about this and they said they would clean again for free, which they did. After the 2nd cleaning, they took a bunch of pictures and though initially right after the 2nd cleaning, the pictures had no spots, upon taking more pictures still at their shop, they now saw dark spots that were highly noticeable. So then a 3rd cleaning was done and a bunch of pics taken afterwards with no spots. We only paid the first time for the cleaning. 2nd and 3rd cleanings were on C.R.I.S. Now, a couple or so weeks after the 3rd cleaning and some intermittent, but little use of the camera, my husband began seeing spots AGAIN. C.R.I.S. had said that there is a space between the sensor and something else that creased an air pocket. When the aperture is moved (which on a DSLR, you definitely move this to take pics), dust particles that might have been there during manufacturing could be sucked into the sensor area. Really? That's pretty bad. Anyway, we called Nikon this time and they said after 3 cleanings and we're still experiencing this problem, we need to send it in to Nikon. All my dealings with C.R.I.S. - Angela, Mike and everyone else were super nice to me. They were polite and professional. And right now, I can't remember the main guy's name that did the cleaning, but he was very thorough in explaining to me what happened. But, I cannot repeat what he said because it only partially made sense to me. They worked with me/us on this issue and they expedited our cleanings. I see some of the negative reviews are from out of town people, so I cannot speak for them. But, seeing these people face to face, dropping off and picking up my camera, talking to them over the phone, I had no issues. I felt good about the information they gave me, and that they did their best to resolve our problem. Now Nikon has to take over, though. read more

Hey just a heads up. I had a fairly bad lens experience with C.R.I.S. lens repair out of Arizona. So my story. I have a 300-800 sigma lens that the focus was squeaking and manual focus was binding up. This is the main reason why I sent it to them. Figure something was going out on the lens and obviously it needed repairs. Anyway, my first contact with them I called them and asked if they could fix my lens. I figured it was still serviceable but wanted to check just to make sure. I talked with a guy via phone and said yea. He asked specifics about the lens version and I said yep it is this and that version. He said yep send it in. The way it works is I have to pay for the transportation cost both ways so just wanted to make sure instead of wasting money on shipping something they cannot work on. Anyway spent $80 shipping my lens to them, got an automated reply saying we will take 5 days to look over your lens and give you estimates. About 1 week later I get this email saying sorry we cannot service your lens as it is no longer in serviceable/parts with Sigma. I wrote back asking hey what ??? I was kind of shocked but rolled with the punches like well, we talked and you said you could fix it but now it is out of date?? Everybody makes mistakes I get it I guess I will let it go. Then I emailed back a bunch of questions like anyway I can get it fixed?, can we turn it into a manual lens with manual focus only? I wrote them that the manual focus was sticking along with the automated focus. After about 1 week of no replies I get a bill for shipping it back to them for $60. After no reply I called them up and asked some more questions. I wanted to get clarification. I spoke with a rep and he said "Yea the manual focus works you can use it as a manual focus. You just have to push the switch" I asked the switch there is no switch on the lens that I have seen ???, I then asked did you guys check out the manual focus ?? He says yea notes from the Service guy says he checked the manual focus and it looks good. I said that's the reason why I sent it in is because both the auto and manual focus are binding up. I then said you know I do not think you guys checked it. He says well I will check right now. He comes back a few minutes later and says yea it works fine. At that point I am completely skeptical but what the heck do I say... I asked did he work on it or fix it without noting anything with the manual focus? The rep replies back no everything seems fine, in a monotone quick paced voice. I got the feeling he just wanted to get me off the phone and move on to the next thing. I was like something is not right but felt like this guy just wants to get rid of me ASAP. After a week of waiting the lens it finally gets back to me. YEP upon me pulling out the lens from the box, it took all but 20 secs of moving the manual focus back and forth to fell the massive binding of the lens. I sent them an email about my experience and this is what they replied with "Sorry that you are upset. I remember being asked about Manual Focus on a lens and both technicians that were asked found it to be working. We didn't do anything to make it work, it just did. We did not feel any binding as the MF worked smooth and unrestricted. Now it sounds like something is binding or had it bound. This is clearly something intermittent as this didn't happen for us." THAT is BS, this is the reason, Why I Sent the lens in. The binding is not intermittent it is just about constant just play with it for 1 min. NOW The next statement is because I asked in person if they could work on the lens before I spend a bunch of money sending it. "The last thing we want to do is tell someone we cannot repair their product. Why? We do not charge for repairs if we cannot make any. I'm sorry you have paid shipping to and from out facility however, we cannot tell if we can fix a problem without inspecting as the service life of lenses changes more often than you would think. One day we could be fixing a lens and a new product could come out and the manufacturer deems it as a non-serviceable item that we can no longer get parts for." Lessons learned, I Spent money they could not repair or really care. A waste of $140 and 3 weeks of time.   I would just find somebody else to work on your lenses. jay read more

I had my Canon Rebel T1i repaired after I dropped it. They did a good job with it, they not only repaired it but also cleaned it and updated the software (which hadn't been done since 2010). This was all included in the repair price. It took about 2 weeks, but I wasn't in a rush. Their communication was very clear about what they were doing and how much it would cost. I've had occasion to make use of C.R.I.S. twice. The first time was to get my Flash's Firmware upgraded under warranty, they performed the service quickly, efficiently and the flash worked perfectly afterward. They shipped it back in excellent packaging and it was just as I had sent it in. The second time was when my Sigma 50-500mm lens stopped autofocusing. I spoke with a representative and described the symptoms, they said it sounded like the autofocus motor had gone out and gave me an estimate. I shipped them the lens, they confirmed the estimate upon arrival and I paid to have it repaired. It was fixed, tested and shipped back top me inside of 48 hours from arriving. It came back in a box twice as big as i sent it out, and was very well padded and protected. It is working like new since they repaired it. All told including shipping both ways it took 14 days for the repair, very happy. I'd recommend them to anyone needing a Sigma lens serviced. read more

CRIS is probably the most unaccommodating camera repair service in the country. Manfrotto I am sure makes it even worse and does not help to make the repair easier. I am probably going to sell my Manfrotto tripods (and keep my newly repaired head) for the one sized fits all Gitzo. I have tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment so the last thing I need is to buy another $300 geared head while I am waiting for my brand new one to be repaired. I was busy for 5 months and could not be without the head. How can Manfrotto not have a repair depot in close proximity New York or LA? Mac camera is nearby NYC. So, first I have to ship my months old warrantied part to them ($20). Then it takes 2 weeks for them to replace EVERY SINGLE PART of the geared head. It would have been cheaper for them to refurb it and send me a new one. The part was repaired. Probably better than the condition than the one I received new. Shipping was at a medium pace. The one thing I did find very helpful was that I was able to track my repair online. read more

I've had my tripod sitting at the service facility in Chandler, Arizona for over 7 weeks now. Simply waiting on a sliding part for my tripod. It is covered under warranty and their customer service people can't do anything to expedite or provide me with any kind of update or resolution except "we're waiting." I never received an email regarding a service number, an update or even to say they received the tripod successfully over 7 weeks ago. Finally, after sending an email explaining my frustration, my tripod was repaired and sent back to me within 2 days. Funny how that works, I should be receiving it soon. In the future I will never use these guys again. Super slow turnaround time, little to no communication and a "I don't really care, not my fault or my problem attitude," because they are a third party repair service. read more

My Nikon D3200 hasn't taken a nice picture in 2 years, since new. Nothing I did would make it work right. Steve at C.R.I.S. went over it and over it and could find zero problems. He tweaked a couple of settings and stated that it was working fine for him. I went there and he VERY PATIENTLY took the time to show me a few things and I was able to sit there and time and time again get nice shots out of it. They totally spent the time and didn't have to do very much - but they didn't even charge me for it. Time isn't free, though, and I thought that was incredibly kind. I will never go elsewhere. I needed a repair on my Sigma 150-500. I knew they were an authorized Sigma repair center so I decided to send it to them even though my warranty had expired. The autofocus wasn't working, it took a long time to fix it as I think they were communicating back and forth with Sigma. It was a little over a month, but when I received my lens back I was amazed at the performance. I have only done a few test shots but it seems to be working better than before I had the problems. They also cleaned it for me (it was awfully dirty) and I felt like I just received a brand new lens. Cost was $210 but you gotta pay for the things you can't do yourself. They will be my repair center of choice for now on. Customer service was always polite and straight forward. read more

I took two cameras here for repairs and had been pleased with the service. However, when a camera I took to them for a new memory board broke the very next time I used it, there started to be problems. First, I was quoted for one repair at $320. I took the camera home to think about it and suddenly when I returned it was a $400 job. Now they wanted to replace more things! What's more, the part is only $100. When faced with this kind of price gouging and what can only be a shoddy estimate the first time, or quoting of things that didn't need to be replaced the second time- I took my camera and left. They lost a customer and I'm upset that I had spent so much money with them on previous repairs. If you appreciate your money don't go to C.R.I.S. camera! read more

My broken Sony digital camera is not expensive, yet the two times I replaced it, I wasn't happy. I decided to see if the Sony could be repaired. I'm very happy with the service from C.R.I.S. They listened to my explanation, wrote a report/receipt and promised to call soon with an estimate. The estimate was less than each of the two cameras I purchased, so I went for it. C.R.I.S. found and fixed a unique problem 100% with my Nikon D80 that Nikon USA Corporate Repair Center in El Segundo, CA could not find and refused to fix.. Their written reply: "your camera is deemed not repairable to Nikon Specifications". Nikon's total repair process and communications was a long nightmare. Finally, upon its return, I sent it to C.R.I.S. where the wizard of camera repair, Steve, discovered a short on the Digital Graphics card which he re-soldered, completely solving my camera problem...i.e., SAVING my $1400 Nikon camera! All this after Nikon 1-800 Tech Support had "trashed" their independent repair centers and strongly encouraged me to send it only to them for repair. Plus, I learned that the Nikon USA Corporate Repair Center has an "F" Better Business Bureau rating....C.R.I.S. has a strongly earned "A+" BBB rating. 'Nuff Said! read more

Sharing 'C.R.I.S. Camera Services' with my friends with Nikon cameras as an alternative to Nikon direct, as their are zero local, REPUTABLE, repair facilities in Colorado for Nikon. C.R.I.S. has provided outstanding customer service (they always pick up the phone and are courteous), used OEM parts to repair my camera and although I get my camera after the holiday weekend (bummer), it still only took them about 13 business days to turn my camera around and that includes getting the parts shipped to them from Nikon. All of this for 1/3rd of what Nikon charges as they do flat rates. I'd recommend C.R.I.S. to anyone. read more

03/09/2010 I am newly transferred to the Phoenix area by my company, advanced amateur photographer, and a discriminating consumer of the old school who will hold a company to the highest standards of performance and service. Would go out of my way to praise excellent service. I wish this was the case here. A call to the customer service department for a preliminary review and initial information was a real turn-off. The representative had no technical knowledge. She offered sloppy information, sounded like a kid, refused to put me in touch with a knowledgeable spokesperson, acted like she was in control of the entire transaction from beginning to end. The only thing that was missing was the chewing gum. Later, a voice message to management went unanswered. This opinion is based on a first impression, but I consider first impressions crucial. A reputable business would have never allowed a telephone greeter to hijack the entire operation and insult the customers. This company has failed my white glove test. Upon further research, I was informed by a mature camera salesperson of at least two other expert camera repair establishments in town with long history in the business and great reputation which would probably be meeting my exacting high standards. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Question from a reader on another Web Site RG - 03/04/11 What did you need repaired? This may have been a blessing because I got impeccable service at another establishment run by an expert master technician with established reputation in this area for many years. Actually, a professional photographer is referring to him as the patriarch of camera repairs. Meeting him was a great pleasure. Unfortunately, I cannot mention the location of his lab in this review but it is well known. By the way, I noticed most reviews are posted following my comment. CRIS staff is friendly and genuinely seem to care about your questions and concerns. I got my Nikon D3100 repaired here 2 weeks ago. It took weeks for them to fix a shutter malfunction. Yes it was a long time. It works perfectly now. What an experenced photographer knows is that when a camera repair needs a part, the repair company is at the mercy of the manufacturer, unless they use cheap Chinese parts. And manufacturers are notoriously often out-of-stock. Classy companies won't throw the manufacturer under the bus to cover their behinds, which this company aparently does not do. Further, it's funny that most of the negative reviews here are 1-reviewers (i.e. competiters trashing them with fake reviews). How does a memory board "Break"? LOL. Keepin' it classy! Cris is friendly, fast and most importantly honest. sorry if you don't like your quote or they tell you not to waste your money on a repair. Higly suggest for Phoenix photographers. read more
