There is moisture down the wall under the vent, and some dirt that was forced down there by the water pressure on the flower bed. We weren't sure how bad the damage was, and tried to help dry the crawl space by putting a small fan down there. But, I thought we'd better call someone who knows how to evaluate the damage and make suggestions and/or repair the damage. So we called Beacon. Rich answered the phone and arranged for us to get a visit from him that very afternoon. I was out of the house, but my son (38) was there when Rich came out. My son was very impressed with Rich's willingness to go down into the crawlspace and evaluate the issues. He said Rich was professional, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. Not only that, he was ethical enough to tell my son that because the irrigation issue was fixed, and there was really no damage that needed fixing, all was being taken care of well enough. I had imagined that he would be saying that he needed to put holes in the wall and bring giant fans to allow everything to dry, costing an arm and a leg, but instead, he came and gave us a no-cost evaluation and recommended we keep doing what we were doing (just a household fan and a little clean-up). The tech never went outside to check the pipe and determined that we needed holes cut in 2 walls, etc...to the tune of almost $1000 for the repair and they don't fix the drywall after so that would be more $$. Then $1750 to bring in blowers to dry the carpet and they don't replace the pad after so that would be more $$. Looked on our neighborhood app and found a plumber that came highly recommended. He came out right away, went outside showed me the issue, had the parts, fixed the issue within 20 minutes for $225. Also, he confirmed that we had done what needed to be done by renting a blower for $35 and drying our carpets ourselves. This is inexcusable, this is what gives the industry a bad reputation, I had heard in the past to never use Roto Rooter but gave them a chance. When I called to cancel their appointment and explained why, they excuse was that the tech "mis-diagnosed" the problem. I hope their employees find a way to work elsewhere.
