I am not a super outdoors person so I didn't know how much I'd enjoy a visit here. My boyfriend likes fishing and outdoors things like that and I do not. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed my visit here. My six year old son did as well. The stores was HUGE and clean. We all enjoyed the live fish in large tanks. Cabela's is an enormous store for fishing, hunting, camping, boating and everything outdoor related. The store can be a bit overwhelming because of its size, but it is well organized. There is a hunt, fish , camp and shoot areas. In the center of the store is a display with several large , museum like wildlife displays that are very lifelike. Be prepared to see bears and lions and a large mountain. There is also a massive freshwater aquariums. We have been coming annually for Santa pictures . The Santa's Wonderland is a wonderful rustic setting and photos are free and come with a complimentary fish shaped cookie cutter !! read more

I've been shopping here all my life. Never again. You can't use the elevator without having high-pressure vacation salespeople in your face, never respecting polite declines. The last time I was there, it was virtually empty, and the firearm department had 4 clerks behind the counter, all playing with their phones. All I wanted was for one of them to unlock the ammo case and get me some shotshells, and they said I had to fill out a bunch of information into their new kiosk so I know when I'm next in line. What line? The place was empty! The same day I had them deny a return because they claimed my membership was flagged for fraud. That's it! I'm done. There are way better options these days, and I will celebrate when this company files for bankruptcy. read more

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Highly recommend going to any place else to buy a boat. We dealt with numerous salesman, managers, finance managers. We were getting calls every other day after putting down the down payment to confirm pick up. Set it up for 8/21 for delivery, but the 'notary' had a doctor's appointment and was not in. One person said, emergency room, one said medical emergency from work, and the actual guy today 8/22 said a cardiologist appt. Someone could've said he won't be in, and maybe we wouldn't have requested to leave work early. As I was on the phone with him, and verifying everything would be good to when my husband got there. He said who are you again, you're not on the paperwork? I said ya, I don't need to be. But it's our boat, like I said my husband. I'm the one who sent all the paperwork in to begin with. I said just waiting on a response from him, as we were told 20,000 was needed down compared to the 6,500 originally discussed. So wanted to verify via text he was aware of this. I said give me one minute just waiting for him to respond, to verify he knows this. Rep said, take your time. No rush, that's why I'm reaching out to verify, too. All of a sudden, he said okay: well you obviously don't know anything anout any of this stuff and call me back when you do, or have your husband do it and hung up on me. Unfortunately, I'm a nurse and I hope and pray during a medical emergency we don't provide the same care he did at this time. I worked at a car dealership during college and I've never seen or heard anything like what has transpired the last few weeks. We thought a dealership was the best way to go for a brand new boat versus a private owned sale boat. (Clearly we were wrong, and I've never felt so pressured daily mixed with dismissive as a woman/wife and didn't know anything). Like I said, I worked at an Acura car dealership during college and now I'm a nurse. In neither circumstance would I EVER treat someone, a patient or a potential client, the way I was today. To say you don't know anything and call me when you do.... And click. No, thank you. The amount we just spent on a brand new boat. This is one of those places where you will end up coming no matter how hard you resist if you fish, hunt, shoot, camp, cook, or just love the outdoors. I try to give local and small online stores business, but Cabela's has almost everything, like papa Bass Pro Shops. They have everything either in store, ship to store, or ship to home, complete with a strong, competitive return and exchange policy. Products are there to see for yourself before buying. It can be risky ordering online to find out your waders were "slim fit" or your chartreuse swimbait is so bright that it charges solar panels. Try to ignore the innuendo, but rods must be held and gripped to pair with proper fishing application and reels. Hiking footwear needs to be tried on. Sometimes prices may be higher with their advantage of availability. Lines in certain departments can be outrageously long. After saying all of that, ultimately Cabela's is indeed eye candy outdoor lovers so I love coming here and anything that I've said iis likely an excuse to visit. read more

One gentleman working the firearms counter explained to me that he wasn't trained, so wasn't able to assist me in getting my order. The quality of the product they sell here are really high, the prices are affordable compared to other similar stores. We are a member of the Cabela's club When you first walk inside the store on the right side there's a desk and you can sign up for or learn more about it. They gave us two free baseball caps and a duffel bag which we were not even expecting. You can buy tokens at the front desk For the electronic shooting range located on the top floor all the way to the left. You use a laser gun to hit targets to activate mechanical props. It is a lot of fun. There is also a huge fish tank on the first floor and a big mountain display with "stuffed" animals and birds that are fun to look at. If your looking for a gift for someone who loves to fish, camp, hunt, and spend time outdoors this is the place to shop for them! read more

The holidays are upon us and it's time to take those Santa pictures! Cabela is a good place to go since it's FREE!! You just have to go on the website and reserve your time! When you get there, the line moves fast if there is one. If there is a line, the kids can write to Santa or play with toy logs. There is also a target/shooting game to play with so make sure to bring cash for the tokens. The Santa could've been a little bit more jolly but my kids were still excited and joyful. I wanted to give zero stars but that's not possible!!! I do not recommend buying a boat with a boat manager named Lucas E. I bought a fishing boat with few extra electronics for almost 90k, the electronics were to be installed according to my recommendations which I discussed with him.. However, when I picked my boat, 2 out of 4 things were not installed in the places I had indicated!!! Another surprise was waiting for me on a fishing trip 3 hours from home. It turned out that Lucas' crew mixed up the batteries and connected my electronics to a battery that was not connected to a charger. My fishing trip turned out to be a complete disaster just because of that, I won't even tell you how much money I lost because of his negligence and lack of professionalism. However, when I asked if anyone had looked at the boat before I dropped it off, he said yes and if I didn't like what they have a done, he told me not to bring the boat to his shop anymore!!! I'm not longer welcome in Cabela's Hoffman Estate, IL. read more

My wife was a wonderful addition to Cabela's for a number of years. She was number 1 in sales for all of their metrix's. When she developoed a disability and could not stand any more, she was put into their disabilility program. But Voya dismissed her diability and did not pay out what they should. As a result, my wife received nothing, and I hold Bass Pro Shops accountable for their decision to hire Voya as their short term disability insurer. They FAILED to hire a viable insurance company that woud actually do the job. They are so focused on their own image, they do not care about their employees. My calls to their HR deparmant to pay her health insurance are met with nasty employees, and I do not know what she did to deserve this. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BASS PRO OR CABELA's!!!!! We love coming to pet friendly Cabela's and checking out good reliable brands here like North Face, Under Armour and Columbia. It never seems crowded here, even on weekends when we've come lately. While regular priced items seem higher than what you can get online for similar products, it is worth checking the sale racks. Some items are branded Bass Pro. I had to go to Customer Service immediately following my last purchase because a sale item rang up at $10 more and at full price rather than the sale tag. A reminder to always check your receipt and make sure your purchase is correct. It was a little inconvenient to stand in line again, so soon after my purchase, but they thankfully fixed it right away. read more

The serial number on the box didn't match the one he was registered to. Was back and forth between calls- told us to come in at 1pm on Saturday. A Saturday pop in for some early Xmas shopping and wow how they lack customer service compared to a great selection of goods. I went to the 2nd floor to get a headlamp for my son. Found one I wanted for $50, but it was locked on a hanging mechanism. I walked all over to find no one readily available to get it for me. Frustrated with the time I grabbed one that was also nice, less money, but was not locked down. I have to laugh that the goal of locking down something so it's not stolen to find that you can't even purchase it! The worst part of my experience was yet to come when paying for my items. Christine the cashier had no smile and just seemed like she was not happy to be in front of anyone. She scanned my items and added to a bag. Asked me if I wanted to round up my purchase to a kids fund. I said no thanks then she asked me for my phone # and I also said no thanks you can just skip that, but she actually seemed as if she was mad at me for saying no to both. She gave me my bag and I said thank you and she said nothing. As I was folding my receipt to put into my wallet the next customer having a bunch of shirts in his arms plopped them all down on her counter which she quickly said with a negative tone "slow down" I can take all of them. I'm sure a big store like this has many staff members that do a great job, however I don't make it out to Cabela's to often, but this visit was not that inspiring. read more

I wish the women's section was larger but oh well. Came here on Black Friday and the place was cleared out!!! We do get ammo here from time to time. They run some good deals. I can't comment too much on the quality or pricing of the items at Cabela's, but as a photographer I appreciate the very large number of photo opportunities presented by the aquarium, mountain, and various displays through the store. Although these are staged displays, they are presented in life-like situations with very high levels of detail and lit very well. The store itself is enormous with 185k sq ft of everything you could want from clothing to guns to tents to boats to fishing equipment to food. If I was more of an outdoors person, this would be a great one-stop-shop for me to take care of all my adventure needs. This store also offers a great selection of generic Cabela's brand products which offer high quality at a great value. Overall, if you are an outdoors person -- this is an enormous store with everything you could need. But, this is also a great place to visit if you're a photographer and want a large variety of different nature scenes to take pictures of. read more

This review is regarding a very unpleasant and appalling experience my family and I had on 04/02/2023. We requested general information about a tracker 300 including financing. The sales consultant who assisted us was Alan Kita. He briefly explained how the financing process would be and printed out details about the tracker in question. As he was handing my husband the forms he proceeded to say "I just want to let you know that in order to qualify with the lenders that we work with you need to be a U.S citizen". I was appalled and sick to my stomach when he made such ignorant and racist remarks. Why would he assume we're not US citizens? He clearly made that assumption based on the color of our skin and our last name. This type of interaction with customers should not be tolerated by nobody. Cabela's this is unacceptable and I hope you do not condone this type of behavior in your stores. With that said I will never return to Cabela's. I will not shop at a store where employees feel comfortable enough to make such ignorant and racist comments to customers. Cabela's do better. read more

Amused by the one-star commentators who really come off as spoiled brats that don't get enough attention. If in doubt, check out their other reviews and you will see a clear pattern. Have been to the Hoffman Estate's Cabela's a ton of times since it opened in 2007. Amazing store. Inventory is outstanding....for the most part but there are items that I find at Bass Pro which are not at Cabela's (specifically in the fishing department). Probably to be expected. They changed their policy to allow dogs which appreciate as I sometimes like to stop in when riding by Harley with dog along for the day. I respect establishments that do not allow dogs as it should be their business decision. Always found their personal to be knowledgeable. Some of their fishing department personal have professional guide experience! Most of the personal in the Gun section have professional and military experience as well. FYI: Store is in Cook ("Crook") County and thus they have some "special taxes" depending on what you buy. Wish they would have built three miles further west outside Crook County! Great outdoors store!! It's a little off the beaten path and can be confusing to find when using GPS. It's in an area that you can tell they are starting to build up with new shopping plazas that have a great selection of stores. The store it's self is huge and when you walk in you feel like you have entered the wilderness. Anything you need for your outdoor needs you can find here, they even sell boats. They have a huge selection of guns and cross bows for avid hunters. It's a really cool store to just explore and find things that maybe you didn't know existed lol. If you are looking for a place that sells really warm outdoor clothing this is your store. This is also a really awesome store to bring the kids especially if it's a day of bad weather and you don't want to be cooped up in the house. They have this huge mountain in the center of the store with all different animals from around the world with more animals scattered throughout the store. They provide a scavenger hunt sheet for the kids and the kids have to find each animal listed and answer questions about them. It's interactive and exciting for the little ones. They also have a huge fish tank inside the bottom of the mountain with different fish that you can learn about. When you go up stairs there is a shooting game that the kids can play and it will keep them busy for as long as you allow it. Overall really cool store to just walk around and explore. Just left Cabela's after picking up my online order of a new fishing rod. Customer service was fast and prompt, and then when I went to look for essential accessories the staff helped put the string on the reel. During this process Eric helped me find some lures and such that would work for a beginner like me. He was very helpful and informative. The store is HUGE and while it's somewhat tucked away, it is simple to get to. I was only in maybe 1/5 of the store and what they had to offer but for folks who hunt, boat, camp, fish, whatever, I'm sure this is paradise for them. They have a great selection of clothes for the outdoors and a good hiking boot selection. So if your looking for warm clothes then this is the spot. And they have great camo gear for hunters. It's also a cool place for kids because they have tons of stuffed animals for them to see and they have small aquarium. And they have a fudge shop which makes the place smell great. This is a very large establishment which carries a lot of merchandise - from boats to guns to ice fishing boots - mostly toys for big boys. The guys from Duck Dynasty would love this place. They have a huge gun collection with a lot of used and brand new guns. They also have a clothing section for bored wives and girlfriends to entertain themselves with whilst their husbands and boyfriends scurry through the gun, boat, and hunting gear sections. I purchased a gun from here and the transaction went smoothly. The gun salesmen are older guys who are very knowledgeable; they're just a bit slow with computers. They also carry BB guns, archery bows, and tasers. The wooden decor and decorative deer heads remind me of old western bars perfect for Clint Eastwood. I love this place and visit whenever I can. PS: Their prices might be a bit high; their gun cleaning kit costs 5x more than that available online. read more

If I can give this place a zero I would. 1st let start by the staff that takes 30 mins to input an address correctly I think my 3 grader son can type faster then some people Working in here , 2. They don't call you when you have been approved so if you live 30 mins away make sure your gonna take the trip to see at least 3-4 time to even see because they will write a date make you come in and knowing it won't be approved and when you call they said they can't give you any information over the phone l. This place need more of a management team to take over and hire all new staff. That is more up to pace and taking 3 hours per customer. I will also be writing an email to corporate head office. Every time I visit here I notice these Russian, smoking, driving like assholes pulling into the store, wearing their FILA tracksuits and buying guns. So I went to here to get some 9mm ammo to go to the gun range with my Son-in-law and daughter for Father's Day. Obviously I was excited and looking forward to a quick in and out experience, but Jeez I was wrong! First of all there wasn't much selection in the ammo racks and there was only "One" 500 bullet capacity package....we went over to the cashier area at the gun counter location...3 lighted stations with three cashier's....kinda busy because it's Dad's day, so me and my Son-in-law stood patiently with the ammo can.....the cashier nearest to us finished up and we waited for longer than usual timeframe as this older gentleman just completely ignored us and didn't even acknowledge us waiting at all?? The other two cashier's were helping customers with rifle purchases and handgun too, so we just waited again and then this older gentleman just left the area and went towards the backroom without any dismissal or acknowledgment towards us? Zero...zilch...nada!! No excuse me or I'll be right back or anything.....just left us cold n unserved, I finally just interrupted the other cashier and excused myself asking if we can just take the ammo can to purchase anywhere else.....he replied yes of course you can ....I said well thanks for the help since the other guy just left us stranded and never acknowledged us at all.... He replied "I'm sorry" but you do know there's a surcharge for ammo purchase from "Cook County" right? I just wanna make you aware of this when you pay? That's it....I thought to myself? That's how they replied to us? My Son-in-law has his Army Cap on with his Unit's patch on it and I have my Marine Corps Dad Cap on my head.....not that this should give us any priority towards purchasing but Holy cow maybe something else other than nothing? We reluctantly went towards front checkout area and once again another odd experience...waiting in line as another cashier with light on was just standing there....didn't wave us down or acknowledge us again....I nudged my Son-in-law to move ahead and go on up...the cashier finally replied " Ooh I didn't seeya there"?? He asked about FOID card to make ammo purchase which is customary....rang us up and I paid but then he got sidetracked by another cashier and forgot about us as we waited for the receipt??? I just spent $145.00 bucks on this 9mm ammo can and really felt less than accommodated by this experience overall.... Mind you this is on "Father's Day" and you'd think that customer service would be at the upmost bestest in consideration of this Family oriented day? I have a Bass Pro Shop credit card too and member as well, I'm not going to a Cabella's Store again for anything after this incident.....I'll spend my money elsewhere!! read more

Honestly it's fun to just walk around here and look at all the wild sh*t you never even knew existed. I'm a girl (duh), and i'm not really a sportsman - and so most of this stuff is foreign to me. But i find it absolutely fascinating to look at! It makes me WANT to be more of a sportsman (sportswoman, lol). Seems like they have almost everything you'd ever need for camping, hunting, fishing etc... including clothing, footwear and outerwear! Heck they've even got boats INSIDE the store to check out! There's lots of heads, and stuffed carcuses too. Oh, and beef jerky. Lots of beef jerky. There's also a little deli-type thing where you can buy food and snacks. Overall i think it's fun to come here. After reading several of the other reviews, i'm not sure i'd come here if i were specifically looking for something gun related, sounds like they have issues there. But i do not have personal experience so cannot comment on that. It's off the beaten path a bit. You might think you're going the wrong way.
