worked at this location for about a year and a half and let me tell you what. this is probably the most unprofessional stores that i have ever seen. i have seen people call in sick day in and day out and not a word is said. i give a short 2 day notice (at least it was a notice) on a day off that i needed, and was called on that day off and was told i was being terminated. the best part is no one even called me to tell me that my vacation time was denied so i didn't even know that received no call prior. most of the downstairs management is cool but the upstairs are a bunch of people that could care less about you or the effort you put into the store. the conditions that you work in are unbelievable for what you are paid. i only stayed because of the staff downstairs; the cleaning equipment is sub-par at best. if the management forgets to get gloves or masks/booties then you are still forced to go into the ranges to clean them regardless of safety. a representative from OSHA recently came out and everyone there started flipping shit and cleaning everything repeatedly for about a week. you would think for a multi-million dollar company the management would be able to afford some working cleaning supplies we have 1 busted mop downstairs to clean with. the filters from the ranges were thrown into the dumpsters for at least a year while i was working there lets just throw the lead right into the parking lot basically. there are multiple gun programs that are through the store yet again the staff usually don't get to see any of that because if you win anything it instantly belongs to the store and gets sold. i worked there for a year and a half and its funny because i don't think the upstairs even learned my name until about a year in. all in all its a very poorly run business. read more

I called G.A.T. Guns,Inc located at 970 Dundee Ave East Dundee,Illinois 60118 847-428-4867 president Gregory Tropino on 23 May 2018(Weds). Spoke with Chuck who quoted me one price(when I asked for the total pricing) and then Chuck took a deposit of $100 from my credit card. On 04 June 2018(Tues-14 days later) the weapon arrived at GAT Guns,Inc so I was making arrangements to pick up my weapon when the final pick up cost changed. Now GAT Guns,Inc wants to charge a $5 background fee(when I ordered the weapon from GAT Guns,Inc) and not to mention Chuck NEVER added the sales tax in the cost(when I specifically asked for the total cost which should have included the tax). I could have purchased from Texas and saved money, but GAT Guns,Inc indicated that they could get faster locally. Then the manager comes on the phone and we have words(I told her that this was terrible business when now you change figures AFTER my weapon arrives). I hung up on the manager after agreeing to pay the changed figures and I told her that I would NEVER buy from GAT Guns,Inc again PLUS I would be telling the world about this TERRIBLE experience. The manager called me back and stated that she would NOT be selling me the weapon and wanted to mail me a check for my deposit(when the deposit was taken from my credit card)......WASTE OF TIME Before calling GAT Guns,Inc I was going to order my weapon from Texas that's why I asked for final pricing to make a sound decision. As of to date I had to buy my weapon from Texas, BUT I save $50 and the BEST thing is GAT Guns,Inc DID NOT get my money. I hope they go out of business and we as gun owners can help make it happen. What can I say this place ROCKS!!!!!! I read some of the reviews and just don't get it? I first went to Gat Gun's for CCW back in January of this year and that's all it took to become a loyal customer. Let me break it down for you. The store is amazing it's extremely clean (including the restroom's) and well organized not to mention they have a super huge selection of firearms (pistols/rifles/optics/knives etc.) The ranges are bright and well vented and you can count on someone to be cleaning the spent brass up out of you way. When I check-in at the range counter I'm almost always greeted by Jaylyn with a huge smile and a super helpful attitude.(every time) Everyone at the range counter will help you with anything you might need from ammo to rentals. I would like to give a special thank you Colton for hooking me up with a bulk ammo deal Thanks!! Don't answer yet there's more** When you go upstairs you will enter one of the largest gun showrooms I have seen. (You'll think it's a gun show.) Everyone that works at the gun counter is friendly and knowledgeable. Glenn, Dan and Randy will answer any questions you may have without any attitude and smile. They will guide you through the paperwork and walk you to the check out where you will meet Julie or Kim (if your lucky) you'll know who she is just look for the girls with a huge smile on her face. Purchased a gun here, and also traded a rifle in. Most unprofessional, unbelievable experience I've had with a gun shop. DO NOT DO BUSINESS HERE..incompetent employees, company policy to steal from customers. I live an hour away, so when a few weeks had gone by without hearing from them on my purchase status I called before going in. "Ohhh yeah!! Absolutely your gun is here amd ready for pick up come on in." When I arrive the man I spoke with (not sure his name it was weird because it was a typically female name) says to me..boy I wish you would have called first..your background check expired. Well I drove two hours round-trip based on incompetent lazy employees who clearly didn't bother to check..so forget it give me my $100 deposit back and I'm done..not driving another two hours again on the chance that I run into someone competent. Ohhh no..you can't have that back. We're keeping that of you don't buy the gun. Liars, Crooks and lazy incompetent cheats. Stay far away! This is the place to go if you're a gun lover. I help my first rifle as a Freshman in High School when I joined the ROTC program at Lane Tech. They had a gun range in the basement and every cadet had to learn how to handle and shoot a rifle as part of their curriculum. If you where really good, you had the opportunity to try out for a medal. I was one of those kids that was naturally good with guns and I followed direction really well so my instructor allowed me to join the elite group of cadets that had extra time on the range. Not only did I get to use the M-14s that were the norm, he even allowed me to use his custom-made rifle. Being at GAT Guns brings back memories and this time, I can share them with my son. He enjoys the challenge of target shooting and is very careful about handling guns. He participated in the ROTC program as well. When it comes to guns, you have to be extra careful. The personnel at GAT is incredible. They make sure you know what you're doing and, if you start goofing off, they get you off the range before you hurt someone. If guns or rifles are your thing, try out the range. I have fun just watching. read more

I have been a novice gun collector now for a few years. GAT's Gun compared to Maxon Shooters Supplies in Des Plaines is like Heaven compared to Hell. The first big difference is the staff, Maxon's are rude and obnoxious compared to the very polite and knowledgeable staff at GAT's. I dealt with a young man called Randy, whom I found out later was the manager, he sold me and my friend over $10,000 dollars in guns, ammo, and a gun safe. I do it all over again if I knew I could get Randy. The majority of the staff is friendly. A few old timers could use a little of Randy's finesse. I felt extremely comfortable even buying used guns, knowing that the price of the gun smith to clean and inspect was a great buy of $25.00. I would feel like I died and went to heaven if the range would allow rifles and shotguns. I did meet the owners son Greg Jr. also a very polite man for being tied in with the ownership of the family business. Yesterday I went to Cabela's and decided to check out GAT guns on the way. I hadn't been there since many years ago when the lower level was all fishing stuff. I am an On Target in Crystal Lake convert and it is the finest range anywhere in northern Illinois, but I wanted to check out GAT's huge inventory of guns and perhaps see if they had any ammo deals. I found the staff to be unfriendly and when I did buy some ammo bargains the checkout guy was inattentive and borderline rude. I even got the idea that maybe he had something against Latinos as he seemed to be more interested in helping out and chatting with the blue collar looking white guy in the NRA hat that was next in line. I can see why so many people are shooting elsewhere. To be fair, I haven't been on their ranges since they remodeled and apparently expanded, but with OTCL just as close nearby I never will either. I did notice that they had the Utah/Florida CCW class, which OTCL doesn't offer, but I know I can take that at Cabela's too. This was definitely my last visit to GAT. read more

In todays environment finding a credible and friendly firearms store is very difficult. In Illinois I found Gats Guns as a retired school teacher and forever a boy scout target shooting was always a recreational past time for me. So when I retired of course I was going to go back to the things I did not have time for when I was working. With this I had to find a place that afforded me the training by professionals with experience. Gats has all this with a variety of shooting ranges that are designed for your safety. Finally and not least the staff at Gats like Glen, Julie, Kim, Jimmy, and even the owner always find the time with courtesy and professionalism to help you with all your firearm questions. They are all knowledgeable about firearms and safety this is their number one priority. So all I can say is get that foid card out of wallet and go to Gats, if you don't have one you can apply right there for a foid. Service is always friendly and helpful. Fair prices, it's always a pleasure supporting this local Gun Shop. Just purchased another firearm from GAT, and received a great price for one of my used firearms. Thank you! COVID safety measures are applauded! They are doing a good job spacing the sales and checkout lines, all employees and customers are doing there patriotic duty and wearing masks. This is appreciated, since many of the other local gun shops tend to not follow ANY of these simple rules that protect customers, employees, AMERICANS. When you loose a friend to Covid... It's an eye opener... I will never purchase from any of the other local Gun Shops for this fact alone. One recommendation... offer a "take a number" system for sales. Let me shop around while I wait to purchase my next firearm. I've seen some less than stellar reviews for this place, so it has inspired me to chime in myself. I came to GAT looking for my first gun. With very little knowledge and I've only shot my boyfriends gun a few times. It was a pretty crowded night, my sales guy, (whom I can't recall his name, hot guy with a tattoo sleeve on one arm, Erin or Eric, something like that) took the time to not only help me decide which gun I felt most comfortable with, but also helped me with my grip and some really helpful tips to get the slide back and forth. I went back and forth between a few models and at no time did he lose patients with me. I ended up with a Glock 19 and couldn't be happier! At the checkout desk I was rang out by super blonde lady who was also super friendly and helpful. Paid my $100 deposit and a few days later picked up my baby. When it comes time for my next gun purchase I know who I'm going to go talk too! read more

3/11/11 - I finished taking the Basic Firearm Instruction class with instructor Gerald Kau. This two hour course improved my ability to accurately shoot my handgun by 200%! I learned so much that will help me improve my skills, it's just amazing! Gerry was a great instructor. He is very knowledgeable, friendly and made this just an amazing class. He was hands on teaching me how to be a better shooter. I left tonight very confident in my abilities to continue my accuracy and my confidence was boosted tenfold. For a girl, I walked into the range as an average shooter, but I walked out able group the hits bullseye on the target. I was never able to get them all clustered that close before Gerry!! I have had the pleasure of doing business with Gat for years. My absolute favorite gun store and range everyone that works there is very polite, friendly, and knowledgeable of all of the guns. I drive an hour or more to get to this store and it is totally worth it! Eric, the salesman and one of the gunsmiths at Gat Guns is always super friendly and has done great work on my Glocks. Noel is another one of my favorites. Not to mention April at the register who is always friendly, helpful, and greets you with a smile. I am a loyal customer and will continue to patronize Gat Guns. I would recommend them to any and everyone that loves Guns as much as I do. My wife and I came in looking for a handgun for range and home defense. Having only shot 12 gauge as a kid years ago, it can be a little intimidating to walk in a gun shop but Jerry quickly came up and walked us through, step by step, what we should look for. He showed us multiple and spent nearly an hour helping my wife. We went with a Glock 19 and also signed up for his handgun lesson. We just did that today and it was great! He walked us through, in great detail, the A-Zs of everything from safety to breathing while shooting, etc. Couldn't have asked for a better way to start with a new gun. I found the range staff to be helpful and friendly, especially the guys in the rifle range. It would be hard to beat their selection on really anything relating to firearms, and other weapons. I thought the sales staff was equally friendly and helped me out in getting to the products I was interested in. In 2014 I put a deposit on a gun I wanted and was contacted as soon as it was available. At that point I was referred directly to the checkout and got help immediately. Same when I returned after the waiting period to pick up the gun. My dealings with them have been professional and efficient. read more

I like this place they have a lot to offer. Including a long indoor range for rifles. I do not like that when I bought my first gun here for almost $400 I was only offered $200 for it several months later as a trade. The guys at the counters upstairs all seemed passionate. I'm talking about the ones who show you the actual guns. The people at the payment counter have total attitudes and ego trips which are apparent on All Occasions not just one visit. You are only as strong as your weakest link, adjust the attitudes that the payment counter. Especially the blonde older lady. read more

Management is an absolute joke - Not a professional business at all; good luck finding a gun salesmen upstairs it seems like they have 1 person working the gun counter, have walked out of the store multiple times. the ranges are a even worse they have no brooms or anything in there to move the brass so the floors are constantly filled with brass. the pricing on most of their stuff is overpriced might be able to find a deal on certain things but i doubt it. usually i'm not the type of person to even leave reviews but just had to make an account to warn people. read more

Gat is large and has an extensive selection of firearms and supplies. That is all I can say good about them. Their staff has no clue about customer service and many have attitude problems. It is a negative experience. It stems down from the owner and management. I've been there many times over the past 20 years, but will never return. The fees for range time and gun rentals are ridiculous and the ranges are dirty and poorly ventilated. I highly recommend you drive up to Crystal Lake instead for an extremely clean and friendly range. read more
