This is my go to spot in the Boise area for all things outdoor. Their team of guys they have working in the fishing dept are the best around. Not only friendly but also super knowledgeable as well. Yes they know fishing but they are very localized as well and know the lakes and rivers around here. Their recommendations have always been on point and never disappoint. Store is well laid out with massive selection of whatever you can think of outdoors. Prices are usually very fair but the big draw for me is their Cabela's club membership. Love earning points and special deals for club customers. I would highly recommend this location for all that it brings to the Treasure Valley! read more

Nice old greeter that was helpful but we avoid the back of the store like the plague to avoid the Hilton vacation people who are like vultures that will even seek you outside of their "territory"to try to sign you up. Wow. Times have changed. Cabela's used to be the go-to for outdoor and hunting gear but the buyout from Bass Pro Shop has not helped in my opinion. The Boise Cabela's is now a hodgepodge of merch from Bass Pro and Cabela's and the store needs a refresh. When Cabela's was the only game in town, it dominated but with Dicks for some sporting goods, Sierra Trading Post for apparel in Village of Meridian, and Scheel's on Ten Mile Rd, Cabela's looks like it's in last place. Perhaps the weekends are better but it was shocking to see it nearly empty on a Friday afternoon. read more

Cabelas is the best! The atmosphere is amazing, the stock is great (when they have stock), even the creepy animals in the center of the store somehow add a weird magic to the store. Maybe magic isn't the right word, lol, but they add to the vibe. I wonder if they were actually killed or if they are fake. Ima go with..they're fake and just made for the stores lol Because of what's happening in this country and that started last year, we have seen prices SKYROCKET and stock go way down. When I was here, you could see the results of poor leadership that poured over to this store...along with basically any store we go into nowadays. Did it take away from how bad ass Cabelas is? Nah, not really. Sucked when I was looking for something and they didn't have it, but it's just a great store and I love going in there whenever I can. The staff is always super helpful, there are plenty of them too. So if you say "there was no help anywhere" You's a dayuuuum lie haha! Because they are posted up all over. Even with stock low, they still have staff to help in every corner of the store. Their prices, yes, increased, but if you hunt around in there, you can definitely find some great deals. I imagine it's a fun place to work. Awesome atmosphere, great people, always busy no matter what, I mean how could anyone not like working there? Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt it lol. Cabela's has some great displays! I love the recreated mountain replete with stuffed/mounted animals. The two large aquariums are also great -- the turtles are my favorite. It's especially nice that many of the animals and fish are identified. In addition, they stock a wide variety of quality clothing, gear, supplies, etc. What a great place to shop! read more

DONT BUY A GUN FROM CABELA'S / BASS PRO SHOPS!!!!!! I purchased a new $5,000 Rixzzini shotgun and when I got home, you could not put it together!!!! I called the gun section and the guy that sold it to me said, "this is not our problem." I drove two hours back to CABELA'S. They stationed a short little thug behind me as they tried to assemble the shotgun! (They said he was there in case there was "trouble.") Then they said that they don't stand behind ANY GUNS THEY SELL, "UNLESS THEY ARE MADE BY CABELA'S." THEY DON'T MAKE GUNS!!! They said that I had to send it back to Rizzini in Italy for repair!!! I dont even know where Rizzini is located as I bought the gun from CABELA'S!!! After an hour and a half, they finally agreed to ship the faulty gun back to Italy for repair!! Brand new, fine Italian Shotgun and they did not give a crap that it was faulty!! I will never buy anything from a CABELA'S ever again!!!!! That has been two weeks ago and I have not heard a word from them since!!!!! read more

Just tried returning some Cabelas branded boots that one of the soles was falling off. Asked if they had a lifetime warranty. They said 1-year for branded items. I'd had them 5-6 years. I said I understood but to please pass on to management the fact that Scheels has an unlimited lifetime warranty for all of their their branded items. Not a fan of Cabelas anyway with the way they push their credit card so vigorously and the gun counter guys are rude. I enjoy going to Cabela's often since I'm an outdoorsy gal, I took my 3 kids with me and while we were walking around the store a Santa came up to us and was very insistent on us going to take a photo with him. I was reluctant because my husband wasn't with me and I didn't wanna do something without him while I had the kids. The elf's were very kind and welcoming, they played their rolls and really did a good job of making the experience more enjoyable. My kids were very excited as the elf's asked him to read my kids a book. And to my surprise he said no since my kids had opened their candy canes and were "sticky". Came here today to check out starter bow and arrow sets for my youngest son, and also wanted to check out some hunting rifles. Two employees totally ignored me in the firearms department...like fully didn't even look at me or say hello or anything. I walked in front of one of them while looking at the handguns.....nothing.....like I wasn't even there. Went back a short time later and continued to look at the guns, and literally had one employee leave a customer after he was done, and walk to the opposite side of the counter without even so much as a 'hello', or 'I'll be with you shortly'. Then I went to the archery department, which was completely unstaffed. While I loitered at the counter an employee approached. I got excited to finally gets some assistance, and said hello to her. She smiled, said hello back, and disappeared into an employee only backroom. No 'do you need any help', no 'I can send someone over in a jiffy', no 'can I help you find something'......nothing. Then she came out of the backroom and walked out of the department without saying a word. I looked around at the bow and arrow sets, and some 9 year old kid asked if I was looking for a set for my older son (who was with me). I said 'no, I'm looking for a bow and arrow set for my 8 year old son'. This rando 9 year old directed me to a nice packaged archery set, which he had owned before and personally recommended. I thanked him and took a picture of the archery set for future reference. So at Cabelas tonight the only acknowledgement and customer service I received was from a 9 year old boy shopping with his family in the same department. And at the same time, I was totally invisible to all the other employees. So after this experience (which was not even close to my other Cabelas shopping experiences), and seeing some of the other recent shitty reviews, I concluded that shopping here was no longer in my best interest. There are too many smaller local shops (like Stockpile Defense and Idaho Guns and Outdoors) whose employees go out of their way to help you get what you need, and provide excellent customer service. read more

My first time here, walked through entire store, made eye contact with 3 employees, stopped and looked right at one, he was folding shirts, I didn't saying anything, he looked at me and just kept folding. The store had 5 people in because it is Easter. No excuse to not greet me , or to not smile or provide customer service. I went in to get a pump for my inner tube to float the river. I was trying to find it around the store until Giancarlo asked us if we needed help with anything. We went here tonight 12/20 at 7pm to see Santa. I would have gone to the village but they are booked till Christmas Eve. So I hoped for the best because my boys are 6 and 8. My 8 year old is on the fence about believing. I work so hard to keep the magic alive for him so when I saw this Santa I was so bummed. Just because you have a stringy thin long beard doesn't make you a believable Santa. This guy has the lowest energy... no Ho Ho Ho, no nothing. Wow, I thought it was going to be so much busier on Christmas Eve. It was not, and it was basically a walk in the park with two kids going to see Santa. A REALLY nice store with so much to pick from. I mean, this store has something for anyone. I did not interact with many staff but those I spoke to were very friendly. I was there on a Sunday and it was pretty busy but my wait to exit the store with my items was painless. My biggest issue with Cabela's is I normally spend more than I had planned. I have no restraint and if I can find a sale item I'm looking for, I normally purchase it. I keep telling myself that I'm accumulating air miles with each purchase, so it's a win/win! read more

I don't frequently have a reason to enter Cabela's (or any outdoorsy shop, for that matter). But, during the holidays, I found myself on the hunt for a lunchbox as a gift. Now, if you're going to give a lunchbox as a gift, it should probably be a pretty epic lunchbox. So, as I stood in another store checking out their variety of soft-sided insulated, rather plain lunch-boxes/bags, I was left uninspired. After doing a little internet searching, I found the lunchbox to end all lunch-boxes--big, metal, buckled front, top handled, with a clip in thermos? I'm pretty sure it's most indestructible, blue-collar beautiful, Stanley brand, wonder of a lunchbox ever made. I'm nearly 100% certain my electrician grandfather had the very same lunchbox. And, it can be found at Cabela's. So, reason #1 I'm a fan. Reason #2 is that I recently also had occasion to purchase everything an aspiring archer might need (long bow, target, quiver, arrows, arrow tips, glove, arm guard, tote bag). Cabela's came through for that task as well. Though, I will say that I'm glad I had my archery expert brother with me to help me find everything I needed as their service in the archery department was somewhat lacking. Reason #3? The aquarium full of local fish. It's pretty magical. Their prices are a little high, but their merchandise also seems to have the quality to warrant the prices. They may not be a store I'd frequent, but I was glad they were there when I needed them. Get to it! read more

??? What's the point of having 10 cash registers when they NEVER have more than one open, and everyone has to wait half an hour to buy their stuff? They have dozens of employees wandering around the store, while a giant line of customers wait to buy stuff from two cash registers. I bought their Cabela's Pro Dehydrator. It is slow, very slow. The switch went out and my family replaced it for me. It's out of warranty. It's 2 or 3 years old. Cost over 3 hundred bucks. I do not reccomend it. Too slow. Some things take a couple of days to dehydrate. I've started dicing produce very, very small. That helps. I tried to dehydrate fresh sage and after 2 full days it still wasn't dry. I threw it away. read more

This was my first visit to Cabela's. After hearing my husband go on and on about the super Cabela's in Utah, I was very excited to visit this new location in Boise. This place is H-U-G-E! I was lost for a couple of hours. It's a retail store/museum/outdoorsy store. The shoe section was a bit small in my opinion.... yes, I'm judging by the size of the shoe section.... but keep in mind, it is an outdoors man type store. No Jimmy Choos here, my friend. Towards the right hand rear of the store there is a 'general store' that carries fudge, candies and other yummy stuff. They even have an interior section with camo sheets, wallpaper, lamps to decorate your very own cabin. In the very center rear of the store, there is a rather large 'bargain room'. They had uggs marked down to almost nothing because of a tiny little stain... I'm talking so tiny, I had o put on my glasses. There are sections by hunting, fishing, automotive accessories, dog training, camping, clothing, archery... I'm sure I'm missing something, but I was truly fascinated by this store. I must' have had that 'I'm lost' expression on my face, because I had about 6 employees ask me if I needed help. People in Boise are so nice.... really... really nice. So.... five stars to you, Cabela's....I can't wait to visit you again. read more

Awesome store but their service and help is absolute crap. I don't know a ton about guns but went in there to purchase a hunting rifle for my girlfriend. Hunter helped me out and after talking for half an hour I ended up getting the recommended bolt action rifle. I didn't find out though until she unwrapped her present and we installed the bolt action that it was Left Handed. I understand it's on me to know this, but I told him I don't know lots about rifles and what it was used for. He had even asked me if it she was right handed. Horrible Service and now I'm stuck with a left handed gun. read more

I have been to several Cabelas and this is similar to others in appearance, service, and inventory. Though smaller than some they do have a good selection of products. Unfortunately after getting bought out by Bass Pro Shop some items along with the Cabelas brand is getting phased out. Another victim of a change in ownership/management is the elimination of the Bargin Cave which was often the reason to visit a store. I would stop at a store I'd pass on the road to see what they had and wind up making additional purchases while there. This was a poor decision to eliminate this in my opinion. Hopefully the 'new' Cabelas will continue honoring prior Cabelas warranty on items. read more

Like to camp? Like to kill stuff while you're campin'? Then Cabela's is the place for you. Whether you're snagging it by the lip, shooting it in the heart, or stabbing it square in the gizzard, Cabela's has just the lethal tool to kill whatever it is 100% dead. It's the one website where you'll get multiple hits on search terms like "meat saw". Plus they have all the lures, calls and traps necessary to beguile that wiley chipmunk or muskrat within range of your .303 Enfield. How to best describe it? Cabela's is like somebody took REI and threw a bunch of guns and knives and meat grinders in there (no really, they have meat grinders). Plus everything in the store is available in any color you want, as long as it's camouflage. I'm not a hunter, but I still occasionally buy stuff from Cabela's. Some of the items that I have purchased in the past are their excellent outerwear, a string of shotgun shell Christmas lights (made with real shotgun shell casings), and a Hunter Dan doll, which is like a large-format GI Joe who went AWOL to Idaho or something. Throw a hoodie and some sunglasses on him and you've got Unabomber Dan. But you should get one! They're awesome! And they come with a tent and shotguns and a compound bow - PLUS - Hunter Dan comes with the standard-issue survivalist's anarchy-tinged hollow gaze at no extra cost. If you can't get the flies you are looking for at a local shop or online, Cabela's will do in a pinch. But don't blame me if they don't have the Skwala stoneflies you are looking for on your trip to the Owyhee. This is a big box store for crying out loud. They aren't exactly locally oriented. Just enough though to get a fishing report and maybe a little advice. There are usually sale items that make it worthwhile to stop in. I got some light weight wading boots for $40 that were perfect for a sea kayaking fishing trip I went on in the oysterbeds and salt marshes of Florida. I didn't want to take my Idaho free stone river wading boots down there and I didn't want to spend $100 on salt gear that I was going to use once a year. read more

Cabela's is great. I should just stop there. I needed some cold weather gear that will keep my hands and face warm while still allowing me to shoot a pistol and rifle effectively. Jim came out of nowhere to help me find what I needed. Really, he literally snuck up on me. I was standing in the camouflage section though. That stuff really works. Jim dropped in on us and was a big help in setting me up with a base layer pants, shooting gloves, and a mask that I can breathe in without fogging up my glasses. Jim was a really big help. I'm a Cabela's club member, so I was able to use my points to get my stuff basically 50% off. Like most stores, you already know what they are about.
