Outstanding bike service! We traveled in from Oklahoma for the Boise Iron Man. On the drive up, our bike rack lost a pin and the bikes hit the pavement at over 75mph. We thought the race was out of the question, but we called McU Sports and gave them a heads up on our situation and scheduled a time to drop the bikes off when we arrived. Jimmy (Master Mechanic) took the bikes in and repaired them both in a matter of a couple of hours at a price that was more than reasonable. We're talking new tires, new rim, tubes, new shifter, handle repairs and a thorough inspection and testing of the bikes. He also took the time to fine tune both bikes. We're back in the race and happy as can be!!! We were in Boise for a couple days and we're really wanting bikes to explore the city and ride along the Greenbelt. We happen to see MCU sports while out for coffee and decided to look into bike rental options. I was shocked by how easy it was. The staff was super friendly and within 10 minutes the two of us were walking out with bikes and helmets for the day. The price was very reasonable, way cheaper than Lime bikes would have been. I don't ever leave reviews but felt the need after my poor experience.... I took my mountain bike in after a pretty gnarly crash. As a woman I'm used to being talked down to by guys in the shop, which is what happened here and the guy taking my bike in even tried to tell me that the damage I assessed was "wrong" when it was very clear the my brake/gear shift piece was broken off. Very very rude and made me feel like it was my fault for crashing. I paid $160 for new parts and service and they didn't even clean my bike. I used to work at a ski/bike shop and we would ALWAYS clean the bike, even just spray it off with a hose. The new part they put on was loose, luckily I have the very specific star key needed to tighten it... Just an overall janky job and super rude. The guy even told me to "try not to crash again" ???? Would recommend taking your bike elsewhere, especially if you're a woman and don't want to be talked down to. read more

Not too many of these types of stores seem to be left in Boise...unless I'm missing something here? Also, you'd think, Boise....a major outdoor city...would have tons and tons of outdoor stores. That's why McU is a great place! Not the only reason, but I'm happy they are here. Located downtown....which I love! I hate when amazing businesses bounce outta downtown and go to.....The Village...uggggggh. Don't get me wrong, I love the Village, but having businesses downtown is like....super important and stuff lol. Especially with all the new apartments, homes, etc popping up down there. Also, McU needs to stay because of it's close proximity to the north end....where I assume 80% of those people hike, bike etc all over the trails, lol. Ok so the store is 2 floors. Lower level is all brand new gear, clothes, everything an outdoors person needs. Be prepared to spend some of that $crilla tho because this place....is pricey. Is that a good thing? Hell no! Who likes to spend tons and tons of money? Well, I do, but I also love a great deal. You will find some amazing deals here despite their somewhat higher prices. Upstairs they have tons and tons of stuff marked down...so u know a bitch was up there for a hot minute looking through everything, hahaha! I always find something there...whether upstairs or down. The store is amazing. Privately owned business WHICH.....I LOVE! It's great to support all local businesses...especially with things like Amazon around. One thing I will say that....really grinds my gears (lol)....was, I went in for new hiking boots. There was a store here few years back, they had an amazing selection of hiking boots/gear. I love hiking. So boots don't last that long lol. That place closed. I mentioned to McU that I wish they had more mens hiking boots. Their selection was...abysmal. ok, really not that bad, I just wanted to use that word hahahaha! Their selection of mens boots tho was indeed...slim. I told they needed more and she said she would "let him know" I'm assuming the owner lol. I'd rather buy my new boots from them rather than REI (which is an ok place, buuuut...no! Story about them but not enough space here lol) or Amazon. So hopefully they get more. Either way, I will always go there as long as we have this fantastic outdoors store! Yall will love the staff and if u love the outdoors/working out like I do, you'll love this special place. You're guaranteed to find some great stuff in there! And you'll love their friendly staff. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I have never dealt with such a dishonest business /management. I don't ever review places, much less complain about service/anything. However, after loosing out on 300$ because of an owner's desire to take advantage of a situation, I am leaving a review to warn others. Take your business elsewhere. After visiting here and renting snowboards for a day trip, we had to buy out one of the rentals that never made it back down the mountain. Less than 2 weeks later, I received a call from Bogus Basin Resort that our board was found and they would hold onto the board for me. Relieved, I made arrangements with the owner Chuck to have the board picked up by one of his employees on a regular trip up to Bogus Basin. After refusing to refund the amount I paid for the board (due to some technicality) he offered to ship the board to me. I would have much rathered a refund, but decided this was my best option and agreed to pay the additional shipping. However, in the weeks following, according the Chuck, the board supposedly "never got picked up". But, after calling Bogus Basin, I received confirmation that the board was no longer there... Which I assume, because it was picked up already. I have called this shop numerous times, to figure out when this board would be "picked up"/shipped, but was told the board has yet to be picked up and I have never heard back from Chuck since. I had a feeling that getting this board back (or a refund at the very least) would be difficult, but the way this situation was handled is honestly quite embarrassing. As someone who has worked in customer service for almost a decade it is clear to see that Chuck and this company lack integrity and have no ethical standards when it comes to making quick money. He saw an opportunity to take advantage of a customer/situation he knew he had complete control of and took off running. Take your money elsewhere & Support an honest business that's more deserving. read more

We rented bikes for our family of 4 while visiting Boise. The employees were exceptional, both on the phone when I called to reserve the bikes in advance and the day-of. The rentals were affordable and high quality! We really enjoyed exploring the Greenbelt, which is just a short ride through downtown from their store. Thank you for taking good care of us! There is "great customer service", and then there is memorable customer experience. Kyle and McU delivered a life-changing experience. I took my Thule box in to see if they could repair the lock. Kyle took a look and figured out what was wrong. The cross-bar had broken and was jamming the lid/lock. Here is what he did: 1. he re-attached the crossbar, securing it perfectly 2. he noticed that the other side of the box was damaged, most likely as a result of the bar being loose 3. he took down my information, the model and date of purchase of the box (note: we had purchased it in California, not at McU Sports) 4. he contacted Thule and found out it was still under warranty 5. he coordinated with the Thule rep so that a new box was delivered within a few days I went back in, Kyle helped me swap out the boxes, and he wouldn't even charge me for the repair work he'd done. This is why I don't buy all my stuff from Amazon or Walmart or some other faceless mega-store. People like Kyle and all the great folks at McU's are: a. deeply knowledgable about the equipment they sell b. real people, with real personalities, and c. offer an experience that is worth a lot more than the few bucks you think you'd save by going to a mega-store I am so grateful for finding McU Sports; they have a customer for life in me. I will happily give them all of my sports/recreational gear business! P.S. I accidentally elbowed Kyle in the jaw as we were taking my old box out of my truck. I absolutely LOVE this bike shop. Not only were they accommodating when our family was visiting from out of state by providing us with bikes to rent and a bike trailer for our little one, they went above and beyond! We loved the bike trailer so much, we ordered one when we arrived home, not knowing it was curbside delivery only. Seeing as how we are over 1,000 miles away from their shop, the owner insisted he'd figure something out. I received a phone call 10 minutes later, stating they've express shipped my bike trailer, and we were beyond words. I bought my ski boots at McU sports (downtown) and had the best experience with the boot fitters. I have a wide foot and a high volume foot and have had a hard time finding ski boots that fit and that I can ski in for more than an hour or 2. I worked with the boot fitters for a few hours to try on different boots, adjust them, and fit them for my feet. I now have boots that I can ski all day in without being in pain. The boot fitters were completely patient and understanding and did all they could to make my experience good. My feet thank you!! read more

The staff was very helpful, and showed me all around the store, different options and mostly pretty high price points. I've stopped in twice now, first time for about an hour and a half getting fitted for boots, second time for 45 minutes looking for tips on other gear. I've still never bought a thing from them, but have received the best customer service and advice on what to look for at other stores/online each time. Every employee I came into contact with was really friendly and I never felt pressured to buy anything which is huge for me. My boyfriend and I rented bikes from McU Sports 3 days in a row. We received excellent service from the guys in the bike shop. The employees were so friendly and helpful. We are not from Boise and they gave us a map of the city with all of the bike trails listed. We had lots of questions on where to ride and they gave us advice on great places to bike to and even areas that would be nice to stop at to grab a bite to eat. The bikes were comfortable and affordable. Locks and helmets are included. Next time we are visiting Boise we will definitely return here for a bike rental. We rented two bikes here for a half day. They were city cruising bikes and we biked 20 miles on the Greenbelt with them. The bikes were great! They seemed almost brand new and rode really nicely. Wanted to charge me 75.00 dollars for the same binding mount that Greenwood's ( 25 feet away ) is charging 50.00 dollars for. When I pointed this out, the ski technician told me to hit the bricks. Ive used MCUs for ski services & have sent them business repeatedly over the last 10-15 years. This is terrible customer service!!!!!! I won't ever be back. Stopped in early on a Sunday morning before heading up the mountain to do some snowboarding. We came in to get my board waxed. Theres was a little bit of a line but gentleman there promptly buffed my board, as well as helped my partner put his stomp pad on his board for him (as a friendly favor). Ended up needing to rent boots and a board as well and they quickly got me sized and fitted with a board at a discounted price, just to be nice. It was a great first experience!! read more

I was made to feel ignorant by a staff member and found multiple of his comments offensive. Dishonest shop, cutting corners way too much to rip off their customers. Back in 2011, I bought $450 brand new Felt Cafe 1 cruiser. I got into an accident with warped rear wheel and bent fork. The handle bar was completely intact and undamaged. So I bring my damaged bike in for repair, I was asked to pay upfront for new fork and new rear wheel for $150, fine. Then I came back 2 weeks later to find that they have replaced my handle bar with a different used dirty handle bar. The allegedly 'new' fork looked like someone did a rough spray paint job with no gloss at all. There was no way it was a new part shipped from Felt factory. Rear wheel was just fine. When I asked about the handle bar, they said it was bent so they had to replace it (!!). They did put some garbage handle bar on my bike to siphon my intact handle bar for another bike. Trust me, I examined the handle bar meticulously after the accident and it was still perfect. When I asked them to give me my original handle bar back, they asked for another $80 or so to order a NEW one. When I was moving out of Idaho, I had to ask them to pack up the bike and ship it to CA over the phone. They asked for $150 shipping and handling, I thought it was fair given the dimension and the weight of the bike. I gave my credit card number, they ended up charging me $200. The guy Kyle seems like a good guy on the surface, but I think he's part of the scam. Overall, highly unethical, dishonest people. They deserve no customers. read more
