I absolutely loved this coffee shop. Not only do they have great coffees but they have food also. This is a a local spot which offers a very wide variety of options. It is a very comfortable atmosphere, with coffee happy hours and a vast variety of new options. If you are a coffee drinker, then this place is for you, regardless of the time. They also have smoothies too. The staff was wonderful and gave great recommendations on what to try. It's s very laid back, great vibe and to me, a beautiful spot. It can get crowded, but that's because it is the go to spot in the area. Forget chain coffee shops and just stop in to this one. You will not be disappointed!!! read more

Don't go out of your way. I arrived at noon, it wasn't crowded, about half the tables were filled. The staff was not friendly, the woman who took and filled my order was mildly pleasant, at best. The hot chocolate I ordered was overly sweet and relatively expensive, frankly, I've had better Ovaltine. I chose hot chocolate because the tea options were nothing special-flavored tea bags. I think they thought I was nuts when I asked what kind of syrup they used for flavored lattes but my Northern Lights was ahmayzing! Coconut and marshmallow btw. I loved going to this place when I was younger. My wife and I were in the area a couple weeks back. It's been years since I've gotten to come to the area but everything tasted exactly how I remembered it did. I was sad to see the shop that used to be in there is closed down but other than that this place is great! I highly recommend. I finally visited Cabin Creek after several years of driving by over visits to Alpena. My husband's family has lived in Alpena for roughly a century, so I am a huge advocate of small businesses in this town. I went in for some afternoon coffee on Black Friday and was pleasantly surprised to find the cafe to be full of people visiting and enjoying their food and beverages - the atmosphere was very warm, cozy, and friendly. I enjoyed the music that played on the sound system that gave it a lively feel. There was a line of about three people ahead of me, but the staff were quick to expedite the line and got to me quickly. I ordered a small coffee, and a medium 1/2 coffee 1/2 steamed milk red eye and the total was about $4.20 - not bad at all. I was too full of Thanksgiving leftovers to buy any food, but I perused the cute t-shits, sweatshirts, and handmade knit coffee jackets and will definitely pick some up next time I'm in town. Overall, I am happy that a coffee shop like Cabin Creek is doing well in Alpena, and it's going to be a regular stop for me during our visits up North. read more

A great example of a small town coffee shop that "gets it". They offer a great environment for everyone to enjoy a good cup of coffee. I stopped in there mid-morning for coffee and a bite to eat and saw people studying/surfing the net, chatting it up with old friends, and a group of young adults stopping in while out on a walk with kids in strollers. I had a BBQ Panini which was fairly good (good flavor, but the bread was fairly dry) and a GREAT ICED MOCA LATTE. The prices were very low compared to a chain such as Starbucks, but the quality of coffee was not compromised. It was a GREAT cup of coffee. This is one of those quality shops that you just don't see in big cities anymore. I sure hope they keep the franchises out of the area so small town shops like this can continue to exist and therefore keep all the money we spend on coffee out of the pockets of the big corporations. :-) P.S. Not a coffee drinker so I can't speak to the quality of the namesake product served here but I can attest that my colleagues appeared to enjoy their coffee. My review will be for the lunch I was served here. I ordered a Smokey BLT which was really a perfect name for their ooey-gooey smoked Gouda that bound itself lovingly to crunchy bacon and crisp cool lettuce and tomato shrouded in a tasty pretzel roll. The temperature, the texture, the taste is the epitome of warm comfort food served in the frozen tundra of Alpena, MI. I shared a fiesta feta spread with a friend and it was zesty and flavorful spread over warm pita bread. I could have made a meal of that alone. On a second trip I enjoyed a ham and cheese on the same pretzel bun. Also very good but not as spectacular as the Smoky BLT. I enjoyed this with a side of tummy pleasing and innards warming chicken and dumpling soup. The place itself is spacious, quiet, and bright. Counter service was friendly and attentative. The coffee and drinks are the best in Alpena. The baked goods are quite good as well. The ambience is a lot like the name implies. You feel like you're in a log cabin. It's comfortable but, personally, i prefer plush chairs and some kind of music. Some music at all. None here. Most importantly - and the main reason for the 2 star rating - is the staff behind the counter. The girls back there never say thank you, they don't smile (except when ignoring customers and talking to each other), they seem impatient, have every indication of being poorly trained in customer service, and detract from what would otherwise be a 4ish star experience. Foul! Just foul. Some of the WORST coffee I've ever had anywhere I've traveled. I actually threw my cup of coffee way as it had an odor and taste of old, burnt folger's. Nice ambiance, such a shame both the espresso and coffee drinks are so horrifically bad. read more

Salad crisp, soup hot and tasty and super large bowl, Flatbread cheese pizza per my 12 year old was not just cheese and sauce, it was cheese and sauce with something else delicious! I just visited Cabin Creek and ordered 2 sandwiches for take out. I then added 2 brownies to the order. When I returned to my hotel the brownies had not been included in my package. I called Cabin Creek and explained what happened- the gal that took my call immediately said she would bring the brownies to my hotel. Now that is what I call customer service! So impressed. We came on a Saturday around 1pm and they were very busy. I had been concerned that we would have a long wait, but, the amazing staff got through the line super quick. We ordered a BLT, chicken chipotle salad, alfredo pizza, and kids pizza along with our smoothie, Polar bear, and hot chocolate drinks. The food and drinks were out in record time and were fresh and tasty. The staff was friendly and polite. Just a great, solid place for good coffee and good food. Great wraps and Panini's. Haven't had a salad yet but they look really good too. Want to try a pizza as well. If you're looking for something like Fresh Palate, but want it a little faster, they do the same quality of food here with a cool cabin-y setting. I have been here twice and will probably return again tomorrow! The first time I ordered a vanilla chai latte and a turkey cucumber wrap - both delicious!! The latte was a bit on the sweet side, but still tasty. When I visited for the second time I got another latte - I don't remember what it was called but it had coconut and marshmallow flavor - and a slice of apple torte. SO GOOD. Nice little place. It has a good environment and nice staff. We didn't try any of their food but they had some great options plus homemade baked goods. I got a caramel latte and it was really good. Seemed a little over priced but honestly most cafes are comparable in price these days. I think my drink was $3.80 or so. Ok this review really covers two visits to what is my only local option for espresso. My first was horrible. Now don't get me wrong other than the actual mocha I ordered it was a great visit. Nice staff and the place looked clean. Unfortunately the coffee was undrinkable. I shop in Alpena a lot and I don't know how I missed this place. I don't drink coffee, but I heard that they serve Paninis and smoothies...so I took my 20 yr old daughter out to lunch there and the Paninis and smoothies were really good! We got the "make your own Paninis", you pick the meat , veggies, and dressing you want and they make it. The smoothies, to me, were more the consistency of a slushy...but very thick and very YUMMY!!! A small smoothie was big enough...I can't imagine finishing off a big one. The place is clean and the staff friendly. You can bring in your laptop and enjoy a coffee or meal...very nice place. read more

My 5 star review must be taken with a few grains of salt: 1. This seems to be the ONLY coffeehouse in Alpena, or within 30 miles of it. So in that context - five stars! Out of that context, I would give this place 3-4 stars. If this place were in Birmingham or Royal Oak or Ann Arbor or Ferndale, it would be busy morning, noon, & night, but from 5-6:30pm on a beautiful Saturday, it was nearly empty. Insane - this place is way better than that, but Alpena is the sort of town where the busiest spot is the Dairy Queen. 2. I don't drink coffee, I drink tea, so I have no idea how the coffee is. (I didn't have any of the sandwiches either.) I like to write in a coffee place, usually Starbucks or Caribou Coffee, so I went there twice in 2 days and had a tea latte and a pear tart the first time, an Irish tea (not latte) and a raspberry coconut bar the second time. The best thing there was BY FAR the pear tart. I wish it had been there the second day! Really good. The raspberry bar was pretty good. The tea latte was so-so - better than the tea lattes at Caribou (which are awful) but I like the tea lattes at Starbucks better (or even better at Urth Caffe, but they don't have Urth in Michigan). They didn't have any Earl Grey tea at all - boooo. read more
