Update 930 - john the owner called me back. Said he was loading and couldn't talk earlier. Told me he'd be there between 9 and 11. I explained that it was rude of him, but I want the gate done, so he is trying. I'll post the review on the work when it's done- fingers crossed Like other reviewers. I called him for an estimate to repair my broken gate. And he gave me a time and showed up several hours later then specified time. He looked at my gate gave me a price and I told him to go ahead with the repair. He said he wasn't available for two days to which I said that's fine. Called him the morning of the repair to confirm that he was coming, since I had taken off from work. I called him at 830, for a scheduled 9am appt. he said" I don't like to be called this early and u don't like to be rushed. If you are in such a rush, you an call someone else". I replied I just wanted to confirm you were coming, to which he said he's not, and rudely hung up. It's a shame, that he lost out on my business since we were planning on changing both our gate and garage door to a connected model in a few months. I hope he reads these reviews and understands that web someone is calling him to get their gate repaired it's because it's not working an they may not access to their garage. I think that's kind of a rush, don't you. read more

WOW. So unprofessional! I was told I would be given an hours notice before they showed up, since I am at work - and need to travel back home. The guy called and said he would be there in 20 minutes. I only got the words, "Hmmm, well I'm at work..." when he went off on me, saying "I drove my happy a## from Denton all the way here, and you said you would be there. I'm SO sick of this sh##! Find yourself someone else to do the work!" Oh, I certainly will. read more

Great guy and a wizard with these repairs. I've used him twice now and had a good experience both times. I did some damage to my garage door that I felt someone could fix with a bit of elbow grease and know-how but I was worried that a contractor would refuse to do that kind of work and would only try to upsell the installation of a brand new door and parts. Since I've used John before, I had high hopes that he could repair the damage without charging me for parts that I don't need. 20 mins later, it's all fixed and works smoother than it has in many years. No extra parts needed. John is affordable, trustworthy, and a super friendly guy. read more

Don't use Cabot's. They install cheap or too small springs that break within a couple of years, then don't honor the warranty. When I called Cabot's on warranty replacement, he dodged the questions. Also, I think that he purposefully left the date off the original installment. In the end, he got very irate, told me that he was not going to do my job, and then hung up. From looking at the other reviews, him getting irate and yelling is a common occurrence. So, for me, no warranty replacement. I turned to Suburban Doors and they did a great job for a reasonable price. read more

If I would have written this review a couple of years ago, I'd have given John at Cabot 5 stars. He was prompt, courteous and did a great job. Because of that, I called him today when my garage door broke, and it was like I was talking to a different person. He was curt and absolutely refused to give me an estimate of how long it would take him to get to me. I wasn't in a dire emergency, but I don't think it unreasonable to want to know if he thought it would be one hour or several. When I asked for more of a guesstimate, he told me I could call someone else and hung up on me. How unprofessional is that? Seems one other reviewer here had a similar experience. And now that I've talked to some of my neighbors looking for other recommendations, I'm finding some of them have had the same dealings with him. I definitely wouldn't give him my business again, and can't recommend him any less. read more

This place has gone down big time. The last 3 times I called them for repairs they never showed up. When I asked why they missed the appointment the guy yelled at me saying "look ma'am, I got busy alright!". I'm not sure what's happened but they're definitely not the business they used to be and they've declined significantly in their customer service. John recently repaired my automatic gate opener, and simply stated, he is a certified straight-shooting no-BS-talkin' badass. What he lacks in corporate "fluff" he more than makes up for in responsiveness, accountability, and a knowledge of his industry that is second nature. John is fabulous! He is extremely knowledgeable about gate openers, controllers, options, and he knows how everything works together. I had a super-slow Mighty Mule opener on my gate - worked sometimes, sometimes didn't (usually when it was really cold or rainy - OK, I'll get out of the car...) I asked John to install an Apollo opener because it is fast, but I wanted a gate controller that had a soft-start, soft-stop feature. He mixed and matched controllers and remotes to give me the perfect setup, all for about $1000 less than another bid. John always answers my call (anytime) and gives me good advice when I want to tweak my system. His warranty is legit too. He always comes when I have any issue, for instance, once my system had a blown fuse - he came and changed it - no charge, and another time the gate controller needed to be reset, again which he did at no charge. A true entrepreneur with a head for customer service. Do not hesitate to call. read more

HORRIBLE experience! This company promotes 24/7 service. I called them at 7:45am requesting their service. John asked if he could call me back. After not hearing back for 35 minutes I called someone else. My car was stuck inside the garage so it was an urgent matter for me. When John called me back 45 minutes later I politely told him I had called someone else. He yelled at me asking what did I expect at 7:45 on a bleep Sunday morning! He then called me a bleep and said he hoped I got "raked over" by this other company and hung up on me! Awful Experience. read more

Had a good experience with John at the beginning. I Bought a elite gate opener from him which he installed. Came with warranty that he offered! Had an issue with it soon after which he came and fixed (replaced board) after a while gate started having issues. Which I notified john about. He came out and said it's fine. Next day it continues to have Same issue (not working). He then text me saying it's prob the arm or a short somewhere. He would come out when he gets a chance. It's been 4 months and he never shows up or returns call. I finally told him I was going to put negative reviews if he don't return my calls because I wanted to give him one more chance to redeem himself! About 10 minutes later I get a call John yelling at me saying I can do whatever the h^^^ I wanted to. He don't take threats lightly. By the way I understand I'm a hour away from his normal working area but he is the one who sold me a unit for $1000 cash knowing where I live. All I'm saying is "don't offer warranty or even service an area u won't return too because how far it is"!! All this just shows what kind of a business man John is!! We have an electric sliding fence gate that broke down continually. I called John and he was able to come out within two days. After the weekend, my gate was all fixed with a new motor that was the proper size to pull a wooden gate. I was able to look up the model online and know I wasn't overcharged. He always answered the phone and was very polite. Three months later, the gate hasn't broken down or had a single issue. read more

A competitor offered over the phone to do it for less than Cabot's estimate to replace the broken spring on our garage door. But when the overhead door competitor showed up, he said we needed to replace the rollers at $120, and it was unsafe to repair it unless we did so--then tried to upgrade us to a whole new door for " only a couple hundred more." John Cabot not only matched the competitor's price without replacing the rollers, he replaced the 16-foot bar across the door at no extra charge. My old, heavy garage door has never been so quiet. I'd trust John's advice, he knows what he's doing, and is reasonable in his pricing. read more

I called them late Saturday for a garage door that would only partially open. John told me how I could make a slight adjustment on my Garage Master opener, which fixed the problem. No service call needed, but I'm going to have him come over next week to do their $65 adjustment/tuneup. It's so rare these days for a service company to help like this, that I have to give them five stars. read more

We had our garage door stop working after work on a Monday. Luckily the previous owners of our home had chosen John Cabot and his company for previous support. A call to the number on the sticker got me straight through to Mr. Cabot himself and less than an hour later a technician was at my door. Yes, you read that right. One call got me the owner of the company and Tony showed up 35 minutes later. Tony was polite, respectful and focused. Want more proof that this is the right company for your garage repairs? After 30 minutes of work, at 8:30 at night, Tony realized that he didn't have the right part. NOT the end of the story though. After talking to the boss, Mr. Cabot himself drove to our house with the part and stayed and talked with us while the repair was being completed, despite having another job to do that night. This is customer service at its best. Oh, did I mention he managed to soothe our dog, who doesn't get along with ANYBODY when they come to fix something in the house? I called Cabot's with a group of 4 other garage/electric gate repair companies. One of these I called twice with no response, two had a service call fee of over $99 just to come to my house and diagnose the problem with my electric gate. John was great on the phone, answered some questions and offered to come by and look without any fee to me. I needed a tight window for my appointment which he was happy to accommodate and offered to call when he was on his way since I would be coming from my office and was worried about timing. He called ten minutes before he arrived, arrived early in the agreed upon window and went straight to work. Within minutes (and I mean like one or two minutes) he had figured out the problem and fixed the gate. Obviously it was not a major issue, but I had tried for hours to figure it out with no success. He educated me on the overall working of the gate, pointed out some things to keep and eye on and told me especially watch my battery life as the battery was bulging and may start to run slow. When I offered that perhaps he should replace while he was here, he said it was running great - no point in replacing now, but if it starts to run slow call him and he'll come out with a new one. He even hammered back a board on my fence that had become dislodged due to the gate hitting it before it stopped functioning. So I was impressed, but when I I asked how much I owed him for all of this advice and assistance he refused any payment - it was an easy fix and he was happy to help. It is so rare in this day to find someone who wants to help people out is fair, and not just out to make a buck. I would strongly recommend John to anyone who needs garage or gate repair and will be calling him when I need that new battery. read more
