I called Carlos on a Sunday between Christmas and New Year's because a storm left a tree with a branch hanging off and I was worried it would fall onto a shed and damage the roof. Carlos came over, within half an hour of my call, and when he realized he could climb on a neighbor's roof and bring down the branch safely, he did it on the spot, solving the problem. This review is overdue, since it is for a job that Carlos made in March 2023. (soon after, I had to travel overseas and returned to San Francisco only recently). I needed a large avocado tree removed from the back yard of a duplex in San Francisco. Tight space, access only through a garage and a family room. Got several estimates with prices ranging from just over $ 2000 to $ 6,000 (!!!) (somebody actually quoted by phone a very competitive price but when he came to see the location, the estimate doubled...). Carlos was among the least expensive, and sounded very professional. Not only he did a very good and fast job, but his (and his crew) attention to avoiding any damage to the living area the branches and stomp had to go through was remarkable. Carlos responded the day we contacted him for my 10 overgrown trees that needed severe pruning back. He was attentive to our needs and what we invisioned, then made suggestions and recommended better solutions, which we greatly appreciated (he truly is a tree specialist!). His total cost included cleanup and debri disposal and was very very reasonable. The entire job was done in less than 7 hours and we were very very very pleased, so we added a nice tip to his cost! He is our periodic arborist now for a quarterly review for tree maintenance. I highly recommend Carlos and his team at Cabrera Tree Care. I had a large blackwood acacia that had gotten too large for my small SF garden. The crazy winds of this past winter ('22-'23) terrified my neighbors as my wee garden is surrounded on all sides by houses, including next door and their glass solarium. Were this tree to topple, it had nowhere to go without damaging one or more houses. When the storms subsided, I started looking for a tree-removal company and checked out a few that were recommended by neighbors and on social media. Many of the companies wouldn't even come and look because the tree was so tall. I contacted Carlos, he called me back and came out right away, showed up when he said he would show up, and gave me a competitive estimate. I did a bit more due diligence over the next week, decided to hire him and scheduled him to take out the tree and stump. On the day of removal, he and his team showed up when they said they would, worked all day taking the tree out, made me some beautiful rounds to dry and make my kid a table (at my request), and came back another day to take care of the stump and roots. Carlos is himself the climber and he and his team on the ground were so professional, comfortable and reassuring in the face of chainsaw, ropes, pulleys. I think it's worth noting that the other workers and Carlos himself all seemed happy to be working, and to be working together. This was important because it says so much about an outfit that folks are treated respectfully and well, and this whole thing was pretty traumatic for me since I loved that tree; Carlos and the other workers made doing the responsible thing go as smoothly as possible. Then they came a couple days later (owing to my schedule, not his) and ground out the stump. They had to take my tradesperson's alley door off its hinges and lift that heavy stump grinder up into the garden to make eliminating the stump possible. Both days they kept the sidewalk so clean it impressed the neighbors such that they went out of their way to compliment Carlos' work. I can't recommend Carlos and his team enough. read more

We have used Carlos for years, but our last tree work was poor and very expensive. I am only giving one star since his workers are good and effectively removed a stump and the branches that had grown up around it. We are elderly and were not able to get down to the yard to see two trees he agreed to shape were untouched. I left a message complaining about this but, a week later, there is no response. Another tree was not brought back as far as agreed. If you want shaping, pruning, made lovely, look for someone else. If you want a tree removed and can supervise the work Cabrera might be OK for you. He will come readily to give you an estimate and the workers come on time.
