Great service! David was very responsive from our first conversation through completion of the tree trimming. I got two other, more expensive estimates, prior to Hummingbird's. Based on a neighbor's previous experience with, and recommendation, I chose Hummingbird to do the work. We had three smallish trees removed and three larger trees pruned to get more ambient light, restore some views, and stop dumping needles onto our roof. In a crisis you need to rely on the right person and Dave is that guy! We have a preschool (Happy Hall School) in San Bruno, founded in 1951 and there are a number of mature trees that are on the property. A few weeks ago our teachers arrived at the school after a storm, to their dismay our largest tree had snapped in half. There would be no way the kids could play on the playground unless we cleared this tree, anyone who has children knows that keeping a whole class of four year olds indoors for hours is not treat. I contact Dave and left him a message, he called back a few minutes later, he said he would pull some guys off a job in San Francisco and come down immediately. Within an hour Dave and his guys were there to the rescue, he is a really compassionate guy and it's obvious his crew likes working with him. When you need the tree trimming done right, this is the service to call. We bought a house for the view, but it was partially obscured by overgrown wild trees. On the initial estimate appointment, Dave noticed many live branches spreading on the ground -- a fire hazard. He gave us a fair quote, not only for the trim above, but also included the branches below for our safety. The crew showed up on time (early, actually), worked efficiently and checked with me several times to make certain the job was going to our satisfaction. Great communication and work ethic. These guys came with a very strong recommendation from a neighbor and exceeded expectations. Dave came on a Saturday, gave a very reasonable estimate for a bunch of work, including removing a very large (24" diam) branch hanging dangerously over the driveway and power line. Returned the following Wednesday (on time!) with 2 pick-ups, a box truck towing a chipper and six guys. They were all great, working quickly, efficiently and safely (!) but the two climbers were really outstanding! They were done and gone by 2:30, leaving the yard and sidewalk clean and our trees looking better than I've ever seen them. read more

I just had an excellent experience with Dave of Hummingbird Tree Service. I saw a huge, threatening crack in my backyard ficus after Sunday's storm and was afraid that an enormous branch was going to fall on my neighbor's house. I called 7 arborists - some who didn't even respond - and Dave was the first to call me back; (it was Monday morning of the huge storm). He said he could come over in about 3-4 hours. To my relief, he showed up earlier than that. He said he could do the work first thing the next morning. His price was shockingly fair. I was certain I would get gouged under the circumstances. Because it was so reasonable, I told him to top the entire ficus and prune two other trees at the same time, and still the add-ons were very reasonable. There was no drama about parking his truck and the chipper which most people will want to get permits for. The next morning, Dave and a crew of 6 showed up on time and carefully removed the very rotten branch, though I did have to lose about 40% of the tree (better than 100%!) The crew worked very efficiently, swiftly, carefully and cleaned up in front and back perfectly. There was no yelling or crazy blaring music. I had no complaints from adjoining neighbors about debris on their side of the fences. I had no collateral damage to the plants in my garden. Dave was a really nice guy; thoughtful, professional and very easy to communicate with. I was thoroughly impressed and would highly recommend using his company. read more

Then when they delivered the mulch their guy helped me sort out some pure wood and move it from my drive way - very courteous - beyond the call service. He will not return texts for days, will string you along about showing up for an estimate, and then, after you take the day off work and clear the street in front of your house for his equipment, he will cancel on you the morning he's scheduled to do the work. On the scheduled day, Dave couldn't come himself due to a family emergency. He called me early to let me know and apologized for the changes. The two guys who trimmed the tree did an outstanding job. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY! They lie about being licensed/bonded. We hired them with the impression that they were licensed/bonded Every single time they were asked to prove that they were licensed/bonded (as they still claim), they used evasive answers (verbally and in writing) and totally ignored the questions. So, I went to the International Society of Arbor culture's (ISA) website and typed in their information. Guess what? No record of them! I then emailed the ISA to check again, and they said that there is no company/person with this company's name and owners name that has credentials. Yes, they may do good work. With a shake of the hand the deal was made and everything went as planned, except they had finished a day early. This was not a small job at all! I had a 70 foot Cypress pruned and several huge branches removed at my residence. Dave has done several jobs in the neighborhood. One good thing is that he is reliable. He arrives when he schedules ! Can't say that about other services...some just don't call back ... His crew was excellent. It was a tricky job close to the street and two houses. No problems. They have the equipment to control limb drops and shred limbs. His climber did excellent work and cleaned the entire tree. I was amazed with all the work that was performed for the negotiated flat fee. I did not expect so much at all. The climber gets into the mode and does great work. Very detailed. I ended up having him remove a separate pine tree and cut limbs from another Cypress. They are considerate and conscientious about their tree work. Tree work is fraught with variables that can go sour. Nothing is perfect but they do their best to do it right. I am very satisfied and he prices very reasonably.
