INSURANCE FRAUD!!! I'VE BE CANCELLED BY CABRILLO FAMILY DENTAL??!! I was a patient of this practice for several years. Despite them going out of network with all insurance companies, I continued because I liked the my dental hygienist. Dr. Henspetter, however, never actually performed any dental work on me because none was needed. Only exams. In January 2024 I had pain in a tooth and brought this up with Dr. Henspetter. Right away he said that I might have a crack in the tooth and it might need to be pulled. I was in shock and fear. He referred to an out of network root canal specialist, who was wonderful but costly. No crack but ended up needing a root canal which ended being over 2k. I returned to Dr. Henspetter for a permanent filling and crown in February 2024. Prior to scheduling the appointment I asked the front office if I could have the permanent filling done without placing a crown and was told this was not possible. I was hesitant but when ahead a scheduled. At my appointment I was nervous as this was my first root canal and I was not enthusiastic about the idea of having a crown placed at the time and could I just have a permanent filling placed. When I expressed my concerns Dr. Henspetter explained that I could go without a crown but that the likelihood of cracking the tooth was high and that the best option would be placing a crown. I told him I was not feeling still comfortable at that time having the cows an he visibly became upset. His tone and demeanor changed. At that point I didn't that it wise for me to allow him to do any work on me at that point because of his behavior. So I said I want to hold off for the time being. I could tell he was not pleased but I felt it was the right decision. The following month, March 2024, I found another dentist who was in network to do a permanent filling on the tooth. I gave them my insurance information and scheduled an appointment. The receptionist called me back to say that she contacted the insurance company and they said I already had a crown placed on that tooth. I told the receptionist what happened and Castillo family dental and that I had NOT in fact had any work done on that tooth. I called the insurance company and was told the Cabrillo Family dental had been paid for work billed the DAY BEFORE my actual appointment. I called Cabrillo Family Dental and asked if they had billed my insurance for work that I never received. I was told yes but that it was an error and they would straighten it out with the insurance company. After this I continued my dental care at another practice. Fast forward to February 2026, I made an appointment to have a cleaning with the hygienist because as stated earlier she was excellent. My appointment was for Tuesday February 17th. I received a called to confirm the Friday before, and I confirmed. Then I received another call asking me to come in at 9am instead of 11am. On my way to the appointment. 30 minutes prior to my appointment time, I received a call from the office. The woman's said in an unpleasant tone, "I'm calling about your appointment, we need to cancel." I replied, I'm already on my way. She said, "I'm sorry but we need to cancel. We can call you back later to reschedule." I thought this was unusual to have a dental appointment canceled 30 minutes before a confirmed appointment, not to mention the woman's tone. So I asked, may I know why the appointment needs to be canceled. She said "hold on" and placed me on hold. A completely different woman picks up and says "it shows here in our system that you refused service back in February 2024. And because of this you have been released for our practice l. The doctor not be able to treat you. You should have received a letter about this. Clearly I had not received any letter l, otherwise I would not have waisted my time contacting Cabrillo Family dental to schedule an appointment. I told the woman, at the time I was not ready to have the work done- which is my right. It was nothing personal agains Dr. Henspetter or the practice. I was confused how me choosing to defer dental work could get me cancelled from a dental practice. I went on to ask, considering l, how was I able to schedule and double confirm the appointment in the first place. She responded, " I don't know, you should have been removed for our system 2!years ago. Again very shocked and confused by the whole situation, asked if she would speak to the doctor. She said she would and would call me back. Instead, I received a text message. [see photo] UNPROFESSIONAL!! From the doctor who was so offended by a patient respectfully telling him "no" to a procedure to the woman who said "we'll call you later to reschedule." Knowing that I was no longer a patient at this practice. I've never had anything close to this type of experience dealing with any practice. I've been going to CFD for 5 years since my longtime dentist retired. My hygienist, Leslie, is by far the absolute best I've had. She's kind, thorough & gentle. Her suggestions are helpful & she is encouraging. Today I had my first major procedure with Dr. Henspetter. I was very nervous as I had not had anything this major, (cavity under a crown) in many years. He immediately put me at ease, talked to me through the whole process, explaining what he was doing. He was friendly, encouraging & I did not experience any pain. My anxiety pretty quickly went away. My whole family, including young grandchildren, now go to CFD. Everyone is kind, professional & friendly, from the front desk, to the assistant to dentists. I highly recommend this practice! read more

My wife drove an hour to my appointment with you, only to be insulted and told, "Your case is very complicated, and with you being what you are I cannot treat you." You even made a derogatory comment about our service dogs, who were impeccably well-mannered and complimented by your staff. Your demeanor and callous words were hurtful, but more to the point, you lacked the professionalism of a licensed dentist, resembling a common bigot, unfit to treat a woman of my years and distinction for the progress my wife and I have made over the past three decades toward human rights. Sadly, there is still much work to be done. It is not enough to be skilled in one's endeavor, but to translate that ability and gift to others in a way that is loving and kind. You are a young man. Where do I start? Let me start with how I feel about going to the dentist.... I hate it. I hate everything about it. The scraping, the drilling.... The odd taste of your tooth getting sanded down... yeuch!!! Having said that, Cabrillo dental Dentists and staff are truly amazing. The staff are always professional. Dr Jen Kin is great! He's thorough, he explains what he's doing and how we'll execute your plan. He's honest and won't do more than you need unless you're really dead set on something. I am shocked but not surprised by these reviews, that re-affirm the ageist & discriminatory treatment is how this "Family" dentistry treats people. I think a class action discrimination lawsuit is definitely on the horizon, if they don't address these issues, & a proper office manager, which is in part, I think, why nobody calls back to book appointments. If you have been unfairly treated, PLEASE MESSAGE ME. The day I went in they approved treatment. Then 3 weeks of crickets..... They advertise implants, but actually won't DO THEM, based on age. Despite the fact that I have excellent peridontal health & adequate bone for the implant, they never called me back--3 weeks! I left messages--nothing. Then when I got frustrated, they said the same thing: We can't treat you. Luckily, I am now getting EXCELLENT TREATMENT AT A FAIR PRICE!!!!! After months of attempting to coordinate care about getting a dental implant I've finally given up. After renting a car and calling off work multiple times with the expectations of coming in to have the operation. First time I came in for the consultation and was told the operation was about $3,400 and to fill out the information with Sunbit(their financing agency) so I did. I came in for my second appointment with the expectation and understanding that I was going to have my operation, me and my partner took off work and rented a car to take care of me afterwards. We arrive to learn that my sunbit which I thought I had paid and I was charged then charged back for the deposit. I also learned that in my previous visit that I didn't get a mold done that was supposed to get done. Due to the lack of communication from the provider my and my partner's time and resources wasted. Got the mold done and asked for more clarification about the payment information. Which no one could give me a consistent answer and kept putting it off. I called 4 times between that appointment and my newly scheduled appointment for the day is now my supposed operation to ask for clarification on setting up my payment information and to know how much I need to plan for and anticipate to pay the day of operation. I am a graduate student and working professional. Financial planning is essential part of life and I feel asking for more information on making a financial decision is not asking for too much. If my down payment was going to be $1,100 I needed to make sure I have that money planned and accounted for. I had to call again the morning of the operation asking for information about expectations and how I should prepared for this operation and if I should/could eat. It wasn't until this moment I learned I was going to be put on a local anesthetic and not a general which was the previous perceived expectation. I arrived still concerned about sorting out the financing options and was told 2 hours before the operation that I was good for the financing through Sunbit for the amount of the operation. They then told me all the information I previously received about financing including the information given 2 hours prior completely changed and was pushed to make a impulse last minute decision at the counter to drop some money with Sunbit then give them some money to hold. I was felt pressured to make an on the spot impulse financial decision day of the operation without enough informed consent for the operation. After months of poor communication about expectations I will not work with these people again because I have been made extremely uncomfortable about business and medical practices and I would advise others to not either. read more

It's unfortunate that I have to write this review as I had been with Cabrillo Family for over 20+ years (since the beloved Dr. Kirkham days). I had continued going to Cabrillo even after Dr. Kirkham retired and even after moving out of Pacifica. Was it convenient for me to continue going to Cabrillo? Absolutely not. It was completely out of the way and I had so many other options that were closer with the latest and greatest equipment and state-of-the-art facilities. So why had I stayed so long? The service. I had always been treated well and so had my family. Up until the pandemic, then I noticed some changes. Specifically with Dr. Henspetter. Several of the hygienist would complain about the lack of supplies (masks, gloves, p.p.e., etc) and other equipment around the office. Having known Dr. Henspetter for many years I felt comfortable enough to question why he didn't supply his office with the appropriate amount of equipment or take better precautions during the pandemic and is response should have been why I stopped going to that office right there and then. Dr. Henspetter said, "Eh...people need to stop being afraid. It's nothing more than a cold." I was disappointed with his comments, one since he works in a field in which he needs to protect his patients AND those he works with but also because he works in an office that I entrusted for so many years. Again, I should have cut ties then, but I didn't. I waited; the final nail in the coffin came when I received a call from the receptionist reminding me of my appointment (and kids) the following day...oh and that I needed to call them because there was changes to my insurance. This was the DAY BEFORE our appointments! When I called, all the blame was put on Delta and their procedures. I asked when the decision was made to opt out of the network and I was told December and that the change took effect in January. My appointment was in JUNE! I asked why I wasn't contacted before, either by email or mail at minimum and the receptionist said, "We just don't do that. We would have had to do that for everyone." Really? That was the response. That is the expectation...you SHOULD do that for your patients as a courtesy. Needless to say I canceled my appointment and started my search for a new dentist office. One that appreciates their clients and is professional. I have since found one and have also found some discrepancies that we were being over charged for by Dr. Henspetter and Cabrillo Dental. I never would have thought they were ripping me off after all those years I had been so loyal. I guess that was my own naive fault. If you're still going to Cabrillo Dental you don't have to take my word for it. Ask around. The next time Dr. Henspetter or any other doctor recommends a deep cleaning or procedure at their practice, check other offices and see what they are charging with respects to your insurance. You'll be surprised with the ride Cabrillo Dental is taking you for. read more

I have always been scared of dental work, scared of nerv pain, scared of grinding sounds. However, Dr. Christopher Jen Kin cured my dental trauma. I had one time pulling out a tooth--bone craft--implant all together. I prepared myself for a long painful surgery, but before I started to scare, all the work was done, no pain and so quick. I didn't have pain for the second day and afterwards. Bravo !!! for complicated treatment, Dr. Jen Kin provided thorough explanations and multiple options, considering individual medical needs, appearance needs, and financial need. so that I understand what I need and make my best choice. I also had my tooth filling done with him. My cousin goes to him for dental work. my husband goes to him for dental work. I want to recommend him to all my friends. Dr. Jen Kin is a great dentist. Let me start by saying I really like doctor Jen Kin. He is kind and very warm with clients. The receptionists, on the other hand, leave you feeling like you are second class citizen. I am surprised by the reviews stating all employees are kind and friendly!?! Every time I get call or call them to schedule I am left wondering why I'm still coming to this place. My last visit to this office was a huge disappointment!!! After 2 year pause in dental care due to COVID i finally returned to see Dr. Henspetter for checkup and cleaning. Here's how it went. 1) Front desk informs me that they made changes to payment protocol and now I need to pay upfront and later Delta will reimburse me after the office submits a claim to insurance. I did pay out of pocket. Several months went by and NO reimbursement from Delta.I read other reviews saying that the office stopped accepting Delta entirely. 2) Dr. Henspetter never looked in my mouth while I was there for check up. Yes, assistant took x-rays, then doctor came and said "Everything looks great". I was excited, in a rush to get kids from school and didn't realized till I got home that exam never took place. About two days later I realize that an irregularity in my tooth was a chipped tooth, and more broke off. That broken tooth was already there when I was in the office and now needs root canal. Who knows what else doctor neglected to find! I need new dentist. 3) Before I even opened my mouth for the cleaning, the hygienist informed me that due to long pause in cleaning now patients require 2 sessions of cleaning and they also charge for both cleanings. I was told this past week that my Delta Dental insurance is NO longer being accepted by Cabrillo Family Dental office. Brooke, the receptionist, clarified all my dental work had to be paid cash up front before any dental treatment. I have an incomplete dental implant treatment from Dr. Jenkin which is $1,800 remaining. Brooke was unprofessional and got irritated over the phone as we discussed the insurance. She processed to argue with me and canceled my teeth cleaning in 2 wks without asking me. Brooke told me to go find another Dentist that takes Delta Dental insurance. This is not the service that any patient deserves with this kind of attitude over the phone. read more

They DO NOT take in network insurance anymore!! You will be required to pay out of pocket for the entire cost of your visit but they WILL NOT tell you the price of your visit until after your visit is over and then your insurance might reimburse a small portion. Do yourself a favor and ASK HOW MUCH your visit is before your appointment. A simple cleaning will cost you around $215 and your insurance might reimburse you $70-$90. For a family of 4 you're our of pocket cost is about $1000 per year just for the cleanings. They are very sneaky about this new policy even if you've been going there for many years. Dr. Jen Kin is great but since the office doesn't accept any insurance anymore this office is out of the price range for a typical family in Pacifica. read more

I had a cap that had been placed by a different dentist six years ago that broke and they got me in for an Emergency visit. I just found out Cabrillo Family Dental is CASH ONLY. This is definitely catering to the rich. They don't accept any dental insurance companies as "In Network". All insurances like Delta Dental are now "Out Of Network", which means the patient needs to pay for all dental work/cleanings cash up front, then the they will have to deal with the insurance company themselves to get reimbursed. The patient now deals with billing, not Cabrillo Dental. I am actually upset about this because I love the hygienists and dentists at this office, but I will now be looking for a new dentist. :( read more

I decided to give Dr. Henspetter to work on my tooth after 2 Dentists and a Endodontic valuations, none of them give 100% positive result for the root canal I need cause my tooth was severe infected for 2 months. 2 of the doctors even suggest abstract the tooth because they think that root canal may not save it. After I consulted with Dr. Henspetter, he explain the situation I had and what may happen in case root canal doesn't help, but by his experience, he gave me more confidence to save the tooth before even try. he said he had work on the same cases as mine many times, they're all workout fine. I confidently took his advice to have the root canal done by him. this is a great experience from the start to end , every steps are very smooth and well planned including the doctor and all the staffs were involved, from the appointment, receptionist, valuations, root canal, temporary crown to the final crown, all without pain, fear, or uncomfortable.my tooth is saved and I'm happy to find Dr.Henspetter.he is very professional and casual and even make jokes during the procedure to reduce patient's attention and it works. all I can say is I'm glad that I found Dr.Henspetter. from now on, I am not afraid of what happened to my teeth, I know Dr. Henspetter can help. read more
