I have been visiting Cacciatore's since I was a little girl; tagging along with my father as he purchased everything he needed for his epic meatballs and tomato gravy. It has been many, many years, and I am thrilled that they're still there. Yes, the store layout has changed over the years, but the quality has remained the same. I do miss the giant barrels of olives that they used to have too! And now, I carry on the tradition of purchasing what I need, to make my epic meatballs and tomato gravy for my family. I recommend the stuffed pork chops, and if you like palomilla steaks, you can pick your cut of meat and they will slice and pound it out flat for you. Worth the drive from Valrico! read more

Cacciatore & Sons is a terrific little neighborhood Italian meat market and deli. In 1896, the Cacciatore family settled in Ybor City from Italy and opened a butcher shop that provided groceries and other household items. They catered to the immigrants that lived in the area which consisted mainly of Cubans, Italians, and Spaniards. Over the years the Cacciatore butcher shop has expanded but never lost sight of their neighborhood roots. This current location along Armenia Avenue in West Tampa caters to the Italian, Latin, and Cuban population which reside nearby. The meat market has an excellent selection of hand-cut steaks, chops, ground meats, home-made sausages, and poultry. Around the store you'll find freezers and coolers filled with pastas, sauces, and pre-made meals. I recommend coming here for lunch and sample a Cuban sandwich, deviled crab, BBQ ribs and or a plate of rice and beans with a choice of meat...delicious. I have been here so often...I've tried it all. Today I had a deviled crab and some ribs, and as always, outstanding! This place may not be something on your radar when wanting to eat or get some food for take out, but it definitely should be. One thing you'll notice is everybody in there knows somebody, it's kind of a place for locals where you'll feel welcomed. I can't believe I waited this long to try this place out. I didn't eat the ready-made food, I went in to try their butcher shop. I was NOT disappointed. Well I was disappointed in myself for shopping at chain grocery stores for my steaks and chicken for this long. I prepared some chicken breasts on the grill and I couldn't believe the difference. Mark and his family have been running this place since I was a little boy and it only seems to get better as I get older and have a chance to appreciate the Italian taste and culture. This is not the first time I visit this place plus I'm used to having many Italian spots back home up north.I don't know if I arrive at a wrong day,time or what but they are not consistent on having their shelves stocked fully with products I need to make Italian dishes.Today it was lack of FRESH ricotta cheese for lasagne so I returned everything back to the shelves and left.Other than this their other products seem well stocked,fresh and ready to purchase.I rather drive further to their other store near the airport,they have their act together! read more

I mean, even if everything else in this store sucked (which it doesn't), I would still give them 5 stars for literally, the best twice baked potato I've ever had in my life. This is a great meat market that also stashes some fresh produce, pasta, and sauce. Bacon wrapped filets come in at only $4.99 each, and the aforementioned twice baked potatoes only $2.99 each- so the prices are incredibly reasonable. Friendly staff- and there's even a deli w/ tables and chairs that you can order at the counter and eat in if you would like. Not sure if I can say this is the best butcher. I honestly don't even know if it's usda choice on some of the steaks. I ordered a chateaubriand filet for a Christmas dinner. It was the toughest piece of meat I ate. Although what seemed to be a decent price per pound. It was terrible. Never again sadly. I may be slow but after two years or pouting that Castellano & Pizzo Italian Market closed on Henderson, it dawned on me there might be other Italian markets to find homemade hot and spicy Italian sausage. and Voila! I discovered Cacciatore's. They have a tremendous selection of imported Italian delicacies, soups, pastas, condiments and Italian recipe ingredients. Many are reasonably priced, some are high, some are now available in traditional groceries. They have fresh Italian cookies, a separate deli for cured meats, a cold case of grated cheeses and a wonderful butchery. An 8 oz filet was $5. Italian sausage was $4.49/lb. They have premade dinners ready for the oven like stuffed peppers or stuffed mushroom caps or pounded/breaded chicken. I was there when Italian guests were conversing in Italian with the store employees. There are also Latino and crossover Italian-Latino items. I bought a lovely rum cake slice--best I've ever had!!!! I bought some fun-shaped pasta noodles never seen elsewhere. Can't wait to try the sausage, but have a feeling I'll be back just for the "ambiance" of a fun old Italian market! UPDATE. Best Italian market! My go to for the best charcuterie and cheeses in town. Prices are very reasonable. Stopped in this weekend for a selection of prosciutto (the best!), mortadella, salami and manchego cheese. The full butcher section offers custom-cut meats, and freshly made Italian sausage, beer/veal or chicken variations, both wonderfully seasoned and often on sale. Also a fine cheese section and nice wines, again often on sale. The deli has some excellent prepared salads/soups/dishes and italian specialties like antipasto salad. Latin specialties include Cuban Sandwiches, blood sausage, and Cuban bread. They and will make sandwiches to order, including the best Muffeleta I have had outside of New Orleans. A good selection of fresh fruit/veggies, and shelves of specialty Italian cooking items, such as bulk pine nuts and lots of grated cheese varieties. And it has a family feel with very friendly, helpful staff at all stations. I love it that the Armenia Street store is is in walking distance of my home, so when I am on an exercise walk, I can drop in and pick up a sausage re-supply and a few items I did not know I needed until I entered and smelled. read more

I walked up to the counter along with a little Italian lady who spoke Italian to the people behind the counter. I was completely ignored and when she walked away nobody even acknowledged me. Meat market is great. No complaints about that. I had the Cuban from the deli and I was very underwhelmed. Not bad not good. It's exactly how you would describe 5/10. I don't understand why places don't use slow cooked pork on their Cubans? Why even have one if you're going to half ass it and put all deli meat on it? Just don't serve one. Place is nice on the inside. Super busy, great sit down area and everyone is very friendly. Meat counter is fast and has awesome deals. Maybe I need to try something else from the deli but it will not be the Cuban. I'll just stick with stone soup company for my Cuban sandwich fix. read more

"Quite disappointing to be honest. Had more Spanish and Cuban products than Italian..... even the bread, I was looking for fresh Italian Bread and all they had were Cuban Loaves!!?? Oh and the helper in the deli dept... didn't even understand Italian and barely spoke English and didn't even know what Prosciutto was! I was drawn in by the sign "Fresh Mozzarella, well... only to find out that it isn't exactly fresh, it gets shipped in once a week. Not my idea of fresh. Other brands in the store were by Goya and Polly O... I can get them in almost any chain grocery store. Now I will say I did not try to buy any of the meat, so I won't have anything to say about it.... but I can say.....
