Visited Cactus Flower Cafe on Cinco de Mayo. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful vacation in Navarre. Everything is incredibly fresh and the staff is so friendly. All the other reviews say the chips seem like they are store bought, and they were just okay. That wasn't enough to knock a star off though! So Good! I normally get the Mahi tacos because they are fantastic, but our wonderful waiter talked me into the pork tacos. Everyone at our table tried them. I was voted best meal at table. We had a family dinner for eight at the Cactus Flower last night, and absolutely loved it! Food was outstanding....service was very attentive and professional....and the menu is interesting with nice variety and selections. Had the special pork enchiladas, which were delicious...along with guacamole, nachos, and other dishes as suggested by our server. The owners are involved in the operations and are very friendly...which adds a lot to the experience. All in all a great place .... highly recommended! read more

Let me preface this by saying we are from Texas with some of the BEST Mexican reataurants around so our standards are high. That said we gave Cactus Flower a try for two reasons: 1) proximity to Navarre and 2) fellow Yelp positive reviews. As mentioned by another reviewer the menu is small and very basic. One burrito, two types of tacos, etc. Another issue: Our food came out cold. We wondered if ,that's how "California Mexican" food is served but my mahi fish tacos would have been MUCH better warm than cold. My husband ordered the Mango shrimp mini tacos which had good flavor but were served cold as well. Also if you're looking for a tequila based margarita don't go here as they do not have a liquor license. Only wine/beer. The good news is that we received excellent, fast service. But overall given the limited menu, cold food and no margaritas, we will not be back and will try other options further down the road. read more

The dinner size Quesadilla at the Cactus Flower is a must for anyone experiencing a busy week at work, doesn't have time to cook, and looking for some awesome takeout! Where else can you find a quesadilla the size of a medium pizza hearty enough to eat for two or three days. This thing isn't only HUGE, it is delicious! I LOVE Cactus Flower. I've had great service and amazing food every time I've been there. They are very accomodating to vegetarians, as well as a good selection for those of us that are gluten free. If you're looking for a good weekend brunch offering, their Huevos Rancheros are out of this world. The only word of caution I have is this: the portions are HUGE. We stopped in after reading good reviews here on Yelp while we were vacationing in Navarre recently. It was a pleasant surprise after being disappointed in other Navarre restaurants. Very friendly staff! The food is very fresh, creative and delicious. You can tell the kitchen staff cares about what is served. This isn't touristy at all. It has integrity and a plenty of choices on the menu. If I lived in Navarre I would eat there on a regular basis. read more

VERY SALTY food! We have been several time, and though the food is pretty good, it is also very salty. I have felt this way about several items I have ordered. The restaurant is a little crowded. My wife and I heard about this place from a friend. We figured we would give it a try. I pass it every day on my daily commute to work. We decided to visit it a few weeks ago, for the FIRST time. As you approach it, it doesn't look like much. It's just a small place in a tiny strip of a couple units. You can't see inside the restaurant because of the wooden shutters that cover the windows. But, as you go inside, it is a little dark, but it looks cozy, and relaxing, and you instantly smell their homemade salsa with chips! My wife and I were quickly seated at a table, and chips and salsa were immediately placed at the center of the table, chips still wa, salsa nice and cool. I asked where the salsa came from, and our waitress said it is made fresh several times a day, and you can clearly taste how fresh it is! As we got settled, I took a look at the menu. Not too many items, between 8-15 items, so a nice and simple menu. I decided on their Fish Taco. I had never before eaten a fish taco, and that's why I chose it. It was a Mahi Mahi taco with guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and several other ingredients. Needless to say, I was blown away by how delicious it was! This was an incredible first impression for fish tacos, for me at least. Since that dining experience, my family has come here 3 times, and plan on more visits in the future! When it comes to fine, California style Mexican dining, Cactus Flower Cafe is top notch! I checked this place out and was happy I did. In Navarre, we don't have many choices, but this is worth the time and money if you aren't looking to drive far. Our server, Scotti, was excellent. Food was great and different from mexican food back home. Then again I live in St. Louis and Mexican restaurants are scarce. Anyway, I had the Santa Fe enchiladas and they were awesome. Went back with friends and ordered them again. The sauce they pour over the enchiladas is unlike anything I've ever had before. It's creamy, kinda orange brownish and flavorful but not hot. It was delicious. per my friends, the Shrimp or pork (or probably any meat) quesadillas are huge and very good. The guacamole was outstanding, chunks of avocado and the appetizer size is substantial. Chimichanga was good. Pork tenderloin with Verde sauce was excellent but the server said the sauce was not hot at all but it definitely had a bite. Service was very good as well. Oh, and the Flan is to die for. The only drawback is the menu and the bar. the menu is pretty limited and there are no options for combo dinners so no...one taco, one enchilda, and chimi platter :( read more

We enjoyed eating there while on vacation. The quac was delicious. We had a vegetarian burrito with extra peppers and onions which was huge and more than we could eat and a bean and cheese chimichanga. We had enough food left over for lunch the next day. Also had a wine margarita which was ok. With that being said I thought it was a little pricey but we had two meals from the two dinners. Excellent wait staff with a Small homey feeling. Longest waits ever! Tried eating here a year ago and the wait was so awful we went elsewhere. This time we stuck it out and it was meh. We were delayed in being served. Chips are brought out in paper, grabbed up by the staff, and dumped into the basket on your table. Felt like we had to beg for enough salsa for our party of 9. Food was good. I ordered tostadas and was pleased with it. The wait times kill this place though. Waited for well over an hour to even be seated (in the muggy heat outside because there's no waiting area inside) and still waited longer than preferred once inside. My sister and I were in the area and found this place by accident. Didn't know what to expect and were a little taken aback when we walked in and the place was so dark on a beautiful sunny afternoon. Once our eyes grew accustomed to the darkness we saw a cute little restaurant. As soon as we sat down a bowl of chips and salsa was brought to us. I ordered the chicken tostada and was happy to see it was all white meat. My sister got the tacos. We were both very happy with our food, both quantity and price. You get a choice of black beans or retried pinto beans. We both got the black beans whIch were yummy, as well as the rice. The food came out fast and our waitress was efficient and friendly. When we were ready to leave the owner came over and explained their philosophy and where they source their food. I'm a local and have eating here a few times now with my wife. On both occasions the food was just okay but the service and atmosphere were nice. The chips are not made in house (negative for us) and the dishes seemed to lack a little something. Nothing popped but nothing was terrible. We may go back at some point but there was nothing there that we just have to have. We have both eating much better mexican food at a lower price point so this place is not near the top of our list. read more

I am from San Diego-- Cali-Mex capitol of the world and very particular about how my Mexican food is prepared, so I'm very skeptical when I see "Mexican food" east of the Mississippi River having been disappointed time and again. So while on vacation in this little Gulf Coast beach town Navarre we find Cactus Flower Cafe that touts itself as California Style Mexican Food. Uh-huh.... I will say, while not perfect, it's hands down THE BEST Mexican food I've had east of the Mississippi in the 14 years since I moved from San Diego. I read on the menu that their taco shells were all made in house so I was going to have beef crispy corn tacos, however the waitress said that only applied to the flour ones (???) So I had the Santa Fe enchiladas with shredded beef... yep!! that's what I said... they have shredded beef... virtually unheard of in Mexican food out here. It had a very tasty sauce, light on the cheese. The Spanish rice was delicious as well. Chips and salsa were OK... not homemade the way I prefer, but edible. We got the "hot" version of the Nachos appetizer and the cheese sauce was hot with some spicy peppers in it, but the roux it was prepared in was a bit floury...chips were on the verge of staleness. read more

Their mole and verde sauces are AHHHHMAZING!!!!! So freaking good!!! I want the recipe! I love how fresh all the dishes taste. Not your typical Mexican restaurant....nothing tastes like it came from a can. Just wish they had heartier chips vs their lighter ones; I prefer a hearty tortilla that tastes like a corn tortilla was cut into quarters. Definitely eat here.
