Was enjoying a mountain drive with my incredible wife and decided to stop in for lunch. What an amazing mountain town gem this place is. It was cold today so they had a fireplace going inside and it felt warm and comfy. The woman behind the bar treated us like she had known us for years. She acknowledged our same sex marriage and smiled at us. So, I'm guessing this place is very queer friendly. We ordered a few beers and lunch. She ordered a huge burger that had onion rings on top of it and a bowl of their famous red chili. I ordered their vegetarian Philly and it was shockingly good. Cactus Jack's is hands down one of the best bar/restaurant mountain-town locations around. The food was delicious, including the chips and salsa which were fresh. And let's not forget about the Cuban sandwich - it was the best we've ever had, and that's saying something coming from a former Miami resident. The live music on the weekends added an extra level of entertainment to our dining experience. We loved that the venue was super dog-friendly, looks like that include inside too. The house margaritas were killer with the fresh squeezed orange juice. The vibes at Cactus Jack's were on point, whether we were sitting indoors or enjoying the outdoor patio. The ambiance was chill and relaxed, making it the perfect spot to unwind after a long week. They even have a Dog menu with free snacks and entrees too. The only downside was the parking situation- just park down the street and walk in if you're here on the weekend. Overall, we loved Cactus Jack's and will definitely be returning again soon. If you're looking for good food, a fun atmosphere, and a place that loves dogs as much as you do, this is the spot for you. **Extremely Disappointed - Ongoing Issues Ignored** My friends and I have been loyal attendees of Wednesday Trivia Night, but it's become increasingly clear that this establishment has no interest in fixing its repeated issues. This isn't a one-off complaint--this has happened multiple times, and each week it gets worse. Management consistently double-books the space, leaving nowhere for Trivia guests to sit. People were sitting comfortably outside, so there's absolutely no reason the Trivia event had to be crammed indoors with zero planning. It's a careless, thoughtless decision that shows complete disregard for the regulars who actually support these events. The waitstaff, with the exception of one sweet and professional server, are either clearly under the influence or openly rude. I had to sit at a dirty table, and when I asked for silverware--*after* my food was already delivered--the food runner slammed it on the table with visible anger. That's unacceptable behavior from anyone working in hospitality. To make matters worse, leftover food from an earlier event was left sitting out in plain view during Trivia, attracting flies and creating a disgusting and unsanitary atmosphere. Again--this is not the first time we've seen this level of neglect. The good staff clearly seem just as frustrated as the patrons, struggling to serve regulars through the chaos. At this point, I don't even want to go back. This place has lost sight of what it means to be community-centered. Until another Trivia night opens in Evergreen, we'll be heading to Conifer and Golden instead. And since your previous response barely acknowledged the full scope of the issue--expect this to be made public across every review platform I can find. Very fun atmosphere and great outdoor seating. Lots to look at. I tried to order a pumpkin cider but they were sold out. There were some allergy cross contaminations so I couldn't do the pretzels or the bread to dip into the artichoke dip so I requested celery. I had some Mac n cheese which was very good! The service was amazing and has nothing to do with my review. And the lemonade was amazing. The food was slow to come out. I get there is a shortage of people willing to work without benefits but we sat for about 45 minutes before our Philly cheesesteak and friend shrimp came out. There was live music and not only did I not enjoy it, it was too loud to enjoy. And I'm saying this as is one who frequents the punk concerts. It was obnoxiously loud. I even silently cheered when it tripped the fuse and they couldn't play. My "coconut" shrimp were really regular breaded shrimp and over priced for what you got. 10 shrimp and a side of homemade coleslaw. Really the coleslaw was nothing more than shredded cabbage without any kind of sauce if you will. No white dressing, no vinegar dressing, just a side of shredded cabbage. The sauce for the shrimp was good but again, it was advertised as coconut and there wasn't any coconut. I'm guessing my husband liked the cheesesteak and I didn't try any. I didn't ask for any and he ate everything without commenting so I assume it was ok. There is bike parking but for a car.... forget it. We stopped here for lunch after hiking on a Tuesday afternoon and it was just a comedy of errors. It sucks too because an hour after we ordered, I had one of the best Philly cheesesteaks I've ever had in my life. They were understaffed which I totally get and we were patient but the servers kept going to every table but ours and a few people in our party ended up going to the bar to get drinks instead. About 15 minutes later, they walked back out to the party with drinks in hand and we finally put in our food order. Our server kept forgetting things and was apologetic which again, totally get (worked in the service industry for years) but it just seemed like a mess that day. We were so hungry we ended up walking back to the parking lot to get snacks from my car as an appetizer. We were visiting Evergreen and wanted to get a good burger. I asked a lady where the locals eat and she told me two places in the main part of town. The first one was closed and the second one... well we just weren't feelin' it. So I stopped another local and asked where to get a good burger. He recommended Cactus Jack's. He said the burgers are good and reasonably priced. He also said, "It's like a biker bar." Cactus Jacks is located on the far west side of Bear Creek Road. Fortunately, you don't have to cross a busy intersection if you are parked in the main part of town because there's a tunnel that goes under the intersection with stairs (or a ramp) that bring you up to the other side. Just walk to the Baskin Robbin and you'll see the entrance to the tunnel. Then you're about a 4-5 minute walk to Cactus Jack's. As you exit the tunnel you'll see their patio on the other side of the creek. At lunchtime, on a Wednesday I didn't see any bikers. Just middle-aged groups of people enjoying the sun and fresh air on the patio. I ordered a make-your-own burger and my wife ordered the Jurassic Pork (pulled pork sandwich). I also got the Cactus Seasoned Fries for my side. I was concerned they might have been seasoned with cactus... they weren't. They were just great, crispy, perfectly seasoned French fries. The burger was thick and very good. I also tried some of the pulled pork. Both sandwiches were very good! While they were preparing our food I just had to walk around the place. There are so many things to look at on the walls. Stickers, art, a saddle on top of a stool, a traffic light, the leg lamp from A Christmas Story, and much much more. The feel of the place is the Grateful Dead motif. I imagine when the sun goes down and the music cranks up, this could become one hellova place to party. What an incredible Christmas Day! I cannot thank the staff enough for their generous and wonderful hospitality. And for working on the holiday - as a server in another life - I know what this means and I was so grateful. My friends and I had just walked Evergreen lake early Christmas afternoon and smelled the delicious offerings from the creek path - under the dam. I didn't realize they were open and saw a couple of people outside having drinks. Say what?! We decided to pop in to see if they were just doing drinks - and when we peeked in - it was hopping! We decided to join the party, have some lunch and watch the game. They even let our well-behaved pup in with us so he didn't have to spend time alone out in the cold. Great vibes, tunes, staff, and merriment. They were out of a fair bit of stuff (holidays, man) - but the beer was flowing (I had a sweet brown ale and my friends had lagers) and the chicken tenders, were, um, tender. And that's all we needed. The boys loved their chicken sammies and I especially loved the tater tots. Cooked to perfection - not too mushy and not too crispy. Not sure how 3 beers, nachos and a burgers equals $61 but will not be eating here again. Service was bad. We had to ask three times for water. We were told two parties were coming in and we needed to wait 10 minutes to put our food order in. 20 minutes later our server never came back and we had to wave down some else to put our food in. Then it would be a 30 minutes delay for kitchen order. Nacho chips were bad and flavor less and french fries were not seasoned. So I would not recommend eating after 6 pm here. Last Wednesday evening, we had a large group of coworkers visit this restaurant after a day of ice fishing. We immediately went up onto the stage to reserve tables, as that was the only area large enough to facilitate our group. I did not catch the name of our server, but she was heinously rude to our group. She wore a smile, but she "conveniently" forget several parts of our order, though managed to eventually get it to us. In addition, she loudly proclaimed to one of our coworkers, "I need you to dial it in. I know you're drunk, but you need to reign it in." As I stated, we had been fishing all day, but this individual was in no way, shape or form intoxicated. He simply has a fun-loving, jovial personality. Her making her intoxication comment loud enough for nearby patrons to hear was the height of unprofessionalism. This was my first visit to your establishment, and it was also my last. I'm sure your staff are properly trained to identify the signs of intoxication in your guests, but this particular server absolutely needs 100% remedial training. read more

As a lifelong live music fan and Deadhead, this is my spot... solid food, cold drinks and great music. I just moved to the area from the southeast and was excited to check out Bloodkin in Evergreen today for a taste of back home. Evergreen was precious, the space at CJS&G is great, and the music was awesome. The service, however, was so disappointing that I doubt I would ever go back. At the inside bar, I was met by the most rude, condescending bartender I have ever encountered. He seemed to warm for people that he knew approaching the side of the bar (a spot that he frequently told unfamiliar faces was reserved for sitting service only, but seemed to bend 'rules' for people he knew, which visibly created chaos and confusion to people in line). Coming from a tourist city, I actually made the comment the day before that everyone in Colorado has been so welcoming and friendly...however, this was anything but. If I hadn't waited 30 min in line for the drink, I would have told him off and walked away. He made the drink and then walked away without finishing the transaction allowing me to pay. After standing there awkwardly with my credit card in hand (long enough that I felt the need to apologize to the line behind me), he had the nerve to come back and make some rude comment about me still standing there. Finish doing your job, dude, and I will GLADLY leave. I was appalled at his overall attitude and hostility. At a place that hosts such beautiful music?! The energy did not match the music at ALL. I would never subject myself or my money to that treatment, I don't care what band is playing. Then, I stood over in the parking lot area sectioned off (the patio was full, as it should be) and noticed that there was trash on the ground. I have a broken foot and decided to go ahead and pick it up. Didn't see any garbage cans so I went to the beer tent behind me (not a single person in line at that moment) and asked about trash cans. The guy selling beer rolled his eyes and grabbed the trash abruptly then turned away. It was so unnecessarily aggro. USE YOUR WORDS. I can follow direction! Bad vibes all around. My boyfriend (an executive chef in Denver) was equally as turned off by the reception. I was afraid to order food. Lord knows the inconvenience that would have caused, but it did look good as I saw it walk by. I chugged my drink and went down the street for some peace. ***Addendum based on the laughable Google response from the business, insinuating I am simply too emotionally sensitive for them during busy hours: If you can't handle a crowd with hospitality and kindness- send these bands to another location and consider yourself unprepared. It's called having good business show up at your doorstep and you should be happy for the extra $$. Again- my boyfriend is an executive chef at a high end (always busy!) restaurant and agreed that it was inappropriate, rude behavior. NOT TACT. We know the difference. Jesus. Gaslight much?? Sat alongside Bear Creek with live music, cornhole, and an extremely welcoming dog policy, Cactus Jack's is the perfect laid back weekend spot to grab drinks. I think the food was underwhelming but again - know why you're going. I've been coming here many years. I get their fried chicken wings a couple times a month - so crispy!! Great sauce variety. The wraps are so good. I love to get the green or red chili on a chili day. They always have a fun event going on and I come here when I want to hear live music or just be around others. Nice vibe and atmosphere. Fun pool table and great creekside seating and fire pits. Can't go wrong stopping here anytime of year. I often walk my dog around the lake and then sit by the creek for a drink or snack after. The Long Island iced teas don't disappoint!
