THE WINGS: I had no clue what my colleagues meant when they asked if I wanted to jump on the ferry to go to Kelley's Island to get some chicken wings. Seems like a big ordeal to go over specifically for wings. But sure, I went. 4:35pm: My buddy and I arrive and the place was DEAD. Not a soul in sight. There was a sign that said the wings will be ready at "5:00ish". 4:45pm: Two beers in and I can smell the charcoal. I watch the cook dump two trash bags worth of chicken wings onto the grill. He spreads them aggressively with his hands. Now I'm starting to see why these are a big deal. 4:55pm: A half drunken lady shows up asking if the wings are ready. She is displeased that she must wait for "5:00ish" 4:59pm: The entire population of Kelley's island converged on Caddy Shack (slight hyperbole). My buddy quickly jumped in line. I consider myself a bit of a wing snob and now I'm thinking "damn, how good could these wings be?" 5:00ish: The first two dozen hit the table. I smell them and quickly ask another friend to grab 3 more dozen. 5:00ish and 30 seconds later: SWEET BABY JESUS why have I never heard of these wings before. My immediate thought was "how can these be recreated on my grill?" 5:15pm: Our entire table is now seated and we have Nine Dozen wings staring at us. I begin to think, "there is no chance we finish all of these wings" 5:20pm: I lose count of how many wings I have consumed. It's too many. The boneyard bowl is full. Must use another bowl. Everyone is still going strong. We can do this! 5:30pm: Some people begin to fade. They are weak minded. Not me. I'm going to see this through. 5:45pm: Four wings remain. 104 of 108 wings have been devoured and we draw straws to see which of us is to consume the remaining four. The chosen four smash the remaining wings. 5:50pm: Mission accomplished! We did it. We finished the best wings in the history of wings. The next hour was a bit of a blur. 24 hours later and I'm trying to figure out how to get back for those wings. I think I'm going tomorrow. Maybe I'll see you there read more

This restaurant and bar can be summed up in one phrase...cool island vibes! The food is really good and the drinks are incredible. They have tons on tap and there are many that were new to me with the standards as well. The bartenders are so nice and helpful. They know the taps like no one's business and willingly share their knowledge. Their hours are stunted due to the ferry to get there but it is so worth it. I could take my kid and he loved it too! Totally worth the drive and the gorgeous walk from the ferry or rent a golf cart. The outdoor patio is chill and comfortable with plenty of seating as is the inside with the dining area and the massive bar. read more

Caddy Shack Rentals has terrible customer service! We ordered two carts the evening before our visit. one 4 person and a 6 person. We had some participants not attend, so we wanted to cancel the 4 person. The "owner" pretended to look at the computer and stated he had no 6 person carts available and he stated we ordered 2 - 4 person carts. (not true) Because we didn't cancel 24 hours in advance he would not let drop the 4 person. We didn't even reserve the carts 24 hours in advance. Truth is he did not have any 6 person carts available, so he made it like we ordered the wrong carts. Then he walked away and let a young kid deal with us. We took the two 4 person carts and made sure to let them know an appropriate review would be administered. We will not use his company again. read more

Caddyshack is a great first stop when you firsget to Kelley's Island if you arrive hungry - which we always do! Great, unpretentious pizza and hot subs. Two of us got pizza (plain cheese/Hawaiian) and two got the grilled Italian subs. Everyone was happy. Since Corona, you go up and order, then get your own food at the window - but staff are masked, friendly and happy to help. This is where we go to soak in the KI vibe, start to relax and plan out our next few days of vacay. Love KI! read more

The Caddy Shack is a must if you visit Kelley's Island! The chargrilled wings they have on special days are so popular and delicious that waiting in line for over an hour isn't a surprise. The pizza is pricey but really good too! Highly recommend their sausage on pizza. On the weekends, they typically have a band or DJ which makes for a fun afternoon or evening on their patio. read more

I can't believe this place gets four or more stars from anyone. Maybe the pizza is phenomenal? Maybe other dishes? Spinach salad w veggie n corn burger, called "Chop-chop" (or chicken) on the side *would probably get 4/5 from me and my girlfriend--except that they extreme-shorted us on the featured sunflower seeds, gave us Ken's ranch dressing and grated Kraft (seriously??) parmesan in little packets instead of housemaid... and the sunflower seeds to me tasted a little rancid. Plenty of chicken on herso and veg burger on mine. Good selection of craft beer, excellent for an out of the way Ohio burger and pizza joint. It's BFE to someone from Ann Arbor and Detroit, MI suburbs, used to a very wide selection of craft beers. These subs are on steroids. The CS-41 is my jam. The cilantro lime slaw balances out the subtly spicy barbecued pork perfectly. It is a sandwich that inspires poetry and fills bellies. The Turkey Bacon is piled high with meat, lettuce and tomato then smothered in a mayonnaise that complements the saltiness of the meats to perfection. Finally, for my ambitious eaters and true fat-kids you have the Homer. This sandwich is not for the meek. They take bread... toast it... then they make a stop at every single station they have in the kitchen and put a little bit of everything on it. Ok - not a fancy joint. We had to buy our meal three different places. But the pizzas we ordered were very good with the best white pizza ever! Perfect! Second purchase was drinks at the bar and they were good. Third purchase was at a BBQ pit outdoors that does "famous" chicken Wings. no frying here but perfectly BBQ'd. So pizza, wings, cold beer. We were there on a very busy day and they staff seemed to handle the demand pretty well. The place is all open air with a large roof structure, so you won't have to worry about the ac situation. Whatever the elements deliver, that's what you're going to get. Didn't order any food, just drinks and there is no smoking inside the property lines (which I think is overkill) but know that all the non smokers appreciate. read more

Another island favorite that I've been coming to for years. Their pizzas are pretty good, probably the best (and maybe the only?) on the island. Always loved their mini-golf course when I was younger. They do karaoke a couple times a week, which can be really fun if you're part of a group and have had enough to drink. Tons of beer on tap! The girl at the food ordering station was a bit short but overall pretty decent experience. Calzones are 12 to 15 with the pizzas running around 20 bucks or so for a 12" pizza. We tried the walleye spread. It was ok. The pizza is pretty thick and the large has 8 slices. We thought there wasn't going to be enough but were surprised. Rented a golf cart from them and very nice experience, no problems at all. I will say the two seater carts go quickly so get one early or the four seater is a few bucks more. The golf carts got us to where we wanted to go, but a little slow up hills, also no horn, no turn signals, no side mirrors, those items would be very much a plus. (unless I am too dumb and couldn't find them) Reasonable prices, and good experience overall. Nice too that you can rent the cart until 9pm --we were there on a Wednesday. Fun for the whole family! Order your pizzas (or subs or salads) from the window and then grab whatever you're drinking at the bar. There is air hockey, video games and a claw machine to occupy the little ones, and also putt-putt outside. Caddy Shack has a large draft beer selection which is quite a rarity on the island. I'd say some of the best food on the island, too. Many people think the pizzas are to die for, but I prefer the subs. The turkey sub and italian are AMAZING. On weekends and summer nights, the outdoor 'Buckeye Bar' is open and where you're going to find most of the crowds for any OSU game. Good place, I like the outdoor environment with cornhole and cheap plastic tables/chairs. Usually live music or karaoke on busier nights outside. Pretty decent place to hang out at. Great place! For beers on the island this is the place to go. They have the caddy shack bar inside and the buckeye bar outside. They both have a terrific selection of beers on tap and also root beer which was fun for those in our group that do not drink. I was not hungry when we went here but the pizza looked really good. With a great twist on bar food, this place doesn't believe in fryers. Best subs, pizza, and wings on the island and probably the mainland! Yes! This place is family friendly during the day and usually has great adult night life after 10pm. The weekends have a more dance party atmosphere at night. We appreciated the fast and friendly service from Caddy Shack yesterday with 21 Boy Scouts and 7 adult leaders. Most of the kids got pizza which looked really good...I was too stuffed from the outstanding "CS 41" pulled pork sandwich to try the pizza. Would definitely return if on the island. Really good pizza and root beer. My kids loved the white pizza which is really surprising, but we went back the next day so we could get another one. The large isn't that large so just order accordingly. You order your drinks even water or soda from the bar. I think this may be the best root beer I've had. BEST WINGS I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! We were lucky enough to be in the island for Attitude Adjustment Friday. We were bouncing around to the different bars and stopped here just as wings were going on the grill. We got our name on the list (yes, you have to sign up for them) and honestly wish we had signed up for 2 dozen instead of just a dozen. I have never had grilled wings before and don't know if I will be able to eat deep fried ones again. Not sure what they marinate them in....it is sort of a sweet and spicy sauce...but it works. We vacation twice a year at the Seaway and always make multiple trips up town to the Caddy Shack for beer and food, we are never disappointed and always miss it all winter long. Some of the best pizza and even better calzones! The only thing better than the calzone are their grilled wings that are served only on Wednesdays and Saturdays. This is my favorite place to watch a Buckeye game on the island. Great service, fantastic pizza and if you are lucky... you can try some of Brett's wings! You have to get there early because they go fast. My husband loves them! I am vegan and I was pleased to find that they can even make a really great veggie sub on a toasted bun and with so many veggies I can't finish it! Awesome atmosphere outside, hand written menu is pretty cool too. A lot of tvs everywhere which was nice. But that's basically the only good things I can say about the place. The inside was basically a room with a bar and it wasn't really inviting. We ordered a pizza which we could hardly eat due to all of the grease. The crust fell apart when we tried to pick up a slice. Not worth the $15 spent on a "large" pepperoni pizza. Also, don't rent the golf carts until you try them first. Ours had poor handling and terrible brakes. Very tourist oriented location. read more
