Friendly but fairly aloof in terms of service, the young waitress spending much of this slow service flirting with a bartender, Stravaigin's menu offers a good bit of customization whether one opts to partake a just a Burger, in courses or using small-plates as a sort of Tapas. Not neglecting Whisky across a Cocktail list, Elevenses a smoky Citrus masterpiece, the "wee" portion of Haggis is perfect for one with four-bites of liberally spiced Offal alongside equal size quenelles of Potatoes and Rutabaga. Spanning south for fried Bitterballen, straight out of Germany with smoked Ham, Fish Fritters get a bit muddled by the aggressive heat and creamy dressing while Carrots are unevenly cooked but pleasant in a mix of Nuts, Beets and unnecessary Tofu. The interior is classy and dark and has an "old money" feel in a good way. It's downstairs and you feel like you are entering somewhere secret and discrete. The only bad thing is they had the heat cranked UP when we went. It was so hot down there I didn't know how some of the staff were running around in long sleeves, I had to keep going outside to get some nice chilly air to take a break from all the heat. The food was 5 stars but the heat did make the experience not pleasant. Spring White Negroni: Gin, white vermouth, limoncello. Nice, cool, and refreshing in that hot, hot dining area, lol. New Style Sashimi: Salmon, bass, and scallops. Basically a crudo topped with furikake and slices of ginger. We thought this was overly sauced and a very unjapanese way to eat Sashimi so it was too far of a departure for us. Local Lindisframe Rock Oysters: Excellent, sweet and not too large, these you have to eat fast because of the heat. You can see the ice melting and fusing in the picture and I took that picture as soon as it was brought out! King Prawn Noodle Salad: This was SO good, our whole family loved it. The standard of the food is outstanding, the service is impeccable, they have a small but select wine list and a good cocktail menu. All in a relaxed and not overcrowded atmosphere. It's been too long since we'd visited, but it was just as good as we remembered. I had the tuna sashimi to start - which unexpectedly came with chopsticks - while Herself went for the tuna tartare. Both absolutely delicious, melt-in-the-mouth good. For mains, it was the halibut and scallops for her; I tried the monkfish, although with some slight trepidation over the banana, green lentil and chickpea sauce. I needn't have worried though, it wasn't a very strong curry and actually worked really well with the monkfish and the haddock. Just enough room to squeeze in a dairy-free sorbet for me - they had a lovely cucumber sorbet that was served with the tuna tartare, so I tried that. Herself can never resist a good cheese board, and this one was good (so I'm told). All in all, a fantastic meal. So good that I completely forgot to take any pictures. The sad news is that Derek, the owner is apparently planning to retire and is looking for someone to take over the business, so my advice is to get in there quickly before he's gone. The service was impeccable. We were lucky enough to be seated at the chef's table and we observed all of the food being prepared. Most dishes required that tweezers be used to put the plate together by the chef. There's a very nice selection of whiskey, the woman who assisted us was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. That's exactly what we got. We walked to the Chip after visiting the relatively nearby Kelvingrove Museum. It's in a not-too-touristy area with tons of nearby restaurant options and hidden in a little alley (or "close") off Byres Road. There are multiple "venues" within Ubiquitous Chip - 2 bars (The Corner and The Wee...) We ended up at the Wee ahead of our reservation time, and the bartender guided us well with a dram after asking for something he thought was great that we'd have a more difficult time getting back in the States. (Ledaig). Both bars were pretty packed, so we wandered back and forth between the 2 until a spot finally opened at the Wee Pub. Our reservation was for the main dining room (not the Brasserie). There was a lot for us to enjoy as vegetarians. We rolled our own tasting menu with a plate of Scottish cheeses (typically a dessert item on Scottish menus, but we stand by the legitimacy of cheese for dinner). All 5 cheeses were vegetarian (ie no rennet) and served with a nice chutney and 2 different types of in-house-made crackers. It was delightful. We also had the BBQ Carrots dish...it's two carrot chunks, soft-cooked, charred on the outside, served on a delicious bed of sauces with a lovely Indian curry vibe. We got a salad with honey mustard dressing, fennel and shaved celery...it was very fresh and a nice counterpoint to the cheese and carrots. We also got potatoes, which were topped with creme fresh and light herbs. The potatoes were a little dry and light on flavor, but dipped in the creme and also in the leftover sauce from the carrots dish, they did the job. Service was stellar and friendly. Dining in the main restaurant makes you feel like you're outside. There are live plants everywhere, and a ceiling made up of windows like a greenhouse. You can see the brasserie, the more casual restaurant, on the second level (though, honestly, the main restaurant didn't feel unnecessarily stuffy like some fine dining restaurants. This was the perfect place for us to have a final meal in Scotland with plenty of food, drink and friendly service that left the perfect taste in our mouths.

The vibe tho is grown up, serene and subdued in the best ways, the cream walls were dotted with beautiful abstract art in shades of grey, there was a large fireplace feature, soothing just audible music, fresh red roses on the table (it was valentines!) linen table cloths. It was beautiful and even though it was jumping it felt like a calm and soothing environment. The staff were exactly what you would expect from a restaurant like the Sister - delightful. They were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the service was fast...probably faster than it normally would be due to the date, having said that I never once felt rushed or harassed - the staff were just sharp and on the ball with clearing plates. The menu at the sisters is like a love letter to Scotland, it was loaded with haggis, black pudding, fish, venison, beef cheeks, clootie dumpling and puff candy. It was like head chef Jackie O'Donnell had stepped into my childhood and brought all those foods into the 21st century. I could very easily have chosen any dish on offer from each course, it's an utterly lush menu. In the end I decided to try the haggis, neeps and tatties to start, I never took pictures of the menu so I forget the exact description of the dish. My first thought upon seeing my dish was wow! There was a puddle of glossy gravy, in the middle was a large haggis cake topped with neeps and a fritter....yes a freakin FRITTER!! I was beside myself as I am sure by now you know how I feel about fritters. The food was utterly gorgeous and without fault, the haggis was tasty and slightly spicy, the neeps were light and creamy, and the fritter was crisp and perfect. Gorgeous! For my main I finally decided on the Chicken breast with Stornoway black pudding, creamed leeks & a red wine jus with a side of Rooster tatties & market vegetables to share. Again visually it was so beautiful to look at. Taste wise it was amazing, the chicken was moist and tender, the creamed leeks still had bite and were seasoned to perfection, the big wedge of black pudding was soft and crumbly, the mash was silky and the red wine jus was lush and decedent. The side was also a triumph - the roasted potatoes were crispy golden nuggets of joy and the veg was incredibly tasty, I even liked the broccoli (I hate broccoli) but I loved however they cooked it. After all that food dessert was touch and go for a while, but there was no way I could leave without trying the Puff candy meringue with honeycomb, ice cream & hot butterscotch sauce. Now lets not kid ourselves this dish it basically a plate of sugar in various forms.....but boy what a plate of sugar it was. The puff candy meringue was light and delicate, the honeycomb was crunchy and sweet and the butterscotch sauce was thick and creamy. This dessert is as good as desserts get. It was a stunning gift from the sugar gods! All in all a pretty exceptional meal and up there with the best I have eaten in Glasgow without question. Pretty soon I was trotting into a deliciously creamy vegan soup (coconut cream, sweetcorn and cucumber, I think?), followed by sea bass with roast potatoes - they have her a pepperonata sauce as I'm non- dairy compliant, washed down with a huge bottle of Albariño wine. Then for dessert, a rhubarb meringue with raspberry sorbet (for me), and a glass of Pedro Ximinez to finish. Service was friendly and helpful and efficient and even though the menu was seemingly concise each of the dishes appears to be thoughtfully created and masterfully executed. I started with a Spanish rioja which was delicious. My starter was the scallops and the portion was generous and nicely seared with a middle eastern style presentation. My main was the lamb rump - which doesn't sound like a cut I'd gravitate to but it proved to be an ample portion and a nice serving. Once again with a middle eastern twist and every item on the plate made sense, was complimentary and nicely executed. I was too full for desert but those around me ordered and everything coming out of the kitchen looked equally delicious, generously portioned and all I saw were happy smiling faces and empty plates going back to the kitchen.
