Café 106 is an absolute gem. It exudes home cooked vibes. Even on the 4th of July, parking was no problem as there's a lot out back plus plenty of street parking. We brought our dog and were thrilled to find their outdoor seating is pup-friendly. The staff was so friendly and service was fast. Like, impressively fast. Now let's talk food: the coffee was great, and the orange juice was super fresh. I had Janet's Stuffed Hashbrowns loaded with sour cream and cheese, served with rye toast and the most delightful strawberry jam. The scrambled eggs? Cooked perfectly fluffy. I also tried the cinnamon roll pancake which are incredible. The cream cheese frosting was to die for, and the crispy, sugary outer layer gave them the best texture. Affordable prices, dog-friendly patio, delicious food, and speedy, kind service--this place easily earns a rare 5/5 from me. I'll definitely be dreaming about coming back!

A cozy space with lots of Americana on the walls. Was full when we got there late on a Sunday morning, but we had to wait all of two minutes for a table. Server showed up quickly once we were seated to take our order. After taking it to the kitchen she returned with a coffeepot to keep on our table so we could tend to our refills. With us as customers, that saved her a lot of running. And coffee was good, a bit above average for diner brew. My wife got a basic egg-potato-toast breakfast, which she was happy with, especially since the hash browns came extra crispy as ordered. I opted for "Brad's Skillet", a bowl of hashbrowns mixed with ham, bacon, sausage and cheese w/ two eggs on top. While waiting for it I wondered if it had been such a good idea to order what amounts to a fat bowl, but when it arrived I saw it was actually kind of light on the meats, which made me feel both relieved and disappointed. It was satisfying and didn't need any more animal product in it. Both our breakfasts came with strawberry jam that tasted homemade. I didn't see a notice on the menu that it was, but it tasted for all the world like the kind my mother used to make. With some offbeat (some might say hipster) menu items, Cafe 106 can satisfy a taste for something novel or for some of the old diner standbys.

Baja Chicken omelette with a biscuit

Breakfast was really good! Wonderful service! We sat outside because we had a dog with us. The wait staff was great either her. I had the Baja Chicken omelette. It came with hash browns and toast, but they willingly substitute a biscuit. All of our food was really hot. The biscuit had been cut in half and grilled and served with strawberry jam. The omelette was filled with chicken, onions, peppers and topped with cheese and avocado. Other orders at the table included Brad's Skillet and an omelette with lots of chorizo in it. Our pup got 2 scrambled eggs and was very pleased.

Then, you pick up your bag of food at a little window outside, and then find a place to eat outside or take it home or to your hotel or wherever. If you're dining during decent weather, you can take your food to one of the tables located in the plaza. So, now you know how Keeper's Fish Shack works. Hopefully, I've saved you from sounding like a bozo like me, when I said, "This is a to-go order" when you order. Because duh. All of the orders are to-go orders. I ordered the blackened North Pacific Cod Tackle Box. Tackle Boxes come with fries, hush puppies, coleslaw and sauce. The fish was very tender and flaky, and the spices they used were just spicy enough to give it oomph. The hush puppies are a definite must-order, and I say this as a person who has neutral feelings about hush puppies. My husband got the Fried Shrimp Tackle Box, and he said that the shrimp were perfectly fried: not too much batter. They have a kids menu here: your choice of fried cod bites or chicken tenders. We got one of each, and my kids really liked them, especially the cod bites with a little tartar sauce. The kids meals come with apple sauce and fries, but no drink. When you go into the shack to order, look to your right and you'll see refrigerators with lots of different beverages, including local Michigan beer in cans. It was nice to drink a local beer while enjoying our fish meals outside in the plaza. When we visited, the farmers market was happening in that same plaza and there was live music, too. That's the best way to experience fish at the beach, if you ask me.

The food was served quickly and piping hot. I got the fried perch tackle box. I really wanted to add a piece of another fish like blackened mahi mahi, but they declined. With my tackle box and my husband's, the total was upwards of $50. The portions were small, especially the fries for that price. With it being a walk up restaurant, you aren't paying for service. While the food was good, I probably won't make a second trip.
