We sat outside to enjoy the New Mexican sunshine. Greg was our awesome waiter. Topped off waters regularly, great conversation, friendly atmosphere. My husband loved the lamb enchiladas and I had the homemade tamales smothered Christmas style like only NM can do right! We also enjoyed chips and salsa and the salsa was incredible. We just love this little place! My sister and I and our dad were renting a vacation home near Lake Abiquiu, and we stopped in to the cafe one afternoon for beers and snacks. We sat on their beautiful patio underneath the cottonwood tees, and drank cold, refreshing beers, and snacked on chips, salsa, and their delicious queso blanco dip with New Mexican green chilies. Just perfect! We returned for dinner another night and the three of us shared a bottle of wonderful Gruet Chardonnay. So good, and reasonably priced! Highly recommend. It is also available by the glass. Then we each dined on the chicken enchiladas with green chili sauce, which we all agreed were just fantastic! Add super friendly service and a cozy indoor ambiance, and you've got a winner! The only tiny bump was that we had to wait a bit for our check, but other than that, just two really pleasant dining experiences. Y'all broke my heart today. I had enjoyed good food & service in Sept 2025 while passing through town. But the A team was not there today! Dang - who serves lukewarm Tortilla Soup on Jan. 31? How hard is it to serve HOT soup in winter? Your Winter Mojo was off today from start to finish. Understaffed or rookie staff was No Bueno. I was seated in the hallway area and the service was bad. I believe there were separate waitstaff for each of the 4 tables. So while I was seated first, an older gent who came in 5 mins after me got waited on first. Then my waitress arrived & forgot my coffee so I asked another waiter. Thankfully the coffee was Hot! Sadly my waitress never checked in on me so I relied on the other waitstaff for my coffee & more water. I was given 20% off my cold soup but Free should have been the deal. The menu had changed and not for the better. The service was verging on lousy. The patio is pleasant, but I like good food. They seem to have switched to mostly New Mexican dishes. We had some of the best food of our trip. The fire roasted salsa is delicious and flavorful, not just hot. The chips are blue and yellow corn with a nice crunch. The guacamole is finely chopped in a pico style. We both loved it. The soup was a tomato garlic gazpacho blended to a creamy texture. It had drops of chili oil on top so was beautiful as well as delicious. The burger was top notch. The art in the dining area was a perfect complement to the log ceiling. It was too chilly to eat on the patio but others did. It seemed like a nice place too. The series of rooms feature fun shopping. Art, lavender, jewelry, books, clothes, purses, and several souvenirs. I've tried so very hard over the years to like their food with an appreciation that it is a small community, therefore don't expect much. But frankly Chef, you need to overhaul this menu. It's boring and tasteless. Or just stale. The prime rib was seasonless and staff failed to serve it with au jus and horseradish sauce. Elote as an appetizer side and in lieu of queso paired with corn tortilla chips? That became a hard pass after tasting. Corn tortilla chips with elote is too much corn! Tasteless hamburger patty? Really? Diversify the wine list going outside of NM please. Train staff to be critical thinkers. We are in the northern desert and still I had to ask for more water several times. Why not put a bottle of water on the table? Prevents customer discomfort & irritation and maximizes staff time. Also had to ask for all condiments. The restaurant was not busy so really should've had more efficient service. Although we still visit here and keep trying, we made a note to bring more food with us and to sadly pass on Cafe Abiquiu. read more

Sadly, this place has gone way downhill in the last few years. I've loved going here to enjoy a cocktail and a burger on their gorgeous patio, but when my partner and I went the other night, we were very disappointed in the food, drinks, and service. His lamb burger was dry and flavorless. My beef burger was *okay* but certainly not worth the price point. The gin martinis we ordered were so bad we sent them back--they tasted like someone had poured a little bit of gin into ice water and then stuck an olive in there. And they were served in wine glasses, which was very weird. When our server finally came back a good 20 minutes later, I said we'd like to swap the cocktails for some wine and explained why, and she was a little rude about it. She'd taken away the drink menu when she took our order and then didn't come back with it for another 10 minutes, so by the time we got our wine we were almost finished with our meal. The prices have gone up significantly in the last three years, while the quality has gone way down. I hope they can figure this stuff out because the setting really is beautiful. read more

The food is okay... I've done breakfast and dinners here for 3 days because I'm working locally. The service has been terrible, seems like they forget I have to constantly ask for a refill on my drinks. The prices are outrageous!! Now I travel quite a bit and eat out a lot. I'm not afraid to pay for good food but $3.00 per extra topping on your hamburger? It is a lot for a little extra. For breakfast the omelette you have to pay per ingredient! It doesn't make sense! My husband and I took an overnight trip to Pagosa Springs for our wedding anniversary and decided to stop for lunch at Cafe Abiquiu on the way up. The dining room is nicely decorated, and we were seated pretty quickly. We both had the lamb burger; I got the housemade potato chips and my husband had a cup of avocado cucumber soup with his. The burger was very good, closer to medium than the medium rare I ordered, but tasty with an onion mint marinade and fresh spinach. The chips were also good and well-seasoned. My husband's soup was really tasty. It would make a nice light lunch with a salad. To drink, I had iced mint tea which was delicious. My husband's rosemary lemonade was excellent, and I would definitely order it again. read more

I am not prone to reviews, but I can't help it in this instance. We popped in for lunch on a Friday at noon. It took 15 minutes before we were approached by our server and brought glasses of water. We ordered a beer and a wine, which took another 12 minutes to arrive. Then we ordered food, at the 27 minute point. It took another 20 minutes for the food. So our lunch arrived after sitting in the booth for 47 minutes. The burger and sandwich were actually pretty good once they arrived, but the service was unacceptable. I won't be going back any time soon. There are better places in Abiquiu. read more

This restaurant is locate in a local Inn, but is open to the public. There is amazing indoor and outdoor seating. The service was friendly and quick. We chose to sit in the outdoor seating, which is surrounded by giant trees and provided great views. The menu offered many tempting options. I attempted to order the lamb burger, which has an onion mint marmalade. Unfortunately, the restaurant was out of lamb. I ended up getting the chicken fried steak and was not disappointed. This was on of the best chicken fried steaks I have ever had. The bread was perfect and the flavor was amazing. It was tender and easy to cut. I also enjoyed lavender lemonade. I am staying in the area for a few nights. I stopped by Cafe Abiquiú yesterday afternoon for lunch. The lamb burger was excellent. The outdoor seating area is lovely. It deserves five stars. However, I stopped by again today, but, after waiting to be seated for a SOLID five minutes, I left. The male server was visibly flustered and I overheard him reorder French fries for two patrons because the ones that they received were cold. Today was NOT the day to dine at Cafe Abiquiú. The management needs to slightly increase their prices in order to pay their employees more. THAT'S how you recruit and retain staff. read more

We drove out to Abiquiu with low expectations for food. This place was quite the surprise. Wonderful wait staff that were super friendly. I ordered the trout and it was cooked to perfection- it was so good - i did not pay attention to what my friends ordered so I cant name the photos that i took - hence, they are each called "entree" in my photos. Everyone enjoyed their meal and left satisfied. One of our better meals on this trip to New Mexico. There was also a cute gift shop and some nice art for sale on the premises too. read more

Cafe Abiquiu really exceeded our expectations. We thought it was just a road side joint but what we had was really tasty. The avocado and cucumber soup was delicious and refreshing with its touch of mint and the strawberry field green salad with optional salmon was also really good. There is plenty of room to sit both inside or outside and, while you are waiting, you can admire the many works of art for sale that are displayed on each wall. Both the art and the food are satisfying to both body and soul, but, fortunately, the food is much more in our price range! If you are visiting the Georgia O'Keeffe welcome center, the restaurant is conveniently right next door. There is plenty of parking and the service was very friendly. read more

I'll start by saying that we have been huge fans of this restaurant for several years. Well, we just tried it for the first time since they rolled out their new menu, and what a disappointment. The menu is half the size of the old one, and is very pedestrian, lacking in any imagination. We had a hard time choosing anything we wanted to eat. So we shared the ceviche and the fish special, which was cornmeal battered cod. The ceviche was very good, but the fish was awful. It was served as fish strips, in a way over-salted cornmeal batter. It was overcooked and chewy. The best thing about the meal was the Happy Hour pricing. I'll give them another chance, because we really like it there, but first impression is that they've ruined rhe restaurant. I hope they can get back on track! read more

There were things that merited a 1 or 2 and things that merited a 4-5, so I averaged this as a 3. We stayed at the Abiquiu Inn and so had breakfast here two mornings. The huevos rancheros were as good as many other reviewers said. I had them with red chili sauce the first day and we split one with green chili sauce the second day. Both were great, but I'd say the green was a 4 and the red was a 5. My wife had the Benedict the first morning and it was good but a little bland. They substituted a red chili sauce for hollandaise sauce but it could have used more red chili. The one dinner was another story. We ordered a bottle of Tempranillo - the server came back to tell us they were out. So we ordered some wines by the glass to figure out what else we might do and then tried to order dinner. My wife ordered the lamb burger - no lamb. She then tried to order the pork enchiladas - no pork. So we asked if there was anything else not available and the server said no steak. So, no lamb, no pork, and no steak! I had the green chili stew; fortunately they had stew beef and potatoes and it was tasty. My wife settled for the shrimp tacos, and they were - adequate. read more

I've lived in Northern New Mexico for many years and eaten at the Cafe numerous times over the years. A friend and I decided to try it for breakfast after hearing a new chef and manager had taken over. We both ordered huevos ranchros. The chili was tasteless and bland, not something you would expect in this area. We both rolled our eyes when we saw what looked like tater tots touted as "breakfast potatoes." All in all a very unmemorable meal. Neither my friend, who is also a long time Norteno and has eaten frequently at the Inn in the past, and I plan to go back any time soon. We enjoyed lunch at this cute little cafe. The sandwiches were perfect. I enjoyed the cold cucumber soup. The view from the patio is quaint. The food is always nice at Cafe Abiquiu at the Abiquiu Inn. A nice assortment of salads, burgers and simple entrees. I enjoy their Green Chile Cheeseburger (with choice of slaw, fries or soup). The salads are tasty and ample. Both indoor and patio seating is available. Prices are very reasonable. Service is consistently spotty. It's often difficult to get drink refills or coffee after the meal. Very pretty setting for lunch or dinner. read more

We treated ourselves to a Valentine's getaway at the Abiquiu Inn, so we had the chance to eat at the on site restaurant. The property is so lovely year round and the cozy feel definitely includes the cafe. We had dinner and then breakfast the next morning, each meal had great presentation and was delicious! We ordered the Chicken Manuel and the Angus Strip Steak for dinner with wine and beverages. The steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare with tasty compound butter on top, the chicken was also yummy. Feedback is that the mashed potatoes were fluffy but quite bland, we asked the server for additional compound butter to liven them up. We tried a desert which was listed as a Piñon Tart with Dark Chocolate, but in reality it totally missed the mark and was pie crust filled with what seemed like over-the-top sweet fudge and a couple piñons sprinkled on top. For breakfast the next morning we both had the Huevos Rancheros which was heavenly and perfect with coffee on a chilly morning! I highly recommend this place even if you're not staying at the Inn. read more

Come to my table after a few gestures from me like wtf after an hour and 30 minutes of being a patient customer said idk what happened but the kitchen didn't get your order we will comp your food? Told her worst service ever this place is incompetent and the two beers I drank was on them for wasting my afternoon! Canceled my food and left starving!This was like the first meal I had waited to have in all day left at 325pm after sitting down and ordering at 2 and watching everyone around me order be served and leave what a joke! Most of our three or four visits here have been 4-star, and we willingly drive an hour to have lunch. The most recent, about 8/19/21 at 3:00PM, was only 3-star. The positives: It's the only sit-down restaurant on the highway from Espanola to Chama, NM. They are open all day, so when you're through sightseeing or just want an off-hours lunch or dinner, you're welcome. The general ambiance is very nice, if a bit artsy-touristy (Georgia O'Keefe country, with$5000-20,000 sculptures offered in the front garden), within the Abiquiu Inn. The menu is sophisticated, NOT "Mexican," but NEW Mexican. (There's a delightful difference.) The featured cold avocado-cucumber soup is outstanding, and almost everything else is good to wonderful. The negatives: Our hostess/waitress was blasé and cool until time to pay the check and leave a tip. Her mask was down around her neck most of the time, even indoors. (We dined on the patio during Covid delta-vatiant times.) Service was a bit slow, both initially and for our food. The highway noise is substantial, and flies are often a problem indoors (common even in very nice northern NM restaurants). The prices are high, though not exorbitant for rural fancy dining. read more

Was in the area overnight and came to Cafe Abiquiu for both dinner and breakfast the next morning. I have to say the food was exquisite. The polenta cake was delicious and the sweet red peppers coulisse to die for. Our server was so friendly and welcoming. She offered us samples of home-brewed mint tea and rosemary lemonade. They were delicious had several refills. I had the Enchilada & Chile Relleno plate which, at 14 dollars, was super affordable as well as amazingly tasty. The Chile was the best relleno I've had in a LONG time. It had be fried in a very light and crispy batter making it crunchy and light. Sooooo good! We came back for breakfast the following morning as the restaurant had been such a hit...if it's not broke... :) The breakfast menu offers a very wide array of warm dishes spanning from eggs to pancakes. Because I am not a fan of either I asked to please get my usual...a sausage and cheese and bread. I honestly would have been ok with the ingredients on a plate and to assemble it myself (like it often happens when I order this) but the server was super nice and told me she'll see if they could make me a panini. Not only did I get the hot sandwich ready to eat and with hot gooey cheese melted in in, but it was also the BEST sausage and cheese sandwich I've had to date...and I should be an expert by now since I eat this a lot LOL. This place is just terrific. All around wonderful, from services provided (inn, restaurant, breakfast place, gift shop, patio seating...) amazing level of culinary options and complexity of flavors, but also tremendous staff who's happy and helpful and eager to please.
