Quick, quiet and quaint! This place does not pretend to be anything it's not. In a world full of overpriced "coffee", trendy pop music at an uncomfortable volume, and sandwiches that come in a plastic sleeve, Cafe Ah-Roma is a refreshing change of pace. The coffee is affordable, strong and available in sizes I don't have to learn a new language to remember. The breakfast sandwiches (I had the Cleveland Bagel Ah-Roma) are simple, ready in 5 minutes, and dont deconstruct upon consumption. The quiet atmosphere is conducive to productivity, be it a quick editing session, mental health break, or study block before classes. The staff is always extremely friendly, accommodating, and well educated on their menu, a menu that provides variety without trying to do so much that quality is affected. I've never had a bad meal here! Are you looking for that hole in a wall - great tier cafe food (without the dinginess associated with hole in the wall places)? This is definitely it for Cleveland. The food always smells delicious and the drinks are actually divine. I've found that no matter who serves (there seems to be a lot of students), the quality and consistency is pretty even. If you ever feel incredibly brain-dead from a long day of studying or just are craving something to satisfy your sweet tooth, I recommend the Iced Mocha. It's basically glorified sweetened chocolate milk, but it will immediately give you a lift and keep you going all day. It's addicting. There's almost always fast and pleasant service as well as plenty of seating. Not sure if there's anything namely unique about their food, but I'd say this is the best light food/coffee place I've ever had. Only thing that mildly sucks is that there's only minimal street parking as it's almost always full. read more

That's feisty chicken wrap was bust'in man. I'm by far not a fan of mushrooms at all nor feta cheese but this wrap contained it all and I am a fan of it. The spicy feta and mushrooms complimented the wrap so well along with the flavored tomato basil wrap itself. Going to a cafe and NOT reviewing the coffee seems odd--I know, but I really don't think this is the place for bean connoisseurs anyways. Here's my take: I have never been to this cafe, but I let my intern pick a place near CSU campus that would be easier for him to pop into for a meeting between classes. When he picked Cafe Ah-Roma I made these assumptions without even looking at the Yelp reviews: 1) It's a campus cafe 2) It will be busy 3) There will be lots of quick food items for lunching students on the go 4) And there will most likely be plenty of seating and outlets for school work 5) This is not a fancy cafe, nor will it likely boast house-roasted arabica bean pour overs or $8 fancy espresso drinks 6) The coffee drinks will be geared towards your average, young adult/ student, who's in for the caffeine, not the recognition of buying the most expensive, fancy, local coffee in town. All of those things were correct. Does it make this place bad? Not at all. In fact, it seemed quite popular amongst students of all sizes, shapes, etc. It was PACKED midday on a Tuesday, but there were still places to sit and plug in. I had a plain coffee, which was tasty, and a veggie sandwich. They have plenty of healthy and not-so-healthy lunch items that are made to order quickly. If you're looking for a sophisticated, brag-worthy, snobby coffee experience--we've got plenty of local joints around CLE that will tickle your fancy. But if you're coming here for a place to grab a quick caffeine jolt, a hot sammie or healthy wrap and some space to group-study with fellow CSU students? This is right up your alley. P.S. Can the City of Cleveland PLEASE--FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY--get on board with CSU's awesome parking meter system?! This is a classic college coffee shop. It's so cozy even with the hustle and bustle of students on their laptops, reading books, working on group projects, etc. I got chamomile tea and a "Cleveland" bagel (tomato basil bagel with egg, bacon, and cheese) for around $5.50. Everything is fairly priced too which is refreshing for college students. I saw a salad on the menu for $7ish and wraps at around $3-$4. I have to say that Cafe Ah-Roma is by far my favorite spot for coffee and a quick bite to eat. They have a full range of wraps and salads as well as some quick breakfast items like bagel w/eggs. They also offer cookies, scones, and a few other sweet treats. The coffee is outstanding and is 100% fair trade. The atmosphere of the cafe itself can't be beat, it's a relaxed, visually appealing place to do some work, chat with friends, or just decompress. In addition, in warmer weather there's outdoor seating in the patio/garden right next to Trinity Cathedral, it's just a great space. I've been a customer of the cafe now for years and it is still my favorite of anywhere I've ever been. Two trips , two botched coffee orders. And no, I didn't order some moccachino half-caff, part skim, no foam, frou-frou frappe. All I wanted was an iced skim latte. (and she wouldn't give it to me!!! ) The first time, it was disgustingly sweet!! Huh? The second time, when I asked for no sugar, although I'm at a loss as to why they put sugar in there in the first place, I got--just as much sugar. Yeeeech. "That's the way we make them" I was told. Not a fan. I was excited about the prospect of a local coffee shop when I moved nearby. Unfortunately, Ah-Roma didn't live up to even my lowest expectations. Nearly every time I go, they mess up my coffee order. Want syrup in your drink? Be prepared to have more syrup than coffee. I suppose that's better than tasting their horrible coffee, though. Don't look at Cafe Ah-Roma as a coffee shop - you won't find it touting fancy brands. Don't look at Cafe Ah-Roma as a date night out - you won't find it open late nor table side serving. Cafe Ah-Roma is really a neighborhood small eatery mainly for quick lunch-on-the-go sort of place. They have extensive menu items from breakfast sandwich to lunch time Soups, Salads, Wraps,and sandwiches. The dishes are standard affair and your order is assembled fresh. My favorite on their menu is Red Pepper Hummus wrap - a perfect blend of bite & hummus with lettuce, tomato bundled in a wrap. Fountain drinks that offer free refills as well as coffee drinkers can go back during the same day for free refills. The prices range from $5 - $10. The staff are always friendly and greet you with a smile as you enter. The crowd tend to be calm & quiet. They offer free wi-fi. The seating is limited (even though they have a porch section) where people are allowed to smoke - this is problematic in summer time, having to walk through the smoke to get inside. read more

Eh it's convenient. I usually stop here to grab a tea after I get off work and have to go to class. There's nothing really that special or unique about it. They have a pretty decent tea selection and one flavored coffee everyday. The big chocolate chip cookies are good. I like the spicy feta turkey wrap, but 3 bucks for half a wrap is pretty expensive. This cafe is in close proximity to Cleveland State, which makes it a great place to have meetings for my staff team and supervisor. Pretty standard cafe with coffee and bagel/egg/cheese sandwiches for breakfast. It's clean with free wifi and a great view of Euclid / passing students. Interesting crowd that passes through and by the cafe. Sitting in this coffeeshop inspires me to be a student again! If you park in the Trinity parking lot, you can validate your parking at the desk inside using your Cafe Ah-roma receipt. You can stay at the cafe for about 2 hours if you want validation. The whipped cream is so good, do not skip that on top of your drink! This coffee shop is a nice tucked in spot to hit when all the CSU campus coffee locations are closed (unless you don't care about affordability always choose this over CSU campus coffee). Coffee is strong, staff is friendly, plenty of seating for you and your colleagues to meet or work. The hours change in the summer when school is not in session, which stinks because it closes a bit early for my liking :( read more

Let me just start off by saying that the coffee here is BAD. Not just tolerable, not just mediocre, it's downright bad. The drip coffee always tastes burnt, don't bother ordering anything steamed because they oversteam it every time, and even the iced coffee doesn't taste cold brewed (tastes like old coffee they put over ice). The bakery is below mediocre, seems like some defrosted or day old baked goods they put in a glass case. That being said, this is just about the only place around CSU campus that you can go for a quiet-ish lunch/coffee, and the staff has always been very friendly and gave me good service. The soups aren't bad, and I can definitely tolerate the lunch options. This place does good business simply because there aren't many other options (the rude Aramark staff in the CSU Student Center, no thanks! the rowdy crowds at Rascal House- nope!) but they should definitely consider making some improvements- namely the COFFEE! For a place called "cafe-ah-roma" you'd think they'd at least get that right. In the meantime, I'll continue to stop in here occasionally because of convenience, but by no means would recommend to an out of towner or visitor. read more

Attended a campus tour at my alma mater - CSU - over the weekend with a friend's relative who is considering moving to the CLE to go to college. While she was attending a lecture on student aid I dropped into Cafe Ah-Roma for a quick breakfast. I ordered what turned out to be a surprisingly fresh bagel. Upon first glance, I was certain it would be one of those super hard, barely defrosted, fresh from the freezer types, but I'm pretty sure this bagel was baked the day I ate it. Service was fast, but how many people hang out at a CSU coffee shop on a Saturday? I'd definitely go back if I happened to be in the area for lunch. They had multiple vegetarian items on their menu. It also seemed like a nice non-chain alternative to some of the other coffee shops in the area. read more

I was really happy when I came in, ready to eat lunch and do some work on my laptop. Over ten dollars later, and I cannot even connect to the internet. There was a man behind the counter who said he would restart it. It still would not work. When I said something to the staff the response was literally "Oh our internet is janky. It never works." I was told to try on my phone. Not only did it not work on my phone, but I cannot do work on my phone! What kind of coffee shop does not even have internet access. I live in the dorms next door to the cafe and, when in serious need of a cheap, filling meal, always make sure to stop here. Their sanwiches and wraps are always a safe bet as are their bagels. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of their espresso drinks. The actual house coffee is good, but their lattes lacked that special something. Still, this is a great place to take a friend, eat a quick meal, and enjoy the relaxing environment or abuse their free wifi. read more

Not a great place, in my opinion. Been here twice: once to order coffee and once at lunchtime. Coffee order was botched. I asked for a cafe mocha and was given a chilled mocha. When I pointed that out to the person (politely!) behind the counter, she was unapologetic and obviously annoyed. She made it for me in silence, and then without making eye contact, stuck it on the counter in front of me and walked away. Second time I went at lunchtime and ordered a hummus wrap. Worst wrap I have EVER had - it literally fell apart when I took the wrapping paper off. My suspicion was that since all the associates were too busy looking at a video on the cashier's phone, the person making my wrap didn't take the time to actually WRAP all the ingredients together. What I got was gobs of hummus, one piece of tomato and random lettuce pieces spewing out of a ripped shell. The worst part? It cost over 3 bucks for a half! Shotty customer service, sub-par products and prices that are not competitive. I would rather go to subway or grab a wrap at the student's center. Will not return. A shame because I liked the location - very pretty patio space in the spring/summer. read more

At the Prospect entrance a sign posted by Trinity Cathedral announces that Cafe Ah-Roma serves food and drink for the soul. Judging Cafe Ah-Roma as a coffee house is equivalent to judging Kim Kardashian on her IQ. A cafe is what Starbucks has been trying to be for over a decade. It fails. Business publications report It is trying again by serving boxed small portion lunches. Cafe Ah-Roma is a neighborhood cafe serving fresh and above average fare. What a neighborhood it is with CSU, Trinity, the YMCA, condos, and an RTA transit center. Customers range from CSU professors, Trinity persons of the cloth, students, jocks, and all the others who belong to these large institutions. Most come for a quick bite or for take out. This is not a place to sit for hours with a laptop as seating is limited. This is not the place for those who count how many customers are over 55 years old. Coffee is not the raison d'etre. I am in this area several times a week. I have found this cafe a perfect fit for the neighborhood. In at least 100 visits I have not had my order mixed up, nor have I ever had anything that was not fresh. The staff members are quick and good humored. The chicken salad is excellent. I usually get it on top of one of their very good garden salads. In the summer the outdoor seating shares Trinity's beautifully landscaped garden. I can understand why some may not be impressed with Cafe Ah-Roma as it is like Cleveland, not trendy and too diverse for those seeking the comfort of homogeneity. This is the second Cafe Ah-Roma, the original is in Berea. However, this is really their "flagship store." The owners really threw their heart and soul into creating a space. Where as I find the Berea store cold and cafeteria-like, I think this Euclid Ave location has a cool vibe. Howerver, the atmosphere isn't as cool as it could be. I fell that it is still being pulled in two-different directions. Is it a coffee cafe or a lunch cafe? I want to know! I think that if the owners decide on that, the vibe will improve, as well as quality of food and service. read more

2.5 Stars. This is a nice little cafe with coffee, wraps and sandwiches next to (or on) Cleveland States campus. I had the red pepper hummus wrap and it was fresh tasting and tasty. The coffee was average at best but I didn't really care that much. The food is pretty simple...they are really just putting ingredients together...not much cooking involved. But even despite that it was still a nice wrap. They seem to make a reasonable attempt at providing health conscious food.
