Rising Star is always the boldest and most flavorful part of my day. I'm Rising Star addict in general with this store being among my faves locally. It's a very popular destination in Hingetown (Ohio City) for a good reason. Coffee: Whether you're getting a cup or beans to go, both deliver delicious flavors. The brand has an actual coffee buyer expert who procures the beans from coffee farms across the globe. I did tell him that he has the coolest job at one of the RS events! Back to the coffee, I usually get specials (will run you around $4-6) or my traditional cold brew or iced coffee ($4-6). I always appreciate that the coffee here is consistently well prepared, strong, and flavorful. I always know that I'll be very awake for all life's adventures. SERVICE: Service is always good and quick. Employees all have very cool eclectic looks, which just elevates the experience. LOCATION: This cafe is right by Hingetown hot spots including the Transformer Station. You can drop in after cycling at the Harness Cycle or after checking out nearby City Goods. Parking can be found on the street, at the Transformer Station, and at the nearby apartments (parking garage) Church and State. This location has been wildly popular during the last few weekends I was there - long lines. I'd stand in a mile long line for Rising Star though, doesn't bother me. Check out this location to socialize inside (open space and cool wood accents) or outside (historic Hingetown views on the patio). You'll love it here either way! read more

Random google find before the aquarium and it didn't disappoint for coffee. I had the vanilla bean latte with oat milk and it was fabulous! The boys had mochas and my girl had a hot cocoa. We were a little sad at the holiday time there were no pastries or breakfast items but I took that into consideration. Cute old fire station and had a kids movie on the tv! I'm a coffee shop gal, and I'm a definite sucker for a tiny one, so I was happy to see that Rising star was located on the street level of the hotel I was overnighting in. It's unassuming, and everyone moves really quickly inside, but don't let that deter you! The baristas are happy to assist with the menu, or provide suggestions. I love that it's vegan-ish, and they make sure to ask of your like whole milk, or a substitute. I ordered a matcha latte, which comes unsweetened, but there are several choices if you aren't a fan of the bitter taste of matcha. Those choices were: honey, lemon, & lavender. These are an additional charge (noted on the menu, but no price listed). They also have a variety of vegan baked goods, such as chocolate, vanilla, or blueberry lemon scones, poppyseed bagels, plain bagels, cookies, & brownies. I opted for the blueberry lemon scone, but if I'm being honest, it had zero taste. It was like eating... dried tofu. I wasn't a fan, but I'm sure someone else would like it! They have ample indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a few benches. The small space is expertly used, so you don't feel crowded waiting for your order, and you can study or have private conversations. One thing that threw me off, is they don't put a lid on your drink. I quickly understood why: so that you could customize it at the counter opposite the pickup area, if you'd like to add other sugars, or creams. Visited for the first and last time. I like coffee, not a tease. Cups were way too small and there were no other size options. I also didn't like that my coffee was not hot. I honestly don't remember the staff, which means there was little to no interaction. This coffee shop has such a warm, welcoming vibe. The baristas are always friendly and they rotate seasonal frequently. There is plenty of seating which makes it great for working or catching up with friends. And the old fire station doors opening in the spring on summer is a huge bonus. This is also the most superior coffee around. They roast their own beans and therefore they are different in terms of their freshness. I ordered a pour-over and it was very smooth with no bitterness. First time at this Rising Star location. Drink: I ordered the Vanilla Bean iced latte. If it's iced, you'll get it in a 16 oz cup. They don't fill the cup with too much ice, which I appreciate. Not super sweet but I can tell that the flavor is in there. Price point is around what I have paid at other coffee shops. I would get it again. Aesthetics: I love earthy toned decor with some plants and windows. If millennial pink was the color of the 2010s, I feel like coffee shops having green plants is the post-Covid cafe aesthetic. If you are a recovering millennial hipster, you might like this place. It is the kind of place where a manbun could unironically thrive. Environment: some coffee shops are set up for folks to work, and some are set up for folks to sit and chat or to stop by for the caffeine. This is definitely a sit and chat neighborhood spot coffee shop. If you do come here to work, the round tables are not near any electric outlets so come fully charged. I personally don't like sitting on a stool to do work, but if that's okay with you, there are two side tables with metal stools for seats. The chairs at the table may have a size limit, so be aware of that if you or someone in your group might desire more room in a chair. There is also outside seating too. Rising Star Coffee Roasters is such a blessing to Cleveland. It's one of the only high-quality, consistently good coffee in the area. One thing they could do is come up with more interesting seasonal drinks and flavors. I usually end up ordering a standard vanilla latte. It can get quite loud in this location given the crowdedness in the small space. The line also gets long on weekend mornings. Pastries are from Blackbird Baking company in Rocky River, and are a nice addition to a strong coffee. read more

This is my kind of coffee shop in Downtown Cleveland. I've tried their cappuccino, pour over coffee, non dairy almond milk mocha, everything bagel w/ vegan cream cheese, and their croissant. Everything was outstanding, and the baristas really know what they're doing. How can you not have a good morning when the baristas are jamming out to September and making a hot cup of joe? This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Cleveland, from the vibes to the people to the coffee. I absolutely LOVE how it's in an old firehouse. They still have the fire poles and garage and it's literally the cutest. The people who work here are so like and funny. I also love the unique way everyone dresses here. Hipster vibes are my favorite. They also make great recommendations here and are straight up honest about it all. They have indoor seating which is super cute and outdoor seating to enjoy the views of the area. There's also a cute little museum across the street and another area to sit with chairs and tables along with a teeter totter and slide. The coffee is pretty good. Very friendly staff, nice space, quality coffee and a good selection of pastries. I had a cortado and an espresso. The espresso was a little sour, but generally tasty. The texture was great and there were hints of fruit flavors as well as some nuttiness and brown sugar-y sweetness. The in cafe service with the demitasse, sparkling water and tiny brass spoon on a bamboo tray looks really nice. Same goes for the cortado (except replace the demitasse with a Gibraltar glass). The cortado was delicious. The sweetness in the milk brought out something like a graham craxker and marshmallow sweetness--it made me think of Golden Grahams cereal. Delicious unique lattes and roasts. We had the cardamom latte and the vanilla bean latte with almond milk and they were perfectly flavored. We also had the Vegan maple pecan scone and the blueberry lemon muffin (which my husband really liked because he said it was similar to the consistency of a coffee cake) and they were delicious and satisfying for a good price. Although we ordered for carry out, it's so easy to catch the relaxed and comfortable vibe while waiting in line from the plants and windows. Seating is limited. It's definitely on the smaller side, and there aren't a ton of tables, so be forewarned if you are seeking out a study spot on a busy weekend. Coffee and tea are pretty solid, similar to those at other locations. I always enjoy the seasonal drinks and their iced teas! The massive windows are so lovely, and you definitely had a lot of natural lighting on a sunny day in Cleveland (a rarity in the colder months). read more

Sometimes it can get loud and sometimes the wifi is unreliable, but I now frequent this establishment at least once a week. Rising Star offers good lattes and a large variety of hot tea. These folks really know what they're doing. I've tried about half of their roasts and many of them have been really good. Even their basic Peacemaker blend has always given me wonderfully flavorful cup. I often buy this whole bean roast and use it for AeroPress brewing at home. I visited Rising Star coffee shop during a weekday morning in May 2019. I don't drink coffee so I came to work on my laptop (apply for new jobs) and to simply visit this shop. I arrived before 8am so the early morning work crowd was starting to pile inside a little bit. This is a small location in an old fire station building in Ohio City. The coffee shop has great natural light coming through from the garage. I'm assuming that the garage door is probably closed during the winter months so depending on when you visit, you may not experience the wonderful natural light. If that's the case, sit outside the coffee shop where some tables and chairs are set up. I love the charm of this old firehouse. TEA -- This is almost strictly a coffee shop with only about 3 different tea options. I don't drink coffee so I can't comment on the types pf coffee drinks that they have. The tea I bought when I visited was expensive especially for such a small cup. I ordered the matcha green tea and it costs about $4.50 a cup which is pricey for such a small cup. INSIDE -- The inside space is tight but there is one long table in the center of the room and then there are a few smaller tables. The chairs are not super comfortable but it does the job. There is also one bathroom at the back of the building next to a small office. PARKING -- Street parking only. Overall, this is a good coffee shop but seating is limited. I'll probably come back to try some of their sweets such as brownies and pastries because they look delicious. I am so lucky I stumbled upon this little coffee shop! The lovely Lauren K. recommended a flower shop around the corner and right before I parked my car I thought... wow I could really use some coffee. I turned the corner and viola. The big giant door to Rising Star Coffee was open, and it was like it was waving to me. C'mon in Jayme! All my dreams had come true. After browsing the menu, I walked straight up to the counter and ordered an almond milk latte to go. While they had a lot of cool drinks to try, I was really in the mood for my classic go-to. I took a seat at a table and enjoyed the fresh air while I waited. It was about 9:30 in the morning and there were folks working, reading the paper, it was the perfect coffee shop scene. Key takeaways? There was a ton of natural night, the staff was quick to take care of me, and the fellow patrons were sweet as well. Yesss, CLE is getting hip to the roastery scene! Back in my day, there were NO good places to get coffee and Starbucks locations were few and far between. Fast forward many moons and there are now so many great, small business, independent coffee shops. Rising Star definitely tops the list! Street parking all around and inside + outside seating. The Promise Land latte iced was a real treat (milk, espresso, honey, cinnamon, yum!) and the Cortado was legit.
