What a great grocery store - buy loads here. They have a lot of choices in their grab-and-go area from spring rolls to meatloaf. YUM. Mitchells Ice Cream is also inside this store. I enjoyed the wine station. You purchase a "wine by the glass" smartcard and can have a taste or whole glass of a myriad of wines. Turned into a mid-day spontaneous date with my husband here. Wonderful. We discovered some new wines, and it was fun. The employee working in this wine area was a bit grumpy, but did explain the process to us; reluctantly. He may not have been having a super happy day, so I will give him a break. I will still frequent this place despite that, it is that good. read more

This Heinen's Grocery Store at 9th Street and Euclid downtown is in the Cleveland Trust Company built in 1907. I stopped in to view the stained glass dome (not Tiffany). The second floor balcony, where the wine section is located, offers a great view of the dome, the murals, and the rotunda below. I didn't shop other than to get a snack and have a seat in the area below the dome. read more

What a cool place - not only is it a grocery store, but it also has a Mitchell's ice cream inside in addition to some hot food options. The Mitchell's ice cream is the bomb. It's hand dipped, but so soft and Lucious. I opted for the duo of s''mores and pralines and cream and both of there were great. Loaded with graham crackers and chocolate with a perfect marshmallow undertone. And the pralines and cream doesn't get any better. Service was prompt and friendly. There are plenty of tables inside to sit at and enjoy your ice cream. Make sure you check out the grocery store as well. read more

How I wish I had Heinen's in Denver because this was such a complete grocery store with exceptional service. I liked it so much during a weekend business conference that I returned the next day! Thankful to the wonderful staff at the Cleveland Downtown Westin for their recommendation. It's one of the must-visit spots in downtown Cleveland, and now I know why. Housed in a landmark former bank building that was empty for 20+ years, Heinen's created an outstanding shopping experience, an oasis in the heart of downtown Cleveland. They had everything I was looking for: lots of fresh produce, food and snack options, and beverages; they also featured an adjacent food court with exceptional options and a lot of seating to enjoy. Their ceiling in the food court was incredible, a view that was remarkable and so spectacular. I loved the sushi, sandwiches, and salads. Security is visible at all times. Neat place to visit when downtown. Interesting variety of lots of food items make this a complete grocery. Prices are a bit high, so large quantity shopping may not be the ticket. Go upstairs by elevator. There is wine and beer tasting. You can load a card and drink leisurely. The bartender at the small tasting bar can answer questions. The beer selection is good with lots of CLE craft beers and more. The wines are from Ohio and around the world. Downstairs under the glass dome are tables where you can eat a snack or meal, or used to meet up and hang out. This good-sized store, with a large regular grocery attached, is a wonderful gem for everyone. read more

Someone told us we had to visit this store and we are grateful we did. The architecture is amazing and we loved the wine bar setup on the 2nd floor. Even came back the next day to use the rest of the credit on our card and added more. Didn't do any actual grocery shopping other than a bottle or two of wine to take away but the prices were very reasonable for that. This is a must do if you are visiting the area. read more

I was compelled to visit while staying nearby for business. Heinen's is listed on one of the top 10 things to do in Cleveland so why not? It's in an old bank building, great views and quite unique. The first floor are the staples. Up a level you'll find prepared items and more. A salad bar? Great!, soup bar? Yes! Pastries? Yes!.....Monday through Friday. I was here on a Saturday. Missed all that. Second level has wine tasting and beer. You buy a card downstairs for $3 then add money and the wines are self serve with the card. Great concept but I looked at the samples and there's nothing you can't find mostly anywhere else across the country. One red Boudreaux caught my eye but no employees were on the second floor so I could purchase a card, load it, then sample the one wine I was interested in. I had high hopes the wine tastings would be interesting. Sadly not, except the aforementioned wine. Certainly wasn't worth going back downstairs, standing in line, buying a card, loading it, going back upstairs to try one particular wine. Beer selection is ok. I chose a local brew. All in all it's quite a unique environment. Quite disappointing on weekends with salad bar etc closed. I could see the appeal if everything was open but closing the fresh bars for weekends was disappointing. read more

I just love Heinen's. Definitely the most beautiful store I've been in. We first came about 5 yrs ago. Every time we return to Cleveland we stop in. The main floor is stocked with pretty much all the groceries you need. Fresh Produce, Meats, Fish, Pantry items. There is a nice selection of pre-made food with a Salad Bar, Soups, Sushi and Delicious Desserts. However; take the elevator or stairs up to the next level for the best part..... The View. Did you think I was going to say Wine? Truthfully yes, the wine and the view. You can buy a card that you add money to. It allows you to taste and try some great wines from their self serve machines. Or maybe just a glass of your favorite. You can choose whether you just want a small taste, half a glass to a full glass of Wine. Red, White, Rose. There is tons of seating to enjoy with friends while you drink or just get in some alone time while looking at the magnificence of the ceiling. Still have a few dollars left on my card so I will definitely be back! read more

Such a beautiful building! Not only a grocery store with vast food options but it's great for a lunch break. They have many options for lunch allowing you to recharge before heading back to work. The grocery store it self had amazing produce options and decently priced for the quality. On the second floor we were able to experience the wine tasting! $20 for two people goes a long way for the wine tasting. Gerard was our wine helper and he was AWESOME! He answered any and all questions we had about the wine and even about Cleveland! Since we were from out of state he gave us great history about the store along with his favorite wines. As we explored we noticed there was another part where they had the meat. It opened up to a marketplace with hot foods, ice cream and wine options on the second floor. Love this Downtown Heinen's the store is the perfect size! The food isles, fruit & vegetables look absolutely beautiful! Let's not forget the meat/ seafood department the display cases are so inviting along with all the prepared foods to go, the most delicious bakery and my favorite area The Rotunda where you'll find the most beautiful wine displayed and readily to drink! So much pride is put into this store. The staff are always ready to answer your questions and so very helpful! Most of all they love my little Frenchie Hugo god knows I can't be without him. I finally visited Heinen's grocery store at the downtown Cleveland location in late June 2019. I happened to be in the Tower City area so I stopped over during lunch since it was about a 8 min walk away. I recommend that you come visit this historic building that used to be the Cleveland Trust Company. The inside is beautiful and reminds me of a State Capitol building or an old church. The glass dome ceiling is beautifully designed and filled with patterns. LAYOUT + FOOD -- This downtown grocery store is huge. The first floor is filled with all the food you want including hot foods, salads, sushi, hot soups, fruits, etc. The food is super expensive though. I bought a small container of 4 or 5 pieces of shrimp that costs $4.20 total. It was $19.99/pound so yes, that price is high. The 1st floor has plenty seats as well. The second floor has alcohol including wine. There is also seating upstairs on the 2nd floor. The third floor space is used for events. Apparently there is also a basement (with a bar maybe) that is used by the hotel next door - the Metropolitan at the 9. The grocery selections on the first floor are quite limited so you most likely won't be able to do your full grocery shopping here. I wouldn't shop here for groceries or even buy lunch/dinner here due to the high cost. Heinen's prices are similar to Constantinos Market on west 9th street downtown. If you have the budget to shop here then sure, come here once a week or so. It gets busy here during lunch but service was reasonably quick. Just a short walk from the Downtown Marriott, we really enjoyed out visit to Heinan's. Yes, it's a grocery store, but to call it just a grocery store is immensely unfair, It reminded me a lot of Grand Central Market in NYC. Check it out- they have a gigantic salad bar, a soup bar, a big bakery, beer and wine sections with as many choices as your favorite liquor store, big deli, prepared foods, sushi, enormous produce section, dairy and cheeses, Large meats and seafood counters, and yes...aisles and aisles of grocery and frozen food choices. If you aren't entertained just strolling the building (a gorgeous domed two-story re-purposed bank building) you have something wrong with you. We got a kick out of the wine lounge where you can get a glass of wine from a self-service vending machine! We picked up a few spiked seltzers, a cold brewed coffee cocktail, a bag of low carb pasta, and some sandwiches for the road. Man oh man, did we love Heinan's ! read more

So sad this cause this place could be wonderful but it was very sparse. I know Cleveland is not the greatest city but they should make it more attractive more product in this place so people will come to it. Few grocery stores these days focus on making grocery shopping a delightful experience. Most focus on lowering the cost by any means possible, and in the process squeeze the joy out of shopping. Sure, you can get enough calories to survive by going to a Kroger or Aldi, but do you look forward to going there? At most, you might look forward to what you'll cook with what you buy, but the austere shelves, fluorescent lights, dirty floors, and persnickety self-checkouts of most American grocery stores are hardly enticing. Heinen's is among the few grocery stores that make me simply want to wander its aisles, see what wonders I might discover that will inspire me to cook things I hadn't even thought of cooking. There might not be seventy varieties of factory-produced bread like at Meijer, but they have the first store-brand wheat bagels that have not left me wishing I'd bought cinnamon or blueberry. They have fish, cheeses, meat, quality produce, dairy, and castelvetrano olives. Imported baked goods of the type that Keebler and Nabisco can't even dream of. A well-above-average tea selection for a store of their size. And Mitchell's, Jeni's, and Graeter's ice creams - no more need to risk my favorite Cincinnati ice cream melting on a drive up from Columbus. All this is in a fairly tightly packed, but uplifting environment. No giant shopping carts rolling down aisles, this is a carry-a-basket-and-buy-things-for-the-next-few-days store, well-lit, and with a gorgeous food court/rotunda area. Wandering around simply admiring the atmosphere under the rotunda, an employee asked me if I needed help at the fish counter - not that time, but I'm sure I will in the future. I live right next to Dave's and I'm sure I'll continue to go there occasionally for that ingredient I forgot to buy, but Dave's doesn't spark joy and encourage me to cook in the way Heinen's does. Service is also top-notch. All checkouts are operating by real people, and they even check to see whether any eggs have broken before putting a rubber band around the egg package. What other grocery store does that? And why don't egg packages come with rubber bands by default? The (quite efficient) cashier was also happy to answer my question about how to access the second floor (and the wine and beer section) on my next visit. Prices are probably not your first priority if you are shopping at Heinen's, but they didn't give me the sticker shock that I had feared they might. They're broadly capable to a Giant Eagle Market District or to Dave's in Ohio City. Honestly, living in the city, that's worth not having to drive out to a mass-market store in the suburbs, or taking the bus to Steelwood Commons to shop at Target. Sure, I'll still pick up a couple boxes of 99-cent spaghetti when I'm out there to buy laundry detergent, but for my regular once-or-twice-a-week grocery trip, I'll either be going here or the West Side Market. Finally, I'd be remiss not to mention that it's great to have a grocery store downtown. A lot of cities, even sizeable ones like Columbus, lack a truly downtown grocery store. Heinen's is right by the bus lines along Euclid, and a short walk to Public Square where busses to nearly anywhere can be caught - at least when there isn't a Superman film being shot there. And if you drive in? There's free parking (whose location I did not check) if you spend at least $50, according to signs posted within the store. All said, a gem of a store, I hope it continues to be successful, and I will be making the detour on my way home from work to shop there again in the future. read more

Heinen's was a late discovered GEM for me while living in Cleveland. My boyfriend at the time lived close to it so we walked over once and lo and behold: it's actually pretty big inside! They didn't have a huge selection of produce but what they did have was pretty good quality (and pricier than your other standard grocery stores eg giant eagle or even Dave's). They also had rarer grocery items (eg whole fennel). It kind of reminds me of Whole Foods inside, but smaller. They had a lot of fancier grocery items too, eg this is where I came to get heart of palm (canned) and fresh cream/mascarpone since they had locally made brands. They also had a lot of pre-prepped food that was QUITE good, eg sushi and " vegan chicken." I had this food multiple times and it was always great! And also: this is the only place I've seen and been able to buy the Flying Embers brand seltzers that include the elderflower flavor and the cherry flavor (those are my favorites!). The cashiers were also usually really nice (or if not then neutral). This was easily one of my favorite grocery stores in Cleveland, I wish they were located in other states too. read more

In the revitalized downtown core of Cleveland, Heinen's stands out for its beautiful and historic architecture, as well as its selection of delicious and healthy food options. As a former denizen or Cleveland, I knew that Heinen's was a local gem. On evenings when I was running late or feeling a little lazy, I would swing by the deli for dinner, and pick up something else on the side. I recently visited Cleveland again in the spring, and it remains one of the Midwest's best-kept secrets. It's a town steeped in history with beautiful old architecture and a very affordable cost of living. Right in the heart of downtown is a Heinen's store, which offers the same selection of fresh and unique groceries in a part of town that can often be a food desert. The building itself, the former Cleveland Trust bank rotunda, offers a beautiful setting for doing some relaxed grocery shopping. I left with some coffee from Great Lakes Coffee Roasting company, and some snacks for the road, as well as a strong urge to come back and visit soon. I've been to Heinen's numerous times and written numerous reviews. For some reason, yelp is no longer showing my Heinen's reviews. So I'll write another one. I usually go to Heinen's for lunch, but I've been to a wine tasting in the evening as well. At the time, the wine tasting was $20 per person and you could sample as many wines as your heart desired. And that, I did! I visited with my wife and in-laws and we enjoyed some tasty appetizers along with white and red wines. For lunch, I almost always get the chicken bowl, Chipotle style. They have a wider variety of toppings than Chipotle and it only costs a dollar more at Heinen's. They have things like edamame, tatziki, three different slaws, curry sauce - you name it. The flavors are delicious, the quality of the food is excellent. You can get a healthy, tasty lunch at heinen's for $7.99. And there is free water upstairs. Did I mention the ambiance? This is probably the most beautiful grocery store I've ever visited. read more

We were at the downtown Heinen's store on December 22 and saw two dogs in the store. One was approximately 3 ft , long hair. The other was a smaller dog. It appeared that the larger dog was very close to the baked goods, although I couldn't determine whether the dog was actually sniffing the items. These dogs were apparently not service animals. They did not appear to be trained as such and there were no vests or anything else designating them as service animals. Having these dogs in the store is an apparent violation of federal, state and local laws and regulations. Hopefully, Heinen's will address this issue. We left the store shortly after noticing the dogs. read more

Oh man, this Heinen's is so COOL! The Heinen's downtown is unlike any I have been to before. It's in a fully renovated historical dome structure and it is beautiful. There are two levels to this place and they make very good use of the space. The first level has all of your grocery needs, including fresh meats and fish, produce, a full freezer section, and then there's an area for made to order foods. The made to order section is what brings me there for lunch and what they have is nothing shy of fantastic. I especially enjoy their Argentinian steak bowl. It's a wonderful combination of salad, steak, Peruvian pickles, and feta cheese. I think of this bowl quite regularly as lunchtime is approaching... (I swear I'm not addicted... I could stop at any time... Stop staring at me!) You can also grab a quick packaged sushi to go that they assemble constantly with nice variety. The second level is your gateway to a wonderful world of wine and craft beer... I know, right!?! They have amazing wine dispensers if you want to drink some on site as well as plenty of bottles to take home. The craft beer appears to be quite plentiful with some in and some out of a refrigerated section. They also have some beer on tap along with happy hour specials, too! With all of this in the most metropolitan section of downtown, you have to check it out. read more

The cutest grocery store with a great unexpected twist- a wine tasting on the 2nd floor. The rotunda is just beautiful! Lots of fresh veggies. I get items for my charcuterie boards here. Wish they had more jams but their selection is do-able. There isn't parking so you'll have to find metered street parking. Employees are always nice and friendly. They're dog friendly but I would also say the customer pups were all very well behaved. Such a great place. I've even taken friends who visit. read more
