Extremely overpriced! A salad consisting of just tomatoes, cucumber and bell pepper with 5 strips of chicken was $24. I mean are you for real? The amount of cucumber that even came with the salad was probably one cucumber total which costs $3-4 and I'm being very generous. And a full large tomato. With some bell pepper strips not even equally a full bell pepper??? And the lamb euro as seen in the picture was almost $30? And not even vegetables to add to it. Never coming here again. So this is a tough one bc our in house lunch was, (without vibe and we were like 1 of 3 tables during lunch on a Saturday) nice. We both agreed that the portions were very small, but the food was flavorful and the service was nice. We also agreed that the prices were pretty exorbitant for the portions. But we still enjoyed the food. Now on that, I should know we had spinach cobra, which came out lukewarm, but had flavor. And then we both had lamb kebab and added the additional Greek salad which used to be included on the plate. OK, well we did it and the dressing was delicious and the food was enough to satisfy a lunch appetite. Still OVERPRICED. BUT HERE'S WHERE THE TROUBLE STARTS IS WHEN WE WENT TO ORDER DINNER TO BE DELIVERED THROUGH DOORDASH. I called two times to inquire about adding a second kebab to a dinner entrée. They did not have the extra kebab option highlighted so the manager was really nice and went online and changed the options so that we were able to order that. My head is off to him. He was very nice. However, we ordered two dinners and an additional kebab that was $20 for four dry shrimp. we ordered calamari as a starter, which we knew would be compromised because of the delivery time, but we still went for it and we were shocked to see what came in the box. I will upload a photo and I promise you we did not touch one single piece of this order before taking the photo. It's embarrassing. And the calamari was about $20. Not only did I add the Greek salad in addition to my lamb dinner and extra kebab which came out to over $45... but the meal was missing the rice. And the Greek salad had no lettuce. My friends dinner had a salad, but was mostly lettuce and very little of anything else that would be in a Greek salad. The spanakopita was so dry and cold. Again, we understand that and having food delivered, it is going to be necessary to reheat. But this was beyond that. Seemingly like it was from the day before. I tried to call back because I was very frustrated and their phone system apparently has a problem that I had encountered earlier that day where the hostess or whoever answered the phone kept saying I can't hear you. I can't hear you... Blah!! F it. I decided to call back later, but I still have not called. We are visiting from out of town and at this point it seems like a moot point. They overcharged us and under delivered to see the least. The meal was dry and awful. The lamb kebab from lunch two days before was nothing like what we experienced at the restaurant. The serving portion of rice in my friends order was so me it was laughable. My meal had no rice at all. And my Greek salad had no lettuce. The entire order came out to over $140 with tip and tax and we were just mortified. The sad thing is that so many restaurants and businesses are having to overcharge and under deliver due to the current economy. I would give this place three or four stars if you plan to eat in house, but zero stars if you were to consider delivery. That said, I wouldn't do either one of these things because of the pricing. Gyro was good. Seriously, a decent gyro at a good price. Happy hour deal $18 for a Gyro and a beer. The staff was great- greeted and treated! Two reviews: one for the food we got, and one for the food we hoped it would be. What we got: There is nothing wrong with the preparation of this meal. Pita was soft, potatoes well cooked, the veg was crisp and fresh. As a whole it was under seasoned. A pinch more salt, add dill in the tzatziki, and Greek oregano to the meat. The meat was in cubes and a bit cool when it arrived, could have been warmer. Potatoes were good, if needing a bit more salt. What I hoped it would be: My first experience with Gyro was in the late '90's in Würzburg Germany. Meat shaved off the cone, lamb and one or two more pork and/or beef. Shredded lettuce, chopped tomatoes, slivers of onion, lots of feta, garlicky dilly tzatziki and some Kalamata olives. That was my continued experience with Gyros until coming to Bellingham. I can't even say if this is more authentic or the other, just that I have been searching for the one, but finding only the other. Imma go back and try something roasted. So, this is a conflict of palate needs for me. So let me break it down: Pros: Nice place, good seats, it was quiet when we were there on. Wednesday at 5. Their dressing is delicious, garlic forward which I love, I believe I could still ward off vampires 90 minutes later. The veg was fresh, great side salad of tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and green bell peppers. I ordered the lamb grilled gyro. The meat was tender, the pita was soft so lovely in general. Cons: everything was under spiced, I didn't taste dill in their zatziki or tzatziki, I didn't taste oregano in their meat, there was too little sauce on the gyro for me l, generally was just meh. It wasn't bad, just wasn't the Greek gyro I go looking for. The rice was well cooked but bland, the potatoes were good, but generally also under spiced. It seemed pale in comparison to some greek food I have had. This all to be said, I ate the food, it was filling, service was great, and everything was cooked well. Just not quite right. I am in love. Love takes time, and so does the food and service here...like a lot of time...but I am in love. Normally I'd subtract a star for the slowness, but I went there knowing it would take time, so it wasn't a negative surprise. They had a deal for a snack plate and bottle of wine for $22, so DUH. But we were hungry still (the snack plate is small, it's four pita triangles, several cubes of feta, a few olives, and a tiny salad). You can get gyros a la carte, so we got the beef and falafel, and we got the lamb souvlaki with lemon garlic potatoes instead of rice. The falafel is more like a disc than a ball, but it was insanely delicious. I also think having them flat allowed for more surface area for the crunch. The beef gyro was tasty, but I'm a sucker for falafels. The lamb itself was perfect. Literally perfect. Big, non stringy, not fatty but enough to be flavorful chunks of lamb that was cooked to absolute medium perfection. Not too much of a fan. The food is OK. I've never dined in but seems like a really nice sit down spot when I go in to pick up my order. It's possible that I am just not a fan of gyros because after a couple visits here I'm never really content with the flavor of my food. Hard to tell as this is the only place I've tried them. My last visit though definitely turned me away as there was a wet hair strand at the bottom of my Greek salad! Bummer! Service for pick up is good! I had a hankering for Greek food and I haven't been here in a while. We ordered chicken slouvaki and spanakopita. They both had lots of flavor. I like my tzatziki creamier than what I had but it had a strong garlic flavor, which I love! I ordered my food over the phone so I didn't eat at the restaurant. The person that took my order seemed to be confused and it seemed like there was some miscommunication. When I arrived the staff were all very friendly. We got our food and we were on our way. Unfortunately, I didn't realize until I got home that I was missing a few things. I was upset because I live 10 minutes away and I drove 10 minutes there and 10 minutes home. When I called them they said they will have the missing food ready when I arrive. I drove there and they did have everything ready and they were apologetic. I totally understand that mistakes happen and they fixed it without hesitating. I was upset I drove around for 40 minutes to get my dinner. I will be back to try more. We're trying out Greek restaurants since our favorite Mykonos closed. I liked the fact that Cafe Akroteri has a dedicated parking lot, something rare in downtown Bellingham. The restaurant interior is very neat and clean. Service was fast and courteous. The menu is limited but our favorites were included. We had the Gyros and an appetizer. The Feta Jalapeño dip appetizer was really good and the pitas that accompanied it were soft and fresh. Our gyros were delicious but the stand out here were the fries. Fresh homemade fries with skins on, fried to a crisp golden brown- best french fried potatoes I've had in a long time. The greek salad was ok. I'm not a fan of raw green pepper so I picked those out and I think it could have used a bit more feta. The dressing was nice. We enjoyed the meal and will be back. read more

There are only two sit down Greek restaurants in Bellingham. I excluded the other "Greek" restaurant because it also serves pasta and all kinds of stuff. Food (2.5 Stars) My 12 year old son and I came here for lunch on a weekday. We shared a beef gyro ($7.95), lamb souvlaki ($13.95), and a baklava ($4.50). The gyro was just average. The souvlaki wasn't bad, but it only came with one skewer with 4 small pieces of meat (my photo). What annoyed me even more is that they serve a piece of garlic bread with souvlaki. Why? The serving size of the baklava was generous. It was not as sweet as it looked but was drenched in honey syrup (no thank you). Service (3 Stars) The waitress was friendly enough. She also did what she had to do as a waitress, but I cannot give her 4 stars ("I'm a fan"). The service was very slow. The restaurant wasn't even busy. We went in during lunch time. When we walked in (12:30), no one greeted us. We had to stare at the "Please wait to be seated" sign for several minutes, which of course felt like an eternity as it was awkwardly long. Trivia: This is one of very few restaurants in downtown Bellingham that have a private parking lot. Make sure to park on their lot, not on the street as your meter will surely expire while eating here! Final Words As much as I would like to support local businesses, my experience here was subpar. This is my go-to spot when I'm not feeling great! Post wrist surgery, all I wanted to eat was their amazing lemon rice soup! I love all their sides so my favorite order is the large soup (which comes with amazing bread and cucumber yogurt sauce), side Greek salad, and side of Greek potatoes. They always have it hot & ready for pick up! If I'm in for dinner, I looove the Shrimp Souvlaki plate. It's a huge amount of food so you could split or have a lovely lunch the next day as well. Pandemic restrictions forced restaurants into limited menus, and breakfast cafes seemed to be weathering the Covid-19 storm the best, at least in downtown Bellingham. That's not what we wanted, and crossing the street for a couple of lamb gyros was an easy choice. We placed our take out order in a forlorn empty restaurant, unfortunately the norm these days. The guy was very pleasant and the ten minute wait spent walking around the block, window shopping, imagining life in Bellingham post virus. I have ordered the chicken souvlaki a few times and have enjoyed it. Their lemon garlic potatoes are good, their feta fries are decent, but their pita bread is bland and the fried zucchini is gross. The quality of service and flavour of items is not consistent. Importantly...I find a Mediterranean restaurant that doesn't offer decent baklava kind of weird. It was so nice to be able to sit outside on the patio, enjoy the day and be safe in the pandemic--so we were very happy it wasn't just "take away" only as we initially thought! Bailey was our server and she was terrific--engaging, informative, thoughtful and careful. The avgolemono soup was lovely, the Greek salad makings very fresh, and the gyros were tasty (though I, personally, like a little stronger flavor than these). The wine pour for retsina was more than generous! The baklava was the thing, though. I've never had anything like this one. Up until now--and I've had a lot of baklava in my life--it's always been delicious, but kind of a compact affair. Akroteri's is a thing of wonder! Today, I was hungry when I should have been eating normal lunch items but instead ducked into a bakery and bought a spanakopita pastry and a piece of baklava, each costing a couple of bucks. I have been thinking about Greek food a lot lately. That, and recently looking at photos, told me that I need to review Cafe' Akroteri in hippiesh, collegiate Bellingham WA. I've only been here once, because it's on one of the main drags in B-ham. However, because driving by on the freeway going to and from Canada does its advertising for it, I have been to Mykonos Greek many times. There is something likable about Cafe' Akroteri. I like the simple atmosphere with the mural type art work and the wooden tables and chairs because they are much like what you'd see in a Greek taverna in Hellas. I had a pita with lamb, which was served with rice, and it was very good. However, the star of the show was a chocolate dipped baklava. I know that this is done with baklava, just like there are cannoli that are filled entirely with chocolate and chocolate shavings, but this was the first time I've tried it. I haven't come across chocolate baklava since, but I'm hoping I will. The service was pleasant and prompt. The price point was right in the ball park for the genre of eatery. They even had an appetizer sampler that was respectively priced, but I was passing through town and in a hurry to woof down some Greek chow. I glanced at the other reviews and one commented on the authenticity of the Greek restos in B-ham. If an eatery is in the mid-range price point, as both Cafe' Akroteri and Mykonos are, I will cut the latter some slack for serving pasta (after all, pastitsio could be considered a Greek pasta dish), given that they have a lounge and we're not in Manhattan or Pacific Heights. In my opinion, Mykonos is G-R-E-A-T and Cafe' Akroteri is G-O-O-D, earning 4 stars. However, I even gave Mykonos 4 stars because I wasn't crazy about their portion control for their lunch prices. Either way, consider yourself lucky to have two very good Greek eateries in such a small area. Annoying Eugene, Oregon, home of that state's flagship university, probably doesn't have two "close enough to authentic" Greek eateries of this caliber. So, if you live in Bellingham, or are spending any time there, you can visit both ... and probably will keep on doing that. That said, Cafe' Akroteri is recommended. read more

One was a large salad, one was falafel bowl, and one was a chicken dish. The chicken dish was fine. The "large" salad was a decent size side salad. Primarily cucumbers, many tomatoes, and a few flakes of feta cheese. Nothing you would ever consider a main dish. The falafel bowl was three incredibly small and flat falafels. We had dinner last night and I was really impressed. We weren't sure if we going to eat inside our on their patio. We quickly opted for the outside patio when the waitress told us that "it's always happy hour (prices) on the patio." Yaaay, sign me up! Everything is cooked to order and it shows. We started with the lemon egg soup and it was amazing; light and bursting with flavor. I love lamb and wasn't disappointed and the roasted potatoes were off the charts with a rich lemony favor. The food here is good, the lamb souvlaki was tender, although not sure if I ordered it wrong it didn't have much pink in the center. The salad and dressing was very good, I could probably drink the dressing! The saganaki (flaming cheese) was good especially with tatziki on top. I wish I had tried the lemon soup it looks yummy. My boyfriend is hard to impress when it comes to gyros but he was very impressed with his gyro. Their version of a hot toddy was my favorite part of the dinner!! It was so good, I slurped it down too fast! Price is a little on the expensive side so be prepared to spend at least $60 for a couple... includes an appetizer, two meals, and I did get the one drink. I think this is common for Greek restaurants. The service was good but the food came out slow. Maybe it is a restaurant where they really want you to stay and enjoy the whole experience, but my bottom hurt from sitting for so long--two hours! The bartender was serving the bulk of the customers as most were sitting in the bar side, I was curious why I didn't see any of the servers from the restaurant side came over to help... not very many customers were on the other side. The restaurant itself is huge! Can accommodate a huge party, both on the restaurant side and on the bar side. It is fairly clean, a little outdated. It is well lit and cozy. Ok, so. Here I am in Beautiful Bellingham(sterland) searching for a good gyro. The primary ingredient in Gyros is made with a ground lamb/beef mixture layered and stacked on a stake (no, I couldn't resist the bit of terrible spot of rhyme) and cooked on a vertical rotisserie from which thin slices are carved to make your gyro. Along with vegetation and sauce of course. Not so at this establishment. I received my lamb gyro made with some kind of (I think) grilled lamb. Not rotisserie. And it was way Overcooked lamb. As in shoe leather comes to mind. I mean it tasted ok, and the pita, vege and sauce were decent, but the meat was close to inedible. Several times.....on different occasions. Moving on to the sides that came with the "gyro"...... The bit of salad was ok albiet not made with my favourite greens. The rice dish was not. It was over garlicked, the rice was undercooked, and in addition to a smattering of vege in the rice, had Lima (or some other large bean) beans once (admittedly, I think Lima beans are disgusting regardless of prep method) And always served Luke warm at best and usually out right cold. Ok then. When questioned politely, the poor waitron one time looked terrified. I may be 183 cm (tall for a gal of my age...or any age) but still, I'm not that bad. I do my darnedest today be nice to waitstaff everywhere, they work hard to put your meal on the table (or in your take away container(s) ) . They aren't responsible for the food, just the delivery there of. Onwards. I realise they likely have other food that is likely good, but I was in search of a gyro. Why did I come back repeatedly you ask? Am I glutton for punishment? No. I just believe in giving a food establishment multiple tries (minimum three, different times and different days of the week). What incredible food. The lamb (I usually hate lamb) was so tender and fragrant with herbs. The chicken was easily the best chicken I've had, moist and tender. Excellent sides. Affordable. So the menu looks great. I'm second generation Syrian and just wanted grape leaves. These were at a glance ok. From the first bite...undercooked. Lemon sauce runny and the dish itself....undercooked,under seasoned and in all terrible. This seems like someone who purchased a restaurant who wanted an investment and has no idea what rolled grape leaves should taste like. Why two stars? Arrived on time on budget. Just finished one of the best lunches I've ever had in Bellingham at Cafe Akroteri today. I had the lamb gyro plate with an iced tea. The tea was beautifully strong and delicious without adding sugar or lemon. The Greek salad was extremely fresh and the feta cheese tasted better than anything I have had near my home in Las Vegas NV. Don't get me started on the deliciousness of the lamb gyro. I ate the entire inside of the gyro by itself as I try to limit carbs. The meat was super flavorful and tender. This might be my go to spot when I visit my corporate office in Bellingham.
