Really stellar sandwiches, and as a dairy-free eater it's always fantastic to find vegan options on the menu! The shop is really cute, the staff was friendly, food was great. My cousin took me here for lunch. I got the Asian Salad Chicken Wrap. Ordering was simple and the cashier was very friendly. The entrance of this sandwich shop was very bright, but a little darker and not as remarkable in the back. We got a seat in the back of the restaurant. My wrap was really big, I didn't expect it to be so big. I actually only ended up eating half of it for lunch and the other half for dinner. It was good with lots of greens and some chicken in it. There were some big chunks of jicama that I think could of been chopped a little smaller, but other than that I really enjoyed my wrap. For years I have continually heard good/great reviews of Leaf &Ladle. For some unknown reason, I have never patronized this establishment. That finally changed and I'm glad that now my portfolio of comfortable restaurants is now expanded. The food and service was great! The ambience... not so much. I was visiting a friend in Bellingham and they recommended I try this restaurant for lunch. It is actually easy to miss from the outside. It is positioned between two shop fronts that also have quite a bit of personality, and is a small shop on its own. Once inside, it is very much a hipster diner. All the staff are my age, the menu has lots of vegan and vegetarian options and variations, so almost any dish can be altered to fit your dietary restrictions. I have some food allergies, and the staff were knowledgeable and accommodating. There were also homemade meals to go and locally sourced options for drinks or to go desserts. The main options are salads, wraps, and salads. The staff were also very friendly and patient with me. The food prep area is also at the front of the building, so you can see as staff prep and serve your food. I always find comfort in seeing the conditions my food is made, and this was some of the most transparent food prep I've seen. There was a dishwashing and refrigerator in the car back, but it was kept in another room. The store is longer than it is wide and built inside of a vintage storefront, so you walk in deeper past the counter and food prep area to get to dining. Staff also informed us that if we are over 21, you can even take your meals next door and sit at the neighboring bar and order drinks. We chose to sit inside the restaurant. It was very intimate and has modest decor. There was quite a lot of variety in the other customers- from families, to young adults hanging out, to elderly couples. The food is also VERY large. I ordered the BBQ pork wrap and it was HUGE. It honestly took work to finish it. Not a lot of places known for burritos even offer food that large. My friend ordered a salad and a few sides, but the salad was so large that it took up the entire 8.5"x11.5" metal tray it came on and they couldn't finish it. I very much felt that I got my bang for my buck here. This restaurant is definitely a modern and hipster take on a local sandwich deli, and I would definitely recommend it if you need something quick and filling. read more

On my last trip to Bellingham, I stopped by here for a bowl of soup and it had such great flavor. Wifey's home sick and wants me to get her soup, so I fire up the trusty Yelp! machine to aid me in my quest. I'm referred to Leaf & Ladle, a place I've never been before, and head on over. I walk up to the door and attempt to enter, and to my dismay, the door is stone cold locked! I look at my phone and it reads 8:43 PM, so I don't understand what I've encountered. Yelp! said they close at 9, Google Maps said they close at 9, hell, even the sign on their door says they close at 9! Hearing the failed attempt to open the door, an employee standing about 15 feet away looks up and makes eye contact, then immediately looks away, then turns her body away. No "sorry", no gesture, no nothing. I'm pretty perceptive and can tell where my money and I are not wanted, so I turn and head back to my car, searching Yelp! as I walk, and come across Culture Cafe - another place I haven't been to... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU SKIP Leaf & Ladle, and head up the street to Culture Cafe. Their Portuguese Soup & Mahi Burger are , their staff polite & attentive, and they appear to remain open for the hours they advertise! read more

We have been going to Leaf and Ladle since the restaurant first opened. The food is always fresh and it does offer a decent variety of dishes. However, if want to order something with the tempeh bacon it only comes in one preparation. So if you do not like the way it is prepared, with coconut and very oily, then you are without an option. But my main reservation about this place is the lack of modern payment methods, I know. that not many retailers use contactless payment, for example Apple Pay, but this restaurant does not even have a chip reader. It is still relying on the magnetic strip reader. As most know, the chip is a great advancement in credit card security. I would say almost all the other places in Bellingham use at least a chip reader and more and more are using contactless, even the taco trucks use ApplePay. My magnetic strip did not work on their reader, although it has on the reader at a local bakery. So I asked to input the credit no# myself, which I did. However, the cashier apparently got an attitude about it. When receiving my order to go, there was no expression, verbal or visual, of gratitude for my patronage of this business, much a thank you. I am therefore hesitant to return and give this place my business. read more

My boyfriend and I bought the cobbler there and it was NOT labeled as a nut product. We took it home and had it for breakfast the following day and about halfway though I started to feel like I was having an allergic reaction. I had my boyfriend take a bite of just the topping and he said it tasted kind of like nuts. I called and was I informed that they use almonds and was then asked if I had asked the person at the register when we bought it if it had nuts and I said no because it should be labeled since it's a common allergen. The salads really are not good, just some bagged greens, not very many of them, and much of the time the greens have been past their prime. Also, the dressing is very heavy, so you can't really taste the salad. The panini I've had have been just OK, the bread itself has been both stale and I suspect frozen, or just stale. The soups have been good. The people working there are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxing. There are simply better places to eat in Bham. read more

On this particular day, I got the vegan special sandwich (served a focaccia, with a butternut squash, kale, and a pesto-tofu ricotta), and a vegan broccoli cheddar soup (total $15.36 after tax). The soup was nicely flavoured, with a fairly gentle cheesiness and plenty of broccoli. This didn't really remind of me classic broccoli & cheddar soups, but I'd liked it for what it was. Amazing vegan options!! Had decently high expectations for this place based on the reviews but it exceeded all expectations! We got the BLTA wrap (gluten free) and the Vegan Italian panini and both were incredible. The BLT wrap had so much filling that it was bursting out of the wrap!! The flavors were amazing and they did the coconut bacon super well. Fill d with super fresh veggies, tempeh and coconut. Their vegan caesar is to die for and the wrap was perfectly dressed. Side salad with balsamic was good too! The Italian Panini was amazing too. The tofu ricotta was super impressive. I'm vegetarian not vegan, and I wouldn't have been able to tell it wasn't real ricotta is no one told me! The food was great and at a reasonable price which made it even better. I adore this place (that I genuinely meant to try out for YEARS). Salads are huge for the cost, and full of awesome veggies/proteins/flavors. Their vegan grilled cheese is BOMB, and there is always a rotating special that will blow your mind. Vegan tempeh is delicious, and perfect in their Asian pork salad as a substitute.
