I was shocked to see the meh reviews for CA. This is my mom's go to for Italian takeout/delivery. I've known about this place for about 30+ years, but I don't recall having a meal there, until yesterday. I ordered the stuffed shells, and even though the shells were tiny, it was very well prepared. The sauce was delicious and very fresh. It had the perfect balance of sauce and cheese. I tasted a bit of their fettucine alfredo, which I really enjoyed. Even with a ton of Italian options in the area, I definitely wouldn't mind trying the rest of the menu. read more

I'm still eating as I'm typing this review. I ordered their lasagna, and WOW--It was a good portion with a lot of cheese and tomato sauce!! And their salad was fresh. My husband had their penne vodka with grilled chicken, and he said that was very good, too. It's nice to have a good Italian restaurant in the neighborhood. read more

I have only had their pizza. The crust is too thick and they have not improved the recipe after selling a few years ago. Of all the local pizzeria options, is the worst tasting pizza. Too much sauce, heavy crust and oily. No comment on service. read more

I am in a blissful, well-fed state as I write this! I could not be happier with my take-out experience from Cafe Amici tonight. The angel hair pasta was great--the marinara sauce was flavorful and not too acidic. The eggplant in the eggplant parmigiana was tender and sliced thin, the breading was light and tasty, and it was cooked to perfection.Everything was so fresh and piping hot. The portion was generous, and just half of it filled me up completely. Everything was packaged securely, so nothing spilled in the car. Also, the restaurant included a generous amount of napkins and plastic utensils. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants in New Jersey are take out only, and different venues have complied with this rule in different ways. I really like how Cafe Amici has arranged for food pick-up. Customers do not enter the building at all, but receive food at a slide through window while standing outside. (See photo) I had called in my order, and gave my credit card number over the phone, so I could just pick up my food and go. The parking lot was completely empty. The food was hot, fresh, and ready in 30 minutes just as promised on the phone. The order was accurate. Cafe Amici is your typical small corner pizzeria. The walls were adorned with various sports posters, mainly baseball, pictures and maps of Italy, a Godfather movie poster and several local sports team plaques. There was an impressive selection at the counter which is usually a good sign. The slices are large and definitley filling. The plain had a tasty, fluffy crust, but the sauce to cheese ratio was off. Too much cheese, not enough of the red stuff. The BBQ chicken was either overcooked or lacking flavor. I would like to try some of the other specialties, but in the meantime, I can say the pizza I had was just average. read more

Mom, John, and I stopped in for quick slices before a concert at the nearby Franklin Township Library last Sunday. Ambiance is minimal...this is mostly a takeout affair. We were pleased that the case offered a selection of (huge) single slices ready to heat, so each of us could order what pleased us. The pizza with the barbequed chicken topping looked tasty - generously loaded with chicken atop a thick layer of cheese - and it was. The chicken pieces were a healthy size, still bustled with moisture, and the sauce was not overly sweet. The traditional crust is on the thick side - but it was crisp on the bottom and edges and evenly baked through. The cheese stayed in place after taking a bite (as opposed to the unhappy pizza experience of topping that all slides off with the first bite). Mom chose a plain slice, John, pepperoni. They were both happy! Amici's features a large pizza size that probably deserves its own zip code. It must be two feet across. The ready-to-reheat pies behind the glass are these beasts. One slice each was plenty for mom and me. John bravely munched through two! They had fresh coffee! We also noticed Chicago Style Deep Dish on the menu and are determined to order one on a visit to mom in the near future. I wavered a little between a four and five star rating (ambiance and utilitarian bathroom dragging down the score a bit). However, my slice of pizza met all the criteria for a five, the guys behind the counter were so nice, and for the size and generosity of the pizza slices, the prices were extremely reasonable. I was in town over the holidays and needed some pizzas for my daughter's birthday party. There are plenty of pizza options in the area but due to proximity to my parents house, we went with Amici. I was a little skeptical since I heard there was new ownership from when I lived in the area and the pizza wasn't the same. Mind you, this was from people who hadn't been there since before the pandemic. I was more than happy with the decision. Everyone at the party raved over all 3 pies- pepperoni, sausage, and cheese. I'm a big Italian food critic. Especially with pizzas. I've been to Patsys, Grimaldis, Krispy pizza in all parts of NY. I say those places are pretty good. This place I've tried 3 times, two deliveries and one sit-in. I just never had that "umph". Its an ok pizza place. Its not one of the best ones I've tried. This has been my #1 pizza place since I moved to Somerset years ago, and I've tried a few. Their other Italian specialties are no laughing matter either--it's just that the pizza is so dope. A close second would probably be the chicken parm, which really deserves it's own review. This is a neighborhood spot that feels like the good old days. There are no video arcade games in the shop, but that's what it reminds me of here. If you're looking for some artsy panache, this isn't the spot for you. This is for regular folk. Amici's is great. They have takeout and delivery. Safe because you order from a window. Everyone is polite and friendly. I usually get pizza and if I ask them to make it well done and crispy that's never a problem. The delivery people are on time and courteous. The pepperoni pizza is our favorite. read more

Went here for the first time because the neighbors from next door.com suggested that this is a great place for good pizza. They were so right. I give this place 5 thumbs up; oh I forgot I only have two thumbs. Anyways, the pizza slices are huge and delicious. The zucchini sticks are on point (yummy) and the service was great. UNSANITARY! The last time I walked in, I witnessed the food being prepared by men who didn't wash their hands before or during prep. The staff mentioned includes a man who came in from smoking a cigarette & immediately went to the food prep area. Food Safety 101 was a complete fail. We moved to this area a few months ago. We used their website to order their appetizer platter. On the website they show a nice variety. What we got was fried chicken strips, French fries (what?!), onion rings. And it all tasted fried together. My husband a month later picked up a pizza. The crust was so thin that the center was just sauce and cheese. The sauce tasted like the unsalted canned store brand sauce. The crust had no flavor at all. I was in a bind last week and ordered 2 sandwiches and a meal. They gave me 3 sandwiches instead. The chicken parm was fried to almost a crisp. We tried to remove some of the burnt breading but there wasn't much chicken in there. I think I've learned my lesson. read more

This has been my family's #1 place to go for Pizza, Pasta and everything else. The pizza is cooked just right and the best part is it is NOT SOGGY like other pizzerias. Also, the staff are very nice and patient. My favorites are the penne vodka with chicken which happens to also be my daughter and husbands favorite. My son LOVES their French fries which I give him as his treat when he finishes all of his pizza. My only issue is they seem to sometimes overcook it because it's so dark in color and sometimes hard to chew. The crust is just the right thickness: not too thick that it's too much bread and not too thin that the cheese flops all over the place. And the size of the slices are huge! They have a good amount of cheese and not too much sauce. The pizza could use a littttle more flavor but it's still good. Price: Amici's slices are big so you'd think they'd be more expensive - nope! Really reasonable prices, super affordable. Service: I wouldn't sit down to eat inside the place - it's really small and not very well decorated. The first time I stopped by was on a whim; luckily they weren't busy and it only took them a couple minutes to heat up a couple to-go slices for me. PRO TIP: GET THE PENNE VODKA (without chicken, for some reason they don't incorporate the chicken in the pasta while cooking, it tastes out of place) Hands down top 3 best vodka sauces I've ever had. Dinners come with a small house salad and bread. Chicken Ala King, Chicken Parm, Francese, Tortellini Alfredo; All staples and very tasty Service - 3 out of 5 This is where I believe everyone complains. Some employees are hit or miss, one of the younger guys is really nice, but the owner can sometimes have his days. As a regular customer I keep it short and sweet. Cafe Amici is a Pizza Gem in the middle of Somerset. Their sauces, cheese and dough have a good crisp on a fresh cheese slice. They offer an XXL pie size setting them apart from other local Pizzeria's. Really nice for those bigger groups, or for those wanting a larger slice. (2?" pie). Its a solid NY style slice in central NJ. Is it Benny Tudino's , no it isn't, but then again, this isn't Hoboken, and it's hard to find a good large slice like this anywhere in this area with most Pizzaria's only offering the 18" at the most. Was hungry so I stopped in for two white pizza slices. Way to much dough. Looks like Red Bank is the only decent pizza @ thus far. Tasteless had to Dr. Up the pizza with spices. Chewy not Krispy.
