I came back here for another meal. The seafood salad was once again ordered as an appetizer (see previous review for similar thoughts). The crabmeat stuffed mushrooms ($8.95) and stuffed mushrooms with breadcrumbs ($7.95) were also ordered. There were 8 to an order. I preferred the ones with breadcrumbs. I thought the one with crabmeat was a little plain, but that could have just been the particular mushroom I had. For an entrée, I went with the chicken vodka ($15.95). It was breaded and topped with mozzarella and vodka sauce over pasta. It was an exceptional dish. There were large pieces of tender chicken and creamy vodka sauce. The vodka sauce was just not that spicy, which I prefer. Other than that, it was an appetizing and pleasant entrée. I also tried the cavatelli with broccoli and sausage as well as the chicken rapini. The cavatelli was very good. There was a lot of garlic incorporated and the sausage was great. The chicken rapini was sautéed in garlic and oil with sausage and broccoli rabe. There was also pasta present. I liked everything about this dish as well. I believe there were sundried tomatoes too, which went well with the rest of the dish. read more

For Italian food, they are one of the best places around. During the years of Covid, they managed to still provide takeout food. Unfortunately, to be able to remain viable, they closed the restaurant part of their business. It was very sad because they had just expanded. Having been there for awhile, but will stop in soon. read more

When you come to New Jersey, or back to visit as I tend to do, there are things you have to do while here. One being have Jersey pizza. I grew up here and we had some pretty good pizza joints we ate at growing up. Ours used to be a place in downtown Metuchen called Roberto's. It went through several different owners but they most always kept the standards pretty good. Every other Friday or so my family and my Aunt, Uncle and cousins would always be there, we were semi-regulars and we always got two pies, a large salad and a couple bottles of Coke. Unfortunately they either closed or something happened, and my family doesn't go there anymore. I moved away and years later they discovered Joey D's. Also in Metuchen but a different area. Not sure how long it has been there, but yeah, the family found a new and really good pizza place. I have had their regular pizza and their Grandma pizza (thin Sicilian) and both are worth going to eat. What's funny is the few times I have been there, I seem to run into teachers that I had when I was in elementary, middle or high school....what's funnier, is I remember them, but it takes them a while to figure out who I am.... But go, my family has had menu items and they make good Italian food as well as calzones, strombolis and of course, pizza. So, enjoy. read more

The food is excellent but the staff needs education on customer service! When you get an order wrong time and again everyday when we order lunch it's not the customers fault! Multiple times the orders are wrong and today Enrique told me "we complain too much and he doesn't want to talk to me!" It's absurd! Why don't you get orders right and people wouldn't complain! I needed a new Italian place since my old one wasn't cutting it anymore (Edison Pizza). Joey D's looked pretty good given the reviews so I placed an order for delivery -- meat stromboli and the spinach ravioli in vodka sauce. Both dishes were delicious! I was hoping for more ravioli in a $13 dish (only 6 medium ravs), but at least the taste was def there. It also wasn't hot, oh well. The stromboli was also really good - good amount of flavorful meat and the bottom was nicely crunchy rather than soggy. Marinara sauce also yum. My only criticism besides what I already mentioned is that it took an hour to arrive and the actual ordering was a bit painful (I had to keep repeating myself, had issues saying where I lived etc.) Other than that, Joey D's has quality and tasty food. What can I say, when I am home I am a regular. The service and food is what you want in a local Italian restaurant. Reasonably priced for the large portions (always have a doggy bag). Joey covers the full range of Italian cooking and let me not forget to mention it is a BYOB. I almost always order the Chicken Rollatini with Prosciutto and Provolone. Normally is comes on a bed of pasta but with me wanting to save some room for the starters, as they are very accommodating to special requests. I ask for them to plate it on a bed of garlic spinach. I very much enjoy it, my bide might have a different point of view. So as I mentioned earlier about that room I want to save. Holy cow is this good pizza!! I recently started working nearby and Joey D's was a dangerous discovery - I'm eating slices from here at least three days a week now. Staff is friendly and efficient. And most importantly, the pizza is incredibly good. Crust is crisp and almost buttery on the outside and a little fluffy and chewy on the inside. Toppings are all fresh and yummy. On this trip, we had pizza. The Grandma Pizza. You probably want to know what that is. It is a bit like a Sicilian pizza but the crust is fairly thin. This pizza comes with cheese, basil and sauce ($16). We added mushrooms to one half and pepperoni to the other. Additional toppings are $2 each. It was a big pie. I wasn't sure if this would actually sate my appetite since we had 4 people, but the other 3 are light eaters so I ended up eating the bulk of it. Good times. read more

Where do I even begin? Amazing food, great service, cozy atmosphere. Did I mention how great their food was? I found this place when I started my newest job over a half a year ago. I've come here twice a week ever since. Joey, the owner, is a really great guy and that reflects on his employees. The good is to die for, literally. If I was on my death bed my last meal would be something of his menu. Probably his buffalo chicken pizza. I swear I could eat an entire pie.. The ingredients are fresh and everything is cooked perfectly. Now I've put off this review for quite some time because I was waiting for something negative so this could be realistic. Love their pizza....service is appalling. And that is for delivery! Deliveryman brought my Lisa salad swimming in balsamic dressing, which soaked through the bag and on top of the pizza box. The delivery man said he would be upset too with the presentation, when my mother-in-law told him she was displeased . When she called to complain, they all but called her a liar and refused to even accept the fact that it was presented as a mess. They told her they always put the dressing over the salad and that it is wrapped in a plastic bag(it was paper) and that there was no way it would've gone through to the pizza box.
