We for their plain and pepperoni pizza, as well as their ravioli. Amazingggg sauce and the ravioli was cooked just right. Pizza crust was thin and crisp, a good size to share with 7 people. My boyfriend and I intended to get the $12 pizza deal from Whole Foods on a Friday, but didn't realize that they stopped making pizza at 7 pm. In search of a pizza spot to fulfill a craving we walked to La Rosa's. When you enter the pizzeria, you can either order at the counter or dine-in in an adjacent area. We sat down and ordered a 16" pizza with half steak and half green peppers and an order of 6 garlic knots. The garlic knots were delicious, but we both agreed it could have been more garlicky. When the pizza came out, we saw that there was no steak as we ordered. Our waitress was very apologetic and it was fine, but we were looking forward to steak on the pizza. The pizza itself was only alright. The bottom of the pizza was a bit soggy and not crispy and the cheese was not very attached to the pizza and seemed to fall apart. Everything here is delicious! I like the pizza here because the crust is thin and crispy and the sauce is flavorful. They are generous with the pizza toppings. I've had the lasagna a few times, some of the pasta dishes, the veggetable panini, an eggplant Parmesan sub, and salads. I've enjoyed the flavor of absolutely everything I have ever eaten here! This is a friendly family run business and the customer service is excellent. I usually get my order to go, although I have sat at the counter and had pizza on my lunch break. There is a dining area to the side that is a little more fancy but I have not been there for table service. There is free public parking in a large lot behind the restaurant. Please note, this is NOT the same restaurant as the nearby LaRosa Chicken and Grill. That has different owners. This LaRosa's was here first! In a word....foolish. We walked in at 4:10 to eat and get out of the heat. Two women were ahead of us waiting. We sat down. A girl came out to clean tables. She said nothing. We continued to wait. No menus. No water, on a 100 degree day. Eventually she said "we serve at 4:30". The place had been open since lunch. Fresh Pizzas were at the counter. Now it's 4:20pm. I get up and ask the guy standing at the counter "no service"? He said "not until 4:30. Now it's 4:25. Nowhere in the room or on the menu was it posted that they have some type of service at 4:30. Food here is always good. But, the service often seems to be by young people who just started waiting tables a few hours or days ago. As an example, when we last ate there, the food of course was good and portions were generous. But, when the bill came, we were charged for our pitchers of tap water! I got food from them last night. The chicken was half burned and half all it was chicken fingers. They said that they were going to bring me another order. They never did the pizza. I got a large pizza pie Penny Lavaca with breaded chicken on top with the breaded chicken it was also raw in half burn I called. They told me impossible that's how they serve. It refused to give me a refund after they told me they were going to bring the chicken fingers back they never did very disappointed. This is a Italian family owned pizzeria that serves top quality food. Starting with the garlic bread. It was the perfect amount of garlic and the perfect crunch. Fluffy on the inside. You can tell that the bread was made fresh. I ate the whole basket. We ordered one plate of calamari, which could feed a whole family. Very delicious. The veggie pizza was very phenomenal, prob one of the best veggie pizzas I ever had. The veggies were very fresh as if they grown it themselves. And the best for last. The penne vodka was AMAZING. It was my personal favorite. They give you a lot for your money. Growing up in an old school Italian family, I am very particular with my pasta. Therefore I was speechless. This was a small place with about 15 tables. There were some photos from different parts of Italy I believe too. The menu was like a traditional pizzeria except the prices. The prices were very reasonable. The service was alright. We were not asked if we wanted dessert. The check just came. The bread that started the meal was the best food of the night. It had a slight crunch with a good amount of seasoning on top too. It was a good start. I went with the Romanellis ($13.50). It came with a side house salad where there were no complaints. The Romanellis was pasta stuffed with cheese in a creamy sundried tomato sauce with mushrooms and parmesan cheese. The pasta seemed to be homemade and was nothing like I have seen before. It was similar to a ravioli I would say. The sauce was ideal and went well with the mushrooms. I also tried the shrimp parmigiana. It was not very good. The sauce was bland and there was too much breading on the shrimp. The only positive was the number of shrimp present. Will I go back? Debatable. read more

There is a lot of new development along Lake Avenue in Metchen, NJ. In the neighborhood for a meeting and hungry afterwards, I stopped in La Rosa's Pizza for a late afternoon bite. The house is well presented, with simple, yet attractive dining room and table service for those dining in. I read the reviews saying the pizza was the way to go, but I was more in the mood for a real meal at that hour. I chose their cavatelli broccoli, which came with a small side salad and basket of their own bread made from their dough. My friend opted for the flounder franchais. The bread was still hot and rubbed with spices for a crunchy texture and pleasant flavor. Perfect for sopping up the sauces at the bottom of our plates. The salad was fresh greens, red onion and balsamic vinaigrette. No iceberg to be found. Nice. The pasta was very good with a good amount of garlic and extra virgin olive oil to add a rounded taste to the mildly cheesy cavatelli. The broccoli was fine, but I think sauteed spinach would have been a better complement. The flounder was in four filets, breaded with egg, flour, lemon and skillet finished with white wine on a bed of penne. The sauce was quite succulent, but the flounder may have been in the freezer a little too long as it was mildly fishy. I still liked my small sample, but understood why my friend commented about it. Been there several times. The main draw is the pizza. It's just like 100 other places. The crust is soggy and floppy in the center. The sauce tastes like a can. The cheese is average. Toppings are total restaurant supply store. Overall, it's good but has no personality. The salads are fair, but in my opinion, way too much dressing and definitely too much vinegar. Had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. The bacon and the party were deep fried and tasted of the fryer oil. The meat puck was hard, dry and the cheese was more moist. I don't mean to bash it. Although I actually haven't dined in - I got the classic grandfather pizza to go and it was absolutely delicious !!!! One of the best pizza slices I've tasted in NJ. I want to review their takeout pizza that has been a "comfort" during crazy 2020. La Rosa's used to be the other pizza place in the town I grew up in. That is not the case anymore. They have become the pizza place as the pizzeria I grew up going to has changed owners and from what I've been told, the pizza isn't the same. La Rosa's has new digs as their old digs went up in flames within the last year or so. They didn't have to go too far. Just across the big parking lot to a nondescript strip mall. Came here with some friends and we ended up all ordering a few slices. I had a plain and a white slice. I always love to order a plain slice. Some places go overboard with their toppings and that can usually mask the flavor of the sauce, cheese and crust. If your plain slice is good, you know how to make pizza in my book. The plain was very good with a very thin crust. Not too oily which can always bring a slice down in more ways than one. The crust had a nice brown color to it. I like a white slice as well because I'm a big fan of ricotta cheese. It is local. Probably not the best slice that I've ever had, but pretty darn good. It is within walking distance of my dad's house so whenever I get back, rest assured a trip to La Rosa's will probably be in store. read more

The menu is big and there are always great lunch specials ($4-$9) if you're looking for a bargain lunch. The pizza is fresh and always has a huge selection of specialty pies (baked ziti pizza, cheesesteak pizza, eggplant parm pizza, chicken cutlet pizza, BLT pizza, chicken ceaser salad pizza, the list continues). I've never been here for dinner, so my review is solely based on the lunch items (I've only ever ordered their pizza and their subs).
