This place was small and quaint. I went with one other person. We didn't have a wait for a table and we went for lunch on a Tuesday. We had the option of sitting inside or outside. This was my first food stop in Indiana and I had a pleasant time. It's located right along the Ohio River (although this river isn't very appealing, looked kind of dirty/polluted) and offers both indoor and outdoor seating. They have a pretty extensive menu, even for lunch. There were plenty of vegetarian options (which was great) and I'm sure everyone is able to find something they like. I ordered the falafel wrap (you have the option of getting it on a bun or a pita) with tzatziki sauce (there was another sauce option but I forgot which one) and fries. The falafel was good but I felt like there was hardly any tzatziki (so ask for extra). The pita bread was really good, so soft and so chewy and warm, like I know it's just bread but it was the best part LOL! The fries were these flat potato wedges, never had them this way but they were crispy and enjoyable. Service was really attentive and polite. The server came around often to check in with us and offered refills quite often. What shocked me the most was the prices! Everything here was so CHEAP! Something similar in NYC would definitely cost 50% more. Definitely check it out if you happen to be in the area. read more

This place is a must-do for roadtrippers in the KY/IN area. I was driving through for work and hadn't seen a decent restaurant to stop at for miles. I live in chicago but was raised in a NYC, so I can be a bit snobby when it comes to saying a restaurant is decent :) Plus, I hadn't passed many towns with options more the fast food since leaving Indianapolis. This place is, without question, the best hidden gem in the KY/IN area. I had a delicious and fresh lunch (artichoke wrap with salad was incredible) paired with the funky bohemian ambiance while also overlooking the gorgeous river on their outdoor patio. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating, as I was there off-hours and in a hurry. I cannot wait to drive through that area again and stop by. If I lived locally I would undoubtably go there weekly. read more

I have heard a lot of great things about this place, so I thought it was due for a visit. Walked in. Was shown our table. Sat down. Chair leg broke. Bashed my face on the fucking table. Chipped my front tooth. No shit. Now normally, this is about all it would take to stir up enough anger in me to murder everybody in the place, but the Portabella Pesto and Goat Cheese Wraps looked particularly delightful - so I wasn't sure I'd have time to enjoy both. So I opted for just the latter. These wraps were amazing, as was the spinach artichoke dip, the Greek salad, and the Baklava Ala Arazu. I want to give them four stars so badly for my chipped tooth, but I just can't do it because the food was so damn good. This experience definitely warrants a second and third and forth visit, but next time I will have to remember my mouth guard from my old football days. read more

Best food in Newburgh! We frequent this establishment. I can't say enough about the quality of the cuisine at Cafe Arazu. Arazu shrimp is a great starter. Make sure to order the special on weekends. Today at our visit we were extremely impressed. The food was good. However, our service was terrible. After starting out waiting about 10 mins to even ever have Laine H say hello. When we asked about bread she advised us they were out. Which would of been fine, but we watched other servers bring it out. She said she would check, but proceeded to spend a half hour comparing her skin color to others at the table. When she asked us if we wanted to see the desert tray, we told her yes. She then proceeded to talk with another table. In fact, she just sat down with them and proceeded to chit chat with them. After her 20 minute conversation with that table, she finally decided to bring the dessert. She then took our desserts back to another table to continue to her super important conversation. When she finally came back with our dessert she returned to her table and proceeded to talk and hold our dessert in front of other people while she continued to chat about tik tok. She did comp our desserts, but blamed the service on she had too many regulars. We had a bad experience, but I still give this place 5 stars! We came with a party of 8 , and it was apparent that something was wrong as numerous tables were being served ahead of us. The waitress immediately brought us a comped bottle of wine as an apology and told the grill staff to move our order to the front. When we received dinner, several of our meat entrees were overcooked. We asked that these be replaced and instead of being annoyed, the entire staff stopped by our table to apologize - including the owner. The owner even offered to take the small child in our group for ice cream at the neighboring ice cream shop, which he came through on! I did not have a great experience, but I had the perfect kind of customer service that should forever endear you to this wonderful restaurant. The food was great too. This is my new favorite place to eat in this area--yum!! Hubby and I planned to meet friends there at 7pm on a Saturday evening. Luckily, our friends had been there before and knew it would be a good idea to make reservations for the patio, which was a great call and I would highly recommend doing the same if you're planning in advance. As I am on a vegan kick at the moment, I called at 11am to talk with the host about the menu options-- I didn't want to ask our poor server a barrage of questions that would send her back to the kitchen for clarification a billion times. I spoke with two people on the phone--first the host, then a woman who knew the ins and outs of the menu-- and I was delighted that they were both incredibly friendly and very vegan-accommodating. A lot of times when I ask about having things be altered so that they're vegan (or just trying to find out something like whether or not a restaurant's pesto has cheese in it), I get a lot of huffy and puffy attitude from staff-- not so at Cafe Arazu! By the time I got off the phone I was feeling warm n fuzzy about the staff and very excited about the many menu options that could be made vegan. (happy dance!) Fast forward to arriving-- the table was ready and our friends were seated. Our server, Barbie (love her name!), was very nice and came by the table often to check on us and refill water; when we got to the end of the meal, she was kind enough to hunt down the answer to my dessert question (does the baklava have butter? answer: yes) even though it took asking 4 different people. I'm grateful that she cared enough to really get to the bottom of it-- a lot of places would have either guessed or said they couldn't find anyone who knew after giving it one shot. Going the extra mile counts for a lot in my book. As for the food-- it was superb! On the recommendation of the woman I'd spoken with by phone, I ordered the shrimp with couscous dish made with portabello mushroom instead of shrimp-- it was SO good! I also had the red lentil soup-- again, amazing. I'm a sucker for good soup and I think I could eat a bowl of that stuff every day. The meat eaters at the table raved about their food as well, though I can't recall exactly what they had. The only thing less than perfect was the description of the wine we chose from the wine menu. I'm not a fan of sweet wine at all, although I recognize that the midwestern palate tends toward the sweeter side, so it makes sense that the pinot noir we chose was on the menu in the first place. However, there should have been a more accurate description that included the fact that it had some sweetness to it-- probably about a 6% or 8%-- because I wouldn't have chosen it had it been accurately described. Next time I will choose a cab or merlot and hope it's better; if they serve it by the glass, perhaps I will ask for a small taste before ordering a bottle. Still, the absence of accurate wine description was a momentary annoyance in an otherwise wonderful dining experience. I will most certainly be back again and again. read more

Got us some appetizers and gyros and wraps. They were OK but by no means special. Nice outdoor dining with view of the river. Cafe Arazu, in the heart of historic Newburgh IN. has a great at atmosphere. We were greeted right away with a friendly smile. I had made reservations but walk ins are welcome too. It was a return visit for me, first time for Mike and also first for the couple we were with. My food was wonderful as the first time I ate there. Our waitress was friendly and knew her menu. She made the evening even more special. I wish I would of got her name, so I could give proper kudos. She had a feather in her hair, if anyone knows her. We ordered appetizers for the table, A persian eggplant with pita , very yummy and a fruit and cheese platter, which was very refreshing. I had the Lamb (sheesh-leek) Marinated rack of lamb with Middle Eastern spices.. This was delicious. Mike had the special for the night oven-roasted bistro medallion that is topped off with a smoked bacon-bourbon sauce and garnished with homemade tobacco onions (thinly sliced fried onions) with a side of grilled vegetables and a blue cheese mash potato. Mike said it was delicious and he would order it again. The also have patio seating that has a nice view of the Ohio River. Sitting outside at this cafe is a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon or evening. I ordered the lamb kabob. I was surprised to see 3pieces of rack of lamb on my plate, which were delicious. The rice of the day was well seasoned also. We tried the bruschetta for an appetizer, it tasted fresh and the tomatoes were nice and sweet. I had zero complaints about the meal.
