A PERFECT experience. Excellent service and all our food was amazing. A small-ish family restaurant that we happened to see while working in Owensboro this week. My colleagues and I were staying in a nearby hotel and after driving past Famous Bistro I checked out the Yelp reviews. So many five star reviews! We decided to give it a try and made reservations for a Thursday evening. We dined outside because it was a perfect October evening. Our server was wonderful. We started with spanakopita bites which the chef recommended and they were flakey and delicious. The homemade bread was excellent. I ordered Salmon Dijonaise and it was served with herb roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts. I also ordered a side of haricot verts. Everything was perfect, and the salmon had great flavor. My colleague ordered a small spinach salad and Sundried tomato pesto penne. Servings were generous and we ended up asking our server to box up half of our entreès. Lunch for tomorrow, yay! The food and service could not have been better. Highly recommend this family restaurant. read more

Our food was excellent! My husband loved his spaghetti and meatballs and I got the Siciliano pizza. We had great service. It's a small restaurant so reservations are a must. We didn't have any and had to sit in the middle of room next to the kitchen...very undesirable location. The people next to us ordered several appetizers and raved about them all! read more

This is a small cute Italian style family restaurant. The menu is not large which is good. My salmon pita was good but not what I was expecting. My husband liked his Reuben and the mousaka was good. EXCELLENT!!! The many 5-star reviews (including this one) don't do it justice! I don't believe I've ever gone to a better restaurant, and we eat out a lot. I had the salmon pita with lemon chicken soup. The salmon cheese mixture on the pita was unique and beyond YUMMY! My husband had the grilled tuna and bacon on wheat with potato salad. He's not much of a foodie, but he seriously enjoyed both and ate every bite, despite the large portions. We live 40 minutes away but Famous Bistro is going to be our new favorite. Went out to grab a bite with our cousins and loved it. Nice quaint establishment with not too many tables making it more intimate. Menu wasn't overwhelming and the drinks were very well made. I got the bourbon chicken but swapped out the little russet potatoes for mashed. Chicken was super flavorful with a nice textured crunchy skin. I came here for dinner a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed my meal in this old school bistro! The servers were friendly and the ambiance was that of a classic small town restaurant with memorabilia from the owner's family! I stumbled upon some wholesome interactions among some regulars and servers which made it seem homey (and a hit in the community!). I enjoyed the salmon caesar salad and side of brussel sprouts (though I wish they had been cooked a touch more and with a little less sauce). Overall, a fun spot with good food! read more

This place looks unassuming but WOWZA! Service and food is KILLER!! Mackenzie served the three of us with a smile and a lot of patience. I had, without a doubt, the BEST CLUB SANDWICH IN MY LIFE here yesterday. The bread is soft and the turkey, ham, lettuce and bacon were plentiful without being ridiculous. I forgot to say easy on the mayo and they did it perfectly anyway! It takes a big bite to get it done, but legitimately delicious. Mackenzie offered pickles on the side and said they were spicy. I love spicy!! Those pickles were HOT! hahah. I was wincing and sniffling but Yummy!! Little gem of a place in heart of Owensboro! Great Greek food amidst other pasta and classic dishes. Shared spanokopita bites....delish. Can make a meal though or of them! Plenty to share!! First I would like to say I have lived all over the US and enjoy all different types of foods. First thing my wife and I noticed was the cheese steaks wit whiz if ya know ya know. I decided on the Gyro, it was fantastic. My wife got the roasted eggplant moussaka and wow probably the best things she has eaten in Owensboro. our kids got the generic kids stuff (pizza, grilled cheese) but they also enjoyed it, our oldest loved the eggplant as well. Service was top notch, and the setting reminded me of a little corner rearestaurant in NYC. This place is epic and definitely on my top 10 favorite restaurants in the U.S! The service is top notch despite the place constantly being packed, the beer & wine list rivals the range and selection of a liquor depot, and the food is some of the most authentic Greek/Italian I've had in a long time. Everything is super fresh, simply prepared, and perfectly cooked. Portions are generous and prices are relatively low compared to what you're actually getting. By the same token, there's very little pretense about this place. It's got a real cozy and down-home vibe that's as welcoming as a small town diner. I stopped for lunch by myself on a solo cross-country motorcycle tour, but I can definitely see this place as a superb spot for a family dinner or wine-and-dine date night. All-in-all, this place is a bit of an oddball of a unicorn, which I love, and I'd definitely recommend going out of your way to stop by if you're within a 50-mile radius of this place. Make sure you make a reservation if you want dinner here or you'll probably end up waiting for a good while. It's not a big joint. The only thing that could make this place better is a nice patio for al-fresco dining and a little more seating, but I'm just nitpicking at this point. read more

We come to Owensboro for a bit of adult fun annually when we travel to the area for our family trip to Holiday World. We have found a lovely balance of crazy, sweaty, summer fun at Holiday World, and the clean, cultured town of Owensboro. The downtown is something to be proud of. Plenty of great food and drink to be had as well as entertainment. The crown jewel for upscale ingredients is the Famous Bistro and it is clear that it is NO secret. Each year I fail to make reservations ahead of time which results in each year us having to eat at a bizarre time. This, however, is still worth the wait. Maybe someday I will get it together and plan ahead of time LOL. Truly, we have yet to order an item that we were less than thrilled with. Be proud Owensboro. You have a gem here. read more

The food was very good. I was a bit disappointed with the side salad, which cost $10 but was very very small with not many toppings or much dressing. I had hoped for more bang for my buck. I was also disappointed in the drink pricing. Prices are not listed on the menu. When I got the bill I was surprised that I was charged for the drink, as well as the alcohol that goes into the drink. So $10 for the drink plus $5 for the alcohol... $15 total for a simple 3 ingredient drink (not special or seasonal). Service was good. The restaurant itself is cozy and quaint. Walked in, no clear direction as to whether seat yourself or wait to be seated. The lunch menu is way bigger than the dinner menu, felt very underwhelming. We opted to wait for dinner to start. There is no kids menu on the dinner leaving us to wonder if there was one. The staff seemed friendly. Nonetheless we ordered the pita pizza for our kids which they ate but when we tasted it it was it was not good. Their food came first and we were told five minutes on ours yet it was closer to 10-15 mins if not longer. Both our kids were finished before our food reached the table. I ordered the lamb which was marketed has braised for hours, yet the waitress when she apologized for the wait said it took 45 mins to cook. The lamb was dry and bland. The orzo pasta was runny and the flavor was not there for me, the asparagus also bland and over cooked, and the glaze didn't seem to fit. My husband ordered their bourbon chicken and this was PHENOMENAL. I HIGHLY recommend it. While the sauce was a bit sweet for me and it seemed as if the salt and sweet was battling to cancel each other out, the whole flavor profile was done right amazing. The chicken was tender, juicy, and the knife went through with minimal effort. The breading with the sauce was perfect, it was not soggy, it was not nice to have a crunch still. The broccoli cooked almost to perfection and salted. The potatoes was a hit with the whole family we all got a bite. All around this was the way to go. Other things I observed. The kitchen staff works amazingly together, you hear them communicating, and working as a team. Our waitress while friendly she was not very attentive. With dinner they give bread, we never got ours. Even when the wait between the children getting their food and us ours was so long bread was never brought or offered, this could have changed the experience a bit. The kitchen seemed very clean! They clean as they worked and that was pleasing to see. As I looked around I saw minimal dust or untidiness. Most restaurants aren't as open as this and are in horrible shape so it was refreshing to see that the team of people working there took pride in that place enough to keep it looking nice. I wish I could remember my waitress's name but from what I could tell, they were all great.
