What an amazing experience! Stopped in for an early dinner this past Saturday and was struck by the wonderful decor. Very top notch interior and they left the exterior as the old Greyhound terminal. Started of with a medley of yummy onion straws and dips. I could have made this my meal but I ordered the smash burger patty melt and was not disappointed. Flavorful and mouthwatering! Our servers was an absolute gem. Great banter, humor and very attentive. Topped off my meal with a milk shake and was stuffed to the gills. We ended up here for a late lunch/early dinner when we were hungry, too tired to look for new options and were happy to walk here from the hotel. We prefer to eat a places we wouldn't have at home - and there is a BRU Burger already near us (or soon coming to us). BUT - desperate times, desperate measures. It was a weekday mid-afternoon. This would be our major meal of the day - getting it between softball games. Our hotel was a few blocks away - just close enough to not break out in a full sweat walking over in the 95 degree heat. We were seated right away. Our waiter was nice an and attentive. He took our drink orders fairly soon after being seated. They had a nice sized glass of Diet Coke - best to not have to flag him down for frequent refills. I had looked at the menu quickly online when I first checked out what restaurants were near the hotel - done on the drive here from Ohio. I recalled there being at least one salad option for me. And I knew burger/sandwiches would make my Sweetie happy. I was torn between the Cobb and Chop - and finally opted for the Cobb. Glad I did. It had plenty of the fresh veggies as well as a big old scoop of guacamole on top. YUMM. My hubby's burger came with a very generous amount of fries and a nice-sized burger. He did a pretty good job of clearing his plate - as I did. The pricing was OK - more than I want to pay at lunch but good given it was our dinner, too. Service was good, restaurant was rather quiet given the time of day and we were on our way rather quickly. Would I eat here again? Probably not - but for the reason stated above. Will it be a regular back home - probably not as it doesn't offer anything better than we can already get at our favorite local spots. But with our situation and being out of town, I'm glad we chose to eat here and had a good experience! read more

A solid burger joint in a super cool old bus station. The service was very good, and most of the food was excellent. The only "ding" was that the fries and the appetizers clearly sat under the heat lamps for a while, as they were slightly warmer than room temp, but not by much. The design of the building made me smile from the get go. I love that they kept the original blue exterior and the signage from the Greyhound bus station that used to be in this location. The inside has high ceilings and cool architecture. I love a business that tries to use an existing building in a community instead of building something new. As for dinner, I tried the cob salad. It was phenomenal! I got the small portion and it was plenty for my dinner. The dressing and cheese they used had excellent undertones of a feta and a smoky flavor. Inside, the walls are decorated with framed documents, old ticket stubs, articles, etc., of Greyhound's past in Evansville. You can eat at Bru Burger Bar in other cities, I've from the Indianapolis area, and we have one there, BUT the unique atmosphere brought me in. I already knew the food was going to be good. And it was. The trio dips were delicious. The homemade hummus is my favorite--props to our server for bringing extra pita bread in advance. We split a burger because they are huge (we got one of the extra loaded ones). It came already cut in half for us, and extra pickles, so we didn't have to share. If there was a zero. This place doesn't deserve one star. I ordered the patty melt, with a side of onion rings. This was the worst burger that I've ever tasted in my entire life. It was cold and the patty was a very light brown color. The sourdough bread was nothing but a soggy mess. The burger had no taste. It was like a frozen patty With no seasoning whatsoever. The onion rings were made with very old grease and burnt. They were so chewy and disgusting. I'm having severe stomach pain now and I only ate a few bites. Never ever ever again. I have visited Bru 3 times with this being the 1st time in Evansville. The other 2 times have been in Indy with pretty good and really good. I can't say the same about my 3rd visit. First of all, cool venue with it being in an old Greyhound station. After that, it was all downhill. It started with what I was hoping for a fresh-brewed glass of sweet tea. The bartender gave me some tea and I swore it had alcohol or medicine in it. I asked him if this was the only tea they had and unfortunately, he said yes. He also said it was from a fountain with syrup. Does anyone like their sweet tea like that? I have failed to find anyone that does. The next dreadful event was the burger I ordered - the honey chipotle burger. There was absolutely nothing about this burger that was honey chipotle. The white cheddar cheese was really tasty and the meat of the burger itself was all right. But what was disappointing about it to me was the tasteless pulled pork with no BBQ sauce. There was black pepper mayo though which is phenomenal but why no BBQ sauce? I found out why shortly after I requested some. The BBQ sauce would have been a better fit on spaghetti than the pulled pork. It was more like a creamy marinara than a BBQ sauce. I ordered fries and they tasted wonderful except most of them were more like pieces of fries. It was like I was given the bottom of the bag. Bru was so disappointing for me on so many levels. On a final note, the service was great and I just couldn't validate enough of my criticisms to share with them. I did tell them about the sweet tea and it was replaced with water. I have put in 27 years in the restaurant industry and trust me when I am impressed with service in today's restaurant culture please take note. The Food - 4 Stars: For the order, we had: 1) Onion Rings 2) Soft Pretzels 3) The Beginning Interestingly, the burger was not the best part. The soft pretzel and the onion rings were the winner of the day for me. Don't get me wrong, the burger was great, but I have had better more often than not. Atmosphere 5 Stars: This location is located in the historic downtown Greyhound station of Evansville. The signage out front and the small touches of history throughout the restaurant really bring the history to life. The Service - 3 Stars: Average service with our waitress was nice and prompt. Oh my! This place is the bomb! We were in town for business, staying down the street at The Doubletree Hotel. The concierge at our hotel recommended BRU Burger Bar and we couldn't thank him enough. We had a late lunch/early dinner here and were worried because it was an "off" time for business at restaurants. We were not disappointed. The restaurant is very interesting with an industrial rustic feel and lots of history. We loved the atmosphere and look forward to coming back at night for drinks and live music. Strolled into Evansville for the Kenny Chesney show and had to get a bite to eat before the show. BRU checks off all the boxes. Great ambiance set inside of a renovated Greyhound Bus Station with a cool hipster/craft look. Service was very attentive and friendly which we appreciated. I got the Burger Snack which was a flavorful, more than a snack smash burger that was so on the money, I'd be happy to repeat the order. BRU fries were so good, not sure it they are hand cut but they do come with house ketchup that will make you forget Heinz was invented. Topped it off with a Fat Tire on draft. Perfect preshow fuel. For those GF'rs out there they have gluten free buns, and the wife even enjoyed the BRU Marg that had an interesting twist with the elderflower liqueur. Fun was had by all. Well, did I have a surprise last night! My wife and I were headed to an event in downtown Evansville, IN last night and decided to check out the local Bru Burger Bar. We had been there years ago and didn't remember why we had not been back for many years, but the beginning burger I order quickly brought back old, unpleasant memories. I can honestly say that last night I suffered through the WORST hamburger I have even eaten--this includes fast food burgers! My beginning burger was ordered as presented on the menu except I had the waitress hold the ketchup plus added a side order of slaw. When food was delivered to our table I immediately noticed my burger had the look of a frozen patty formed up in a factory, certainly not a patty I would expect from a restaurant whose reason for being is to deliver the best burger. Anyway, I decided to keep an open mind and took a bite. The burger was SO soaked with mayo and mustard that its less-than-premium bun just fell apart onto my plate, helped along by a 1 inch pile of chopped lettuce that at the first bite also completely feel onto my plate. (What happened to using a few crisp, fresh pieces of lettuce to give the burger a premium taste, especially for a $13.50 burger!!) I would have perhaps overlooked the mess on my plate had the burger tasted good; it did not! YUCK! I did suffer through the burger--using my knife and fork--but needed constant use of my napkin to wipe all the mayo and mustard off my hands and cloths. I will say that the place was fairly busy, so I guess my experience must not be the norm, or perhaps my recently formed opinion that restaurant goes will eat ANYTHING is more true than even I imagined!! read more

We've always loved Bru -- EVV, Indy, Lafayette -- and have been to the EVV location several times, but had taken a little hiatus after having a less than stellar experience with a few of the staff over the summer (we'd wanted to sit on the patio with the doggos and were told no seating was available... when it was half empty). While we figured it was due to staffing, the honestly the "conversation" (or lack thereof) was so frustrating that we just needed a break. After getting a gift card for Christmas we decided to give Our beloved Bru another try. S/O to the kind staff this evening who took our phone order and the speedy to-go service! We appreciate you! We went with carry-out burgers & onion rings (YUM) and fell in love with the new (or new-to-me) Impossible™ Hiki' Ole w/Maple-Chipotle Glaze, Guacamole, Iceberg, Cucumber-Mango-Pineapple Relish. I got the glaze on the side so I could drizzle once we got home (gotta do what you can to avoid soggy buns w/takeout) and I'd give this a 10/10!
