A hidden gem in this small town. The food was absolutely fantastic, I had the chicken shawarma with a Greek salad. Everything is made in house and you can actual see the food being prepared by a woman who looks like she has used these family recipes for years. It's so exciting to see nightlife come to downtown Newburgh! I've been here for lunch twice and once for late night snacks. I love the vegetarian options. Oddly, you can only get the wraps during lunch hours. The dinner menu is a little limited but everything I've tried I've enjoyed. Summer supper on the patio overlooking the Ohio River, with a quick switch to an indoor table when the rain started. Mulligatawny was so good that our kids wished they had ordered some, too. My wife and I have picked this as our favorite restaurant in the area. It is cultural, romantic, and has a great view of the river with an outdoor patio. The menu is Mediterranean done right. All of the food is made fresh with great flavor and the quality is excellent. Generic is not a word that I would use to describe about anything at this restaurant. This restaurant has the worst service out of any restaurant I've ever been to nationwide. However, they do have some amazing food. My husband and I ate here several times and each time we went it was solely their menu and great food that brought us back. We knew if we went, we'd have to block out 1.5-2 hrs to allow for the crappy service to fill water, bring food, and bring the check. Once, they even forgot about us and didn't come back to our table after placing our food order. We went to the hostess after 15-20 minutes of waiting and she said she'd let our waitress know to check on us. Another 10-15 minutes and no sign of her. We asked hostess again, and same message. Finally after almost an hour of waiting for our waitress to bring our food or check on us in general, we asked to speak to a manager. Someone from the kitchen came out (I don't know if he was the manager or not). He found our waitress and she said, "Oh wow, I'm so sorry, I thought you guys had left and didn't know you were still here! Your food is in the warmer! I'll get it now!" We just paid and got our food to go. No discount, nothing. Tonight, we went there, again for the best food ever. Their sign said they closed at 9PM. My husband and I walked in at 7:55 PM. The hostess seated us and I could hear the cook in the back complaining loudly and banging stuff about customers coming in after he'd cleaned. We were waiting for the waitress and a woman from the back came out after 10 minutes and said they'd already cleaned the kitchen early because it was slow and so they were going to serve anyone the rest of the night. I said, "the sign said 9PM, so I didn't know it was an issue." She said, "Yah, I know it says that but since we were slow we just decided to clean early and so our kitchen is closed now". There have been minor things as well, but those two are the biggest. The bad service has finally outweighed the amazing food. We will never be back there again. read more

There are few foods that I would say I'm "obsessed" with and one of them is falafel. Oh, how I love falafel. I was pleasantly surprised when I decided to try Café Azure and found a falafel burger (vegetarian) on the menu. Located in historic downtown Newburgh Café Arazu is a locally owned restaurant serving Mediterranean food. I was looking for new a place to eat and I love local restaurants with good vegetarian options. I sat outside on the patio because the inside felt a little dark for a sunny afternoon. I was a little apprehensive when I looked around the patio and noticed that most people didn't have their food yet. The only negative was the service was a little on the slow side, but my falafel was well worth the wait. I opted for it in a pita wrap and it was served with lettuce, tomato, red pickled onion, and feta with a cilantro tzatziki dressing and a side of fries. It was a delicious combination of flavors and a perfectly portioned lunch size meal. Left with room for dessert, I decided to try the baklava. It was a good choice, sweet layers of nutty and flaky pastry soaked in sweet honey. Definitely will be going back! read more

This is easily the best restaurant in Newburgh and it would be a candidate for best restaurant in the entire region. For starters, the setting, view, and ambiance is unmatched. Many seats, especially those outside, offer a beautiful view of the river. The staff are knowledgeable and nice. The food is Mediterranean for the most part and exquisitely done. For the price this place can't be beat and it's no wonder that locals frequently recommend it first. If I could rate this zero I would. We were as party of two. Host kept seating others before our party. We were finally seated. No wait staff attempted to come take a drink order. We watched servers take orders for other tables who were seated after we were. No one attempted to even check on us. We wasted 40 minutes waiting for seating and service. We got up. I handed the menu to the host. I told him he could keep his menu; the terrible service in this restaurant didn't warrant staying any longer. I told him we were leaving. We walked out. One of my favorite restaurants in the evansville area. The beef kabobs are spiced perfectly, way better than any steak. The atmosphere is very cool with an interesting and cozy middle eastern style. They make a great chai latte and their prices are reasonable. They don't have the best parking but that's hardly their fault. The restaurant down the street owns the side street next to them and decided to close it off cause of lost business going to Arazu. This was a pretty dirty move on their part and limits parking around Arazu as well as access to the main lot by the riverfront. Again not Arazu's fault and only a short walk from the main parking lot for the area. read more

My work team brought one of our clients to Cafe Arazu on a Monday evening in early July. We arrived at 530pm and were lucky to get the last available table. We were pleasantly surprised at how busy they were on a Monday evening. We had excellent service. Our server took the time to explain what various dishes were. One member of our party had never eaten Middle Eastern food before. Our server's patience with our questions and entree suggestions were greatly appreciated. Our party ordered the shwarma, chicken kebobs and salmon. Everyone was very pleased. Food arrived about 15-20 minutes after ordering. The location is great in downtown Newburgh. The restaurant is tastefully decorated yet cozy. The outdoor patio is beautifully decorated and a huge hit - always packed. Can't wait for them to open their downtown Evansville location. read more

We parked in back and saw no sign where to come in. Found our way to front. No sign as to seat ourselves or wait to be seated. Asked a young man cleaning tables he was not too friendly said to wait out front. Lady comes and asks if we'll be out by 5:30- it was four. I joked and said I guess that depends on you. She didn't find that humorous at all. My boyfriend said he was an inch away from walking out. I said I was thinking the same. So, we walked out and went to Tin Fish. Very friendly young lady there. A lady came in that I knew. We told her our experience. She said that the food was really good at Cafe Arazu but service was bad. Maybe they were busier than expected and under staffed. I just love this place!!! Great location to sit on the patio and look over the river. I also love that the herbs are picked fresh there at the restaurant. I've actually seen them come out a grab herbs off the plants! HIGHLY recommend the Shrimp with Cous Cous. Not big on the mixed drinks, really stong but the wine is wonderful. Just a heads up when you call in and ask for a reservation make sure you ask to not sit in the entry way right next to the door! I made the reservation a week in advance and told them it was our 21 wedding Anniversary. I guess that meant nothing to them! It felt like we were holding the door open at a Cracker Barrel! We asked for another seat as there were other open seats in the back but the staff offered for us to sit out side (104 heat index) so we left as the staff wished us a happy anniversary!
