I've been a fan for many years (all 3 cafe's) and now they have a nice bar and delicious, fresh and creative Italian eats!! The panini & breakfast sandwiches are still delicious and made fresh to order, but I urge you to try an entree and a glass of wine! Last night I had angel hair pasta with an outstanding red sauce and basil meatballs - to die for! These ladies have a passion for food and they love to make their customers happy! My favorite sweet treat here is the lemon square, it's huge and it's delicious! (I know, LOL, but there's just no better way to describe it!) Went for brunch today. I do not understand how this cafe has 48 reviews with a 4.5 rating. The service was incredibly slow with a waitress who thought a frittata was served as a panini and took an order for omelette that was no longer available. I'm giving 3 stars as a nod to the others in my party who enjoyed the food more than me. We went here for the first time recently. We were seated (outdoors!) and given a menu with drinks and appetizers. We were told the chef would be out shortly to tell us about the 3 main courses for tonight; the menu doesn't list entrees. We waited and waited. Got drinks. Waited more. Got bread waited more. Finally (about 30 minutes) the server informed us that the chef had told her the menu. She recited 3 dishes. Why couldn't she have told us this 30 Minutes earlier? She had been serving all night. The only explanation we could come up with is that some customers gets one menu and some get another menu. In spite of the long wait the server was friendly, and at the end of the meal the chef came out and apologized foe the long wait. The others got the chicken parm and said it was pretty good. I got the broccoli chicken penne. The chicken was breaded, which really didn't go with the dish (but would have worked in the chicken parm). The sauce was a thin pinkish color. I didn't think the dish had much taste at all. I hate to agree with the reviewer who said she could make it at home from leftovers - if I had made this dish at home I would have added something - anything- to punch up the flavor before serving. read more

This was a surprising and totally enjoyable experience. Was walking by and popped in and spoke to owner Theresa who sat us promptly by the window. Place is small and maybe 6 tables but cozy and very warm atmosphere. I ordered the Limon chicken with garlic and my friend the meatballs. The food is prepared from scratch. Fresh ingredients and I was not disappointed. I've dined in every north end Italian restaurant and this place stands up to them (for far more reasonable price)! chatted with Theresa and her father who come from Avelino , Italy (hence the name) and really felt like being invited over to my Italian friends home for dinner. I asked Theresa for her recipe for her meatballs as they simply melted in my mouth-never has a meatball tasted so good!! She would not give up her family recipe so i'll just have to go by again. Highly recommended . Not fancy or pretentious , just superb tasty food as you'd find in the many small family owned restaurants in Naples and Rome that are frequented mainly by the locals. Opened last week in place of the defunct Sea View Cafe, Avellino's co-owners are full of optimism for their new enterprise. These ladies of southern Italian heritage are off to a good start. They offer a half-dozen pannini choices in two different sizes. They also have an assortment of pastries including cannoli that look good but that I haven't sampled. We did get three pannini for lunch, the Avellino, assorted Italian cold cuts, a portobello, and a spicy turkey. All received good marks, with the bread especially noteworthy. Maria told us that they would be offering several chicken and veal dinner entrees boxed to go from Toscana's in Peabody in a few days. Its great to see this spot filled so soon after Sea View's departure. I believe Avellino's is offering enough to be a success. Its a small place, seating for 12 or so, but taking a fresh pannini to eat at the beach or some chicken parm home for dinner ought to be popular with locals and visitors alike. read more

My cookie and coffee were delicious and after speaking with the very knowledgable counter person it sounds like they are gearing up for some improvements. I have a one-year-old and in my mad rush to squeeze grocery shopping in before bedtime, I left my purse in my grocery cart in the parking lot - mom moment... Anyway, after an hour of panicked searching I thought to look at my phone. These ladies had found my purse, dug up my business card and called me to let me know it was safe and sound. OMG - Total disaster. There were only two other people in the restaurant and it took the waitress 10 minutes to wait on our group of four. My beer was warm because the refrigerator was out and they were sold out of almost everything on the menu, only some of the salads and sandwiches on whole grain bread were available.
