I finally got a chance to come here. It's been listed as Chicago's first Pakistani-themed cafe. I like that they have long hours. There is a ton of parking available. I really like the look of the inside, it's very aesthetic and will likely appeal to these young American Tik Tok/IG girls. However, as Chicago's first Pakistani-themed cafe, I was hoping for a more authentic experience. I know their menu is half American and half Pakistani. I think 95% Pakistani would have been better. The pancakes, French toast, chicken cajun pasta, and chicken club sandwich, people can get that literally anywhere. The Pakistani food you can't. I ordered the paratha smash burger and honey cardamom matcha hot. The honey cardamom was great, not very sweet at all. The paratha was crispy and the smash burger was juicy. I really enjoyed the sauce on top of the burger. I would definitely come back here for that. Service was very friendly and helpful. I would give this place a 4. I would really love to see more Pakistani food on the menu as well as advertised on your social media. The Americanized food catering to Americans doesn't do the Pakistani culture justice. read more

Needed a quick snack in the way to the arboretum and ended up here. It was so cute and welcoming. There was an event going on when we arrived but they were happy explain things in the menu, take our order and seat us. We sat at the cute floor seating area and lounged with our snacks. We got the bun kabob, haleem and karak chai. The haleem has no business being this good at a cafe lol. The bun kabob's meat to bread to chutney ratio was perfect. Went with a bunch of friends to Cafe Bethak, and basically ordered the entire menu! First step into the place brings with it a lovely feeling of being "home" - not because the decor is very culturally inclined, but moreso because despite being decorated to the nines, it has an air of simplicity and comfort. The food was pretty good, and my ratings are as follows: Bun Kabab: truly a delicious bun kabab. Probably the BEST in the food scene around. Well balanced, no tomato (as is the correct way), perfect ratio of chutney that is well balanced. A 5 out of 5! The chicken club sandwich: chunks of flavorful chicken sandwiched between 3 pieces of bread, and lots of lovely layers. This one is a 4 out of 5! Chicken salad club sandwich: this one is actually exceptional - it's not chatpatah or spicy, but as far as chicken salad goes, it's rather flavorful and yummy. I just wish it wasn't a club, and was just this filling sandwiched between two pieces of bread. An amazing 4.5 out of 5! Dahi Puri: this was hailed as one of the best things on the menu, and it's rather good, except the dahi was tooooooo sour, and the chutney tooooo sweet. Felt like it was vacillating between two extremes. A 3 out of 5! Pani Puri: Pani both tart and slightly spicy, and completely chilled for your enjoyment. Definitely exceptional. A 4.5 out of 5!!! Samosa Chat: a beautiful blend of chickpeas, accompaniments and chutneys. Because the samosa was delicious, the chaat was automatically delicious! This one was also a 4.5 out of 5! Haleem: nothing to write home about. A 3 out of 5! The EXCEPTIONAL item was clearly the chai (that others had!) and the Rose Iced Coffee - both beverages truly delicious!!! This is a Halal cafe with chai and related items. Clean, well organized and plenty of parking. They are open late which is excellent for weekend festivities. Service is good. Chai is decent, they have multiple different type of South Asian flavors or chai. My favorite was Kashmiri tea. Would highly recommend it. We ordered their club sandwich, which was one of the better ones I had in a long time. Their bun kabab was good but very sweet with the sauce. My suggestion to the owner would be to revisit the recipe of your bun kabab. Finally, the best part of the night was their samosa chaat and beef Haleem. I would highly recommend it. They have such a cute vibe here! The space was well decorated and the staff was really helpful. We ended up getting the chicken salad sandwich and chicken club sandwich with fries along with Kashmiri chai. The sandwiches were delicious and well-portioned, fries and chai were also really good. Cafe Bethak is tucked into the corner of this plaza, so no visibility from the street. The interior is spacious and very colorful. It's fun. There's even some floor seating. The loud music was obnoxious, though. We ordered a Kashmiri chai and a Junoon chai coffee. My wife liked the Kashmiri chai, but it was less thick than other places because I think they used regular milk instead of condensed milk. The Junoon was okay. It was a mix of coffee and tea, but I felt the tea flavor was more prominent (surprisingly). As an immigrant, every now and then you come across a joint that makes an instant connection to your heart. This will probably ring well with first generation immigrants like myself. We were 7 of us this time coming in from a gathering a few miles away because one of us recommended this place. Honestly, it felt like home. This was at about 10 pm I think and the crowd was phenomenal. We all felt like we just came back home. Before getting into the drinks and food, I just have to point out the warmth, friendliness and welcoming demeanor of the owners and staff here really touched all 7 of us. Of course we were welcomed, recommended things, asked several times if everything was ok. And here's the thing guys; it wasn't a 'transactional' type of interaction that you get in most places where it almost feels like the staff is just doing their job. There was a genuineness in the interaction which you could tell. The chef came out to greet us and shared a brief on how he opened this joint up. Yeah, it's a hike for me but I loved this place so much I intend to make this hike often. Now to the mouth watering drinks and eats. We ordered a few different chais. The Sona chai (gold chai), Gulabo (rose), doodh patti, Junoon (mixture of tea and coffee), a dadh cheeni and a Kashmiri. ALL the teas base was EXCELLENT. I'm not much of a chai drinker cause I'm damn picky; I need my chai to be full fat, creamy. I don't like the watered down stuff. All these teas were rich and full of flavor. The gulabo, I wish there was that little extra hint of the rose in terms of flavor. The Junoon while an amazing concept, I think it might do better if they were able to make the coffee separately in milk and make the tea separately and the mixed the two together. What I got was a little underwhelming. There was the tea and then there was a touch of instant coffee on top and that's what gave the aroma of the coffee. Food, yeah we had some food too. We ordered a chana chaat which was EPIC. There was flavor, there was that slight tang and sweet. Hit all the flavor notes beautifully. I ordered a bun kabab. I LOVED the kabab. I didn't quite enjoy the other flavorings with it and I think I know why. I think for the quantity of other flavors (the sauces, onions, chutney), and the size of the bun, the kabab was quite small. I think you need a better bite of the kabab. Thing is, I've never been to Pakistan so I don't know what the actual bun kabab tastes like so the review on this one is highly opinionated. Then we had the rusks and naan katais. I have to say guys; the rusks and the naan katais are probably the BEST I've had in my life. The rusks were freshly made. We tried all of the flavors they had. The best part was that the chocolate on the rusks did not make the entire thing too sweet as it had just the right amount of sugar. The naan katai, so fresh. You could taste the butteriness of it. Came here for Sunday brunch and was so impressed!! The menu had both sweet and savory options. We went with the club sandwich and cajun pasta, both of which were SO FLAVORFUL with juicy chicken and incredible sauces. We had the tiramisu french toast, which tased exactly like tiramisu but not overly loaded with sweetness!! The matcha was DELICIOUS - ceremonial grade and a perfect blend of sweetness. My favorite drink was the rose Dalgona coffee!! Highly recommend it! Beautiful interior with room to sit inside and enjoy with friends and/or family. Lovely place to hangout with family or friends. Pleasant and ethnic ambience, very courteous service and amazing food. We ordered a bunch of different things bun kebab malai chicken rolls every huge hit and so were the chicken puffs, Nan Katai n chai tea options. We didn't like the sugar cane juice as probably in heat it tasted off, but they immediately replaced with a mango mojito which was delicious! Family friendly for sure...
