This looked like an interesting place so I decided to try it. Ban Mhi (grilled pork) was delicious. Bright flavors with all the veggies and cilantro. Bread could have been better, but not the worse. I enjoyed the flavor on my Banh Mi. There was a delicious sauce with good spice. The chicken was crispy and decent flavor as well. I wasn't impressed with the bread itself but we all have our off days but it would probably have taken this to 5 stars. I also had couple of the waffles to go and this is where things kinda start falling apart a little and literally. They came on a stick but you couldn't really hold the stick up as the waffle was too heavy so I didn't understand the concept. It still had good flavor though. They Ube waffle was different but I didn't feel I tasted any "ube" like I am not sure it added anything except the color. I had the smoothie as well and that was very sweet and didn't taste natural so that I didn't like but I am sure others might. I definitely would have preferred a more natural smoothie. We got the grilled pork banh mi which is sweet and savory, topped with cilantro, and fresh crunchy veggies. Optional to add an egg. Bread is soft on the inside crunchy on the outside. It's 10 pm and we wanted to have a relaxing end to the night with some boba. We pulled up to the location ready to try it. Looking in through the window, it seemed very shady and also not clean. Barely any tables or lighting. We open the door and are about to enter when all of a sudden a dog starts running towards us. It wasn't on a leash. It must've been owned by the owners because they were just nonchalantly telling it to stay while I was gearing up to kick it if it came any closer. I closed the door and we left. I love tea! So I was stoked to learn my group had an event to try Mo'Tea & Bahn Mi. This place has a ton of options! DRINK: I ordered a passionfruit green milk tea -25% sweetness - with cheese foam topping. (My combo 3/5- my fault. Their recommendations 5/5) Next time I'd order this as a fruit tea or try a different combination for the milk tea. I originally wanted a black, but then couldn't decide on a flavor. The lady at the bar recommended brown sugar, saying it's one of the most popular. But, since I don't like super sweet things, I told her I was leaning more toward peach black milk, since I like peach black tea. Then I changed my mind and went with Passionfruit green milk tea with salted cheese foam. It was good, but I agree with her; it would be better just as a green fruit tea. Unfortunately, I was craving milk tea. :) Of note, although it's not mentioned on their menu in the store or takeout menu, you can order it with less sugar. I almost always get 25% sweetness, so that's how I ordered this one and I think that was perfect for me. I forgot to say no ice- but that's my bad. Cuz I always end up with the cheese foam at the bottom that I can't get out of the ice and then it gets watered down. So if you're like me and a huge cheese foam fan (theirs is excellent btw), order it with no ice so you're left with foamy goodness! I can tell their teas are good. My combination was good but not great and that's my fault. My combo 3/5, but their ingredients and recommendations 5/5 FOOD: I wanted to try one of the Bahn Mi, but the chef left yesterday to celebrate Chinese Lunar New Year in California- woot woot! Happy Lunar New Year Chef! So, I tried the fried tofu. (3.5/5 flavor, 5/5 tofu) You get to choose how spicy, so at first I said medium, but then she offered to put it on the side, so I selected that. I chose the sweet chili sauce, but she through in the boom sauce as well- both on the side. The fried tofu was cooked perfectly- crispy on the outside and soft inside. It came in a cute to go box- you know the ones you get from an Asian restaurants? The spice powder definitely has a kick, but I didn't taste much salt, which is unfortunate. I think if I added salt it would be great. The sweet chili reminds me of mae ploy which I love. The boom sauce is a mayo based sauce. STAFF: (6/5) The staff is super sweet and extremely helpful. My advice if you are indecisive, get one of the drinks on their recommended menu- it's on the wall next to the register. The rose milk tea with Sakura crystal boba sounds wonderful! Thanks to Yelp elite, I discovered this place, which is only about 10 minutes from where I live. My husband and I were ready to try the banh mi sandwiches (never had these before), but it just so happened the chef was out of town on the day I showed up. I was totally clueless on the types of bubble teas. The ladies working were pretty helpful, but I feel like this is the kind of thing I'd have to try multiple times with different varieties to figure out what I really like. I ordered a fruit green tea with blue raspberry and passion fruit poppings. They described it as little flavor bursts in your mouth, which I enjoyed! I don't typically like the tapioca pudding balls much, but I found out my husband would rather have that than the flavored poppings. He also had a mango pineapple smoothie, which was quite good. I ordered the calamari with boom boom sauce and some Cajun fries to try. I'm not a big calamari expert, but my husband thought it was good. I did enjoy the boom boom sauce. The fries were spicy (ordered mild) without really having much flavor. Maybe I'm just a salt addict, but I would've preferred they had more salt. $5.50 for an order of fries seems kinda pricey. In my opinion, they weren't anything special. They were out of sweet potato fries, but I was interested in trying those as well. It took over 20 minutes to get my food and drinks, which seemed excessive to me. Especially since we didn't get any sandwiches. Had to pull into the nearby Burger King drive-thru for some more sustenance, so Mo tea definitely doesn't rank as "fast" food as it took 5 times as long for the same amount of items. They only had 2 ladies working there, so I'm not sure if they were short staffed or if that's the normal wait time. The tea came sealed which was good for me. For the Banh Mis we got Grilled Pork ($6.75 +$1 egg), Pork Belly, and Crispy Chicken. The Banh Mi with the egg was excellent and definitely worth the extra charge. The others were alright and could use a bit more flavor. The snacks were truly the highlight. We got Ube Waffle ($3) and Pandan Waffle ($3). Both were out of this world bursting with flavor. It wasn't just fragrant but you could actually taste the ube!!! We got caramel drizzle and it was just amazing. They are the thing to order. For drinks we got Lychee Snow Bubble ($7.15 L, boba), Mango Pineapple Smoothie ($8.15 L, boba), and Jackfruit Smoothie ($8.15 L, boba). Unfortunately, the drinks were not worth it at all. Thanks to Yelp I found another gem in the Chicagoland area. I personally love bubble tea, street food, and banh mis, so it wasn't hard to convince me to come out all the way out to Naperville for this. This is the cutest and colorful place, and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. The girl at the counter is very knowledgeable about their menu and was willing to answer my questions which I can appreciate. I ordered their black milk tea with tapioca and no ice. I haven't had a 100% sugar in my drink for years, but it was still good. I probably wouldn't get the tapioca topping next time and just stick with the egg pudding. I also added egg pudding to my drink, and it's the perfect addition to any boba in my opinion. Since I had looked at their menu prior to arriving, I wasn't going to walk away with just a cup of boba after a 24 mile drive each way. I ended up ordering their crispy chicken spicy flavor, Cajun fries mild flavor, a pork banh mi and a chicken banh mi. This is some of the best crispy chicken I've ever had, and when they tell you there's a spicy option it's actually spicy ok. I probably should've picked mild so I can have more of it without having that burn sensation after a few rounds. I couldn't resist not digging in on the drive back. I was taking a few bites of the chicken and the fries while sipping boba and driving -- this is the life. I couldn't wait to get back home to try their sandwiches. I came to try three flavors. Almost 20$ in drinks. One worker made 2/3 of the drinks and called for another person to make the last one because a slight rush began. This person was the only one not wearing a mask. He began to prepare my drink, clearly unsure with what the recipe was; forgetting the Milk for the milk tea, etc. When making the drink, and adding the milk after it was shaken, he then uses the metal mixing spoon to taste the drink. The spoon is put in the sink and then apparently washed and then uses the same metal spoon to stir my drink again. We are still very much so in a pandemic. UTENSILS USED TO PREPARE FOODS SHOULD NOT BE GOING INTO THE MOUTHS OF EMPLOYEES!!! A quick rinse is appropriate between flavors (and even then that can be argued because of food allergies). I'm expecting anything that is put in another persons mouth to be soaked and washed in very hot water. So now I'm out about 5+ dollars because the immediate response was not to make me a brand new drink, instead they try to insist that the spoon was washed in the small sink behind them. Yo... it's 2021. We aren't accepting this right now. Anyways, rose flavor milk tea - not bad. Very pretty flavor. 8/10 Lychee- 6/10. Both could have done with more boba. read more
