We had a perfect happy hour sort of late lunch at Fish Company Taco. For me: six oysters on the half shell, the daily crudo, and a Captain Johnny's shrimp taco washed down with a generously poured Chardonnay. For Dan: a dozen oysters on the half shell dressed to the nines - the man uses every add on available. Had I not paced myself, I would have been through with my six before he even started! He also had the crudo and he helped me with the crispy delicious fries that accompany Captain Johnny's shrimp taco. His drink of choice was a Red Stripe. Y'all it was so, so good. The oysters were perfect in size and flavor, the crudo had a punchy Asian sauce with sesame seeds, and the oddly delightful shrimp taco and fries knocked it out of the park. My husband and I finally made it in for lunch! we'd been meaning to visit ever since we heard that Pier 6 (one of our all‑time favorites) had opened this spot. The menu is small, but everything we tried was incredible. We started with the crudo: fresh fish with an amazing salsa macha oil. Absolutely delicious. Then came the fish dip with saltines: smoky, creamy, the perfect appetizer. My husband ordered the Vietnamese taco, and wow... to die for: Fresh, crunchy, salty, sweet, spicy, every bite was a hit. We also tried the Captain Johnny taco with curly fries. The fries were great, and the taco was pretty good too. Of course, we had to get the Hot Blooded Oysters, a must! cheesy, buttery, and spicy. I couldn't wait to try out this spot on our day trip to Galveston. We went for a late lunch around 2:30 on one of the first 'in season' Saturdays. There were 2-3 parking spots in front of the restaurant but ample street parking near by. The place is very cute but with how good everything was they deserve a bigger place! We waited in a line at 2:30 pm to order. We definitely missed out- they have an epic happy hour from 2-6 that everyone else was partaking in but with the chaos and crowd of the line we didn't pick up that menu. I'm hoping they pick up more staff as the summer goes on as the poor cashier was also bussing tables. Even so, everyone was friendly and trying their best. Any time I'm in Galveston I make sure to make a stop at Fish Taco Co. They are located a couple of blocks from the seawall and can usually find nearby parking. They are a cute cafe size spot with some outdoor dog friendly seating and a few tables and bar seating inside. You order at the register and get a number and find a seat. They offer happy hour daily so make sure to check them out. Their agua frescas are really good and refreshing. They offer several flavor and taco options that would sure to please the group. My friend recommended this place to me, and I'm glad I decided to check it out. They have happy hour until 6 p.m., so we were in luck when we came for lunch! We decided to try one of each taco, as well as the Vietnamese wings, weekly crudo special (which happened to be salmon), burger, and the hot-blooded oysters from their happy hour menu. Our favorite tacos were the baja and shrimp tacos, but all of the tacos had great flavors with a unique twist. The Vietnamese wings were also very tasty with a lot of flavor, and the hot-blooded oysters. I wasn't a huge fan of the salmon crudo, which needed more flavor overall. Fish taco used to be one of my favorite restaurants on the island. The restaurant is open Thursday through Sunday and features a fresh catch of the day in the tacos until they run out for the day. There are several ways you can have your taco done- Vietnamese style, Korean style, Hunan style, etc. I had stopped going for a while because their tacos kept shrinking in size, however, while that has not really changed, I recently revisited and was still blown away by their taco flavors and the freshness of the fish. They also did a complete renovation of their interior space which now offers a clean and ecelectic dining experience. You really can't go wrong with any taco that you choose here. The viet style is my personal favorite. The freshness of the seafood cannot be beat, although some pieces of fish could use a tad bit more seasoning. While I probably won't be visiting as much due to the steepness of prices, I think the food really does live up to the price tag. This hidden gem is hopefully becoming not so hidden anymore! I visited before they closed down and was so excited when I heard they were back! The vision of this restaurant is using fresh, locally caught fish and making delicious fish tacos. They have a shrimp option too, but I am unsure if the shrimp are fresh catch too. The chef uses flavors from other cuisines in the tacos, creating a variety of flavors. I ordered the Baja and Korean fish tacos. The Baja has coleslaw and carrots with a green sauce to add on. The Korean inspired taco has a gochujang type sauce that was slightly spicy and tasty. All tacos are freshly made to order. The tortillas seemed to differ based on the order, in case that is something you care about. We came about an hour before closing and were the one of two parties there. Service was quick and friendly. They also have a happy hour with $4 tacos and many $6 bites and cocktails. I am looking forward to checking it out as the typical $7 per taco price tag is kinda steep. The place is also newly renovated with a modern, cutesy shop aesthetic. If you've been there before, you'll be glad to know that the AC is working very well now. Service was good, our checkout person was friendly and gave us a rundown of what was on the menu because it was my first time. I was really excited to see some of them had an Asian twist to them. I ended up getting the Dirty South and the Catch of the Day. I forgot the name, but it was inspired by Jack in the Box's tacos. You order at the counter, and they'll bring the food to you. Also free water cups. The tacos are small but pack a nice bite. The fish and shrimp are super fresh. And the flavors all paired perfectly. I also got to try a bite of the Korean Flavors and Baja. Stopped by Fish Company Taco for the first time on a Tuesday for their happy hour. Apparently they recently renovated, and their interior was gorgeous. I was amazed by how many options were on this HH menu and how cheap everything was. I opted for a $5 cocktail, the signature fresca called the Cactus Flower (per their menu: "cactus flower, lemonade, playful prickly pear, and dragonfruit blended with fresh citrus"). For the frescas, you can customize the alcohol to be put in your drink, and per the bartender's recommendation, I paired it with run. My friends ordered the Mango Tango signature fresca (per their menu: "passionfruit, mango, lemonade, bright tropical explosion of ripe mango, fresh citrus, and exotic passion fruit") paired with Tamarind Smirnoff. Both drinks were absolutely delicious - packing a punch and being deliciously refreshing, FOR ONLY $5 EACH! This is the cheapest happy hour drink special I've ever encountered. I always go to get their oysters which are fresh and large; I can never decide between raw or hot blooded oysters. My adoration and love for Fish Company Taco runs deep. Like the Gulf of Mexico! It is so exciting to see the new interior and the new front (that is a big winner). The food is very similar to the original owner (although I think the tortillas are not as good and thicker). The spicy oysters and oysters are a great addition. Can you fry some for tacos instead of fish or shrimp. I am so curious about that. Sometimes for days I have these tacos in my head and can't stop thinking about them until I go. All the original tacos along with the hot blooded oysters (one of my favorites at Pier 6), flounder crudo, smoked fish dip and a couple of the signature cocktails.
