It's been a few years since we last came and today we finally got the chance to visit Galveston and thought about checking them out again. First of, for a Saturday evening, we were kind of expecting that it will be crowded like it used to. But no, there was one other customer and she had hers to-go.. I thought well maybe this is just a slow night so we went ahead and ask for the menu. A young girl was at the front and she asked if we're new to Henry's and I said no . I asked if there's new ownership and she said no they are the grandkids and the grandma used to run the business. My husband went for the usual tostadas. I noticed they had a new item on the menu that I used to not see before which was the Menudo. And I went ahead and ordered that. The boys ordered a chicken fried steak sandwich and a chicken quesadilla. The tostadas are NOTHING like the pictures I posted originally. Tostadas were smaller, the beef tasted super salty. The rice that came with it barely has any flavor. The refried beans tasted like it just came from a can. The signature white sauce was also nowhere to be found. Husband asked for it and they said they don't have it. As for the menudo, while the meats were just right (not too hard or too tender), the broth is so bland. My hungry boys ate what they had but wasn't too impressed either. With grandma out of the picture, it's evident the quality of the food has also gone out the window. Overall, a HUGE disappointment. Huge burritos, great service, delicious food. The surprise burrito is definitely filling. Today I had their migas (~$7) and a side of carne guisada (~$7). The migas were very good but I didn't see an option to add onion, tomatoes, and peppers. So they came plain, I added cheese. I was not disappointed but expected the veggies. No biggie. The carne guisada was a little different than TexMex carne guisada. This was more like a beef stew with carrots and I think yucca (it didn't seem like potato). The meat was extremely tender. It's a great local place and the service is excellent . Can't wait to try more from this place. read more

We came here for breakfast. Not a large selection but the chorizo with eggs breakfast was amazing! It came with beans and French fries. The refried beans were the best restaurant beans I've had in a while. I thought French fries was a little bit odd but they went together very well. Homemade tortillas and incredible green salsa. Hot and full of flavor! They have a large lunch and dinner menu. Our 2 meals with coffee was only $20.00 before the tip! Love this place! read more

Just ate lunch from the drive through at Henry's. I had the fish plate, three large fried fish portions, generous portion of tartar sauce, side salad, and French fries. This was pretty good, it's on par with similar places like rice's on Broadway in Houston, and the Timmy chans locations. This is for fish, I don't try the other stuff they serve. The reason I don't give this place 5 stars is, the drive through menu doesn't show prices, I asked for hot sauce and they have me salsa, they charged $1 for water cup (I get it). While I was overall please with my experience, this place needs to take the time to put the finishing touches on the restaurant (the building, food, service). I will be back to get more fish, or maybe try something else. read more

Don't miss out on an amazing local dining experience by passing by Henry's! It may not look like much, as a big orange/yellow drive thru building off Broadway, but holy moly the food is insane! I've never had a bad meal, or bad customer service and I've been dining here for over a decade. My husband has sworn that the burger here is the best he's ever had and has eaten them since he was in college at TAMUG. Todays review is about the burger, el savadorian enchiladas, and the heavenly papusa. Seriously the pork papusa is magical. Hands down the star of the show!!! We just tried this place and it was super delicious, had amazing service and everything was very fresh. Prices for the authentic mom and pop experience are incredible and I will be going back to try the burritos! We got the pupusa with pork and the chicken quesadillas. We also got a side of chips and guac and they gave us chips so hot and fresh that they burned my finger on the drive home!!! Incredible!!! Also the guac serving was huge!! "On November 8 2025 at 11:45 am my daughter and I were denied entrance to the indoor dining area at Henry's because of our trained vested service dogs. The restaurant was not busy. I had already placed my daughter and service dogs at an outside table. The cashiers attitude was very short and insisted we sat outside and said we where not allowed inside. This is a violation of the ADA. This incident was embarrassing and discriminatory. She said they would knock on the window when the food was ready. She never offered a delivery of food to our table. We are expecting Henry's to rectify this by retraining its staff on ADA laws and ensuring equal access for all patrons." read more

We tried out Henry's today and HOLY CANNOLI...... sooooo good! We had Salvadorian food and Jay had the pupusa plate that were stuffed with pork chicken and beans and cheese and I had the Tacos Hondurenos plate and HOLY SMOKES..... it was AMAZING with TONS of flavor!!!! It was like flautas stuffed with chicken and stuff and topped with heavenly goodness! Even Jay said mine was better! Lol! I always see a crowd at this place, so I decided to stop in. It's an order-at-the-counter and pick-up-when-ready restaurant. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas plate and I ordered the beef taco plate. We asked for a coke and got a huge glass bottle. The total was $20. After paying, we were given no receipt and they did not ask for our name. I asked how I would know when the food was done and the young lady answered they would call out our order. We sat down and waited. There was a huge crowd including many children and I realized there were quite a few in front of us, so I wasn't too worried at first. But, eventually after waiting 1/2 hour, I asked about our order. When I asked, the clerk asked for my name. When I said they didn't ask for my name, she yelled at the young girl and sent someone back to check on my order. It eventually came out a few minutes later. The food: The fajita plate came out with a tortilla about the size of a dinner plate (burrito size) and enough chicken to fill several normal size tortillas. We tried to put most of the chicken on the big tortilla, but it was too hard to handle and the meat fell out and tortilla ripped. There is too much meat for the tortilla in my opinion. The beef tacos were good. They were tacos size and easy to handle. The meat was tasty. Each platter also came with rice and beans. As someone who is used to eating at Tex-Mex, I expected more ingredients for the fajita. I would have liked lettuce, tomato, and cheese; maybe some salsa. So for me, the food was missing something. It felt like Mexican fast food, and perhaps that is what it is. That would explain why it was inexpensive and so many children there! I would recommend you try it at least once as it's a very popular place and my food background may have put a negative on this that others would not agree with. Personally, I won't be going back. I did go back to order a 2nd coke and the lady at the counter gave it to me for free since I waiting so long; so they are trying. Probably just a bad day for service. read more

Pretty dang good pupusas. Got the Pupusa plates for ~$9. Comes with 4 pupusas, rice, and retried beans. Got 2 chicken & cheese and 2 pork & cheese pupusas. It came only sizzling hot and crispy. But Lol they all tasted the same to me. The cheese definitely overpowered the meat so it was like eating a pan fried grill cheese. No complaints here! I was so full after 3 pupusas. Tonight really just pushed over the limit, we ordered 3 things on the menu .:20 piece chicken nuggets .:Surprise burrito .:And a 2 meat burger meal dry with only cheese We went thru the drive thru and it took 20 minutes WHICH IS NORMAL HERE APPARENTLY?! So get comfy cause you WILL be there a while. They first tried to send us away with out the nuggets, and we told them we were still waiting on them. We then receive them moments later and we leave because we had already been there for 20 plus minutes in the drive thru burning my gas up and I live in Jamaica beach so I'm just trying to get home. Henry's has the best breakfast burritos in Texas. Hands down. Fresh homemade tortillas. Fresh eggs and bacon and cheese and beans and potatoes. Or any combination of those. Very cheap to buy. Very friendly folks working there. The green sauce is fantastic. The ground beef enchiladas are also a perfect basic TexMex style. I am a major enchilada critic. Have eaten enchiladas all over Texas and New Mexico and some in Mexico too. Henry's is an excellent example of a good fresh basic TexMex style. Their beef fajita burrito is an excellent basic TexMex style as well. Very fresh veggies. Perfectly seasoned and tender beef. Fresh homemade tortilla. Very cheap. We get Henry's burritos for breakfast almost every morning. The funny thing is that since we started doing that, we have lost weight, because we get full and satisfied, and then eat way less throughout the day as a result. Totally unexpected side effect!!! lol Since we go almost every day, because it's so good, and so cheap, and the green sauce is so good.........I have started experimenting with saving up the green sauce to cook with instead of eating it with the Henry's food. I now make a fantastic Henry's green sauce and Hatch green chile roast beef once a week, and have also made killer Texas gulf shrimp Creole with Henry's green sauce as a major secret ingredient. When Texas had the ice storms we ordered 15 burritos every morning for a 3 days and took them around to feed any homeless folks who weathered that storm outside. Henry's was able to quickly put together our large order and depressed out all the sauce for me, so I could cook with it. haha One major reason for my stellar review, and for incorporating Henry's into my families life is that the food is so fresh and good, and unlike so many options for quick food, it isn't too salty!!! Properly seasoned. Not too salty!!! Worth saying again. They season it right. Even the ground beef for the enchiladas. Rare. So, yeah, the building is old, the decor and exterior paint are a little odd(perfect), but don't let that deter you. Henry's is a genuine island gem. Galveston loves Henry's. True local flavor.
