8.6.26 Never been here before. The restaurant is quite large and even has a private room you can reserve for parties. It was very busy here. This one of the few restaurants that is open past 9pm during the weeknight. We original went to another restaurant but it was a poop show so we left. The service was not bad and not great either; just average. I ordered a chicken quesadilla and it had a ton of meat. It was really quite good. (Minus the tomatoes and guacamole (it had tomatoes) I ordered sliced avocado and when it was brought out it was rotten. The waitress was nice and took it off our bill. Service is fast and friendly, which is impressive given the crowd is usually a mix of loud, sun‑soaked tourists fresh off the beach and some locals. Chips and salsa hit the spot, and the food is good, just not particularly distinctive. The menu is huge, with the kind of "big operation" feel where dishes are clearly designed to move quickly rather than showcase anything unique. Parking is the same story it's always been: not nearly enough of it. Most people end up in the Academy lot next door, and it's been the unofficial overflow for as long as anyone can remember. Salsas was the last stop on our Galveston mini vacation. This place isn't a frequent island stop for us. But it's got good food, good service and that classic Tex-Mex atmosphere. I ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas and a Spicy Cabo Margarita. My wife got the Galveston Special on the lunch menu. The Margarita came out first. The drink was best thing about this trip. I got it with tajin and salt on the rim, so you got a salt sip on one side and extra spice on the other. The ratios of alcohol, orange liqueur and lime juice were perfect. The spicy tequila with jalapeño in it added another layer of flavor. The food came out shortly afterwards. I was weary of the yellow sauce on the enchiladas, I'm used to a cream sauce. It took a bit to get used to but it was good. The shrimp was kind of limp. They didn't seem to have been grilled before hand and didn't have that snap. My wife's Galveston Special was light and refreshing. It was a cold plate with a tostada, taco, guacamole, and queso in a tortilla bowl. The salad and tomatoes were freshly crisp and bright. The queso was good and had layers of flavor. I am an unapologetic lover of Tex-Mex and Salsas is a classic representation of the genre. It's got all the usual platters and since it's on the Gulf it has seafood too. It's always good when we eat here. *side note- the chips with red salsa and green salsa are really good. read more

Came in on a busy Friday at 7pm. We were ushered in promptly and seated with warm chips along with salsa. Servers were quite attentive considering the establishment was quite busy and turning over tables quickly to get everyone fed. I enjoyed the generously portioned beef fajitas, which the thin slices of meat were perfectly marinated and seasoned on a bed of grilled vegetables. As a local, I was super bummed when I sat in the bar and could hear the staff arguing over who had to take my table. Especially after seeing them service multiple tables that sat down after me and bar patrons repeatedly before coming to even take a drink order. I should have just left then, that's my bad. After a 30-minute wait, we finally got seated--and it was absolutely worth it! We had Juan as our server, and he was incredibly kind and attentive--not just to us, but to all of his tables. The Strawberry Sensation was amazing and is definitely a must-try! The queso was delicious, and our meals came out hot and fresh. Really disappointing experience. There were four of us and we ordered two fish taco plates, a mariscos shrimp cocktail, and a fish plate with shrimp and crawfish. The shrimp cocktail came in a small square dish and tasted like basic cocktail sauce with shrimp. It didn't resemble authentic mariscos or a proper coctel de camarón at all--no fresh lime, cilantro, or real flavor. The fish tacos and seafood plate were also pretty underwhelming, and the quality didn't match the price. Our total came out to around $90, which felt very overpriced for what we received. It's near the seawall, but the surrounding area felt pretty rundown and the food definitely didn't justify the cost. This is a very big restaurant, as well as, a very busy restaurant. I had high hopes for the food. I ordered the "Cancun" on the menu. It came with a ground beef enchilada, a crispy chicken taco, a crispy bean tostada, rice, beans and guacamole. The plate was larger than my husband's and daughters meals. It was standard fare, as far a Mexican restaurants go; however, when I picked up the crispy taco, the bottom part of the shell was all soggy, since it was right beside the enchilada, which was covered in melted cheese. The same thing with the tostada, part of the shell was soggy from being on the plate. I was a bit surprised that these two items weren't put on a separate plate, instead of being lumped together with the wet food. As far as the atmosphere is concerned, the restaurant seemed a bit bare, and not more festive. The ceiling was completely bare, and not highly decorated, like a lot of Mexican restaurants. The music was only audible from the bar, which was closer to the entrance of the restaurant. My overall rating for this establishment is just fair. Good enough, but not exceptional. read more

We were barely seated when the complimentary chips and salsa hit the table followed by ice water with a lemon wedge. Looking around I noticed that this place has tons of seating and they even have a banquet room for special events. We like the fact that their happy hour is from 11 AM till 7 PM M-F. You do get an actual menu to order from, not a QR code, but everything is handled on their handheld device. I really enjoyed their big burrito generously filled with beef fajita meat and they make a very good tortilla soup. If you're not a fan of refried beans, you can always substitute them with a side of Borracho beans for $1.75 more. Their version of Tex-Mex is pretty much in keeping with any decent quality Tex-Mex restaurant. I do like the fact that they'll drop the check at the table before swinging around with the handheld device to finish the transaction. Service was great and we left full and happy. My family and I go to salsas at least twice a week for lunch and have noticed that the hostess with the long black hair isn't very welcoming. When we arrive she always greets us with a frown and never says hello just "how many?" then drops the menus as if she's in a rush. I usually just smile and go about my day but this afternoon my husband greeted her with a huge smile and shouted with a very friendly "Hello! How are you doing today?!" The first time I tried this restaurant, I actually ordered the same thing I ordered this time; the steak quesadilla and it did not disappoint! The reason these ones are so good is because the cheese they use is a white cheese (I wish I could remember which kind) but it's much better than your basic yellow cheese (in my opinion). I will say that this is my favorite thing to get here and I've tried quite a few different things and I always come back to these. The steak is cooked perfectly, there's an abundance of cheese and the tortilla is fresh, crisp and nice and warm. You can also opt to get veggies and mushrooms inside, which I tried for the first time this last time around and I was pleasantly surprised! It really added to the flavor of the entire dish and the texture was actually really good. I'd say the service is pretty good as well. Our waiter that we had was really nice and pretty accommodating too. I had a question about a margarita I had ordered and I was worried I wouldn't like it and he offered me to try it and if I didn't like it, he offered to get me a different one since I had some confusion regarding the certain margaritas. I thought that was really nice! Overall, a good experience here and I really do like the food so I will absolutely coming back the next time I'm in Galveston. read more
