This was my filet mignon with creamy polenta and veggies
    Candy H.

Last night, me and my boyfriend and his daughter were in there for dinner. I had ordered the filet mignon my favorite dish. There was a glitch in the system, as to where they did not receive that order, but then realized after my family was then served their meal I was patiently waiting, not bothered at all not upset. The manager came out and went above and beyond to make sure that we were OK with that I was completely fine for I'm a waitress as well. At the end of our night we got the bill and they said that the flight was on them and they felt extremely terrible for what had happened even though that was not necessary I was beyond grateful and thankful for this kind gesture their service is always top-notch and their food is even more amazing. It's one of my favorite restaurants. Thank you for the service and amazing food!!

We had a very good meal and absolutely outstanding service which earned Cafe Cruz a solid 4-star rating. I had the spicy Devil's Ginger vodka martini with the calamari appetizer and with dinner, the Lava Top Sauvignon Blanc ($13), a perfect complement to the swordfish. My swordfish was perfectly sautéed in a tapenade beurre blanc sauce ($40) with deliciously creamy and decadent polenta and buttery chopped bok choy. The way they served the bok choy was perfect- never change it. It was artsy, buttery and didn't look wilted. My son had the grilled boneless pork chops (two boneless chops) with fries and smoky beans ($28), loved. He devoured the berry fruit crisp à la mode for dessert ($12) and I had two small bites: It was like granola over compote with ice cream. I didn't complain. The best part was the incredibly flawless service. We could have felt rushed dining since it was towards the end of service. Instead, Genevieve paced the meal perfectly so we felt spoiled and unrushed. Next visit I would love to dine in their "secret garden" courtyard; it was beautiful. Their 'secret garden' would be beautiful for a private party like a birthday or wedding anniversary, bridal or baby shower.

Cafe Cruz is such a gem of a neighborhood spot. You can really feel that it's family owned, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff goes above and beyond to make you feel taken care of. The service was attentive without being overbearing, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I ordered the salad niçoise, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The ahi tuna was incredibly fresh, honestly sushi-grade quality, and perfectly prepared. We also tried the fish taco salad, which was just as delicious and packed with great flavor. The kid's meal was a nicely portioned with the option of two side dishes to go along with the burger.

You know what they say..." expect bad service for Valentine's Day weekend" . That's what we got . We ran out of water and drinks. We didn't get offered bread.... Not sure why. Our server took forever to come back and check on us. At least the food was good. I loved my Cruz sandwich. It tasted fresh and flavorful. My husband loved his pasta dish. They seemed extra busy , the outdoor area wasn't as full as inside the restaurant so I felt like we were forgotten about. At least it looked cute out there. We had to ask to turn on our heater, it was like 48 degrees out. Eh the typical service anyways I would come back but not on a holiday.

What a great find! Their back patio is absolutely gorgeous, and we were pleasantly surprised to find plenty of indoor seating as well. I ordered the Blackened Fish Taco Salad & I opted for the Rockfish, as that is what our server recommended. The salad was beautiful plated & the taco chips served on the side were so soft & flaky. I wish I had asked for extra dressing, as I normally do for my salads, as that would have made it a 5/5! My husband ordered the Pastrami Reuben with a side of Coleslaw. My husband ordered the Pastrami Reuben with a side of Coleslaw. The combination of savory pastrami, gooey Swiss cheese, tangy Russian dressing, and sauerkraut was delicious. The service was friendly and efficient, and we would definitely return to try some of their other dishes.

The entrance to the restaurant from the back. Doesn't look like much but looks can be deceiving.

I made reservations at this restaurant for a dinner to honor and reminisce about my mom who had passed away in October. A family member recommended this place and it couldn't have been any better. There were nine of us and the restaurant was large but had a comfortable and cozy feeling. The service was excellent and the food was very delicious. We started off with drinks and appetizers and they were fantastic. We had fried calamari, shoe string onion rings, fried artichoke hearts , marinated olives, and French fries to start and they were excellent! Hot and fried to perfection. Our entrees were varied to ribs, steak, rotisserie chicken , and halibut. I can't tell you enough how good everything was. The prices were reasonable and the service was excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely be back. Get there early because parking can be a problem.

I am lost and found. I didn't know my purpose in this life was to taste the 3 beet salad. The chunky beet was juicy, the thinly sliced was mouth watering pickled, the dried one was crunchy. All that is not enough to pink my heart, the genius Chef, then slapped on 7 overweight shrimps. Lovely outdoor seating made food tastier If I die, place this beet salad on me. Beet lover

I spent a long time trying to figure out where to eat. I was looking for somewhere that would be great ambiance, welcoming for kids and with fantastic food and plenty of options. This restaurant hit all the marks! I couldn't have been more pleased. The outdoor patio was so cute and they had plenty of heaters to keep us warm. We ordered the calamari (so fresh and melt in your mouth), chop salad and the short ribs. I am so glad we went here, would definitely come back

Nice restaurant, but very nice outdoor dining. We were seated right away, and brought water. But I'm not sure whether it was time we got there, but it took a bit to get a server. When we placed our order it did take a long to get it our order. We did order an appetizers but they arrived about the same time as our food. I had a chicken sandwich, my husband had calamari. My sandwich was delicious it had crispy onions a different twist. My husband liked his calamari. It is one of the best places to eat in our area. We just needed a little patience.

I came here recently with my family and a friend visiting from out of state. We enjoyed our visit! We had made a reservation for the enclosed patio, but the host informed us that our party of 5 wouldn't be comfortable in that area. We were a little surprised and disappointed because we had been planning to sit there, but not a big deal. I love how many different spaces Cafe Cruz has. The dining room with an open kitchen! The dining room with a big and cozy fireplace! The large patio! The smaller enclosed patio! What a wonderful atmosphere. My stepdad recommended the Chop Salad and a glass of the Storrs Chardonnay. This was a great pairing and I highly recommend it. Our party also ordered the Maryland crab cakes and we all loved them as an appetizer. For mains, others ordered sandwiches as well as the beet and prawn salad. Our server was friendly and helpful. Parking is tricky but luckily there is a big plaza across the street!!

Since it was an off-time, I also had the whole patio to myself. I ordered the Garden Gimlet (which I finally learned with a hard G, like "gift"). The drink arrived ice-cold (which hit especially well on such a hot day in Capitola) with a balance of punchy fresh lime juice, delicately herbed syrup, and the classic botanical sophistication of gin. The drink also comes with a decorative edible flower. I don't know my flowers too well but of the two different flowers I had in the two gimlets I ordered, both had a very subtle licorice flavor (nothing at all close to jäger) and an herbaceous quality. Pro-tip: dip the flower in the drink for an even more complex experience. The drinks and the ambiance were both excellent but the service took the experience to the next level. I had the pleasure of being served by Erik, who is normally the bartender but was also my server today. He was extremely knowledgeable about the menu, and served a consistent and delicious drink each of my rounds. I certainly benefited from it being slow the afternoon I visited because I got some extra time to chat with Erik about some of the things on my mind that brought me to grabbing a drink overlooking the water in Capitola. Definitely say hi if you see him working sometime; he's a wise soul.

In hindsight, that's partly on me since seafood fettuccine isn't exactly a dish I usually expect to be exceptional anywhere. The Alfredo sauce was bland and needed a lot of pepper to bring some life to it. Most of the seafood was overcooked and chewy, particularly the fish. The clams were probably the best part of the dish and were cooked reasonably well. Overall, the view was fantastic, but beyond that, the meal didn't do much for me. Between the slow service and underwhelming food, this ended up being one of the worst meals I had on my trip.

I wish there was more than just 2 blossoms because we definitely could have just kept going. -pork chop entree special: so juicy!! the variety of flavors were so good. The corn mousse was delicious and not too sweet. If you wanted more sweetness, the au jus tasted almost like honey on the plate. Squashes were perfectly cooked and light to balance the flavors of everything else. Great grilled taste too. -peach toast: just great!! Sweet and a little savory from the buttered toast. Nice palette cleanser almost before our entrees 9/10 for the creme brulee: solid. Fun creme brulee top but very thin layer. The sauce was like a tart apple caramel that nicely balanced the sweet and creamy cake. 8/10 for: -pasta entree: fresh pasta was soo perfectly bouncy and soft. Sauce was balanced and light. Nothing crazy but I liked it. Partner thought it was a bit normal -pork belly starter: very flavorful and yummy but can be a bit salty on its own. Partner and I wish we could have had some mashed potatoes, bread, or white rice with it but then it would probably be more of an entree very good though! Eggplant sauce was lovely even for those who don't like eggplant normally. This also had mushrooms. 4-5/10 for the tuna ceviche because it mostly just tasted sour. I liked the cherry tomato and basil addition, but it needed some spice or more tomato and basil to balance out the sourness of the lime. this was the only dish I wish we didn't get I'd recommend this place for a nice date night! There is a small patio outside. I think they MIGHT accommodate pets out there. There is also a small elevator lift for those who need an accessible way up. Otherwise, you'll have to walk up a few steps. Kitchen is in the back but in an opened lay out. You can see them cooking everything if you sit at the bar or facing that way. Probably better for small groups or couples rather than a large party. We made a reservation at 7 and were seated promptly. Seemed like a full house all night. May need to wait a bit for walk in parties.

I saw they opened a newer store in north Santa Cruz in a new and hip retail complex called The Swift Street Courtyard. That one seems to be more geared toward prepared foods/product as that complex is a food and drink destination, breweries, wine tastings and coffee shops all around. This one is mostly a raw fish market. Mostly filleted and pan-ready items. Not sure if you can request a whole fish here but my guess is you can if you establish a correspondence with the employees. But in a small cooler up front they also have some prepared seafood items ready to grab n go. They have tuna poke, some ceviche, and some smoked salmon deviled eggs. They may have more things but the slowish day I went, that seemed the selection. Rockfish Ceviche ($14/4*) my receipt said halibut ceviche but the container label said rockfish. Not sure what I got but the nice chunks of fish were nice and whitish from the citrus cure, clean and meaty. Which ever I got, it was delicious. Everything was in nice big chunks which I tend to like more than when Mexican places finely chop it to where you can't really identify anything anymore. Only thing I wished I had access to were some squirts of hot sauce and some tortilla chips. But since this wasn't a sit-down resto situation I had to make due. Smoked Salmon Deviled Eggs ($8/3.5*) You only get 3 halves so basically an egg n a half. I think they should give at least 4 halves to even things out if being shared. But the smoked salmon is beaten into the yolk mixture so you can't really see or identify it. Upon chewing the deviled egg, you will taste a smidge of smoked salmon. It's not strong or in your face but it will remind you that something else is there. I wished it were more identifiable or obvious, but it was still pretty tasty especially with the hits of tobiko. They had one of my favorite Asian brands of iced green tea which was a nice surprise. And after swimming and lying around on the hot beach down the street, this made for a refreshing snack break. Even though I wished there were better seating and amenities this filled a void on a weekday when the restaurant upstairs was closed. Nice find and I'll try and buy some local fish from their market next time I'm around. And I sure as heck am gonna try their newer and more visible location.
