I can't say how authentic the Peruvian food is as I've never been to Peru but the food is outstanding. I had the fried pork dinner it was a little spicy but it was fantastic. My granddaughter had a pasta and spinach that was the most recognizable meal for people that have never eaten Peruvian before. As we are passing through from Canada to California we have had many stops before arriving in Springfield, M.O. We didn't exactly know where to go in this town and was given a list by the front desk at our hotel. After Yelping! from the list we decided Cafe'Cusco it is. Once we've arrived we were taken by the exterior of the building, it is beautiful. We were greeted right a way by a charming waiter and seated at the front window enjoying the street view. I ordered a Lemon Basil mojitos to give myself a little pick me up from a long day on the road. My sister ordered Beef Heart on a skewer for an appetizer, it was amazing. For our main dish I ordered Arroz con Pollo and it was a little bland but fixable with salt and pepper. My sister ordered Beef Saltado and it was perfection. The service was fantastic, our waiter was so attentive and attractive. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. read more

Disappointed with everything but the appetizer. We ordered Lomo Saltado. We have been to two other Peruvian restaurants in other states that were much better. The French fires were soggy, tasted more like mashed potatoes in a tomato brine, they cooked the tomatoes whole and so they were soggy as well, not crisp. The rice was subpar, nothing special there. Wow! For a small city dining experience, this place really is unique! I'm vegetarian, so finding dining experiences like this in unexpected places is a treat. I looked this place up as part of my trip planning when I knew I'd be passing thru Springfield and am glad I got the opportunity to try it out. Atmosphere is very inviting & both the food and cocktail menus are uncommon indeed! I started with one of their "Pisco" cocktails that features their own unique blend of moonshine - yum! I then ordered the veg. version of Puca Picante - spicy, unique and nothing like I've ever tried before - I wasn't "wowed", but it was quite good nonetheless. My 12 year old was adventurous (for her :)) and had the Chicken Para Rayos - she enjoyed it much to my delight (I tried the sauce, which wasn't too spicy but very tasty). And my mother had the Black Olive Trout, which she thought was quite good as well and was pleased the fish came out well cooked & not too dry. We all shared the Torta de Askinosie - OMG it was SO good - you wouldn't know (or care) it was gluten free if the menu hadn't said so!! I happened to be in Springfield on a business trip and stumbled on this place through Yelp. I ordered take-out and had the tequeños, yucca fritas, and Mama's Drunk Goat. The golf sauce and basil aoli that came with the yucca fritas was really good. Not being familiar with yucca, it was drier than I had anticipated. The tequeños were what fried mozzarella could only hope to be, that is very flavorful. The Drunk Goat was very filling and delicious. I arrived early to pick up and had a few minutes to look around from the waiting area. I really liked the decor, a little dark but funky. This is in an older area of town with beautiful old commercial facades that appears to be an area that is undergoing a rebirth with restaurants and art. I wanted to go again to try the beef heart kabobs, but didn't get the chance due to time constraints. I would definitely go back and eat in next time I'm in this town. read more

Belated review here, but I'm confident it will always be this way. My husband and I go here regularly for lunch on Sundays, and it's always a good choice. My go-to is the Aji de Gallina - if you google it it will come up as a "Peruvian creamed spicy chicken", which sounds so much less appetizing than it actually is. Theirs comes with a creamy spicy sauce, shredded chicken, rice, and golden potatoes - I add their house hot sauce for an extra kick when I want it (Seriously, when will they start bottling that stuff for sale?!). My husband got the quinoa burger, and he loved it too (he usually won't go near vegetarian options anywhere we go, so this is a big compliment). The upstairs is separated by stairway and is used as overflow seating, but can also be booked for private parties. The atmosphere is wonderful, the staff is friendly, and it's always a nice little place to take a break on historic C-Street. On top of all that, the lunch specials are between $8 - $11, and usually 2 meals' worth of food. Completely worth it, and it's number one on my "new place for friends to try". read more

My husband and I discovered Café Cusco in January of 2014. We instantly fell in love with everything about it. The food, the service, the atmosphere, the prices. We have been going at least once a week ever since. It is our perfect date night. Whenever I recommend Café Cusco to family, friends, and strangers (yes, I do that often) I always tell them that there is something on the menu for everyone. I arrived at 11:45, and was told they had been slammed but would have it ready soon. I took a seat, paid my bill (tip included even on carry out) at 12:10 I was still waiting for food. Flagging someone down, I got my food at 12:15. 45 minutes seems an extreme amount of time.
