Looking for someplace at the last minute to have Easter dinner. Luckily they were open! Our server, Lexus, was great! She was very attentive and friendly. My daughter and I both had the catfish nugget dinner. Our side were yams, greens and macaroni and cheese. Everything was delicious. For most of our visit, real nice jazz was playing in the background until a patron complained (really?!) and so the music got flipped to RAP. We did not appreciate that. For dessert we split the red velvet cake (our second choice because they were out of banana pudding). The cake was dry - perhaps it sat out in the open uncovered. The icing was great tho. All that being said, I will go back to try some of the more traditional creole dishes on the menu. And hopefully they'll have banana pudding. read more

Welcoming environment. I ordered on DoorDash so I could pick up on my lunch break and it was ready and still piping hot. I started eating in the car because I wanted to taste it while it was fresh. The yams were well seasoned and sweet. My baked chicken was juicy and falling off the bone. It was so savory that I almost did not have any left by the time I got to work. I also enjoyed the green beans and I like that they had potatoes; this adds to the heartiness of the meal. While the macaroni looked wonderful and I could see the seasoning, I was hoping to taste more herbs. I still ate them all, but they were bland. I've been following this restaurant since they opened and was very excited to meet a friend here for dinner. Nothing special from the outside. When you first walk in there is a pick up window and some fridge cases and that area is also just regular, but the restaurant side is decorated beautifully with a selfie wall and a New Orleans vibe. It feels cozy. We ordered fried green tomatoes to start. They were cooked to perfection, though we didn't love the sauce. The menu has so many good items on it I had trouble deciding but I love shrimp n grits and ultimately ordered that. I did ask about the sauce on top - if I could get it on the side - as sometimes I don't love a sauce. They said no, but they did assure me it was not a tomato based sauce, it was their special sauce. Friend got the catfish with yams and mac n cheese. Both dishes came out looking delish. Unfortunately I did not love the shrimp n grits - the sauce was fine (which btw is only on the top so no idea why it couldn't be on the side), but the dish was so salty I couldn't eat it... I took a few bites hoping it would improve, but it didn't. Had friend try it in case it was just me, she couldn't eat it either... sad bc those grits has a perfect texture :( Friends catfish was AMAZING, would def order again, but the mac n cheese wasn't good. Dry, grainy and lacking flavor. The service was mediocre. The waitress did take our order and answered a few questions, but she didn't seem like she wanted to be there. Don't be optimistic; Trust the reviews. It was fine. Just fine. The candied yams were like regular canned yams. The green beans were alright. The fish was cooked too hard, through breaded well. While visiting STL, we went to this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. We ordered drinks and the only thing they had for beers was Angry Orchard; Bud signs posted everywhere. The waitress asked if we wanted plates for our appetizer, to which we replied "Yes". She brings out 3 plates for 4 people. Plastic Spoons and forks, no knives. Still waiting for the entrees. I ordered smothered pork chops and had to ask for a knife. Remember, we had plastic cutlery initially. They bought me a stainless steel knife. Really. My husband canceled his order (he ordered the catfish plate). This restaurant is terrible and should be shut down. Service is terrible, food is not good, and the live music on 2nd and 4th Sundays was terrible. The only people who would frequent this restaurant is wanna he's. The food was well prepared. The seasoning was perfect. The texture of the fried green tomatoes and the soul rolls were crispy and crunchy. The crawfish étouffée was great in the proportion size and was prepared well. Last, but not least the ambience was very welcoming. The entire restaurant was clean and comfortable. I like this place. It is Mardi Gras themed and has a decent amount of seating. I went at 1p on a weekday and I ordered the turkey Ave greens gumbo. They were out. Ordered the regular collard greens to go with my fish. They were out. So I ended up with rice and beans and spaghetti. I was skeptical of the rice and beans initially but they had a nice flavor. The spaghetti gave what it was supposed to give. Although I wish the fish was a bit more seasoned, you get plenty of it in the catfish nugget place. I will definitely be back to try the soul roll and the gumbo (hopefully) another time ! read more

I really wanted to like this place. Drove 30 minutes because we heard great things. Table was open, so they were not packed and nobody was waiting when we arrived. Took 15 minutes for someone to bring us water - without asking if we wanted anything else to drink. We ordered apps and our food at that time. Sunday Brunch, 11a to 3p, I popped in about 11:20a, party of 1 and seated promptly. Service was friendly and moved expeditiously. Brunch Menu offered Shrimp and Grits, so I figured I'd go that route, but those VooDoo Fries made me curious, so I got them too! Fries came out first in about 5min. Hot and fresh. Cheese Sauce, LaSha Sauce and Sour cream. I appreciated that the Fries weren't drowning in the sauces so that they weren't soggy and still had that fry crisp. The LaSha sauce had a hint of sweetness which paired well with the Cheese sauce. The sour cream didn't add much, can do without that. The Shrimp and Grits, huge bowl came out and definitely plenty of Grits in there. About 8 Shrimp and a few peppers and onions with sauce were on top. The flavor of the sauce and the shrimp elevated the Grits. It was just so much Grits! I saw some items coming out of the kitchen for other tables that I'd definitely like to try, so will be back again. read more

When I arrived at the restaurant, I waited 5 min or so at the hostess station. There was only one table occupied at the time. When the hostess finally greeted me, it was, "yes?" and she appeared rushed. I advised I needed a table for 2. I was seated, my guest arrived maybe 8 min after. In that time I had no water and had not been acknowledged again. When my guest arrived the hostess sat her and then quickly said, "It's just me and I'm working the other table so yall gotta be patient". We had no water still and waited 10 min before water and having our order taken. As we started ordering the waitress would say, oh we don't have that oh we dont have that and she chuckle. We finally ordered and after 20-25 min my guests fish came out, her side of mac came 15 min after. My sides came out 1 at a time 20 min after my guests food. I ordered 3 sides 5.00 each and an order of shrim. The bill revealed the shrimp was 15.99. I asked why each item was charged separately and the server stated, "oh you ordered all sides, shrimp is a side" WHAT!?? The drinks were trash and she didn't know what a Washington Apple was because she's only been able to drink for a year. Ok so wtf thought it was ok to let you bartend. The people in the kitchen, a bunch of young peopl, were rapping and singing so loud we couldn't hear the jazz they had playing in the dining are. As well, no one had on hairnets. The place was very clean and ot had a Mardi Gra theme, do t know of its year-round, though. The meatloaf was okay. The corn fritters were cooked too hard. The corn bread was good. The collards greens was a no go, and the macaroni was a no go. The wings lacked flavor. Catfish was okay, but they should remove the black stuff off of it. The food did come out ho, and the wait wasn't too long. Fries were medium hot and a tad bit greasy. Good size portion, though, for what you pay. The candy yams were good. Received a flyer to this establishment & after reading their menu decided that I had to check this place out since I am a person who enjoys visiting new food establishments. I tried visiting on 4/24 since their flyer said that they were open Mon - Sat 4pm to 9pm. I understand things happen, but a new establishment just opening should be ready for business & have all items advertised..They had no signage anywhere saying that they had no Pork Chops or Desserts & I was looking forward to trying the Pound Cake & Banana Pudding after reading reviews on their website. I ended up ordering Shrimp & Grits to replace the Smothered Pork Chops. The prices were fairly reasonable & Customer Service was pleasant as they apologized numerous times for not having items.. I returned home & proceeded to eat my meal that I had ordered. I like & try to support Black Owned establishments as much as I can. The Shrimp & Grits were OK, they were eatable & I did like the size of the Shrimp & the amount of them, that were in the dish. It did seem to have alot of grease in them. Overall they were fair & I might or might not order them again. Their was really nothing that stood out about them. They did give me a nice size portion. The Chicken Wings & Waffle were good. The Waffle had a good flavor to it & the Chicken Wings were nice size & meaty. My only issue would be there was no seasoning on the Chicken Wings. It was my 1st time at this establishment & I will probably return to try some other items & definitely try the Pound Cake & Banana Pudding.
