Hotel clerk suggested we go for lunch (I had said we were looking for Mexican food). It was right around the corner from where we were staying. We walked in to a very large space, not a traditional Mexican restaurant for sure. Looking at the menu, I was immediately disappointed as I was in the mood for a taco salad, and their salads, while interesting, definitely not a taco salad. I suggested to my wife that we look for a Mexican restaurant on Yelp, and she said let's stay, the menu was interesting to her. The waitress informed us that it was BYOB, so no margarita for my wife, but we hadn't unpacked our cooler yet , so we had a few cold beers in the car. Phew, close call there. The waitress suggested the crab nachos and we took a chance. Wow! Wow! First of all, the chips were their house made potato chips. Thick and crunchy and seasoned perfectly. There were bits of scallions and green peppers in the pile of crab meat which had been put under the broiler and browned. Then a really delicious dressing was applied. It was a huge pile of tastiness! I don't ever order the "nachos" that are simply a pile of tortilla chips smothered with some excuse for cheese and top with a bunch of jalepenoes, as I learned to make individual nachos topped with refried beans, a little slab of Monterey Jack and a slice of fresh jalepeno, in Texas about 50 years ago. These crab nachos, while visually evoking the pile of chips and cheese that pass for nachos nowadays, were far from that. They were great. That was our lunch! When deciding where to go to eat, Cafe del Sol is almost always my first choice. The food is always fresh off the grill and flavorful. They have a great selection of food on their menu that never seems to disappoint. It has Italian, Asian, and Latin influence. We visited Cafe Del Sol on a Saturday night. I was surprised it was pretty dead inside for an evening night out. The atmosphere was nice, our server was friendly. We considered leaving briefly because Cafe Del Sol does not have a liquor license - it's BYOB, which we didn't know. Instead my boyfriend and his friend went next door to buy a six-pack. The food was good. We ordered the crab nachos as an appetizer, and our friends ordered the spinach dip. I really liked the nachos, and a bite of their dip was pretty good too. The nachos were really good, although there wasn't much crab on them. I ordered the regular chicken quesadillas. The portions were very big! Four big quesadillas with a side of sour cream and spicy salsa. It was pretty good, nothing too special about the quesadilla but I did enjoy it. My boyfriend ordered their cheesesteak pizza and said it was "okay." My friends ordered the chicken and spinach quesdilla and a short rib burger; they liked those too. If you're a fan of BYOB, then this is a good place for you. Since we were just in the area visiting, we'd probably try another restaurant out next time. read more

Stopped in for lunch with a couple friends...definitely should have chosen a different place. It was such a disappointment. Our server, Shawna W., spent more time on her phone call than taking care of us. She actually had the audacity to come to our table 3 times while talking to someone on her personal phone. She felt that opening mail was more important than making and serving our drinks, when they finally arrive they weren't even what we asked for. Her one appearance without her phone call was to drop our food off where she practically slammed the plates down and turned to walk away before making sure we didn't need anything else. We won't be having lunch here again anytime soon! read more

We love Cafe del Sol, the ingredients are fresh and the food is served quickly. The potato skins are one of our favorite appetizers! We ordered a couple of items for pickup, one of which were the crab nachos, which I personally wouldn't order again for takeout. It cost around $11, and we got maybe an ounce worth of crabmeat. Like the rest of the condiments, it wasn't evenly distributed over the chips like nachos should have been....on top of that, although the crab was okay, it didn't have the distinct fresh crab taste like you'd expect. This place was just ok. Not as bad as a chain restaurant but not good enough that I would want to go out of my way to come again. My Cabo sandwich lacked in flavor and the salad it came with was laced with slimy old lettuce. My friend ordered the artichoke spinach pizza that was tasty but not amazing. They also do not serve alcohol but have a wall of wine bottles?! The decor is fun and modern but if the food isn't great then it really doesn't matter how nice the decor is. Cafe Del Sol USED to be an awesome local place to eat. Then a few years ago (maybe they changed owners) they tried to get "fancy". Fancy in Chambersburg meaning just charge double the price and people around here love it. Hey it cost more it must be the best right...? So anyway the prices more than doubled overnight and the whole atmosphere changed in the place. I don't mind spending decent money for food but the place is basically a deli. Or similar to something like Panera. The food is ok but not worth the price they charge ($9 for 4 mozzarella sticks!?) The final straw was that I go in to pickup a take-out order and now they are trying to guilt you into tipping! That's right, on a take-out order. It's "for the cooks" they say. Really? You want me to tip the cooks for a takeout order? Last I checked cooks didn't work for tips. Also, you're charging crazy prices, you can't pay your cooks? I'm donzo with this place. Let the hipsters pay double for their food if they want to. I'll go get much better food for the same price or the same quality for much less. You know it's kinda like seeing someone you knew back in the day that was pretty cool and now they've turned into a complete D-bag and forgot where they come from. That's the best way I can describe the feeling of going there now. Edit: Let me clarify, Cafe De Sol opened in Greencastle long before the Chambersburg location opened. This was my first time going to this restaurant and it was excellent. I had the crab nachos, fish tacos and red rock bisque and all of it was amazing, I wish I could have finished it all! Food here is excellent and waitstaff is friendly and efficient. Each time we've been here it's been very clean. A big plus for me. The one thing that needs changed is they are not schooled in transitioning your meal. If you order everything at once it all comes at once. So we have to sit on our menu and wait till we are almost done with our salad, then order the appetizer, then wait and order the meal. We've had 3 different waiters/waitresses mention that they don't pace food at this establishment so it's best not to order it all at once. What? This is a very good restaurant and there isn't another restaurant we attend where they don't know how to bring the courses to you came correctly. The appetizer was severed at the exact same time as our meal, so we felt very rushed. The pickle was very very old and the fries that charge extra for were very old, cold and not very good at all. The server Casy asked how the food was. I asked her if she wanted an honest answer, her reposne was 'I don't know'. So rather than trying to make the situation any better she came back and asked'so with that being said, would you want any desert?' The moment we said no and keep in mind we have not had the food on the table for more than 5 minutes, she dropped the check on our table. Worst experience we have had ever!
