If you like home cooked food, not the cookie cutter franchise food this is your place. The food always seems to be good, the staff is friendly and quick. It's not a fancy place but a typical family friendly restaurant. Casual but with some variety of foods on the menu. They also have a seating area for groups. I'm not sure how many so I'd call to check. Go try them out!

Menu, very small breakfast choices bottom right.

Pros- Nice menu Friendly Servers Reasonable Priced Good food Cons- Limited breakfast menu Unfriendly hostess. First time here, in the door your greeted by a hostess who to be honest, seems like she really hates her job, just not very nice. Putting her aside, I found the establishment to be roomy and clean. Our server was "Trudy" who was extremely nice and attentive. They have a large menu but breakfast is limited. I ordered the Ribeye Steak Sandwhich medium rare which came with fries and a small side of Cole Slaw. The sandwich was huge, cooked perfectly but was a bit fatty but flavorful. Ditch the bun as it just became way to soggy to eat. The fries were good, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside and i ordered a side of brown gravey for dipping. The coleslaw which I hear is made in house is some of the best ive ever had, creamy, sweet and just good. Bottom line- This little jewel hidden in a strip shopping center is definitely a must try when in Gettysburg.

Tourist town dinner. This one locals goto. Sunday morning and this place is packed with people. Service was quick and friendly. Fully staffed! I have not been in this place in 20 plus years. This place sits in a strip mall. Parking is not a problem. Prices for the most part are reasonable. And the place looks clean and comfortable. I'm not really a breakfast person. Eggs and pancakes etc are not me. I can be very picky on what and how I order. My meal came out exactly as I ordered it. I wish there was more to it. But in fairness I really didn't need it. I would order it again.

We make the trip from Virginia to Pennsylvania on a regular basis. We plan our trip north with The Gettysburg Family Restaurant as our dinner stop. Always good food! Always a great staff! Always a good value! Enjoy and leave a nice tip. The staff deserves it.

Of the two servers they had, we had the worst of the two. She disappeared from the floor for long periods so it was difficult to even get a drink refill. Ended up sticking with water as the one cocktail I had was clearly a mix and also seemed to have no alcohol in it. Appetizer selection was limited to seafood or onion soup. Don't like seafood? Tough luck. If you like seafood with some variation of Old Bay then you'll probably like this place. Although there are much cheaper places to eat if you just want basic northerner seasoning. The restaurant was not advertised as a seafood place otherwise I would have avoided it. I ended up ordering a steak, which came with a salad and a potato. The salad and potato was the best part. Despite ordering the steak medium rare, it was unevenly cooked and dry with a leathery exterior. I would have sent it back but I didn't want to spend another hour trying to get someone's attention to resolve it. If I ever find myself in Gettysburg again, I will be sure to eat elsewhere, this was not good value for money.

We always are cheerfully greeted, and we are seated immediately because it was right after lunch and right before the dinner rush and we sat in the bar area on a high top and it worked out perfectly. Our server was outstanding. She came over got our drink order and if we wanted any appetizers which we did not get this time, but let me just say their appetizers are to kill for they are outstanding. As you can see in the photos, the burgers are done right they are nice and juicy and the toppings are just right in the buns are so fresh. It's crazy. So if you're in the Gettysburg Square area, we highly and I mean highly recommend stopping in here for either a burger or one of their other options which are all really good food well prepare prepared.

The order was not ready and my husband came out and said it looks like no one is running the place. Not particularly good start. He went back inside ten minutes later and waited again a bit before getting the food. Went to the Hampton Inn and opened the bags. it was a simple order of crispy chicken with Caesar salad and a grilled salmon and a side order of colemslaw. The grilled salmon was there but no Caesar salad .. just a brown box with some crispy chicken strips. And no cole slaw either. Back we went to Ruby's and husband went inside.. I waited a minute then went in also as I was not happy. The girl said she forgot the Caeser salad... then presented the saddest looking excuse of a salad.. just romaine lettuce thrown into a container... the manager came out and was very nice when I lost it.. I was tired from the long drive and this was just lame... she said she would make it right and she came back about five minutes later with freshly made croutons, which were very yummy..we will be going back again this weekend for a return trip and will try this one more time. If they mess up again we will have to find somewhere else for take out. The young girl at the desk needs to pay attention more to what she is supposed to doing. The manager was friendly and did try to make it right.

He said that "You are transported back in time the moment you step into the place." He was not wrong. Though it was late evening, there were still tons of people waiting to get in. We were starving but figured the wait must mean the food was worth it and...it was! We chose first available and were seated at the bar in the corner. It was nice because we didn't wait long to be served and we had I nice view of the entire restaurant. A very rustic place that looked as I would imagine it did in 1863. My friend ordered a Caesar salad, fillet, and a baked potato. The salad came with a freshly baked yeast dinner roll. Fillet was cooked to perfection. I ordered the King's Soup which was French onion soup except with large chunks of tender beef in it. My entree was the Spring House Salad which was mixed greens, apples, walnuts, chipped smoked turkey, with herb dressing and it was divine. The sleeper of the meal was the datenut bread with cream cheese that came with my salad. A dark brown molasses bread with dried fruit and nuts. We both went with the dinner specials, which were only 14.99 each and came with two sides. I ordered the ribs and my husband got the NY strip with butterfly shrimp. For the price, the portions were honestly huge. My ribs were fall off the bone tender and coated in a tangy BBQ sauce that had just the right balance of sweet and smoky. Easily one of the better diner style rib plates I have had. The fries were natural cut, perfectly seasoned, and had that ideal texture where they are pillowy inside with a light crisp on the outside. The succotash was simple but still good and comforting. My husband's steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and had great flavor throughout. The butterfly shrimp were crispy and paired really well with the steak. His side salad was super fresh with iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomato, onion, and shredded cheddar. I did not even get a photo of it because he immediately dug in and loved it. The service really stood out too. Everyone was so attentive and quick to help with anything we needed like extra napkins or more sauce. It felt very welcoming and genuinely cared for. The interior has that true hometown diner feel where it seems like everyone knows each other. It is mostly booths with some tables and even a classic counter with stools, which gives it that nostalgic diner vibe. With both meals and drinks, our total was under $40, which feels rare lately for portions and quality like this.
