My wife and I have driven past this place hundreds of times over the last five years. After running errands in Chambersburg and heading home, we decided to give it a try for breakfast. We each had an omelet. My wife had the Greek omelet, I had the bacon and cheese omelet. Both were very good. My wife really enjoyed hers. The homes fries were good, not bland like most diners/restaurants we have gone to. The coffee was also good, not bitter like many coffees can be. The service was pleasant and attentive. We were sat immediately. There are booths on both sides of the dining area and tables in the middle. The main dining area can comfortably sit approximately sixty to eighty people. There is also a sit down counter as well. What struck me most, was how well laid out and comfortable the dining area was. For a relatively small restaurant it was quaint very clean and comfortable. I was impressed with how some of the booths had frosted glass partitions with nostalgic photos embossed on them. The restaurant also had a cute small electric wooden train running above along the ceiling. The kids really enjoyed watching the train running. I was surprised with the low review ratings from some of the customers. We will be back for lunch or dinner. I feel comfortable recommending this restaurant. read more

Had breakfast here. Been here a few times, staff is always nice and attentive. Coffee is ok but I've had better. Sometimes bitter. Food is consistent and good, they give you plenty. Cost is reasonable. Diner type atmosphere. Clean and usually busy.overall good place for breakfast. read more

A cute diner with very friendly staff from entrance to server. The food like any diner is cooked to order. It's pretty good but my husband had asked for his potatoes to be extra crispy and it wasn't. We shouldn't clarified that he wanted it more on the burnt side. It still tasted good. On the menu their chipped beef seemed to be their specialty. It was really good, I liked a little bit more saltier but this was good still. My husband loved that it was creamy and no as salty. So if you're watching your cholesterol, the chipped beef isn't that bad. I ordered pancakes, they are huge! So there are quantity options, if you're not a big eater, one pancake is filling. All in all, not bad for a quick bite for breakfast. read more

Rating my 1st and most likely the last visit as unfavorable. It started with our entry into the place. One of the servers glanced up , scowled, and went about her business. We decided to make our way to an open table, assuming this is the thing to do. Our actual server was much more pleasant and earned the positive stars of this rating. To be honest, he appeared to be one of the few positive attributes about the place. Very unsettling feeling otherwise. The food we ordered was below average as far as taste and appearance. Based on other reviews, you might be safer ordering breakfast. The dessert case featured generic, pre-made pies and cheesecake, which helped the decision to pass altogether. We were told to pick our seats when we went in. Our server didn't come over right away, maybe she didn't know we sat there. When she finally came over she seemed a little mad, looked grumpy, but she then started to smile and apologized for not coming over right away. Everything is priced nicely and I ordered a club sandwich with fries and my husband got a burger and fries. A table that came in after us got their food before us, but they only got hotdogs and fries. My club sandwich was BIG, packed full of meat, cheese, Lettuce, and tomatoes. There was a large side of fries and they came out hot. My husband's burger was cooked just the way he wanted and he also had a large side of fries. We had so much food that we ended up getting boxes. I took 1/2 my club and over 1/2 of the fries home. I will definitely be back, the food was very good and we got large portions. read more

Tried this "diner like" old time restaurant for the first time last week. Service was quite good, the restaurant was clean and neat, and the comprehensive menu featured everything from breakfasts to lunch and dinner entrées. My wife and I shared the four appetizer sampler... Fried cheese was very good, the onion rings were outstanding, the chicken tenders were very good, but the chicken wings were only fair. My wife had the salad with fried chicken tenders and ranch dressing which she rated as only "good". I had the cheesesteak sub and the portion size was outstanding (very large) but the flavor of the grilled steak meat was rather bland. I had to heavily salt and pepper it to suit my taste. I would rate it as "good" All in all a good lunch with very generous portions but I really can't say that the food was outstanding. read more

Yeah, I had to get past the name but once I did that, New Texas Lunch is the place to go for breakfast. First, the place was crowded with locals and regulars. That's always a good sign. Second, my hostess had a bit of a "Flo" attitude. That was awesome. I like sassy. And third, the menu is simple and easy. I chose the cheese omelet with home fries and wheat toast. A few minutes later, my meal arrived. A nice, big omelet loaded with cheese, a big pile of tasty home fries and four halves of perfectly toasted wheat bread. I do so enjoy it when my order is right. Turns away the hungry. a couple dozen of us in a group that feeds and provides resources for those experiencing homelessness or just very close to having nothing bought a couple dozen gift cards to this restaurant. We received almost all the cards back. Texas Lunch refused to serve our friends in Christ. I urge people with any call to love our neighbors in Christ to consider eating elsewhere. I saw a black family (only one in there at the time) be refused service once and thought there was more to it. As a community we should not tolerate this discrimination. They also refused to refund the gift cards. read more

Maybe it was the time of day- not sure but We had the special; fish and mac/cheese. The fish was fine but the mac/cheese had to be sitting out all day. The waitress was kind and likes chat and made us feel welcomed. I made sure she got a good tip because the food didn't. I probably wont be running back anytime soon. Been going there for years. Food and service usually good. Been bringing in mobility scooter usually no problem. Last visit someone was in the way so I tried to go a different way and was going to park in where I usually do and get a nearby table as I cannot walk far. The food is very decently priced for such filling portions, not to mention it was all very well made, and the servers/staff there were so very friendly! Tried going in here to eat today. Opened the front door and was barked at by a waitress that we were not allowed to come in because they close at 3:00PM on Sundays. Walked out, looked at my phone, and it was only 2:40PM. We are not the kind of people to knowingly show up to eat at a place just before closing hours and if we had been aware they were closing at 3 wouldn't have tried. However, this was an extremely unprofessional way of handling this situation by the staff. My wife has been a waitress at multiple restaurants in the past and if a customer came in just one minute before closing they had to be served. Stopped here for a quick lunch. I ordered a bowl of chili and a hot dog with everything (chili, mustard and onions). The chili was very flavorful, nicely seasoned, with a nice amount of beans. The hot dog was grilled, it had just the right amount of mustard and the onions were nicely chopped and not overpowering. My only complaint was that the bun was a bit crumbly. The prices were very reasonable with the hot dog priced at $1.59 and the bowl of chili priced at $2.49 or so. read more

My husband and I have been going here for years and have had a few not-so-good breakfasts. The last one has us going elsewhere for breakfast. My husband's breakfast was cold. He sent it back only to have it microwaved. The over easy eggs that were ordered were now hard. Needless to say, only about one fourth of the meal was edible. We complained to the female owner at checkout who just brushed us off and charged us full price for the lousy meal.
