Good, cheap buffet. Adult is 8.95 before tax, after tax is around $10. I've been looking for a good low cost buffet for a while now, and am glad to find Cafe East 3! All I really expect from a buffet is a few dishes that I like that I can binge on, and I'm happy to say the Kung Pao Chicken and Lo Mein are really good. The dumplings here are good as well, a little on the blander side, but still good. I tried the sushi, and sadly it's very dry, which I suspect was from it sitting out for a while. It's not bad, but it's not good either. Orange chicken is okay too, but the chicken is a little tough. Soft serve is good, although you can't really ever go wrong with it. Only tried the watermelons out of the fruits, but it definitely better than expected. Service is good, the server came by very often to check on drinks, etc. Overall, I have to say I've found a regular buffet place to eat at, especially for this price point! read more

My family and I used to be frequent costumers of the Mason Rd location at Katy (we don't go that often now due to the poor menu), but yesterday (Sunday) we were around the area and decided to stop at Cafe East 3 at HWY 6 and let me tell you we were impressed not only for the nice and quiet atmosphere but also for the variety of entrees and desserts this location offers! We definitely will be coming back and preferably on a Sunday that way we can ask for Sam, our sever, who was very friendly and polite. Their parking lot had vigilance, a plus definitely! read more

This was our third time dining at this establishment. Food is always good; the sushi bar could use a bit more variety, especially some sashimi for non-rice eaters like myself. Wait staff has always been friendly and attentive. The reason for only 3 stars is because of what happened this evening. We came in around 4pm (Sunday Sept. 16), the place was pretty crowded. Some of the staff were taking their lunch/dinner breaks, including a man who I originally thought was a customer. He was standing near the kitchen entrance next to the dinner rolls. A female kitchen worker came out with a platter of pork dumplings to be put on the buffet. But this man stopped her, picked up the dinner roll tongs, and helped himself to several dumplings, then put those same tongs right back on the dinner roll platter! I asked the woman about it, she said he was a MANAGER!! I asked her for his name, and she first said she didnt know his name. I asked, "You dont know your manager's name?" She very nastily said, "He has a Chinese name, and I don't know Chinese!", and walked away. I asked the woman running the register who confirmed his name... Matt! REALLY! Doesn't sound like a Chinese name, nor very difficult to pronounce much less remember! When I told him he should replace the tongs, he rolled his eyes, angrily picked them up, then had the dumpling lady replace them. He passed our table several times, but offered no apology. I don't believe the staff should be helping themselves from plates not yet on the buffet, probably filling their plates in the kitchen is more proper. But a MANAGER doing that, then using tongs which are for something totally different, then putting them BACK is just nasty! Matt needs to be filled in on BASIC proper sanitary rules! I've dined in twice and was very satisfied neither the food and service. I had it delivered last night and could not have been more pleased. I ordered the egg drop soup and it was to die for, it was as hot and fresh. The shrimp fried rice was beautiful, bright and flavorful. Went there to eat this evening. Had a waiter who let us sit down no more than 25m in she brings us our bill. We clearly were still eating and talking. It would've been fine if she just left it but she continued to walk up to our table hinting for the bill to be paid. She only did this to us no other table. Guess she assumed black people won't pay for the bill. It was extremely uncomfortable. Before we would get up and pay the desk but she demanded to take my card to the desk for me. She watched as we ate but didn't offer to take our empty plates just rudely starring at us. My niece introduced me to this place a while ago and I really liked it. After a while I was trying to find a good Chinese buffet spot and somehow "slept" on Cafe East. My son mentioned Chinese yesterday and this place popped in my head - BAM!! The food selection here is very good. I'm turned off by most buffets these days due to the possiblities of it all but this place has made me a believer!! One thing that makes this buffet special is the shrimp fried rice!! Who does that??? Cafe East does. The buffet consist of several good items such as crabs, suffed crab, general tso chicken, egg rolls, sushi, etc. In addition to all of that they have freshly baked chocolate chip/ oatmeal-raisin cookies, icecream, and cotton candy. HEY, you can't beat that. Did i mention the friendliness of the staff? Our waitress was so attentive until it was almost scary. She was standing so close until it almost seemed as if she was our personal assistant. She was even laughing at our jokes...lol! It didn't bother me though. I go to this buffet almost every time I visit my mom in Houston because of its convenience and variety of food. It's a typical buffet and the food is alright - mostly inconsistent like other Chinese buffets. What gets me more than anything is the type of people who eat here. Never before have I seen people load up a to-go box full of food, then decide they don't want those items so they put them each back into the buffet trays for someone else to eat. People touch the food, the restaurant is usually pretty messy, and they had to call the cops on a customer (or someone?) last weekend. Yet we continue to eat here, so I guess it can't be all bad. Been around since I was in middle school at least, had my highschool graduation dinner there about 12 years ago (lol) it seems they did some recent renovations that update the place pretty well. Cafe East is convenient to my home so wife & I eat here about once every six weeks or so. They have a large buffet with the usual chinese dishes and a few American items too. Several sushi and desert items also and soft ice cream dispenser. The food always tastes good and the price is right. It has a large seating area and never have to wait for a table. Quite possibly the shittiest buffet of all buffet's. Some of the food is plain cold such as the meat. Some of the meat taste like it has been there for days. The only thing that is cold is the frozen yogurt. Vegetables are undercooked, and you can taste the drudginess in the broccoli and beef. We were there on a Saturday night and the restaurant was full of noisy and messy kids. The families on either side of us could not contain their children, so it made for an unpleasant experience. The food is decent, but not fantastic. The steam table has a pretty wide variety of beef, chicken and seafood, plus some vegetarian dishes. There is a salad bar that includes sushi. Soup and egg rolls are good. We've been here a few times and at the end of each meal vow not to return. The problem is it's currently the only Chinese buffet in the area. read more
